When computer engineering students follow a different (separate) program of study from the electrical engineering students, only a single course in engineering electromagnetics can be accommodated in the computer engineering (CE) core program. An outline for a course on electromagnetics for computer engineering is given combining traditional electromagnetics topics with definitions, concepts, and discussions drawn from EMC. In this way engineering electromagnetics is made relevant and vital for the CE student. Specific EMC topics are included as they arise in a presentation based on a standard engineering electromagnetics text. Shielding, radiated emissions, susceptibility, the electromagnetic environment, EMC test methods, open sites, shielded anechoic rooms, screen rooms, TEM cells, and EMC test antennas are discussed. The goal of the computer engineering electromagnetics course is to prepare the student for a full-scale EMC course to be taken as an elective in the final undergraduate year or the first year of graduate study 相似文献

The establishment, content, and experience with an undergraduate course in electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) in an electrical engineering program is described. The course has met with very favorable student reaction and enthusiasm. Current college/university curricula do not generally contain such a course although the material is rapidly becoming fundamental aspect of electrical engineering design. An experiment with a low-cost "teaching machine" is described and evaluated from the standpoint of effectiveness in an electrical engineering course given to practicing engineers at their plant. In the new teaching method the instructor is not present at two of the three weekly sessions. The method replaced a 3-hour session held once each week and was found to be more effective and convenient for the students. When compared with television systems, its advantages are low cost, ease of recording the lectures, and freedom of scheduling. Both the equipment required to conduct the course and the operation of the in-plant and corresponding oncampus classes are described. A thorough evaluation by the two groups of students and the instructor is presented, and situations in which the teaching method is useful are discussed. 相似文献

Metamaterials are new artificial materials with unusual electromagnetic properties that are not found in naturally occurring materials. All "natural" materials such as glass, diamond and such have positive electrical permittivity, magnetic permeability and an index of refraction. In these new artificially fabricated materials - termed as negative index materials (NIM) or double negative (ONG) media or left handed (LH) materials or backward wave (BW) media - all these material parameters are negative. With these unusual material parameters, new kinds of miniaturized antennas and microwave components/devices can be created for the wireless communications and the defense industries. The electrical permittivity and the magnetic permeability are the main determinants of a material's response to electromagnetic (EM) waves. In metamaterials, both these material parameters are negative. Correspondingly, the refractive index of the metamaterials is also negative. The U.S. National Academy of Engineering (NEA) recently held a workshop in Washington D.C. on the topic "Engineering, Social Justice, and Sustainable Community Development." The event was convened by the NEA's Center for Engineering, Ethics, and Society, and brought together practicing engineers, academics, and government officials to discuss ongoing projects, educational issues, and plans to implement new initiatives. The meeting was lively and informative, and most of the discussions centered around the kinds of ideas typically found in the pages of IEEE Technology & Society Magazine. The transfer of electric power in an HTSC electromagnetic system is considered using the Poynting vector. An analysis of the process of transfer of electromagnetic field energy in HTSC transformers with and without an iron core is given. It is shown that the power of an HTSC transformer increases when its magnetic core is made from amorphous electrical steel. Schemes of HTSC transformers with a localized magnetic field are given with cylindrical and disk symmetrical interleaved windings providing the cost-saving process of transfer of large electromagnetic energy at a high degree of its uniformity and improve the factor of nonuniformity of electromagnetic flux density. 相似文献

直流换流器熄弧角是直流输电系统的重要电气量,常被用于判断直流输电系统逆变器的换相失败.在电力系统分析中,一般当直流熄弧角小于阀去游离时间对应的最小角度,则判断直流输电系统发生了换相失败。近来研究发现.RTDS等电磁暂态仿真工具输出的“熄弧角”只能用于辨别是否发生了换相失败.但却并不能用来详细分析换相失败特征.即该熄弧角并不是直流换流器的真正熄弧角.通过与相关仿真技术人员的商榷.研究了RTDS的熄弧角角度的计算方法。RTDS通过不断刷新阀桥6个阀的最小熄弧角去得到熄弧角.而不是各阀组熄弧角的依次组合输出。基于RTDS和带有实际直流控制保护系统的闭环仿真案例研究进行了必要的说明.所阐述的换相失败发生过程及其各种电气量轨迹对研究和理解直流换相失败的特征具有一定的意义.基于对换相失败各电气量的轨迹的研究.对电磁暂态仿真的直流输电换相失败的判断和分析给出了建议的方法. 相似文献

Following the need to provide profound understanding of fundamental concepts in electrical engineering a number of computer assisted learning (CAL) programs have been developed in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at Surrey, UK, to aid teaching of signal analysis, electromagnetic field theory, engineering mathematics, power electronics and telecommunications. They all run on personal computers (Apple Macintosh or IBM PC), except for the telecommunications tutorials which are designed for SUN workstations. The programming environment used is cT for personal computers and the advanced simulation software package SPW for workstations. The course material is designed to meet the requirements of a modular syllabus structure. Over the past several years, Federal and international regulations limiting the interference potential of electronic devices have forced designers and manufacturers of these devices to consider the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of their products. Although there are a few universities which offer courses to prepare electrical engineers for this challenge, many faculties are hesitant to introduce courses dealing with EMC. A case study is presented of how a such a course was developed at North Dakota State University, USA. The microwave region of the electromagnetic spectrum provides an excellent vehicle for introducing electromagnetic concepts.
