Motion of a rigid sphere in a shear field in a micropolar fluid

The motion of a rigid sphere, suspended in a micropolar fluid which is undergoing a shearing motion, is discussed. The expressions for the pressure, velocity and spin in the fluid and those for the force and torque on the sphere are obtained. A compromise boundary condition, relating the spin of the particle with the vorticity vector at the boundary, is employed. The results are compared with the classical values and apart from other interesting observations, it is noted that the torque on the sphere depends upon the various parameters in a complicated manner. By extending the definitions of the effective viscosity for the viscous fluids, an expression for the viscosity of the suspension in the micropolar fluid is derived.

Motion of a Viscous Incompressible Fluid in a Pipe in a Rotating Coordinate System

An analytical solution of the problem on steady motion of a viscous incompressible fluid in a circular pipe has been obtained with regard for the action of Coriolis forces. It is shown that the rotation of the coordinate system as a result of the destruction of the laminar regime of flow and the appearance of a partially nonuniform three-dimensional vortex flow on its basis lead to an increase in the hydrodynamic drag of the pipe.     

Stretching a stiff polymer in a tube

The present paper investigates the force-extension behavior of a stiff polymer under stretching inside a small tube. We develop a theory and perform Brownian dynamic simulations based on a recently developed generalized bead-rod model (GBR) to show that the force-extension relation of such a strongly confined polymer chain can be described by that of an unconfined polymer subject to an effective force which is derived based on Odijk’s theory of a confined polymer chain.

Heat transfer in a horizontal coiled pipe in a transient regime and at a near-critical pressure of a fluid

It has been established that in the region of pressures close to a critical one, heat transfer in a transient regime of motion of a single-phase flow in a horizontal coil pipe changes nonuniformly over the cross section of the perimeter. The main factors here are the influence of inertia forces and of free convection. 聚醚砜四元制膜液体系的相图计算

以Ｆｌｏｒｙ－Ｈｕｇｇｉｎｓ理论为基础，对ＰＥＳ－ＰＧ－ＮＭＰ＿Ｈ２Ｏ＿）聚醚砜丙二醇－Ｎ－甲基－２－哟咯烷酮水）四元制液体系的相图进行了计算，利用三元相图考察Ｈ２Ｏ和ＰＧ对液－液相分离的影响，在三元的理论的基础上提出了低分子量添加剂的卤元改性Ｆｌｏｒｙ－Ｈｕｇｇｉｎｓ理论，并提出了一种获得四元相图的方法，利用四元相图能较争地描述四元体系，利用改性的四元理论，能了地理解该种体系的液－液相分离行为。     

Profiles of mean temperature and concentration in turbulent flow of a liquid in a pipe and in a boundary layer at a plate

A single equation is obtained which describes the profiles of mean temperature and concentration over the entire thickness of the internal region of a turbulent boundary layer at a wall. Theoretical and experimental data are compared for liquids with 0.026≤Pr≤1000.     

Natural convection in a vertical channel in a nonuniform magnetic field
