In rapeseed meals (RSM) of a conventional (c) or a newly bred (n) variety 117 or 44 mmol glucosinolates and glucosinolate degradation products per kg dry matter were detected. Soaking meals in aqueous myrosinase or copper sulphate solution and subsequent drying reduced the content of antinutrients by more than 90%. Broiler chickens were fed (i) a glucosinolate-free diet, or this diet in which half the soybean meal was replaced by RSM of various origins and treatment; (ii) untreated cRSM; (iii) cRSM treated with myrosinase: (iv) cRSM treated with Cu (v) untreated nRSM; or (vi) nRSM treated with myrosinase. These diets were administered with or without supplementary iodine. Chickens receiving the iodine-deficient diets with myrosinase-treated RSM showed growth depression, incomplete feathering, leg injuries and severe goitre. In the serum T4 could not be detected. Giving myrosinase-treated RSM plus iodine, or giving other RSM diets irrespective of iodine administration, no growth depression was observed. RSM diets without iodine dosage markedly increased thyroid weight: there were no differences between the RSM variants. In contrast to the treatment with myrosinase, in the sera of the chickens fed on untreated RSM or RSM treated with copper T4 could be detected, suggesting that in iodine-deficient conditions differences in serum T4 concentration between RSM groups indicate a differing anti-thyroid activity. With iodine supplementation the RSM had a significant effect on thyroid weight. The largest thyroids (five-fold heavier) were in the animals with myrosinase-treated cRSM. The untreated cRSM and the nRSM trebled or doubled the thyroid weight, and the myrosinase-treated nRSM trebled it. The thyroid weight of chicks fed cRSM treated with copper did not differ significantly from the glucosinolate-free control. There was evidence that heating the myrosinase-treated RMS produced anti-thyroid compounds; these should be identified in further investigations.  相似文献

Although there is no clear evidence to fully describe the mechanism involved in glucosinolate-related effects on animal reproduction, lowered fertility in animals fed diets with rapeseed meal (RSM) inclusion is related to glucosinolate content in the diet. Negative effects can result both from multidirectional action of glucosinolates, malnutrition of mother due to the thyroid dysfunction, transfer of goitrogenic compounds to foetus and reduced transfer of nutritive compounds (e.g. iodine) through the placenta. The degree of reproduction impairment depends both on glucosinolate content and on the type of animal. Pregnant female rats are sensitive to the presence of glucosinolates, and the first symptoms of fertility impairment and lowering of offspring survival rate may occur at low glucosinolate levels, e.g. with diets containing low glucosinolate rapeseed meal (LG-RSM). In the case of swine, the limiting value above which sows fertility may be impaired is 4 μmol of total glucosinolates per g diet and 8 mmol of daily intake of these compounds. Opinions on the permitted RSM inclusion in diet for hens are very divergent. Some authors recommend limiting of the RSM inclusion to 10%, while others did not find any lowering of egg production in hens fed diets with two- or three-fold greater RSM inclusion rates. Most long-term experiments with heifers, cows and ewes indicate that ruminants tolerate the level of glucosinolate in LG-RSM although feeding this fodder as the only high-protein concentrate component may lead to impaired fertility.  相似文献

Twenty-four lambs were intoxicated with 2·5 mg of aflatoxin (AF) kg-1 in their feed for 21 days. Twelve lambs were slaughtered at day 21 and the remaining animals had an 8 day clearance period. Aflatoxins and their metabolites were detected in liver, kidneys, faeces and urine using TLC and fluorescence densitometry. During the intoxication period, the samples gave a wide range of concentrations, the lower extreme being in the liver and the kidney (0·03 μg kg-1 of AFG1) and the higher extreme in faeces (61·82 μg kg-1 of AFM1) and urine (27·84 μg litre-1 of AFM1). The average value of AFB1 (1·94±0·9 μg kg-1) was higher than AFM1 (0·35±0·17 μg kg-1) in the liver. In the kidney AFM1 (5·45±4·01 μg kg-1) was higher than AFB1 (1·29±0·84 μg kg-1). There were higher concentrations of AFM1 (27·2±16·1 μg kg-1, 7·37±6·53 μg litre-1, respectively, of average level) in faeces and urine, than of AFB1 (17·25±8·1 and 1·78±1·57 μg litre-1, respectively). AFB2a appeared in the kidney (0·05±0·03 μg kg-1) and urine (0·35±0·25 μg litre-1). The clearance time of AFB1 from the faeces was less than or equal to 8 days and in all samples aflatoxin residues were still detected on the 8th day of the clearance period although in low quantities. These results suggest that aflatoxin transfer to and elimination by the liver and the renal tissue is small and that the danger to humans consuming lamb meat is also small. The examination of the faeces and urine could be useful as markers to detect lambs consuming a contaminated diet. © 1997 SCI.  相似文献

The inclusion of Candle (low glucosinolate) and Yellow Sarson (high glucosinolate) rapeseed meals in the diet of laying hens (100 g kg?1 for 14 days) depressed the oxidation of trimethylamine (TMA) by about 34% and 77% respectively and raised the mean TMA content of their eggs to 0.56 and 1.47 μg g?1. A dehulled, extracted Yellow Sarson meal had only a slight effect. A high glucosinolate B. napus meal suppressed TMA oxidation almost completely when fed for only 4 days. Differences in the tainting potential of the meals were related to their progoitrin contents. When fed alone this substance had a comparable effect on TMA oxidation which was due to the formation of goitrin in the gastrointestinal tract and its inhibition of TMA oxidase. Potassium thiocyanate (250 and 1000 mg kg?1 diet for 14 days) had no effect on TMA oxidation. It is concluded that neither the breeding of low glucosinolate cultivars of rapeseed nor treatment of the meal is likely to provide a practicable solution to the taint problem and that the elimination of the tainting defect from commercial stock by selective breeding would be more effective.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the feeding value of yellow-, green- and brown-seeded peas as protein and energy supplements in laying hen diets. In experiment 1, all three types of peas were included in laying hen diets at 0, 200, 400 and 600 g kg-1 replacing wheat and soya bean meal. Layers fed diets containing peas at 200 g kg-1 produced more (P⩽0·05) eggs, had higher (P⩽0·05) egg mass output and better (P⩽0·01) feed conversion than those fed the wheat soya bean meal control diet. With 400 g peas kg-1 in diets, egg production, egg mass and feed conversion were similar (P⩾0·05) to the control diet. Total replacement of soya bean meal with peas (600 g peas kg-1 in diets) reduced (P⩽0·01) egg production, egg mass and feed conversion. A progressive (P⩽0·01) improvement in yolk colour as the level of peas in the diet increased was observed. Shell quality decreased (P⩽0·05) with increasing levels of yellow or brown peas in the diets, however, it seemed not to be affected by green peas. Daily feed intake, egg weight and mortality rates were not affected by dietary treatments. The influence of feeding diets containing yellow or brown peas supplemented with varied levels of methionine on production performance of laying hens was investigated in experiment 2. The dietary treatments consisted of a 400 g kg-1 yellow or brown pea diet supplemented with three levels of methionine to 100, 115 and 130% of the NRC requirements. Methionine supplementation to either 15 or 30% above NRC requirement for laying hens had no significant (P⩾0·05) effect on all production parameters. It can be concluded that the inclusion of yellow, green or brown peas into laying hen diets up to 400 g kg-1 does not affect production performance. The NRC recommendation of methionine requirement for laying hens is adequate to support maximum egg production for diets containing moderate quantities of peas. © 1997 SCI.  相似文献

Five N balance studies were conducted to determine the faecal composition and N excretion of feeding raw Lupinus angustifolius seed meal and its fractions for growing rats using a semi-synthetic lactalbumin-based diet as control. Diets were formulated to have equal amounts of energy. The protein was incorporated at the level of 10% bulk and contained unsupplemented lupin seed meal (LMU) and fully supplemented lupin seed meal (LMFS) at 360 g kg−1 diet, aqueous extract non-dialysed (LPAND) at 196 g kg−1 aqueous extract dialysed soluble at pH 7·0 (LPAD) at 148 g kg−1 aqueous extract dialysed insoluble at pH 7·0 (LPADI) at 124 g kg−1, buffer dialysed soluble at pH 7·0 (BUSOL) at 136 g kg−1, buffer dialysed insoluble at pH 7·0 (BUDI) at 119 g kg−1 and lupin meal residue after aqueous and buffer extraction (LMR) at 170 g kg−1 diet. Rats were pair-fed for 10 days with all the above diets which had been supplemented with essential amino acids up to the target requirements for rats. Faecal wet and dry weight were increased in rats fed on LMU, LMPS and LMR diets compared to those obtained from the control diet based on lactalbumin (milk protein) LACT. The higher faecal weight was largely due to water content. The higher faecal N excretion observed in LMU, LMFS, LPAND, LPAD, BUSOL, BUDI and LMR compared to that of LACT diet was significantly lower and thus which was assumed not to be due to a decrease in the digestibility of the dietary protein, which was over 90% as compared to that in the control group. Analysis suggested that an increase in endogenous N excretion is involved in the rise of its excretion in the faeces, and indicates a long-term effect of this seed as a protein and or fibre source in monogastrics.  相似文献

Four antibiotics, namely procaine penicillin, tylosin, streptomycin and neomycin-oxytetracycline each at 150 mg · kg?1, and four levels of dried yeast, viz. 1.5, 3.0, 4.5 and 6.5 g · kg?1 were incorporated into a basal high fibre diet containing 250 g · kg?1 palm kernel meal. The unsupplemented diet was the control. The nine experimental diets were fed to broilers between 7 and 42 days of age to evaluate performance, carcass characteristics, organ weights and haematology in response to the supplements. The investigation revealed that broilers fed antibiotics or dried yeast supplemented diets attained heavier (P < 0.05) body weights, consumed greater (P < 0.05) quantities of feed except on penicillin and 6.0 g · kg?1 dried yeast, converted the feed better (P < 0.05), and yielded heavier carcass and cut-parts than those fed the unsupplemented diet. Organ weights were similar in broilers on the treatments, except the greater (P < 0.05) hepatic, spleenic and gizzard weights and lengthier intestinal tracts in birds fed dried yeast. Haematological indices were superior (P < 0.05) in broilers fed supplemented diets to the basal group. The data suggest improvement in performance, carcass yield and haematology of broilers as a result of antibiotics or dried yeast supplementation of a high fibre diet.  相似文献

Oil, protein, ash, carbohydrate, iodine value, fatty acid and sterol compositions were studied in 46 aboriginal Arachis hypogaea cultivars originating from Bolivia. The oil and protein contents varied between 440 and 547 g kg-1 and 242 and 547 g kg-1, respectively. Results showed a lower protein content in the variety hypogaea (264·4 g kg-1) than in the varieties fastigiata (299·7 g kg-1) and peruviana (294 g kg-1). The carbohydrate content ranged between 86 and 216 g kg-1. The principal fatty acids were oleic (358–536 g kg-1) and linoleic (250–462 g kg-1). The variety hypogaea exhibited higher concentrations of oleic acid (449·0 g kg-1). The sterol composition showed higher concentration of β-sitosterol (554–632 g kg-1) following by campesterol (139–180 g kg-1), stigmasterol (82–130 g kg-1) and Δ5-avenasterol (86–138 g kg-1). © 1997 SCI.  相似文献

Abstract : A major feed-intake inhibitor for pigs is present in seeds of Vicia villosa spp dasycarpa Roth cv Namoi. When the seed is fed for 4 days at only 80 g kg?1 of the diet, it produces a steady diminution in daily feed intake to 25% or less of their pre-treatment consumption (P < 0·001), after the first feeding. The inhibitor has been isolated and identified as L -canavanine. When analytically pure L -canavanine dihydrochloride is supplied at an equivalent dietary concentration (13·0 mmol kg?1) to that supplied by 80 g kg?1 of Namoi vetch seed, it successfully mimics the response. The response is only observed after the first meal. A review of published literature showed the diversity of animal species exhibiting a feed-inhibition response to canavanine-containing seeds. These reports suggest that this well-documented arginine analogue will be a useful molecule for the study of post-ingestion feed-intake regulation. An ambient temperature procedure for the large-scale isolation of L -canavanine dihydrochloride is described.  相似文献

Two experiments were carried out to investigate the effect of feeding diets containing faba beans and peas on pancreatic secretions in young pigs fitted with a pancreatic pouch re-entrant cannula. In Experiment 1, eight barrows, with an average initial weight of 8·5 kg, were fed one of two maize starch-based diets formulated to contain 200 g crude protein (CP) kg−1 according to a completely randomised design. In one of the diets, soya bean meal was the sole protein source; in the other diet, soya bean meal and faba beans (cv Fibro; dark-flowering) each supplied 50% of the dietary CP. In Experiment 2, five barrows, with an average initial weight of 18·1 kg, were fed one of two diets according to a two-period change-over design. The diets were formulated to contain 150 g CP kg−1 with peas (cv Ascona or cv Radley) as the sole protein source. In both experiments, the experimental periods consisted of 8 days: 6 days adaptation followed by a 2 day collection of pancreatic juice. The soya bean meal diet and the faba bean diet contained 0.04 and 0.21% tannins (catechin equivalents), respectively. The trypsin inhibitor activities of the Ascona and Radley pea diets were 0·76 and 3·24 mg of trypsin inhibited per gram, respectively. In both experiments, diet did not affect ( P> 0·05) the pancreatic secretions of nitrogen, protein, amylase, lipase and chymotrypsin. In Experiment 1, specific trypsin activity was higher ( P< 0·05) in pancreatic juice from pigs fed the diet containing soya bean meal and faba beans (53700 units litre−1) than for those fed the soya bean meal diet (41200 units litre−1). However, there was no effect ( P> 0·05) when trypsin activity was expressed as total activity (units 24 h−1). It is concluded that the inclu-sion of faba beans and peas in diets for young pigs has only minor effects on exocrine pancreatic secretions.  相似文献

Two experiments were carried out to investigate the effects of feeding diets containing faba beans and peas on the concentration, flow and composition of total, protein-bound and free amino acids (AA) in pancreatic juice collected from young pigs fitted with a pancreatic pouch re-entrant cannula. In Experiment 1, eight barrows, with an average initial weight of 8·5 kg, were fed one of two semi-purified diets formulated to contain 200 g kg−1 crude protein (CP) according to a completely randomised design. In one of the diets, soya bean meal was the sole protein source; in the other diet, soya bean meal and faba beans (cv Fibro; dark-flowering) each supplied 50% of the dietary CP. In Experiment 2, five barrows, with an average initial weight of 18·1 kg, were fed one of two diets formulated to contain 150 g kg−1 CP with peas (cv Ascona or cv Radley) as the sole protein source. There was no effect (P>0·05) of the diet, 8 h sampling period or experimental period on the concentration (mM), composition (% and g 16 g N−1) and flow (mmol 24 h−1) of total, protein-bound and free AA or on the percentage of protein-bound AA in pancreatic juice. The concentrations of total, protein-bound and free AA were higher in pancreatic juice collected from younger pigs in Experiment 1 than in pancreatic juice collected from older pigs in Experiment 2. However, the daily flows of total, protein-bound and free AA in pancreatic juice were similar in both experiments. The percentages of protein-bound AA in pancreatic juice were similar in both experiments. In conclusion, the concentrations, compositions and flows of total, protein-bound and free AA in pancreatic juice were not affected by diet, 8 h sampling period or experimental period.  相似文献

The effect of village processing techniques on the aflatoxin content of corn and peanut products was investigated. In 30 trials, corn kernels were dehulled (bran removal), soaked for 24 h, washed and dried before grinding into flour and boiling in water to a thick consistency (Nshima). Shelled peanuts were either dry-roasted as whole kernels or ground into peanut meal and cooked. Dehulling, following by 24-h soaking (steeping) and subsequent washing significantly (P<0·05) reduced the aflatoxin B1 content of corn flour from 900 to 150 μg kg−1, and similarly that of aflatoxin G1 from 929 to 114 μg kg−1. Preparation of Nshima did not result into a substantial reduction in aflatoxin content, neither did extension of the cooking duration of 2 h afford any further decontamination. Whereas boiling peanut meal yielded a moderate reduction in the content of aflatoxins B1 and G1, roasting whole peanut kernels greatly reduced (P<0·001) the concentrations of the toxins from that in raw kernels (AFB1= 8600 μg kg−1 and AFG1=6200 μg kg−1) to 1300 and 1200 μg kg−1, respectively. These results indicate that specific processing techniques carried out in Zambian villages are effective in reducing aflatoxin carry-over into edible fractions, while others are not. © 1998 SCI.  相似文献

Four cows were used in a balanced 4×4 Latin square with 2 week experimental periods to investigate the effects of intraruminal infusions of volatile fatty acids and protein source on milk production and blood metabolites. The four treatments in a 2×2 factorial arrangement were isoenergetic intraruminal infusions of propionate (500 g day−1) or butyrate (417 g day−1) each given with isonitrogenous protein supplementation of fish meal (FM) or barley protein (BP). The cows were fed restrictively with 9 kg dry matter day−1 of formic acid treated grass silage and 8 kg day−1 of concentrate. Propionate infusion increased milk yield (24·9 vs 23·4 kg day−1; P<0·05), milk protein yield (832 vs 778 g day−1; P=0·05) and milk lactose content (44·7 vs 43·5 g kg−1; P<0·05) and yield (1113 vs 1023 g day−1; P<0·01), whereas butyrate infusion was associated with a higher milk fat content (44·7 vs 39·4 g kg−1; P<0·01) and yield (1033 vs 974 g day−1; P<0·01). FM tended (P<0·10) to increase milk yield, but had no significant effects on milk composition or milk component yields compared with BP. Butyrate infusion increased blood ketones, plasma non-esterified fatty acids and glycine relative to propionate infusion. The concentrations of ammonia N in rumen fluid and urea in plasma and milk were similar for both protein supplements. The profile of amino acids in plasma was similar for both protein supplements except for the higher concentrations of phenylalanine, proline and tyrosine with BP. The results show that protein utilisation can be improved by increasing the supply of propionate from rumen fermentation in cows given a grass silage-based diet. © 1998 SCI.  相似文献

A rapid X-ray spectrometric (XRS) method has been developed for the determination of the total glucosinolate content of oilseed rape and other Brassica oilseeds. The method is based on analysis for fully oxidised sulphur (S6+), which includes half the sulphur (S) in the glucosinolate molecule, and the S in sulphate. Results are highly correlated with glucosinolate content determined by glucose release, a standard method widely used in Australia. The relationship is total glucosinolates = (23·97 S6+ -9·43) r2 = 0·987, where the glucosinolate content is expressed as μmol g?1 and the S6+ content in mg g?1. The relationship is applicable to seed of any glucosinolate content and to meal, and is unaffected by changes in protein sulphur content. The correlation of glucosinolates with S6+ is shown to be closer than the correlation with total S. The latter correlation forms the basis of the existing XRS method, used within the European Community in recent years. The advantages of S6+ derive from the linearity of the regression and the elimination of errors caused by variation in protein content. The method should be valuable to the Australian oilseed industry because it allows the rapid screening of breeding lines to ensure low glucosinolate content and the assessment of deliveries for crushing and of meal.  相似文献

A recently developed procedure for the determination of choline in ingredients and feeds was utilised to establish the levels and the variability of choline in a series of ingredients and to compare the analysed and calculated choline values of mixed feeds. The concentrations of choline in samples of maize (7), canola meal (3), wheat middlings (1) and dehydrated bakery product (1) were, respectively, 1·55±0·18, 7·59±0·08, 2·35 and 2·39 g kg−1, all higher than ingredient composition table values. Choline contents lower than table values were found in samples of poultry by-products (7) and meat and bone meal (6): 2·18±0·87 and 1·08±0·29 g kg−1, respectively. The average choline concentration found in samples of dehulled soybean meal (7) was 2·73±0·18 g kg−1, similar to table values. The choline in samples of poultry fat (2) averaged 0·48±0·02 g kg−1. Significant correlations between the concentrations of choline and of some components of the proximate analysis were found. The analysed choline concentrations in mixed feeds were only 1·4% lower than the calculated levels based on the ingredient analyses. The procedure was adequate for choline determination in ingredients or mixed feeds. The high variability in the choline content of some ingredients may require analysis for proper feed formulation. © 1998 Society of Chemical Industry.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Plant breeders have attempted to improve the nutritonal value of lucerne (alfalfa) by selecting for higher protein and lower fibre concentrations. Although targeted at ruminants, such changes could also improve the nutritional value of lucerne for monogastrics. The objective of this study was to determine the effects of graded levels of dehydrated lucerne meal on nutrient digestibility, performance and carcass traits of swine. RESULTS: The digestibility of dry matter, protein and energy declined linearly (P < 0.05) as the level of lucerne meal in the diet increased. Including lucerne meal at levels greater than 75 g kg?1 was detrimental to the growth rate of pigs during the growing period. During the finishing period, inclusion of lucerne meal at 75 and 150 g kg?1 resulted in improvements in weight gain and feed intake. Carcass traits were generally unaffected by lucerne inclusion. CONCLUSION: Lucerne meal may have greater potential for inclusion in diets fed to growing–finishing pigs than previously realized. To maximize pig performance, lucerne meal should be limited to less than 75 g kg?1 diet during the growing period, while it is possible to go as high as 150 g kg?1 diet during the finishing period without detrimental effects on performance. Six colour-flowering (Scirocco, Alfred, Carola, Condor, Tina and Herz Freya) and six white-flowering (Caspar, Albatros, Gloria, Tyrol, Vasco and Cresta) cultivars of Vicia faba were studied. The crude protein contents of colour- and white-flowering cultivars were 267±13·6 and 283±18·8 g kg−1, respectively, which did not differ significantly at P<0·05. The levels of lipids, crude fibre, starch and ash varied from 14 to 22 g kg−1, 88 to 143 g kg−1, 407 to 485 g kg−1 and 32 to 42 g kg−1, respectively. The calculated organic matter digestibility (OMD) and metabolisable energy (ME) of the white-flowering cultivars were significantly higher (P<0·001) than those of the colour-flowering cultivars (OMD: 889·1±26·6 g kg−1 vs 797·5±17·1 g kg−1; ME: 13·97±0·49 vs 12·30±0·34 MJ kg−1). In all cultivars, sulphur amino acids were lower than adequate concentration when compared with recommended amino acid pattern of FAO/WHO/UNO reference protein for a 2–5-year-old child. The in vitro rumen nitrogen degradability of colour-flowering cultivars was significantly lower (P<0·01) compared to that of white-flowering cultivars (71·4±9·3% vs 88·0±11·1%). Amongst colour-flowering varieties, the contents of total phenols (TP), tannins (T) and condensed tannins (CT) were highest in Alfred (28·3, 21·0 and 35·4 g kg−1, respectively). The contents of TP and T were similar (about 15 and 10 g kg−1, respectively) in Carola, Tina and Herz Freya, and the CT were in the order: Condor>Herz Freya>Carola. The CT were not detected in white-flowering varieties, T were virtually absent and TP were extremely low (4·0–4·9 g kg−1). The activities of other antinutritional factors (white- and colour-flowering cultivars, respectively: trypsin inhibitor activity 3·05±0·34 and 1·85±0·09 mg trypsin inhibited g−1; lectin 27·2±9·4 and 27·1±5·1 mg ml−1 assay medium producing haemagglutination; phytate 15·0±2·7 and 16·6±2·3 g kg−1) were very low. A strong negative correlation (r=-0·92, P<0·001) between tannins and in vitro rumen protein degradability was observed which suggested that tannins have adverse effect on protein degradability. Similarly negative correlations between tannin levels and metabolisable energy (r=-0·89; P<0·001) and organic matter digestibility (r=-0·89; P<0·001) were observed. The correlation coefficient between trypsin inhibitor activity and tannins was negative and highly significant (r=-0·88, P<0·001), whereas between tannins and saponins it was significantly positive (r=0·96, P<0·001). ©1997 SCI  相似文献

Seasonal changes in composition and properties of a high dietary fibre product from grapefruit peel were studied. Total dietary fibre decreased in January as compared to September (586–686 g kg-1). Main constituents from soluble fibre were: uronic acids (172–233 g kg-1), arabinose (13–41 g kg-1), galactose (4–11 g kg-1), glucose (5–10 g kg-1) and xylose (2–3 g kg-1). Insoluble dietary fibre (385–392 g kg-1) did not significantly change during the season. Its main constituents were: Klason lignin (29–37 g kg-1), uronic acids (33–70 g kg-1) and neutral sugars: glucose (149–196 g kg-1), mannose (45–50 g kg-1), xylose (25–38 g kg-1), galactose (20–22 g kg-1) and arabinose (16–45 g kg-1). Total neutral sugars from dietary fibre decreased over the harvest period (315–383 g kg-1) and an inverse trend was observed in total free-sugars from samples (49–85 g kg-1). Both, water holding capacity (7·0–9·3 g water g-1 dry sample) and glucose retardation index (7·0–25·3%) decreased from early stages in fruit development until late in the harvest season. Seasonal changes in grapefruit peel should be taken into account, in order to standardise the quality of rich fibre products. © 1997 SCI  相似文献

Disappearance of cis-18:1(n-9) from ruminal in vitro cultures supplemented with either oleic acid or oleamide was measured over 48 h to determine if the amide resisted biohydrogenation. Oleamide added to the substrate maintained higher concentrations of cis-18: 1(n-9) in the microbial cultures at 24 and 48 h of incubation compared to substrates with added oleic acid. Disappearance rates of cis-18: 1(n-9) from the cultures, which were calculated as a measure of biohydrogenation, were 0·064 and 0·025 h−1 for the oleic acid and oleamide supplements, respectively. Four sheep were fed four diets (control, 42 g kg−1 oleic acid, 23 g kg−1 oleamide, and 45 g kg−1 oleamide) in a 4×4 Latin square to determine how the amide affected fatty acid digestibility. Total tract digestibilities of protein and fibre were not affected (P>0·05) by either oleic acid or oleamide compared to the control diet. Fatty acid and energy digestibilities were not changed (P>0·05) by oleic acid, but were increased (P<0·05) when oleamide was added to the sheep diets at 45 g kg−1. These results show that oleamide resists ruminal biohydrogenation without impairing fatty acid digestibility. © 1998 SCI.  相似文献

This paper has reviewed the current literature relating to the effects of glucosinolates on the palatability of rapeseed meal. The available evidence indicates that diet palatability can be adversely affected by rapeseed meal inclusion and that this response is related to glucosinolate level. However the response is variable and depends also on the species of animal, age and growth state. Younger animals, particularly chicks, piglets and calves appear to be more severely affected and exhibit reduced intake and hence depressed performance with diets containing high levels of glucosinolates from high glucosinolate rapeseed meal. Palatability is substantially improved by the use of low glucosinolate rapeseed meal (LG-RSM) containing 10–30 μ/g and very low glucosinolate rapeseed meal (VLG-RSM) containing 1–5 μ/g glucosinolates. From the findings of this review, it can be concluded that LG-RSM and VLG-RSM can be included at levels up to 20% and 30% for calves and dairy cows respectively. Since piglets are particularly sensitive it is suggested that rapeseed is excluded from early starter diets but that low glucosinolate meals can be included at levels of 10% and 15% for grower and finisher pigs respectively. Growing poultry may be less sensitive to palatability problems associated with rapeseed meal but the use of high levels is constrained due to the lower energy and higher fibre contents of RSM compared with soybean meal.  相似文献
