Real time variable bit rate (VBR) video traffic prediction plays an important role in dynamic bandwidth allocation schemes by providing an accurate estimation of the instantaneous bandwidth requirement of VBR video traffic and it has been widely used in dynamic bandwidth allocation. A number of prediction algorithms were proposed in the literature and they can be broadly classified into two categories: time domain approaches and wavelet domain approaches. In this paper, we first present a survey of the existing algorithms in the literature. On the basis of the survey, new algorithms are proposed in the time domain and in the wavelet domain, respectively. Simulations using real VBR video traces are conducted which show that the proposed algorithms achieve better performance than those in the literature. Integrated services over a shared satellite channel need a MAC protocol that is able to deal with real‐time traffic without substantially affecting the efficiency of the shared medium. Due to its bursty nature, MPEG coded VBR video transmission is one of the most challenging real‐time applications. In this paper, we analyse the statistical performance of a simple allocation method for VBR traffic by using an accurate statistical model of an MPEG‐2 VBR coded movie, whose traffic exhibits a peak to mean ratio of about 4. The results were obtained both analytically and by simulation, and show that our method is suitable for transmitting non‐interactive video and best‐effort traffic on the same satellite link. In this paper, we systematically investigate the long-term, online, real-time variable-bit-rate (VBR) video traffic prediction, which is the key and complicated component for advanced predictive dynamic bandwidth control and allocation framework for the future networks and Internet multimedia services. We focus on neural network-based approach for traffic prediction and demonstrate that the prediction performance and robustness of neural network predictors can be significantly improved through multiresolution learning. We show that neural network traffic predictor trained through the multiresolution learning (called multiresolution learning NN traffic predictor) can successfully predict various real-world VBR video traffic up to hundreds of frames in advance, which then lays a solid foundation for predictive dynamic bandwidth control and allocation mechanism. Also, dynamic bandwidth control/allocation based on long-term traffic prediction is discussed in detail.  相似文献

One of the most important properties in the ATM network is that the resource of the network, including buffer and bandwidth, can be flexibly managed according to different demands of various applications. The network bandwidth can be effectively allocated and utilized if the data volume of the arrival traffic can be predicted precisely. In this paper, we study the bandwidth management schemes for variable bit rate (VBR) pre‐coded MPEG video sources. The proposed bandwidth allocation method, which predicts the bandwidth by the frame correlation, demonstrates a quite good performance when comparing with a previous scheme, especially for the video scenes with the combination of intraframes and interframes. Bandwidth allocation of a multiplexer connected to several video sources is also studied by using heuristic information. The experimental results show that the proposed method is much better than that of the fixed bandwidth allocation and is suitable for the application of MPEG video services. We propose an effective and efficient traffic‐smoothing called the efficient changes and variability bandwidth allocation (ECVBA) scheme. This algorithm not only minimizes the peak rate of a stream but also increases the likelihood of successful VBR stream transmission. This paper considers VBR transmission of multiple real‐time videos over ATM networks. Multiple real‐time VBR video sources are multiplexed into an ATM switch to transmit cells into the network. Given the ATM switch capacity, the problem is to dynamically allocate the required channel bandwidth for each video source such that the encoder buffer occupancy is maintained at a target level. To solve the problem, we present a mathematical formulation and propose an algorithm for the bandwidth allocation. To allocate a suitable bandwidth at a given control period, QoS demand levels and traffic characteristics of the video sources are considered. The performance of the proposed scheme is examined in terms of the number of encoder rate controls required and the gap between the target and the current buffer occupancy at each control period. Numerical results are analyzed for different QoS environments as well as different levels of target buffer, ATM switch capacity, buffer size and leaky bucket token rate. In this paper we present a multi‐criterion control simulation in a realistically complex environment of a satellite network, involving non‐symmetric up and downlinks. Direct broadcast satellite (DBS) networks carrying heterogeneous traffic is characterized with challenges, such as high traffic burstiness, wireless channel dynamics, and large, but limited capacity. On the other hand, there are system characteristics that can be leveraged to address these challenges such as in centralized topology, different levels in quality of service (QoS) and priorities, availability of side information about channel conditions, flexibility in delivery of delay insensitive traffic, etc. We have developed an adaptive resource allocation and management (ARAM) system that takes the advantage of such characteristics to maximize the utilization of the available capacity on the forward DBS link, while maintaining QoS in the presence of channel effects and congestion in the network. Since variable‐bit‐rate (VBR) video traffic is given priority over available‐bit‐rate (ABR) data traffic in the ARAM concept, in this paper we investigate the impact of the fraction of VBR load in overall load. This letter discusses dynamic-wavelength and bandwidth-allocation (DWBA) algorithm for differentiated services in hybrid WDM/TDM EPONs (Ethernet passive optical networks). We integrate the traffic estimation for variable-bit-rate (VBR) video traffic with the resource allocation to satisfy the increasing demand of video streaming services. A new DWBA algorithm using an adaptive linear prediction model is proposed to estimate the bandwidth required by VBR video traffic arriving during the next waiting period, so that the DWBA algorithm can assign wavelength and bandwidth more effectively. Simulation results show that the proposed DWBA-ALP algorithm can significantly improve the delay jitter performance for both CBR and VBR services.  相似文献

Two major challenges pertaining to wireless asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) networks are the design of multiple access control (MAC), and dynamic bandwidth allocation. While the former draws more attention, the latter has been considered nontrivial and remains mostly unresolved. We propose a new intelligent multiple access control system (IMACS) which includes a versatile MAC scheme augmented with dynamic bandwidth allocation, for wireless ATM networks. IMACS supports four types of traffic-CBR, VBR, ABR, and signaling control (SCR). It aims to efficiently satisfy their diverse quality-of-service (QoS) requirements while retaining maximal network throughput. IMACS is composed of three components: multiple access controller (MACER), traffic estimator/predictor (TEP), and intelligent bandwidth allocator (IBA). MACER employs a hybrid-mode TDMA scheme, in which its contention access is based on a new dynamic-tree-splitting (DTS) collision resolution algorithm parameterized by an optimal splitting depth (SD). TEP performs periodic estimation and on-line prediction of ABR self-similar traffic characteristics based on wavelet analysis and a neural-fuzzy technique. IBA is responsible for static bandwidth allocation for CBR/VBR traffic following a closed-form formula. In cooperation with TEP, IBA governs dynamic bandwidth allocation for ABR/SCR traffic through determining the optimal SD. The optimal SDs under various traffic conditions are postulated via experimental results, and then off-line constructed using a back propagation neural network (BPNN), being used on-line by IBA. Asychronous transfer mode (ATM) networks are high‐speed networks with guaranteed quality of service. The main cause of congestion in ATM networks is over utilization of physical bandwidth. Unlike constant bit‐rate (CBR) traffic, the bandwidth reserved by variable bit‐rate (VBR) traffic is not fully utilized at all instances. Hence, this unused bandwidth is allocated to available bit‐rate (ABR) traffic. As the bandwidth used by VBR traffic changes, available bandwidth for ABR traffic varies; i.e., available bandwidth for ABR traffic is inversely proportional to the bandwidth used by the VBR traffic. Based on this fact, a rate‐based congestion control algorithm, Explicit Allowed Rate Algorithm (EARA), is presented in this paper. EARA is compared with Proportional Rate Control Algorithm (PRCA) and Explicit Rate Indication Congestion Avoidance Algorithm (ERICA), in both LAN and WAN environments. Simulations of all three algorithms are conducted under both congestion and fairness configurations with simultaneous generation of CBR, rt‐VBR, nrt‐VBR and ABR traffic. The results show that, with very small over‐head on the switch, EARA significantly decreases the required buffer space and improves the network throughput. 针对变速率视频流在多个时间尺度上突发的性质,本文提出了基于多级整形和多时间尺度带宽分配与准入的重协商优化算法.算法通过视频源与边缘网关的重协商过程,对进入网络的数据流进行包络,提高数据流的控制性和预测性,从而减少突发对网络所造成的破坏;并且对中小规模的数据流复合的情况,可以取得接近VBR流的复用增益.  相似文献

The traffic characteristics of an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network are analyzed by theoretical methods. A new method is proposed to express the burstiness of the cell arrival process. Both statistical multiplexing and statistical bandwidth allocation are quantitatively evaluated. When packetized video traffic and voice traffic are multiplexed, the number of multiplexable sources strongly depends on the peak bit rate of the multiplexed video sources, and statistical bandwidth allocation is ineffective without control. On the other hand, lowering the peak bit rate of video traffic effectively improves bandwidth utilization  相似文献

:VBR视频流量具有时变性、突发性和非线性等变化特点,为了提高VBR视频流量的预测精度,提出一种小波支持向量机的VBR视频流量预测模型(WSVM)。首先对VBR视频流量时间序列进行相空间重构,然后将其输入到小波支持向量机进行学习,建立VBR视频流量预测模型,最后采用仿真实验对模型性能进行测试,并与支持向量机、小波神经网络进行对比。仿真结果表明,相对于其它预测模型,WSVM模型提高了VBR视频流量预测精度,能够更加准确反映VBR视频流量的复杂变化规律。  相似文献

无线多媒体网络中的业务包括话音、流媒体、交互类和背景类业务4种,除话音业务外其余3种业务都是可变比特速率业务。对该网络用户资源分配(主要是带宽的分配)若采用传统的固定分配方法,必定陷入资源利用率低下和用户QoS得不到保障的两难境地。该文提出了一种基于无线多媒体业务的动态带宽分配与优化策略,在保证用户QoS的前提下,尽可能提高资源利用率。该文分别从网络和用户两个角度考虑,通过系统容量、业务阻塞率、数据延迟、流媒体的实际传输比和VBR业务综合服务等级等参数,对可升降级QoS无线多媒体网络进行了仿真分析,结果表明,对比传统的网络资源管理策略,该策略大大改善了系统的性能,提高了系统资源利用率。  相似文献

DVB-H采用的时间分片技术对现有的复用器算法提出了挑战.本文在VBR视频流量预测技术的基础上提出了基于VBR视频流量预测技术的DVB-H网络复用器调度算法.本算法根据VBR视频码率的预测值,预先分配下一调度周期的带宽,满足了时间分片技术对复用器调度算法的要求.与CBR调度算法相比,本算法具有较小的时延和较高的带宽利用率.  相似文献

A dynamic bandwidth allocation strategy to support variable bit rate (VBR) video traffic is proposed. This strategy predicts the bandwidth requirements for future frames using adaptive linear prediction that minimizes the mean square error. The adaptive technique does not require any prior knowledge of the traffic statistics nor assume stationarity. Analyses using six one-half-hour video tracts indicate that prediction errors for the bandwidth required for the next frames and group of pictures (GOP) are almost white noise or short memory. The performance of the strategy is studied using renegotiated constant bit rate (RCBR) network service model and methods that control the tradeoff between the number of renegotiations and network utilization are proposed. Simulation results using MPEG-I video traces for predicting GOP rates show that the queue size is reduced by a factor of 15-160 and the network utilization is increased between 190%-300% as compared to a fixed service rate. Results also show that even when renegotiations occur on the average in tens of seconds, the queue size is reduced by a factor between 16-30  相似文献

Since real-time variable bit rate (VBR) traffic is inherently bursty, dynamic bandwidth allocation is necessary for ATM streams that carry VBR traffic. In order to provide quality-of-services (QoS) guarantees and to reduce the computational complexity, an hybrid of guaranteed and dynamic adaptive allocation scheme requires to be implemented. Typical dynamic allocations to competing streams are done in the form of linear proportions to the bandwidth requirements. We show that during temporary link congestion such proportional arrangements can give rise to unequal queue growth and, subsequently, degraded QoS. This is found to be true even for streams that belong to the same VBR class and share identical long term traffic characteristics and QoS requirements. In this paper, four allocation algorithms are presented and analyzed in terms of their fairness and QoS potential for real-time VBR traffic. We propose and show that a novel allocation strategy, termed Minmax, solves the mentioned problem of unfairness within a class. By maintaining a fair distribution of buffer length across the streams of a class, the proposed policy can achieve better and fairer QoS performance compared to the traditional methods. We present analytical results, proofs and a simulation study of the described algorithms. Four allocation policies for handling MPEG VBR video streams are simulated in the context of a wireless ATM (WATM) medium access control. The results show that in certain scenarios, the Minmax strategy can reduce losses by an order of magnitude, while decreasing delays substantially  相似文献
