Dioxin pollution of aquatic sediments has been one of the important environmental problems in Japan. Grain size distribution and organic constituents may play important roles in dioxins contents in sediments, which have not been well investigated. This paper aims to quantify dioxins (PCDDs/Fs and co-PCBs) in sieved surface sediment fractions obtained from Kizu and Sumiyoshi Rivers in Osaka, Japan. The samples were prepared and analyzed following the 'Manual of the Survey and Measurement of Dioxins in Sediment' (Environment Agency of Japan, 2000). The results showed that TEQ concentrations of dioxins increased with decreasing grain size in sediment fractions. Sediment fractions with less than 20 microm grain size showed the highest dioxin contents. Dioxins with five and six chlorine atoms dominated other congeners in less than 20 microm fractions. The dioxin TEQ concentrations increased with total organic carbon (TOC), total carbon (TC), ignition loss (IL), total sulphur and nitrogen contents in the sediment fractions. Thus, reporting dioxin contents in sediments without considering grain size distribution may be erroneous, and conventional sedimentation and separation techniques might not be useful for treating contaminated sediments. This information can be useful for effective remediation of dioxin-contaminated sediments.  相似文献

Hydrogeochemistry and distribution of Pb, As, Cd, Sn and Hg in soils (n = 53), sediments (n = 42) and surface waters (n = 51) of the tropical Terengganu River basin, northeast coast of Peninsular Malaysia, were investigated. The order of abundance of the elements in soils followed granite > metasedimentary > Quaternary deposit ? volcanic with slight enrichment as compared to the upper continental crust. Both soils and sediments registered the order of concentration of Pb > Sn > As ? Cd ? Hg with an enrichment factor (EF) < 6 for sediments indicating slight enrichment representing the regional background and less likely due to the anthropogenic activity related input. SEM analysis revealed the presence of Malayaite (CaSnOSiO4) explaining elevated Sn concentration (up to ∼34 mg/kg; 3 times the upper continental crust) in soils. Soil Pb distribution showed the geology as the primary control.Dissolved concentrations of As showed an increasing and Cd decreasing with distance from upstream to downstream along the river flow path. Lake surface waters registered 16 times higher Cd concentrations (average ∼ 14.21 μg/L) than the river waters, but lake sediments registered lower Cd concentration than the river sediments (average ∼ 0.45 mg/kg) revealing Eh, pH and TDS control. Dissolved average Hg concentration (∼0.04 μg/L) was measured to be lower than the tropical river waters from the Central Africa river, but higher than the Mekong and the Amazon Rivers.  相似文献

In the summer of 1995, samples of suspended solids and bottom sediments were collected from the lower course of the Danube, downstream from potential pollution sources such as tributaries draining industrialised and densely populated watersheds (the Jiu, Olt, Arges and Ialomita rivers) or big cities on the border of the river (Tulcea, Galati, Braila), and from the Danube Delta. Chemical and toxicological analyses were carried out on these samples. In the present paper, the results of the measurements of the forms of particulate phosphorus are discussed. Phosphorus occurring in the bottom sediments and the suspended solids has various origins and chemical forms. These forms may be operationally defined as: organic phosphorus (OP ) , apatite inorganic phosphorus (AP) and non‐apatite inorganic phosphorus (NAIP). The AP shows low variability, ranging from 350 to 400 p.p.m. for suspended solids and from 425 to 500 p.p.m. for bottom sediments. This is essentially due to the detrital origin of this form. These values are typical for freshwater sediments in European rivers. The NAIP, which originates both from natural sources and from human pollution, shows a high variability. This indicates that the nutrient pollution is derived from both point and non‐point sources in the watershed. The NAIP concentrations of 800 p.p.m. (Vadul Oii) and 850 p.p.m. (Oltenita) are very high (fourfold the average for European rivers), indicating that strong anthropogenic sources of phosphorus are present in the lower Danube watershed. As the NAIP is potentially bioavailable, its high concentration may contribute to eutrophication in the lower Danube and the Danube Delta.  相似文献

The identification of contamination level and ecological risks, associated with heavy metal pollution of sediments in small hydropower cascade was done on the base of index analyses approach. The concentration of As, Cd, Cu, Hg, Pb, Zn, total organic carbon and percentage of fines were determined in sediments of two habitats in cascade sequence – river and dam. Correlation and multivariate analyses suggest that As, Cu, Pb and Zn are associated with similar anthropogenic source. Cadmium and mercury originate from different source and have specific moving. Based on the contamination and background indices the sediments in Middle Iskar cascade are moderate contaminated at least and are subject of intensive hydrological and technological mixing. The potential ecological risk index (PERI) classifies the sediments in dam site with the higher risk level. Suitable indicators for express assessment of metal pollution in “river” sediments are contamination/enrichment indices which are more sensitive for local concentration increase of less toxic metals. In “dam” sites the process of sedimentation affects strongly the degree of metals accumulation and differences in toxicity are clearly presented – PER/PERI in combination with content of fine sediment fractions and TOC have a potential for rapid identification of sediment-associated risks.  相似文献

In-site measurements of particle size spectra were obtained from three offshore cruises to evaluate the physical consequences of increased sediment transport and deposition offshore which was caused by episodic storm runoff water from the Santa Ana River watershed, a highly urbanised coastal watershed in southern California. Of the total annual runoff discharge to the coastal ocean, 89.2% occurred in the 2003/2004 winter season, and 0.22 Mt of sediment mass was transported during the storm events. The runoff plume at surface taken offshore by cross-shore currents progressed rapid aggregation and sedimentation, while the initially high concentration of suspended sediment discharged from the river outlet was dominated by small particles. Vertical profiles of particle size spectra revealed two separated plumes near the river outlet and turbidity plume along the bottom consisted of an abundance of very fine and dense particles. It would appear to support the theory that even if the storm runoff does not carry a high concentration of sediment being capable of generating negative buoyancy, sediment deposition on the shelf might mobilise in dense, fluid mud transported offshore by gravity. In a coastal pollution context, sediment particle size spectra information may offer potentially useful means of characterising particle-associated pollutants for purposes of source tracking and environmental interpretation.  相似文献

粤北大宝山铁多金属矿床的开发给周围环境带来了严重的危害。采选产生的酸性废水携带浸滤出的重金属离子流入横石河,严重影响矿区及其下游的生态环境。从尾砂、水体、河流底泥、土壤以及食用蔬菜探讨整个环境系统对锌的环境响应。结果表明,河流水中高锌含量直接源于尾砂,并受水体pH值的显著影响;河流底泥能够大量聚集水体中的锌,在pH值高时,相对稳定存在,当水体pH值降低时,锌会被再次从河流底泥中释放出来,形成河流二次污染;土壤中锌含量和土壤pH值有良好正相关关系;食用蔬菜中锌的高含量受土壤的锌总量决定,并受土壤pH值的影响,通过改善农业用灌溉水质,可以降低蔬菜重金属含量。  相似文献

We have studied the distribution and sorption behavior of phosphate and arsenate in bed-sediments of the Anllóns river (NW Spain). As a consequence of the intense gold-mining activity in the past, substantial amounts of arsenic were found in the river sediments. For phosphorus, higher concentrations were found near two sources of P pollution. Sorption isotherms were described by the Freundlich, Langmuir and Tempkin equations. In general, the sediments sorbed more P than As. The equilibrium P concentration (EPC) reveals that sediments act as a scavenger for soluble P; by contrast, equilibrium As concentration (EAC) values were high for the As-rich sediments and correlates well with total arsenic content. Amorphous Fe oxides content, organic matter and fraction of clay plus silt were the main properties of the sediments related with the sorption of arsenate and phosphate. The results obtained provide a first estimate of the sorption behavior and availability of the phosphate and arsenate anions in the sediments of the Anllóns river.  相似文献

采用电感耦合等离子体质谱仪和原子荧光分光光度计测定了长江源区主要河流沉积物及周边土壤中14种重金属的含量,并采用富集因子法评价了长江源区主要河流沉积物及土壤中重金属富集程度,同时分析了河流沉积物及沿岸土壤中重金属分布特征及来源。研究结果表明:长江源区主要河流表层沉积物中,除Ni、Pb、Cd、Hg四种重金属外,其他元素含量均低于中国沉积物的平均含量;沉积物中Hg、Ni和Cd存在一定富集;与长江源区其他河流沉积物中重金属相比,沱沱河Cd含量相对较高,楚玛尔河重金属含量均相对较低,而通天河Hg和Fe含量相对较高;沉积物中重金属主要受自然因素影响。土壤中Ni、Pb、Cd、Ti略高于青海省土壤背景值,但重金属富集程度均较低;与长江源区其他河流沿岸土壤中重金属相比,当曲Cr、Ni、Cu含量相对较高,沱沱河Pb、Cd、Sb和Tl含量相对较高,而通天河V含量相对较高;重金属主要受自然因素影响,但部分重金属可能受交通因素影响。研究成果可为长江源区生态环境保护提供基础支撑。  相似文献

洪湖沉积物碳氮磷分布特征及污染评价   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
洪湖是中国第七大淡水湖,富营养化问题日益突出。全面了解洪湖沉积物氮、磷、有机质的含量及分布特征,对掌握其富营养化现状与氮磷污染生态风险具有重要意义。在湖区布设了8个采样点,2019年10月采集50 cm柱状沉积物,分别测定不同深度沉积物总氮(TN)、总磷(TP)以及有机质(OM)含量,分析了TN、TP 和OM 含量的空间分布特征及相关性,并运用综合污染指数法评价其对应的污染程度。结果表明:洪湖沉积物TN含量在467.8~8 454.5 mg/kg之间,平均值2 167 mg/kg,为重度污染,其中近一半的采样点表层沉积物TN含量>5 000 mg/kg;TP含量在502.7~1 252.4 mg/kg之间,平均值693.8 mg/kg,除杨柴湖为重度污染外,其他大部分地区为中度污染;有机质含量占比在5.0%~24.9%之间,平均值9.6%,为重度污染。在垂直空间上,TN、TP 和OM 均在沉积物表层垂向深度0~20 cm存在明显的积累,其含量随垂向深度的增加而迅速降低。研究成果可为洪湖富营养化的控制与治理提供科学数据支撑。  相似文献

为探明赣江流域水库沉积物的重金属污染水平,分析测定了流域内7座中型水库沉积物中Cu、Cr、Zn、Pb、Cd、As、Hg等重金属含量,并采用地积累指数法、潜在生态风险指数法进行综合评价,同时,收集整理了库水和下游河道沉积物的污染情况进行对比分析。结果表明:流域典型水库沉积物中Cd、Cu为主要污染元素,但水库水体未受污染。地积累指数法评价结果显示,赣江流域水库沉积物Cd、Cu均属轻度污染程度,与流域内表层土壤的污染程度有关。潜在生态风险指数法结果显示,赣江流域水库沉积物重金属潜在生态风险总体处于中等风险。值得注意的是Pb元素的潜在生态风险属较强风险,其中极强风险、较强风险、中等风险的样点分别占14.28%、28.57%、28.57%。  相似文献

Levels of total mercury and total zinc in the sediments of Seneca Lake, New York, and of its principal tributary and outflow, show a pattern of industrial and municipal pollution in a predominantly rural environment. An interpolation technique based on the relationship of heavy metal concentration to overlying water depth is used to estimate the total mercury content of the upper 2 cm of Seneca Lake sediments, and the increment of mercury above an assumed unperturbed distribution. An approximate mass balance suggests that defunct industry and a 200 megawatt coal-burning power plant represent comparable pollution sources, and that most of the emitted mercury leaves the watershed in aqueous solution or as vapor. The distribution of zinc parallels that of mercury, with a relatively constant Zn/Hg ratio in the lake sediments.  相似文献

It has become general for surface waters being polluted by micro organic compounds. In order to know the current pollution situation and the properties of micro organic compounds in the Changjiang River, a test was performed on micro organic compounds in the water, bottom material and fish bodies which were sampled from major city river reaches of the Changjiang River. Based on the test result, researchers described and analyzed the sorts, concentration level and distribution features of micro organic compounds. A comprehensive evaluation was conducted by adopting the method of MEG (Multimedia Environmental Goals). The study indicated that ① the water body of major city river reaches of the Changjiang River has been generally polluted. In the test, totally 12 types with 308 kinds of organic compounds were detected. The main pollutants were paraffins, PAHs and lipids; and ② micro organic pollutant content in fish bodies was generally higher than that in bottom material which is in turn higher than that in water; and ③ pollution is relatively severe in the river reaches of mid-to-large comprehensive industrial cities with fairly great TAS (Total Ambient Severity) of public health and ecological system.  相似文献

为揭示石臼湖表层沉积物营养盐和重金属的污染特征,于2018年2月采集表层沉积物,分析了石臼湖营养盐和重金属的含量、空间分布特征。结果表明:全湖有机质、TP和TN的平均质量比分别为30.25 mg/kg、585 mg/kg和776 mg/kg,TP为无污染风险级别,有机质和TN处于低污染风险级别;重金属Cr、Ni、Cu、Zn、As、Cd、Hg和Pb平均质量比分别为94.92 mg/kg、41.25 mg/kg、38.42 mg/kg、124.33 mg/kg、16.48 mg/kg、0.17 mg/kg、0.05 mg/kg和35.92 mg/kg,均超过了江苏省的土壤重金属背景值,Hg和Cd污染相对较重,全湖为中等危害等级;在空间分布上,东部区域的采样点8、9营养盐质量比较高,重金属污染较重。  相似文献

Abstract

Water quality conservation in river basins calls for a useful decision support tool as well as a holistic approach in which the development and application of appropiate technology plays an important role in adequately understanding the natural processess involved. In this paper, the experiences in a major Mexican watershed are presented. Data analysis, experimental work, and modeling are applied to create a reasonable approach to describing water pollution and predicting the behavior of contaminants in the Lerma-Chapala basin, Mexico. The main difficulty in the formulation of different models was identifying the required independent parameters. Interaction parameters between water and sediment phases played a predominant role in the pollutant transport processes. Therefore, the modeling approach included not only water but other phases involved in the migration of pollutants (water, soil, suspended sediments, bottom sediments, atmosphere).  相似文献

The standing stocks of benthic organic matter (BOM) and some of its biochemical compounds (particulate organic carbon, particulate nitrogen, protein, and chlorophyll a) were investigated in the upper 12 cm of the sediments at several sampling sites in a free‐flowing and in an impounded river section of the lowland River Spree (Germany). Several environmental variables were recorded, in order to determine their potential influence on the organic matter content in the sediments. It was shown that the organic matter content in the upper sediment layers was mainly determined by the local hydrological regime, which was best reflected by the particle size distribution at the sampling sites. For the deepest investigated sediment strata, no influencing factors could be determined. The amount and quality of suspended matter was of minor importance to sediment composition. Also seasonal effects could not be detected. The impounded river section exhibited less seasonal variation in organic matter storage, as well as shorter carbon turnover lengths, longer carbon turnover times and lower rates of annual organic matter recycling than the free‐flowing river section, which indicates that changes in river hydraulics result in alterations to the organic matter budget. These alterations could be related to the changed mesohabitat composition and to the higher standing stocks of organic matter in the impounded river reach. We conclude that both morphological and hydrological alterations affect the structure and function of running water ecosystems because of their negative effect on the organic matter cycling. 长江流域水资源相对丰富,但存在降水时空分布不均、自然灾害频繁、城市需水增长快、供求矛盾加剧、水污染加重、用水效率低下等水资源问题.三峡水库的建设运用,外流域调水工程的实施打破了长江原有的水平衡.保证流域水资源的合理开发利用与调配对流域社会经济的发展极其重要,了解流域本身的水资源特点和问题,研究河流生态用水,分析不同功能、不同区域的水量分配额度,提出区域社会经济发展的水量分配方案,是水资源管理的基础,也是保障流域水资源的合理调配和可持续开发利用,维护河流健康发展的需求和根本.对适合长江流域特点的水量分配研究框架进行了探讨.  相似文献

High-resolution seismic reflection profiles, side-scan sonar profiles, and surface sediment analyses for grain size (% and, silt & clay), total organic carbon content, and carbonate content along shore-perpendicular transects offshore of Olcott and Rochester in Lake Ontario were utilized to investigate cm-thick sands or absence of deepwater postglacial sediments in water depths of 130 to 165 m. These deepwater sands were observed as each transect approached and occupied the “sills,” identified by earlier researchers, between the three deepest basins of the lake. The results reveal thin (0 to 5-cm) postglacial sediments, lake floor lineations, and sand-rich, organic, and carbonate poor sediments at the deepwater sites (> 130 m) along both transects at depths significantly below wave base, epilimnetic currents, and internal wave activity. These sediments are anomalous compared to shallower sediments observed in this study and deeper sediments reported by earlier research, and are interpreted to indicate winnowing and resuspension of the postglacial muds. We hypothesize that the mid-lake confluence of the two-gyre surface current system set up by strong storm events extends down to the lake floor when the lake is isothermal, and resuspends and winnows lake floor sediment at these locations. Furthermore, we believe that sedimentation is more likely to be influenced by bottom currents at these at these sites than in the deeper basins because these sites are located on bathymetric highs between deeper depositional basins of the lake, and the bathymetric constriction may intensify any bottom current activity at these sites.  相似文献

我国城市湖泊的生态系统功能下降,城市湖泊富营养化问题也日趋严重。城市湖泊的富营养化通常表现为磷限制,而湖泊沉积物是磷的主要归宿地。研究沉积物中磷的含量及分布特征,对探明其污染状况及湖泊富营养化的控制与治理具有重要的参考意义。洋澜湖作为典型的城市湖泊,近年来存在富营养化问题,以洋澜湖作为研究对象,分析其表层沉积物中的总磷(TP)浓度及空间分布特征,采用单因子指数法对沉积物中磷的污染情况进行评价,并选取3个代表性区域分析沉积物中磷的形态及垂向分布。结果表明,洋澜湖表层沉积物中TP的浓度为528~3 568 mg/kg,平均值1 096 mg/kg,其中西湖湖区的TP浓度最高,平均值1 362 mg/kg;洋澜湖表层沉积物总磷污染评价指数为0.88~5.95,表明整个湖区的沉积物均呈现一定程度的磷污染,其中轻度污染区域所占比例为9.38%,中度污染区域所占比例为32.81%,重度污染区域所占比例为57.81%。通过对沉积物中磷形态进行分析,沉积物中可交换态磷所占比例较小,铁铝结合态磷所占比例最高,是洋澜湖沉积物中磷释放的主要来源。  相似文献

The sediment formation mechanisms of a newly constructed reservoir in Ehime, Japan were evaluated by characterizing the soil particles (SP) and particulate phosphorus (PP) in the runoff and reservoir sediments. The SP and PP loads from the runoffs of the main river in the watershed considerably increased, when the specific discharge rates were over 300 l/s/km2 (high flow conditions). When the specific discharge rates exceeded over 300 l/s/km2, 19% of the watershed generated over 80% of the SP and PP loads. When the specific discharge rates were under 300 l/s/km2 (low flow conditions), the contributions of the previously mentioned 19% area to the SP and PP loads were smaller. Significant amounts of smectite were found in the sediments in the reservoir and in the soil samples obtained at the forest exposed area in this 19% area while it was negligible in citrus orchards and paddy fields that constituted the remaining land surfaces. The forest area exposed by recent landslides was significant for the SP and PP in the reservoir. Judging from the outcomes, land use information alone may not be sufficient to detect critical sources of SP and PP in the runoffs and reservoirs. To identify and confirm crucial areas for the SP and PP in the runoffs, the investigations should be conducted under high flow conditions and the composition of clay minerals in the sediments should be checked against the clay mineral distributions of soils in the watershed.  相似文献
