Quality factor and refractive sensitivity are significant parameters in designing optical devices such as filters, demultiplexers, switches and sensors. In this paper, we proposed a novel structure for photonic crystal ring resonator with octagon-shaped core. The transmission efficiency of the proposed ring resonator at \(\lambda =1551\,\hbox {nm}\) is about 99.6 % with bandwidth and quality factor values equal to 0.3 nm and 5170. The proposed structure is very sensitive upon the variation of refractive index of total structure and core part of the resonator, such that the refractive index sensitivity to the refractive index of total structure and the resonant ring core is \(\Delta \lambda /\Delta \lambda =3.1\,\hbox {nm}\,/\,0.01\) and \(\Delta \lambda /\Delta \hbox {n}=2.9\,\hbox {nm}\,/\,0.01\), respectively. 相似文献

A new integrated optical ring resonator using a four-port nonsymmetric Mach-Zehnder interferometer as an input/output coupler is demonstrated. The device is fabricated in a glass substrate by the double-ion-exchange process. A finesse of 5 at lambda =1.523 mu m is measured. Propagation losses of 0.17 dB/cm in the ring waveguide are estimated.<> 相似文献

Doped polysilicon is applied as a thermo-optic heating element to temperature tune the ring resonator based on silicon nitride rib waveguides on silicon. The ring diameter is 2 mm allowing a large free spectral range of 26 GHz. For the first time, a poly-Si resistor is used as a thermistor to measure waveguide temperature. The temperature coefficient of the poly-Si thermistor is 9.5×10-4/°C. The reproducibility of the temperature measurement is 0.3°C. The finesse of the ring resonator is 77. The propagation loss of silicon nitride rib waveguide is 0.5 dB/cm at the wavelength of 1.312 μm. The temperature tuning of the ring resonator and the in situ supervision of the temperature on chip based on the same poly-Si fabrication process may find use especially in optical sensor applications 相似文献

An integrated optical microelectromechanical system (MEMS) switch that provides wavelength selectivity is described. The switching mechanism is based on moving a MEMS actuated optically absorbing membrane into the evanescent field of a high-index-contrast optical ring resonator. In this study, a photonic crystal ring resonator with a triangular lattice is used to design an optical filter. The proposed structure is able to filter the central wavelength of 1548 nm with a transmission coefficient of over 95%. Moreover, this structure has an ultra-high-quality factor (Q) of about 1290. With altering the features of the structure including the refractive index, the lattice constant and the radius of the rods in the resonator core, their effects on the central wavelength of the filter, transmission coefficient, quality factor and bandwidth are investigated. The plane wave expansion and finite-difference time-domain methods are used to extract photonic band gap and investigate the photonic behavior of the proposed structure, respectively. 相似文献

We present an analysis of the dynamic behavior of a nonlinear fiber ring resonator when an optical pulse with an arbitrary shape envelope is incident into it through a fiber directional coupler. The transient analysis is based on the extension of a well-known multiple-beam interference method to non-linear transmission problems. The steady-state analyses reported so far predict that the ring resonator exhibits reflection optical bistability in the input-output characteristics under appropriate conditions. But, our transient analysis shows that a nearly periodical oscillation of the transmitted power always takes place at a suitable initial detuning when the resonator has no loss or a small loss. It seems that the present instability is caused by the repetition of accumulation and release of the power in the ring resonator. We can obtain a bistable hysteresis loop by introducing a loss to the directional coupler. The dynamic behavior of bistability in a nonlinear fiber ring resonator with coupler loss is then investigated. It is found that a remarkable undershoot and overshoot occur in the switch-off curve and switch-on curve, respectively 相似文献

A periodic multi/demultiplexer that has a square spectrum response with a 200-GHz free spectrum range was fabricated using a modified Mach-Zehnder interferometer with MMI couplers, a delay line, and a ring resonator. This paper reports the experimental results of silica on a silicon ring resonator in a resonator micro optic gyroscope based on the frequency modulation spectroscopy technique by our research group. The ring resonator is composed of a 4 cm diameter silica waveguide. By testing at D1550 nm, the FSR, FWHM and the depth of resonance are 3122 MHz, 103.07 MHz and 0.8 respectively. By using a polarization controller, the resonance curve under the TM mode can be inhibited. The depth of resonance increased from 0.8 to 0.8913, namely the finesse increase from 30.33 to 33.05. In the experiments, there is an acoustic-optical frequency shifter(AOFS) in each light loop. We lock the lasing frequency at the resonance frequency of the silica waveguide ring resonator for the counterclockwise lightwave; the frequency difference between the driving frequencies of the two AOFS is equivalent to the Sagnac frequency difference caused by gyro rotation. Thus, the gyro output is observed. The slope of the linear fit is about 0.330 m V/(°/s) based on the 900 to 900 k Hz equivalent frequency and the gyro dynamic range is˙2.0 103rad/s. 相似文献

It is well known that two orthogonal resonant modes exist within a one-wavelength ring resonator. In this paper, we focus on a ring resonator possessing an impedance step as a form of perturbation. A convenient analyzing method for obtaining the resonance characteristics of this resonator structure is presented. Development of a successful remote sensing instrument for soil moisture relies on the accurate knowledge of the soil dielectric constant (ϵsoil) to its moisture content. Two existing methods for measurement of dielectric constant of soil at low and high frequencies are, respectively, the time domain reflectometry and the reflection coefficient measurement using an open-ended coaxial probe. The major shortcoming of these methods is the lack of accurate determination of the imaginary part of Esoil. In this paper, a microstrip ring resonator is proposed for the accurate measurement of soil dielectric constant. In this technique the microstrip ring resonator is placed in contact with soil medium and the real and imaginary parts of Esoil are determined from the changes in the resonant frequency and the quality factor of the resonator, respectively. The solution of the electromagnetic problem is obtained using a hybrid approach based on the method of moments solution of the quasistatic formulation in conjunction with experimental data obtained from reference dielectric samples. Also, a simple inversion algorithm for Esoil=E'r-jϵE"r based on regression analysis is obtained. It is shown that the wide dynamic range of the measured quantities provides excellent accuracy in the dielectric constant measurement. By properly adjusting the spacing between ring resonators in linear parallel arrays, it is possible to selectively depress modes of the transmission spectra and effectively increase the free spectral range of the individual rings. 将光束绕光轴旋转的思想应用于改善固体激光谐振腔失调,增益不均匀,泵浦热效应等问题。设计了束转动环形非稳固体激光腔。采用快速傅里叶变换的方法,对束转动环形非稳腔的空间平均效应进行了数值模拟,发现对于固体激光器不同的泵浦方式,光束旋转产生的空间平均效应不同,其效果与光束旋转特点、泵浦方式、腔的放大率、束转动角度等有关。本文对几种不同形式的增益不均匀进行计算,对于增益介质横截面一维方向不均匀和角向不均匀的情况,束转动90°环形非稳腔能有效补偿空间不均匀。得到的结论为束转动90°环形非稳腔的优化设计和应用提供理论依据。 相似文献
