Bronze–SiC–nickel coated graphite composites were fabricated by powder metallurgy technique (P/M). The tribological properties of composites sliding against AISI321 stainless steel pin were studied under sea water condition. The graphite is an effective solid lubricant in sea water environment. The SiC improved the hardness and tribological properties of composites. The friction coefficient of bronze–SiC–graphite composites increased with the increase of SiC. However, the specific wear rate of bronze–SiC–graphite composites decreased with increasing SiC. Bronze-2 wt% SiC-11.7 wt% nickel coated graphite composite showed the best tribological properties due to the synergistic effects of reinforcements.  相似文献

Silver, calcium fluoride (CaFx with x = 1.85) and chromium-carbon (Cr3C2) thin films were deposited onto various tribological test specimens by sputtering. The friction properties of sputter-deposited Ag and CaFx single layers as well as Ag/CaFx multilayer films were determined by ball-on-disk tribological tests conducted in room air under various experimental conditions. The tribological properties (friction coefficient and wear rate) of sputter-deposited CaFx films were also determined at 500°C by pin-on-disk tribological tests performed with pin specimens made of cobalt-based alloy (alacrite). Chromium-carbon films sputter-deposited onto alacrite disk and counterfaces were found to be of interest for reducing the formation of alacrite wear debris in the wear tracks; thus reduced friction coefficient and wear rate values were obtained. The friction behavior of sputter-deposited CaFx/Cr3C2 thin bilayer structures and plasma-sprayed (PS) chromium carbide/Ag/BaF2-CaF2 eutectic composite coatings (PS-212 type coatings) was investigated by plane-on-plane tribological tests conducted in room air at 500°C and 700°C. The friction performance of solid lubricant thin bilayer films was compared with that of thick PS-212 type coatings similar to coatings developed by NASA.  相似文献

Multifunctional tribological coatings rely on combinations of materials to improve properties, such as lubricity and wear resistance. For example, some polymer composites exhibit favorable tribological performance as solid lubricants. Here, classical molecular dynamics simulations are used to investigate the tribological behaviors of a mixed system of polyethylene (PE) sliding over polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) with the results compared with the sliding of the relevant homogeneous systems. In particular, oriented cross-linked PTFE and PE surfaces are slid in several relative sliding directions such that the surface chains are in-registry or out-of-registry and at various applied normal loads. The simulation results quantify the ways in which the mixed PTFE–PE system behaves differently than either of the homogeneous systems due to the lack of interlocking phases at the interface. These findings are compared with experimental production of polyetheretherketone (PEEK)–PTFE composites that have unusually low wear rates of 7.0 × 10−8 mm3/Nm, coupled with a steady, low friction coefficient of μ = 0.11 for over two million sliding cycles. The simulation results explain the atomic-scale origins of the frictional properties of this composite.  相似文献

Nb1−x Al x N hard coatings were synthesised by cathodic arc-evaporation with different Al contents to study its influence on the tribological properties. Ball-on-disc tests at temperatures up to 700 °C were performed and the recorded coefficient of friction was generally in the range from 0.8 to 1.0. Subsequent analysis of the coating wear track and the counterpart wear scar by optical profilometry and Raman spectroscopy revealed details on the wear behaviour of the tested coatings. The best wear performance for the Nb-rich coatings was in the temperature range of 300–500 °C, whereas at the maximum testing temperature the higher oxidation resistance with increasing Al content was beneficial in terms of wear resistance.  相似文献

Transition metal nitrides like CrN and TiN are widely used in automotive applications due to their high hardness and wear resistance. Recently, we showed that a multilayer architecture of CrN and TiN, deposited using the hybrid—high power impulse magnetron sputtering (HIPIMS) and direct current magnetron sputtering (DCMS)—HIPIMS/DCMS deposition technique, results in coatings which indicate not only increased mechanical and tribological properties but also friction coefficients in the range of diamond-like-carbon coatings when tested at RT and ambient air conditions. The modulated pulsed power (MPP) deposition technique was used to replace the HIPIMS powered cathode within this study to allow for a higher deposition rate, which is based on the complex MPP pulse configuration. Our results on MPP/DCMS deposited CrN/TiN multilayer coatings indicate excellent mechanical and tribological properties, comparable to those obtained for HIPIMS/DCMS. Hardness values are around 25 GPa with wear rates in the range of 2 × 10−16 Nm/m3 and a coefficient of friction around 0.05 when preparing a superlattice structure. The low friction values can directly be correlated to the relative humidity in the ambient air during dry sliding testing. A minimum relative humidity of 13% is necessary to guarantee such low friction values, as confirmed by repeated tests, which are even obtained after vacuum annealing to 700 °C. Our results demonstrate that the co-sputtering of high metal ion sputtering techniques and conventional DC sputtering opens a new field of applications for CrN/TiN coatings as high wear resistance and low friction coatings.  相似文献

The friction and wear properties of phosphor bronze and nanocrystalline nickel coatings were evaluated using a reciprocating ball-on-plates UMT-2MT sliding tester lubricated with ionic liquid and poly-alpha-olefin containing molybdenum dialkyl dithiocarbamate, respectively. The morphologies of the worn surfaces for the phosphor bronze and nanocrystalline nickel coatings were observed using a scanning electron microscope. The chemical states of several typical elements on the worn surfaces were examined by means of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Results show that the phosphor bronze and nanocrystalline nickel coatings exhibited quite different tribological behaviors under different lubricants. Phosphor bronze plate shows higher friction coefficient (0.14) and wear rate (3.2 × 10−5 mm3/Nm) than nanocrystalline nickel coatings (average friction coefficient is 0.097, wear rate is 1.75 × 10−6 mm3/Nm) under poly-alpha-olefin containing molybdenum dialkyl dithiocarbamate lubricated conditions. The excellent tribological performance of nanocrystalline nickel coatings under above lubricant can be attributed to the formation of MoS2 and MoO3 on the sliding surface. a quite a number of C, O and F products on worn surface of phosphor bronze than NC nickel coatings can improve anti-wear properties while using ionic liquid as lubricant.  相似文献

Bronze-uncoated and nickel-coated graphite composites were fabricated by powder metallurgy route. The tribological behaviors of composites sliding against AISI52100 steel ball under dry sliding condition were studied using a ball-on-disk tribometer. The nickel-coated graphite composites showed much better tribological properties in comparison with bronze and uncoated graphite composite. The friction coefficient of nickel-coated graphite composites decreased with increasing nickel-coated graphite content. However, the specific wear rate increased with the increase in nickel-coated graphite. The composite containing 15?wt% nickel-coated graphite showed the best self-lubricating properties because the compacted and stable mechanical mixed layer was formed on the worn surfaces. The wear mechanism of bronze 663 is adhesive wear and abrasive wear. The uncoated nickel-coated graphite composite shows the adhesive wear and delamination characteristics. However, the wear mechanism of nickel-coated composites is mildly abrasive wear.  相似文献

The tribological characteristics of sintered tin bronze with additions of oxides of aluminum and nickel have been studied. The addition of ultrafine particles of alumina or the mixture of alumina and nickel oxide to sintered tin bronze reduces the coefficient of friction, the temperature in the friction zone and the volume wear rate of the rubbing surfaces. The average coefficient of friction of the material does not change substantially over time. During wear, the chipping of oxide microparticles was observed, which led to a change in the roughness of the working surfaces. The presence of Motor Life Professional additive in oil reduces coefficient of friction, the temperature in the friction zone, and the volume wear rate of rubbing surfaces.  相似文献

The tribological performance of titanium alloy (Ti–6Al–4V) balls coated with a dual boride layer comprised of titanium diboride (TiB2) and titanium boride (TiB) whiskers mated against alumina ceramic disks has been determined using lubricated ball-on-disk wear testing. Measurements of coefficient of friction values and volumetric wear were made and electron microscopic investigation of wear spots and tracks was performed. The wear rate of the boride-coated titanium alloy balls was 40 times less than that of 97% dense alumina balls. Measurements of wear track width and depth corroborated this result. The superior wear resistance is attributed to the hardness and the unique structure of the dual (TiB2 + TiB) whisker layer and the consequent smoothness of the wear surface created during the wear process. The material removal mechanism is abrasive in nature in the boride-coated balls compared to grain fracture and pullout in alumina.  相似文献

Ni/carbon nanotube (Ni/CNTs) composite coatings were deposited on carbon steel plate by electroless deposition. The friction and wear properties were examined under dry sliding conditions using the ball-on-disk configuration. For reference, carbon steel plate was coated with Ni, Ni/SiC and Ni/graphite. The results show that the Ni/CNT coating has a microhardness value of 865 Hv, greater than for SiC reinforced composite deposits. The Ni/CNTs composite coating possesses not only a higher wear resistance but also a lower friction coefficient, resulting from their improved mechanical characteristics and the unique topological structure of the hollow nanotubes.  相似文献

The tribological properties of composite coatings consisting of silica nanoparticles dispersed in either a poly-methylmethacrylate (PMMA) or polystyrene (PS) matrix were assessed. The experiments were conducted using a reciprocating type of micro-tribotester under relatively low normal loads ranging from 5 to 15 mN. Results indicated that the wear resistance of PMMA could be significantly improved by adding silica particles at the cost of increased friction coefficient from 0.27 to 0.4. The effect of silica content on the wear resistance of PS was less apparent. Such outcome was attributed to the difference in the compatibility between silica and the polymer matrix.  相似文献

Tribological characteristics of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE) disks molded at 130–190 °C were studied. The highest crystallinity was obtained for the sheet molded at 130 °C, but crystallinity decreased with increasing molding temperature. Beyond 150 °C, the resultant crystallinity reached a constant level. The dynamic friction coefficients of these UHMW-PE disks were measured using a ball-on-disk friction tester. The friction coefficient decreased with increasing number of rotations in the early stage of the measurement, and achieved at an equilibrium level, independent of the molding temperature. The steady-state friction coefficient was 0.04 for the disk molded at 130 °C and increased with increasing molding temperature. The disks molded at 150–190 °C always had a steady-state friction coefficient of 0.065. The surface deformation of each disk was evaluated from the observation of the resultant wear track. Analyzing the relationship between the above friction coefficient and width of the wear track enabled us to interpret the tribological mechanism generated in this study.  相似文献

The dry sliding wear and friction behaviors of A356 aluminum alloy and a hybrid composite of A356 aluminum alloy and silicon carbide foam in the form of an interpenetrating phase composite were evaluated using a ball-on-disk apparatus at ambient conditions. The stationary 6.35 mm alumina ball produced a wear track (scar) diameter of 7 mm on the rotating specimen surface. Three different loads; 5 N, 10 N and 20 N were applied at a constant sliding speed of 33 mm/s for both materials. Wear tracks were characterized with a scanning electron microscope and measured with an optical surface profilometer. In general, this novel A356/SiC foam composite reduced the friction coefficient and wear rate from that of the base alloy for all loading conditions. In addition, as the load increased, the friction coefficient and wear rate decreased for both materials. The results indicate the composite could be used in light-weight applications where moderate strength and wear properties are needed.  相似文献

In the present work, industrial-scale DC-pulsed plasma nitriding for 20 h at 673 K was used to improve the wear resistance of an AISI 410 martensitic stainless steel. The tribological behaviour was studied and compared to the behaviour of the same steel in as-received condition.Pin-on-disc dry tests, using an alumina ball as counter-body, were carried out to determine the evolution of the friction coefficient. The wear resistance was investigated using an Amsler-disc-machine, employing a dry combined contact of rolling–sliding with three different applied loads. The wear mechanisms involved during rolling–sliding of unnitrided and plasma nitrided steels were investigated by microscopic observation of the surfaces, the corresponding cross-sections and the produced wear debris. The combination of different wear mechanisms taking place in the wear process of unnitrided and nitrided materials were discussed and analyzed. In contrast to the unnitrided steel, DC-pulsed plasma nitrided samples presented an improvement in the friction coefficient and the wear rate.  相似文献

To obtain a composite coating possessing both good conductivity and high wear resistance, a series of coatings with conductive graphite and epoxy resin were designed. The seepage critical value (SCV) of conductive coatings was used to identify the transformation between continuous phase and dispersed phase for graphite/epoxy composite coatings. Before SCV, the coatings were insulated with epoxy resin as continuous phase and the wear behavior was primarily characterized of adhesive wear with local adhesive spalling of epoxy resin. After SCV, the coatings appeared conductivity and the surface resistance decreased monotonically with the increase of graphite content. Both the curves of friction coefficient vs. graphite content and wear rate vs. graphite content showed the same model with two valleys at graphite content of 30% and 50%, respectively. At graphite content of 50%, an optimal solid lubricant film was obtained which leaded to the lowest friction coefficient and wear rate, due to a possible dynamic equilibrium between the transfer and spalling of debris. The tribological behaviors of these coatings were evaluated using a ring-on-block tribo-tester under dry sliding friction.  相似文献

In the present study, the effect of the Al2O3 particles (average size of 12 μm, 3 and 10 wt.%) reinforcement on the microstructure and tribological properties of Al–Si alloy (A356) was investigated. Composites were produced by applying compocasting process. Tribological properties of unreinforced alloy and composites were studied, using pin-on-disc tribometer, under dry sliding conditions at different specific loads and sliding speed of 1 m/s. Microhardness measurements, optical microscope and scanning electron microscope were used for microstructural characterization and investigation of worn surfaces and wear debris. During compocasting of A356 alloy, a transformation from a typical dendritic primary α phase to a non-dendritic rosette-like structure occurred. Composites exhibited better wear resistance compared with unreinforced alloy. Presence of 3 wt.% Al2O3 particles in the composite material affected the wear resistance only at specific loads up to 1 MPa. The wear rate of composite with 10 wt.% Al2O3 particles was nearly two order of the magnitude lower than the wear rate of the matrix alloy. Dominant wear mechanism for all materials was adhesion, with others mechanisms: oxidation, abrasion and delamination as minor ones.  相似文献

The tribological behavior of potassium titanate whiskers (PTW) reinforced polyetheretherketone (PEEK) composite has been investigated using the pin-on-disk configuration at different applied loads under water lubricated condition. It was found that the incorporation of the PTW into PEEK would achieve high wear resistance and low friction coefficient at low load. When the applied load increased up to 4 MPa, only the composite filled with 5 wt% PTW showed a significant improvement in the frictional reduction and wear resistance; on the contrary, a rapid increasing of the friction coefficient was observed for the composites of high PTW content. In the meantime, the severe wear loss occurred along with the sharply increasing temperature. This sudden deterioration of the wear resistance should be attributed to the change of the wear mechanism. The main wear mechanism of mild fatigue for the neat PEEK and mild abrasive wear for the 5 wt% PTW filled composite did not alter with the rising of the load. In this case, no transfer film could be detected on the counterpart surface. However, for the high PTW filled composites, the wear mechanism changed from the mild abrasive wear at low applied load to the severe fatigue wear at high load. Large amounts of wear debris were generated by the fatigue-delamination of the composite surface. And then, the debris served as third-body abrasives during the subsequent sliding process and the wear mechanism changed to severe abrasive wear. And unexpectedly, a thick and lumpy transfer film was formed on the counterface.  相似文献

Laser surface texturing (LST) was performed on the nickel-based composites by a Nd:YAG pulsed laser and the regular-arranged dimples with diameter of 150 μm were fabricated on their surfaces. The textured surfaces were smeared with molybdenum disulfide powder. The tribological properties of the textured and filled composites were investigated by carrying out sliding wear tests against an alumina ball as a counterface using a high temperature ball-on-disk tribometer. The tests were conducted at a sliding speed of 0.4 m/s and at normal loads ranging from 20–100 N and from room temperature to 600 °C. The friction coefficient of nickel-based composite textured and smeared with molybdenum disulfide was found to reduce from 0.18 to 0.1 at the temperature range from 200 to 400 °C. The texture with a dimple density of 7.1% was observed to prolong wear life of MoS2 film by more than four times in comparison to the texture with other dimple densities. The lubricious oxide particles stored in the dimples reduce friction coefficient at elevated temperatures and compensate for the extra lubricant owing to the degradation of MoS2 caused by its oxidation at high temperatures.  相似文献

The effect of wax-containing microcapsules incorporated in silicone composite coatings deposited on aluminum (Al) alloy substrates on the tribological performance of the coatings was systematically investigated. The wax-containing microcapsules were prepared via in situ polymerization. The tribological behavior of the composite coatings was evaluated using ball-on-disk tribological test. It was found that the increase in microcapsule concentration in the composite coatings apparently reduced the friction coefficient of the coatings because the lubricant released from the broken microcapsules during the tribological test of the coatings lubricated the rubbing surfaces. The results showed that the silicone composite coatings rubbed by a smaller Cr6 steel ball (3 mm diameter) under a lower normal load (100 mN) produced higher friction coefficients via reduced complication of their underlying strong substrates compared to the same coatings tested against a larger Cr6 steel ball (6 mm diameter) under a higher normal load (1 N).  相似文献
