Current approaches to modeling the structure and semantics of video recordings restrict its reuse. This is because these approaches are either too rigidly structured or too generally structured and so do not represent the structural and semantic regularities of classes of video recordings. This paper proposes a framework which tackles the problem of reuse by supporting the definition of a wide range of models of video recordings and supporting reuse between them. Examples of the framework's use are presented and examined with respect to different kinds of reuse of video, current research, and the development of a toolset to support the framework. 相似文献

Video data management is fast becoming one of the most importanttopics in multimedia databases. In this paper, we describe thedevelopment of an experimental video information management system,called VIMS, being implemented at the Hong Kong University ofScience & Technology, which employs two fundamental components—i)a Video Classification Component (VCC) for the generation of effectiveindices necessary for structuring the video data, and ii) a ConceptualClustering Mechanism (CCM) having extended object-oriented featuresand techniques. By incorporating CCM concepts and techniques togetherwith the classified features and indices generated from the VCC, theinformation management system enables users to form dynamically, among other things, video programs(or segments) from existing objects based on semantic features/indexterms. The granularity of scheduling video streams can be categorized as cycle-scheduling and slot-scheduling where a time cycle is further divided into time slots. To avoid resource conflict and thereby increase throughput of clustered video servers, slot-scheduling using conflict-free scheduling and especially cycle-scheduling using full-duplex scheduling and ordered scheduling are presented in the paper. Segmentation, video data modeling, and annotation are indispensable operations necessary for creating and populating a video database. To support such video databases, annotation data can be collected as metadata for the database and subsequently used for indexing and query evaluation. In this paper we describe the design and development of a video annotation engine, called Vane, intended to solve this problem as a domain-independent video annotation application.Using the Vane tool, the annotation of raw video data is achieved through metadata collection. This process, which is performed semi-automatically, produces tailored SGML documents whose purpose is to describe information about the video content. These documents constitute the metadatabase component of the video database. The video data model which has been developed for the metadata, is as open as possible for multiple domain-specific applications. In video databases, a video document has two abstractions. The high level abstraction corresponds to the view in which the contents of that video document are seen by end users, and the low level abstraction corresponds to the physical organization of that video document. Due to the huge size of continuous data, reducing I/O has become a key issue. The latter has been mostly addressed by developing appropriate buffering techniques. In addition, prefetching techniques play a major role to meet the video data requirements. In this paper, we propose a novel prefetching strategy based not only on run-time information (objects access frequencies for example) but also on knowledge about clips structures. The proposed technique merges the two views of a video document to trigger prefetching at the video server level. Simulation experiments for a News-on-Demand application performed on different request scenarios show an improvement of about 18% in the buffer hit-rate with respect, first to the available buffer size and second to the request arrival rate. 相似文献

Video transmission with general-purpose PCs poses a number of requirements that radically differ from those of high-end dedicated video servers. We analyze the scenario of an Ethernet local area network in which a number of PCs are transmitting video streams, while other TCP/IP applications are also running concurrently. Our findings show that since the operating system clock resolution cannot cope with the transmission timing requirements the following holds: if the video transmission is performed with exact timing accuracy to maintain a constant rate then CPU load grows to 100%, thus blocking the PC for other user applications; on the other hand, if transmission is performed in a bursty manner, i.e. with sleep system calls, then CPU load decreases dramatically but the increased burstiness of the video stream has a negative impact on network performance (for example, capture effect in the Ethernet). Furthermore, the impact of video transmission over the rest of TCP/IP applications running on the same network depends heavily on the packet size. We provide an integrated analysis of operating system and network parameters to achieve video broadcasting while preserving timing requirements and minimizing the impact on other applications. 相似文献

The Video Server Estimator (VSE) is an analytical tool which allows a user to perform a cost/performance analysis of video servers with hierarchical storage. The underlying model comprises multiple systems, main memory, expanded storage, disks and a tape library. The main objective of the tool is to optimally allocate the video files to different storage media based on the system parameters and the video file request probability distribution. The cost and the size of the video server that can accommodate a customer profile are determined. This paper considers the automated generation of humorous video sequences from arbitrary video material. We present a simplified model of the editing process. We then outline our approach to narrativity and visual humour, discuss the problems of context and shot-order in video and consider influences on the editing process. We describe the role of themes and semantic fields in the generation of content oriented video scenes. We then present the architecture of AUTEUR, an experimental system that embodies mechanisms to interpret, manipulate and generate video. Recent advances in computing technology have brought multimedia information processing to prominence. The ability to digitize, store, retrieve, process, and transport analog information in digital form has changed the dimensions of information handling. Several architectural and network configurations have been proposed for efficient and reliable digital video delivery systems. However, these proposals succeed only in addressing subsets of the whole problem. In this paper, we discuss the characteristics of video services. These include Cable Television, Pay-Per-View, and Video Repository Centers. We also discuss requirements for Video On Demand services. With respect to these video services, we analyze two important video properties: image quality and response time. We discuss and present configurations of a Digital Video Delivery System (DVDS) from three general system components - servers, clients, and connectivities. Pertinent issues in developing each component are also analyzed. We also present an architecture of a DVDS that can support the various functionalities that exist in the various video services. Lastly, we discuss data allocation strategies which impact performance of interactive video on demand (IVOD). 针对工艺品个性化定制过程中知识重用性较低的问题,提出一种图案构型提取与 重用的方法,并以蜡染图案创新设计为例开展研究。首先,将蜡染知识按照工艺品个性化定制 的应用需求进行分类整理,建立蜡染知识库和案例库,并构建两者之间的语义关系,通过本体 语义检索,推荐出符合用户需求的蜡染案例。采用形状上下文法对蜡染图案的纹样进行提取, 结合拓扑学方法建立图案的构型规则。在构型重用过程中提出基于字符编码的改进形状文法, 用于表述纹样填充过程中形状的变换,从而完成了面向工艺品个性化定制的蜡染图案重用。开 发蜡染工艺品个性化定制系统,通过实例验证了该方法的可行性。 相似文献
