The Lyonet's gland is found in Lepidoptera larvae, close to the excretory duct of the silk gland. The role played by this gland is still uncertain. This work aims to describe the ultrastructure of the Lyonet's gland in Diatraea saccharalis larvae, offering suggestions regarding its possible function. The insects were reared under laboratory-controlled conditions. The glands were conventionally prepared for transmission (TEM) and scanning (SEM) electron microscopy. SEM showed that Lyonet's glands are paired small structures located in the ventral side of the head. They are composed by clustered long cells resembling leaves. Under TEM observations, each cell is surrounded by a thin basal lamina and contains large stellate nucleus. The cytoplasm presents large and empty canaliculi with small microvilli. The basal plasma membrane forms numerous infoldings where numerous and well-developed mitochondria are concentrated. The cytoplasmic membrane system is poorly developed. Our ultrastructural results suggest that the Lyonet's gland in D. saccharalis larvae may be involved in the uptake of small molecules from the hemolymph; no morphological evidences of macromolecules synthesis and secretion were noticed. The detection of nerve fibers in the gland suggest a neural control for the glandular cell function.  相似文献

The spermiogenesis of Sitophilus zeamais and Sitophilus oryzae, the maize and the rice weevil, respectively, was studied by light microscopy and scanning and transmission electron microscopy. Sitophilus spp. is the most widespread and destructive primary pest of stored cereals in the world. The spermiogenesis occurs within cysts. There are approximately 256 germ line cells per cyst. Inside each cysts, all the spermatids are in the same stage of maturation. The ultrastructure of the spermatozoa of S. zeamais and S. oryzae is similar to that described for other beetles. The head is formed by a three-layered acrosome with the perforatorium, the acrosomal vesicle, the extra-acrosomal layer and the nucleus. The flagellum has the typical axoneme formed by a 9+9+2 microtubules arrangement, two mitochondrial derivatives and two accessory bodies. The typical pattern for Curculionidae spermatozoa described here may provide useful information for future phylogenetic analysis of the superfamily Curculionoidea.  相似文献

This study was undertaken to detect protein components in both sperm types of the butterfly Euptoieta hegesia. These spermatozoa possess complex extracellular structures for which the composition and functional significance are still unclear. In the apyrene sperm head, the proteic cap presented an external ring and an internal dense content; basic proteins were detected only in external portions. In the tail, the paracrystalline core of mitochondrial derivatives and the axoneme are rich in proteins. The extratesticular spermatozoa are covered by a proteic coat, which presented two distinct layers. In eupyrene spermatozoa, acrosome and nucleus were negatively stained, probably because of their high compaction. In the tail, there is no paracrystalline core and the axoneme presented a very specific reaction for basic proteins. The lacinate and reticular appendages are composed of cylindrical sub-units and presented a light reaction to E-PTA and a strong reaction to tannic acid. A complex proteic coat also covers the extratesticular spermatozoa. We found similarities between both extratesticular coats, indicating a possible common origin. Both spermatozoon types are rich in proteins, especially the eupyrene appendages and the extratesticular coats. We believe that both coats are related to the sperm maturation and capacitation processes.  相似文献

The sensilla on the terminal antennomere of selected Hydradephagans (Coleoptera) are modified in several distinct ways as compared to the sensilla on the terminal antennomere of Geadephagans (Coleoptera). There are no long sensilla of any type on antennae of Hydradephagans, the sensilla are either short, peg-like sensilla that may be recessed in the antennal surface or they are multiporous plate-like sensilla. Multiporous plate-like sensilla have not been found on the antennae of Geadephagans. A pit sensillum occurs on the antennae of one family, Gyrinidae, in the Hydradephaga whereas it is found on the antennae of several species from the families of Geadephaga. The sensilla on the terminal antennomere of Hydradephaga are often grouped into sensory fields that could be located on a particular area of the antennomere. Sensory fields are also located on the apices of the maxillary and labial palps and the most unique sensory fields occur in the Noteridae. The maxillary palpal apex of Hydrocanthus oblongus (Noteridae) is bifurcate and a sensory field with several types of sensilla is at the apex of each branch. The terminal labial palpomere is greatly enlarged and has a long, slender sensory field at the apex and a secondary sensory field on a thumb-like projection. The sensilla on the palpal apices are more diverse and complex in form as compared to the sensilla on the palps of Geadephaga. The most complex sensillum has a cuticular collar and a dome that is divided into six or seven triangular sections. The dome may be opened or closed and a peg-like sensillum with a very wide apical pore is situated beneath the dome.  相似文献

The typology, number, and distribution pattern of antennal sensilla of the ground beetle Platynus dorsalis (Pontoppidan) (Coleoptera, Carabidae) were studied using scanning electron microscopy. The 4.3-4.6-mm-long filiform antennae of the beetles consist of the scape, pedicel, and nine flagellomeres. In both sexes, four subtypes of sensilla chaetica, five subtypes of sensilla basiconica, sensilla trichodea, two subtypes of sensilla campaniformia, sensilla auricillica, and sensilla coeloconica were distinguished. The possible function of the sensilla was discussed and three types of sensilla were considered as olfactory, sensilla trichodea and sensilla basiconica types 1 and 2. Olfactory sensilla form two separate, dorsal and ventral, fields of sensilla on the flagellomeres, which seems to be common in ground beetles. The total numbers of olfactory trichoid (approximately 1,000 hairs) and basiconic sensilla type 1 (1,700-1,800 pegs) on the antennae of P. dorsalis are 5-7 times higher than on the antennae of the ground beetle Bembidion lampros, suggesting that nocturnally active P. dorsalis is much more sensitive to odours perceived by these sensilla than B. lampros with diurnal activity and hunting predominantly by sight. No remarkable sexual differences in the types, numbers, and distribution of antennal sensilla were found in P. dorsalis.  相似文献

The wear of 52100 steel in boundary lubrication condition is controlled by the formation of nonhomogeneous, thin films. When tricresylphosphate is used as an antiwear additive, the buildup of the film is due to a chemical reaction process involving the bearing surface and the lubrication on or near the bearing surface.

A plane-on-plane-type tribometer using a 52100 steel specimen was used to determine the rate of wear and to follow the development of films by the use of the electrical contact resistance method. The results are correlated with the chemical analysis of the additive (polarographic method), with surface analysis of the film (AES and XPS spectroscopies) and finally with the surface topography (surface replicas and electron transmission spectroscopy).

During the mild wear test, several phases of wear are evidenced and the observed relation with TCP decomposition suggests a corrosive wear model proposed in the discussion. Explanations of observed phenomena are offered. (ECR increase, wear reduction, film formation).  相似文献
