The use of differentially coherent combining is proposed to improve the performance of a double-dwell acquisition system by increasing the reliability of a decision in the verification stage. The detection and mean acquisition time performance of the acquisition scheme with the proposed combining scheme is analyzed in frequency-selective Rayleigh fading channels, and compared with that of two previously published double-dwell acquisition schemes based on long correlation intervals and noncoherent combining. It is shown that the proposed acquisition scheme outperforms the previous ones, and that the performance improvement increases as the frequency offset increases. 相似文献

Accurate performance evaluation of direct-sequence pseudonoise code acquisition on Rayleigh fading channels is investigated. For fading channels the homogeneous Markov chain model, used to characterize the acquisition process over additive white Gaussian noise channels, is no longer valid due to the correlations between cell detections incurred by fading. Hence, the traditional direct and flow-graph approaches for performance evaluation of the code acquisition are not applicable to fading channels. In this paper, a new analysis is proposed for accurate evaluation of the acquisition performance on Rayleigh fading channels. The analysis is quite general and can include various search strategies, types of correlators, and test methods with different performance measures: probability mass function and/or moments of acquisition time. Analytical and simulation results show that the new method predicts the acquisition performance very accurately 相似文献

The performance of a double-dwell serial search technique is analyzed for cellular code-division multiple-access (CDMA) networks in the case of multiple pilot signals. A general expression for the mean acquisition time is obtained by considering the multiple H1 regions formed by the pilot signals coming from different base stations. The statistics of the demodulator output in code acquisition systems are discussed in detail for synchronous cellular CDMA networks with a focus on the nonstationarity of the interference in the forward link. The probabilities of detection and false alarm are then derived for frequency-selective Rayleigh fading environments in the case where the interference can be approximated by a stationary Gaussian noise process. Numerical evaluations are performed to examine the effects of decision thresholds, postdetection integration, fading rate, and so on, with emphasis on the case where the mobile station is located around the cell boundary 相似文献

A method for the sequential updating of log-likelihood functions for maximum-likelihood sequence estimation is presented. It is shown that, in a general case, this method can be implemented using Kalman filtering techniques. For the special case of Rayleigh flat fading and continuous phase modulation (CPM) signaling, this approach is shown to lead to an attractive receiver structure. This type of receiver, called the linear predictive receiver, can be implemented in the form of the Viterbi algorithm with the trellis updates being computed using a bank of finite pulse response (FIR) filter and square operations. Simulation results are presented that demonstrate the superiority of the linear predictive receiver over receivers employing differential detection, in the presence of fast fading. It is shown that the optimal linear predictive receiver does not possess an irreducible error rate for a class of Rayleigh fading channels used to model terrestrial mobile channels 相似文献

This paper presents a new adaptation algorithm using parallel subfilter structure, which enables fast-code acquisition for direct-sequence spread-spectrum systems. The proposed algorithm adapts the filter, based on a concept of dividing it into several subfilters, thus reducing the adaptation time. The detection and false-alarm probabilities are derived analytically. Simulation results show that the adaptive code-acquisition scheme, using the proposed algorithm, improves the mean-acquisition-time performance by 4-5 and 3-4 dB on additive white Gaussian noise and multipath Rayleigh fading channels for 64 taps, respectively 相似文献

Traditional analysis on PN code acquisition was based on either AWGN or single-ray Rician/Rayleigh fading channels. In this paper, we analyze single-dwell and multidwell code acquisition schemes based on a two-ray Rayleigh fading channel model which is more appropriate to represent the real situations in mobile (personal) communication. Through the analytical and numerical results, we may figure out the performance of typical PN code acquisition schemes and the corresponding penalty in multipath fading channels when the second ray has much smaller power and the processing gain is not large. Otherwise, the second ray may be useful in communication and thus improves the acquisition performance as introducing a new correct acquisition state. 相似文献

An approach for reducing the effects of multiplicative noise, such as fading, on the performance of mobile broadcasting transmission systems is introduced. The proposed method is based on a noise prediction/cancellation technique and is applied to phase-shift keyed (PSK) signals. By exploiting the statistical characteristics of the multipath fading signal and its strong correlation properties, a novel sequential receiver structure is derived that uses a detection algorithm which identifies the most probable transmitted sequence in the maximum-likelihood detection sense. The algorithm has been obtained for both Rayleigh and Rician fading channels. The proposed detection technique has been evaluated for various QPSK schemes operated in channels corrupted by a combination of additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and fading. The computer simulation results obtained show that by using a relatively simple receiver with a prediction algorithm of second order, considerable error floor reductions are achieved by the proposed receivers. As a direct result of these error floor reductions substantial bit error rate (BER) improvements of more than three orders of magnitude over conventionally detected schemes are obtained 相似文献

A precise bit-error probability analysis method for multicode DS-CDMA systems in Rayleigh fading is derived. The proposed
method applies to a multicode DS-CDMA system with an arbitrary number of multiple code sequences and any selection of multiple
code sequences. The method gives accurate results for Rayleigh fading while requiring only a single numerical integration
of an integrand involving the well-known Q-function. The solution discriminates the effect of the selection of different multiple
code sequences on the bit-error probability, whereas Gaussian approximations do not. Numerical examples show that the differences
between exact and approximate methods for a multicode DS-CDMA system operating over Rayleigh fading channels may be more significant
than for a single code system in Rayleigh fading channels or for a multicode system in AWGN channels when the spreading factor

In this paper, we derive exact closed form bit error rate (BER) or symbol error rate (SER) expressions for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems with carrier frequency offset (CFO). We consider the performance of an OFDM system subject to CFO error in additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), frequency flat and frequency selective Rayleigh fading channels. The BER/ SER performances of BPSK and QPSK modulation schemes are analyzed for AWGN and frequency-flat Rayleigh fading channels while BPSK is considered for frequency-selective Rayleigh fading channels. Our results can easily be reduced to the respective analytical error rate expressions for the OFDM systems without CFO error. This work presents the performance of the direct-sequence spread-spectrum (DS-SS) parallel acquisition system, previously proposed by the authors (1989, 1990), for nonselective and frequency-selective Rician (i.e. specular plus Rayleigh) fading channels. The acquisition system utilizes a bank of parallel I-Q noncoherent matched filters for the search mode, and a coincidence detector for the verification mode. The probabilities of detection and false alarm are derived and the mean and variance of the acquisition time are evaluated as a measure of the system performance. The nonselective channel is a Rayleigh fast fading channel, while the frequency-selective channel model is the so-called wide sense stationary uncorrelated scattering (WSSUS), selective only on frequency. Fading channels may improve the capacity of slottedALOHA networks. Rayleigh fading and spatially distributed packet transmitters diminish mutual packet interference and thus reduce the average blocking probability of a shared receiver. A transmission model, combining Poisson statistics of the offered data traffic with Rayleigh statistics for the fading channel, is developed. Analytical and numerical results are presented, indicating significant improvements to signaling in cellular mobile networks and in packet radio systems with fading radio channels. 相似文献

Pseudonoise code acquisition is investigated for constant hopping rate fast frequency-hopped (FFH)/M-ary frequency-shift keying systems under the effects of white Gaussian noise and band multitone jamming. In particular, serial search acquisition systems based on the traditional multiple-dwell test (up to three dwells) and three novel sequential tests are analyzed and compared. Analytical results show the following in a heavily jammed environment: (1) the inherent time diversity in an FFH system can significantly improve the acquisition performance of the multiple-dwell test and (2) the novel sequential tests can significantly outperform the multiple-dwell test. Multiple‐input multiple‐output (MIMO) transmission techniques constitute an important technology in modern wireless communication. Hence, performance analysis methods for such systems are of considerable interest. This paper considers first the average pairwise error probability for uncoded MIMO systems employing maximum likelihood detection over a composite Rayleigh‐Lognormal fading channel with spatial correlation. It provides general results, applicable also to a wider class of shadowing models, concerning asymptotical diversity gains and shows that they are not changed by such shadowing. Then, analytical evaluation techniques for bit‐error‐rate (BER) over composite Rayleigh‐Lognormal fading channels, based on the truncated union bound and the transfer function, are considered. Furthermore, these techniques are modified for applications over spatially correlated channels. This paper shows that such performance evaluation techniques provide good approximations to BER of spatially uncorrelated MIMO systems and also in the presence of moderate spatial correlation, over Rayleigh‐Lognormal fading channels. A novel acquisition scheme that utilizes multipaths to improve the acquisition performance is proposed for frequency-selective fading channels. In this paper, theoretical symbol error probability (SEP) expressions are derived for orthogonal space-time block code (OSTBC) diversity systems employing arbitrary rectangular M-QAM transmission over flat Rayleigh fading channels. Independent fading between diversity channels is assumed. Channel average powers may be distinctive, identical, or mixed with both. The rectangular M-QAM results are extended to square M-QAM, M-PAM, and binary antipodal signaling. All derived expressions are in elementary forms without complicated high-order transcendental functions and unevaluated integrals and, hence, are strictly exact and can be readily simulated by the computer. Moreover, it is shown that mixed Rayleigh fading results can be readily extended to various Nakagami-m fading results. A four-transmit-antenna system with a half-rate OSTBC for 16-QAM signaling is used to demonstrate that the theoretical result is in excellent agreement with the Monte Carlo simulated result. From simulation curves, it is shown that, under the independent channel fading condition, channels with identical powers have better error rate performance than channels with distinctive powers. 相似文献

A hybrid PN-code acquisition scheme is proposed and studied for direct sequence code division multiple access communications
in frequency-selective Rayleigh fading channels. The most important feature of the proposed system is its ability to dynamically

This paper proposes a noncoherent hybrid parallel pseudonoise (PN) code acquisition scheme for code-division multiple access (CDMA) mobile communication systems and analyzes the effect of multiple access interference (MAI) on the code acquisition performance for Rayleigh and Rician fading channels. The hybrid acquisition scheme combines parallel search with serial search to cover the whole uncertainty region of the input code phase. It has a much simpler acquisition hardware structure than the total parallel acquisition and can achieve the mean acquisition time slightly inferior to that of the total parallel acquisition in the case of severe MAI; on the other hand, it provides the flexibility in the tradeoff between the mean acquisition time and system complexity if no MAI is considered. The closed-form expressions of the detection and false-alarm probabilities and mean acquisition time are derived. Numerical analysis quantifies the severe performance degradation of code acquisition due to both MAI and channel fading, and demonstrates the dependence of the increase of mean acquisition time (due to MAI) on the number of users in the CDMA system, system design parameters, and channel fading statistics 相似文献
