Phenomena concerning the temperature variations and the heat transfer are studied in the specific case of oscillating flow with null mean velocity circulating between two infinite walls. A 1D model is established and the interesting scale parameters are deduced from theoretical equations. The particular case of an oscillating laminar flow for incompressible fluid is detailed in order to illustrate and to discuss the effects of thermal interactions between the fluid and walls. Influence of wall length comparatively to the fluid displacement is studied. Conclusions for designing thermal heat exchangers of Stirling engines or PTR are proposed.  相似文献

A numerical simulation is performed to examine the heat and fluid flow characteristics of the branching system in a single-phase parallel-flow heat exchanger (PFHE) and to obtain its optimal shape. The relative importance of the design parameters [injection angle of the working fluid (Θ), inlet shape and location (Yc), and height of the protruding flat tube (Yb)] is determined to decide the optimization sequence. The optimal geometric parameters are obtained as follows: Θ=−21°, Type A, Yc=0 and Yb=0. The heat transfer rate of the optimum model compared to that of the reference model is increased by about 55%. The optimal values of the parameters can be applicable to the Reynolds number ranging from 5000 to 20,000.  相似文献

The thermal behaviour of a new two-phase secondary refrigerant has been analysed. The “stabilised ice slurry” is a suspension in a low viscosity oil of ultraporous polymeric particles filled with water. In order to determine the convective heat transfer coefficient of this secondary refrigerant with water–ice phase change, an experimental set-up was built. It allows determining the local heat transfer coefficients inside two heat exchangers, having rectangular sections (80 × 8 mm2) of 1 m length, by mean of fluxmeters located along the working section. The slurry is first cooled and frozen in one of the exchangers, then heated and melted in the other exchanger. The results obtained for laminar or transitional flows shows that the heat transfer coefficients of the ice slurry are obviously higher than the heat transfer coefficients obtained with the single-phase fluid (oil). Correlations giving the local and global Nusselt numbers, depending on the Graetz or Reynolds numbers and on the particle mass fraction, have been established.  相似文献

Ice slurry performance in a concentric corrugated tube heat exchanger is experimentally studied in this work in order to compare experimental results to theoretical prediction obtained using the correlations proposed in previous papers. Once the validity of those correlations is verified, the behaviour of the studied heat exchanger is analyzed for different ice slurry flow conditions and compared to the results obtained when a heterogeneous storage is used and only carrier fluid flows through the heat exchanger. According to the performance evaluation criterion used – variation in heat transfer rate for equal pressure drop and surface area – the most remarkable conclusion obtained is that slurry improves the behaviour of the heat exchanger studied for all the cases analyzed, although the increase in heat transfer rate is always lower than 15%, being in most cases lower than 5%.  相似文献

In this paper, a numerical study on the flow of an array of alternating horizontal or vertical oval cross-section pipes placed in a cross stream, resembling that encountered in a real cross-flow heat exchanger, is presented. The results include temperature contours and velocity vectors on the surface of the pipe and at several selected cross-sections, the local and sectional averaged Nusselt number distributions, and the overall Nusselt number variations versus the internal and external flow Reynolds numbers. The computation shows that the wall temperature varies dramatically along both the circumferential and the axial directions of the pipe, and is far different from a constant wall temperature distribution assumed in most previous studies. In general, the portion of the pipe with external wall facing forwards the cross-flow stream has lower temperature and higher local heat-transfer rate than the portion with wall facing backwards the cross-flow stream. At the maximum external flow Reynolds number, Re = 40, considered in this paper, the magnitude of pipe's overall Nusselt number is about one-sixth the magnitude of that calculated based on the ideal constant wall temperature assumption.  相似文献

In order to achieve widespread use of heat pumps across the full spectrum of potential applications, it is critical that the first cost of the units is acceptable. There are many factors influencing this cost, including the number of units manufactured, the ease of installation, the complexity of the control requirements, and the cost of the working fluid(s). A common feature of all heat pump cycles is the presence of at least one heat exchanger, indeed some heat-driven cycles are composed almost entirely of heat exchangers, each having a different but critical role to play. There are several important aspects of heat exchangers that can help to reduce first cost of these components and the system, (in addition to the possible positive impact on coefficient of performance). Two of these are discussed here — compact heat exchangers (CHEs) and heat transfer enhancement. The latter may be directly associated with CHEs but can be equally beneficial in reducing approach temperature differences in 'conventional' shell and tube heat exchangers. Both are essential features of many intensified processes, which the author argues need compatible heat pumps if the market for the latter is to flourish. In this paper, the most recent types of CHE are described, with emphasis on the benefits they can bring to heat pump first cost and performance. Heat transfer enhancement in heat pumps is also reviewed.  相似文献

Single-phase heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of a commercially available internally micro-finned tube with a nominal outside diameter of 7.94 mm were studied. Experiments were conducted in a double pipe heat exchanger with water as the cooling as well as the heating fluid for six sets of runs. The pressure drop data were collected under isothermal conditions. Data were taken for turbulent flow with 3300 ≤ Re ≤ 22,500 and 2.9 ≤ Pr ≤ 4.7. The heat transfer data were correlated by a Dittus–Boelter type correlation, while the pressure drop data were correlated by a Blasius type correlation. The correlation predicted values for both the Nusselt number and the friction factors were compared with other studies. It was found that the Nusselt numbers obtained from the present correlation fall in the middle region between the Copetti et al. and the Gnielinski smooth tube correlation predicted Nusselt number values. For pressure drop results, the present correlation predicted friction factors values were nearly double that of the Blasius smooth tube correlation predicted friction factors. It was also found that the rough tube Gnielinski and Haaland correlations can be used as a good approximation to predict the finned tube Nusselt number and ffriction factor, respectively, in the tested Reynolds number range.  相似文献

This paper presents heat transfer data for a multiport minichannel heat exchanger vertically mounted as an evaporator in a test-rig simulating a small water-to-water heat pump. The multiport minichannel heat exchanger was designed similar to a shell-and-tube type heat exchanger, with a six-channel tube of 1.42 mm hydraulic diameter, a tube-side heat transfer area of 0.777 m2 and a shell-side heat transfer area of 0.815 m2. Refrigerant propane with a desired vapour quality flowed upward through the tubes and exited with a desired superheat of 1–4 K. A temperature-controlled glycol solution that flowed downward on the shell-side supplied the heat for the evaporation of the propane. The heat transfer rate between the glycol solution and propane was controlled by varying the evaporation temperature and propane mass flow rate while the glycol flow rate was fixed (18.50 l min−1). Tests were conducted for a range of evaporation temperatures from −15 to +10 °C, heat flux from 2000 to 9000 W m−2 and mass flux from 13 to 66 kg m−2 s−1. The heat transfer coefficients were compared with 14 correlations found in the literature. The experimental heat transfer coefficients were higher than those predicted by many of the correlations. A correlation which was previously developed for a very large and long tube (21 mm diameter and 10 m long) was in good agreement with the experimental data (97% of the data within ±30%). Several other correlations were able to predict the data within a reasonable deviation (within ±30%) after some adjustments to the correlations.  相似文献

The objectives of this paper are to study the heat transfer characteristics for enhanced surface tubes in the pool boiling and to provide a guideline for the design conditions for the evaporator using HFC134a. The shape of tube surfaces, the wall superheat, and the saturation temperature are considered as the key parameters. Copper tubes (do = 19.05 mm) are treated with different helix angles and the saturation temperatures are controlled from 3 to 16 °C. It is found that the pool boiling heat transfer coefficient decreases with increasing the wall superheat. It is also found that boiling heat transfer coefficients for Turbo-II and Turbo-III are 1.5–3.0 times and 1.2–2.0 times higher than that for Turbo-I without the helix angle, respectively. The higher heat transfer performance from Turbo-II and Turbo-III can be explained by the “bubble detention” phenomenon on the surface without the helix angle for the Turbo-I. The experimental correlations for the pool boiling heat transfer on the present enhanced tubes without (Type I) and with the helix angle (Type II and Type III) are developed with the error bands of ±30%, respectively.  相似文献

The heat transfer in heat exchangers is commonly calculated using the concept of Logarithmic Mean Temperature Difference (LMTD). As is well known this approach is only valid for counter-current and co-current heat exchanger configurations. For other configurations, corrections for the deviation from pure counter-current are introduced. From any standard text book in heat transfer it may be found that the LMTD approach may also be used if condensation and evaporation occurs in the heat exchanger. The purpose of the present paper is to investigate if the LMTD approach can be used in a compact brazed plate evaporator. It will be shown through integration of the governing equations that the LMTD approach indeed may be used for practical cases, even though deviations occur at small logarithmic mean temperature differences. The article presents suggestions on the correction factor (F) needed under some simplified assumptions in a compact brazed plate heat exchanger operating as an evaporator for heat pump and refrigeration applications.  相似文献

A prototype liquid-to-refrigerant heat exchanger was developed with the aim of minimizing the refrigerant charge in small systems. To allow correct calculation of the refrigerant side heat transfer, the heat exchanger was first tested for liquid-to-liquid (water-to-water) operation in order to determine the single-phase heat transfer performance. These single-phase tests are reported in this paper. The heat exchanger was made from extruded multiport aluminium tubes and was designed similar to a shell-and-tube heat exchanger. The heat transfer areas of the shell-side and tube-side were approximately 0.82 m2 and 0.78 m2, respectively. There were six rectangular-shaped parallel channels in a tube. The hydraulic diameter of the tube-side was 1.42 mm and of the shell-side 3.62 mm. Tests were conducted with varying water flow rates, temperature levels and heat fluxes on both the tube and shell sides at Reynolds numbers of approximately 170–6000 on the tube-side and 1000–5000 on the shell-side, respectively. The Wilson plot method was employed to investigate the heat transfer on both the shell and tube sides. In the Reynolds number range of 2300–6000, it was found that the Nusselt numbers agreed with those predicted by the Gnielinski correlation within ±5% accuracy. In the Reynolds number range of 170–1200 the Nusselt numbers gradually increased from 2.1 to 3.7. None of the previously reported correlations for laminar flow predicted the Nusselt numbers well in this range. The shell-side Nusselt numbers were found to be considerably higher than those predicted by correlations from the literature.  相似文献

This paper presents the experimental tests on HFC-134a condensation inside a small brazed plate heat exchanger: the effects of refrigerant mass flux, saturation temperature and vapour super-heating are investigated.A transition point between gravity controlled and forced convection condensation has been found for a refrigerant mass flux around 20 kg/m2 s. For refrigerant mass flux lower than 20 kg/m2 s, the saturated vapour heat transfer coefficients are not dependent on mass flux and are well predicted by the Nusselt [Nusselt, W., 1916. Die oberflachenkondensation des wasserdampfes. Z. Ver. Dt. Ing. 60, 541–546, 569–575] analysis for vertical surface. For refrigerant mass flux higher than 20 kg/m2 s, the saturated vapour heat transfer coefficients depend on mass flux and are well predicted by the Akers et al. [Akers, W.W., Deans, H.A., Crosser, O.K., 1959. Condensing heat transfer within horizontal tubes. Chem. Eng. Prog. Symp. Ser. 55, 171–176] equation. In the forced convection condensation region, the heat transfer coefficients show a 30% increase for a doubling of the refrigerant mass flux. The condensation heat transfer coefficients of super-heated vapour are 8–10% higher than those of saturated vapour and are well predicted by the Webb [Webb, R.L., 1998. Convective condensation of superheated vapour. ASME J. Heat Transfer 120, 418–421] model. The heat transfer coefficients show weak sensitivity to saturation temperature. The frictional pressure drop shows a linear dependence on the kinetic energy per unit volume of the refrigerant flow and therefore a quadratic dependence on the refrigerant mass flux.  相似文献

In most domestic and commercial refrigeration systems, frost forms on the air-side surface of the air-to-refrigerant heat exchanger. Frost-tolerant designs typically employ a large fin spacing in order to delay the need for a defrost cycle. Unfortunately, this approach does not allow for a very high air-side heat transfer coefficient, and the performance of these heat exchangers is often air-side limited. Longitudinal vortex generation is a proven and effective technique for thinning the thermal boundary layer and enhancing heat transfer, but its efficacy in a frosting environment is essentially unknown. In this study, an array of delta-wing vortex generators is applied to a plain-fin-and-tube heat exchanger with a fin spacing of 8.5 mm. Heat transfer and pressure drop performance are measured to determine the effectiveness of the vortex generator under frosting conditions. For air-side Reynolds numbers between 500 and 1300, the air-side thermal resistance is reduced by 35–42% when vortex generation is used. Correspondingly, the heat transfer coefficient is observed to range from 33 to 53 W m−2 K−1 for the enhanced heat exchanger and from 18 to 26 W m−2 K−1 for the baseline heat exchanger.  相似文献

This paper reports heat transfer results obtained during condensation of refrigerant propane inside a minichannel aluminium heat exchanger vertically mounted in an experimental setup simulating a water-to-water heat pump. The condenser was constructed of multiport minichannel aluminium tubes assembled as a shell-and-tube heat exchanger. Propane vapour entered the condenser tubes via the top end and exited sub-cooled from the bottom. Coolant water flowed upward on the shell-side. The heat transfer areas of the tube-side and the shell-side of the condenser were 0.941 m2 and 0.985 m2, respectively. The heat transfer rate between the two fluids was controlled by varying the evaporation temperature while the condensation temperature was fixed. The applied heat transfer rate was within 3900–9500 W for all tests. Experiments were performed at constant condensing temperatures of 30 °C, 40 °C and 50 °C, respectively. The cooling water flow rate was maintained at 11.90 l min−1 for all tests. De-superheating length, two-phase length, sub-cooling length, local heat transfer coefficients and average heat transfer coefficients of the condenser were calculated. The experimental heat transfer coefficients were compared with predictions from correlations found in the literature. The experimental heat transfer coefficients in the different regions were higher than those predicted by the available correlations.  相似文献

This work discusses about the pressure drop and heat transfer characteristics of a plain fin, a strip fin and combinations thereof in the fin-and-tube heat exchanger. Experimental apparatus and test algorithm using scale-up model fin geometry are discussed. The present work uses the electric heaters inside of the tube as the heating source to simulate the hot water loop in the wind tunnel test. The test results of the plain and strip fins are compared with the existing correlation and experimental data. It was found that a hybrid fin, plain fin at front row and strip fin at rear row, was more effective to enhance the heat transfer than that of the whole strip fin at the same fan power.

This paper presents the experimental heat transfer coefficients and pressure drop measured during refrigerant R134a vaporisation inside a small brazed plate heat exchanger (BPHE): the effects of heat flux, refrigerant mass flux, saturation temperature and outlet conditions are investigated. The BPHE tested consists of 10 plates, 72 mm in width and 310 mm in length, which present a macro-scale herringbone corrugation with an inclination angle of 65° and corrugation amplitude of 2 mm.The experimental results are reported in terms of refrigerant side heat transfer coefficients and frictional pressure drop. The heat transfer coefficients show great sensitivity both to heat flux and outlet conditions and weak sensitivity to saturation temperature. The frictional pressure drop shows a linear dependence on the kinetic energy per unit volume of the refrigerant flow. The experimental heat transfer coefficients are also compared with two well-known correlations for nucleate pool boiling and a correlation for frictional pressure drop is proposed.  相似文献

The thermal-hydraulic performance under conditions of an initial frost growth on the air-side surface, and for subsequent ‘refrosting’ after a defrost period is experimentally studied for folded-louvered-fin, microchannel heat exchangers. In total, five heat exchangers are considered; the thermal performances during one frost-growth cycle for four different fin geometries are compared in terms of overall heat transfer coefficient, pressure drop, and j and f factors; the defrost and refrost characteristics of two heat exchangers are compared to explore geometry effects. Typically, the performance under refrosting conditions becomes periodic and repeatable after the third or fourth refrosting cycle. The allowable frost growth period (before a defrost is required), the defrost requirement, and the thermal-hydraulic performance depend on heat exchanger geometry for the specimens used in this study.  相似文献

Non-azeotropic refrigerant mixtures (NARMs) are investigated for a two-temperature level heat exchange process found in a domestic refrigerator-freezer. Ideal (constant air temperature) heat exchange processes are assumed. The results allow the effects of intercooling between the evaporator refrigerant stream and the condenser outlet stream to be examined in a systematic manner. For the conditions studied, an idealized NARM system will have a limiting coefficient of performance (COP) that is less than that of the best performing pure refrigerant component. However, for non-ideal heat exchange processes (gliding air temperature), the NARM-based system can have a higher limiting COP than a system running on either pure NARM component. Intercooling significantly affects the COP of NARM-based systems; however, depending on the location of ‘pinch points’ in the heat exchangers, only one intercooling heat exchanger may be needed to obtain a NARM's maximum refrigerator COP. The results are presented for mixtures of R22–R142b, R22–R123 and R32–R142b.  相似文献

The present paper discusses the results of an extensive investigation about the performance of various fin configurations, carried out in the Luve Contardo experimental facilities and aimed to enhance the heat transfer capabilities of air-cooled condensers and liquid coolers. Test results here discussed are relative to 15 coil prototypes, having the same tube and fin geometry (25×21.65 mm staggered 5/8” tube banks, 2 mm fin spacing) but different fin surface geometry, from flat to wavy to louvered to “winglet”. Different rates of heat transfer and pressure loss enhancement were obtained, also depending on the quality of the pressing process. General approaches to evaluate the “goodness” of one fin design with respect to another one provided questionable results: pressure loss influence on the air flow cannot be properly evaluated unless the actual fan head curve and the coil dimensions (front area and rows number) are stipulated. The performance of air-cooled condensers was therefore predicted and compared, for various fin design and for coil arrangements of practical interest. The type of fin adopted strongly influences the heat exchanger performance and louvered fins generally provide the best results.  相似文献

Convection heat transfer to spherical particles inside a hydrofluidisation freezing unit was investigated. The unit contained a food tank with a perforated bottom plate to create agitating jets. An aqueous solution of 30% ethanol+20% glucose was used as the refrigeration medium in a temperature range of −20 to 0 °C and flow rates from 5 to 15 l min−1. The lumped capacitance method was applied on cooling profiles of aluminium spheres of 5–50 mm to obtain surface heat transfer coefficients. Coefficients were within a range of 154–1548 W m−2 °C−1, and depended on diameter, flow rate, refrigeration temperature and fluid agitation level. The agitation due to jets was accounted for by means of an agitation Reynolds number in a Nusselt correlation A large variability of measured surface heat transfer coefficients was observed. This could be attributed to non-constant flow and turbulence fields in the refrigeration medium. The value of the heat transfer coefficient was compared to values determined on strawberries.  相似文献
