Context-aware middleware for resource management in the wireless Internet   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The provisioning of Web services over the wireless Internet introduces novel challenging issues for service design and implementation: from user/terminal mobility during service execution, to wide heterogeneity of portable access devices and unpredictable modifications in accessible resources. In this scenario, there are frequent provision-time changes in the context, defined as the logical set of accessible resources depending on client location, access terminal capabilities, and system/service management policies. The development of context-dependent services requires novel middlewares with full context visibility. We propose a middleware for context-aware resource management, called CARMEN, capable of supporting the automatic reconfiguration of wireless Internet services in response to context changes without any intervention on the service logic. CARMEN determines the context on the basis of metadata, which include declarative management policies and profiles for user preferences, terminal capabilities, and resource characteristics. In addition, CARMEN exploits the mobile agent technology to implement mobile middleware components that follow the provision-time movement of clients to support locally their customized service access. The proposed middleware shows how metadata and mobile agents can favor component reusability and automatic service reconfiguration, by reducing the development/ deployment complexity.  相似文献

Transaction execution in mobile environments needs to be flexible, not only to support typical mobile computing characteristics, like movement, disconnections and limited resources, but also to support the variety of transactional properties that might be required by different applications. Existing models for mobile transaction management solve different aspects of transaction execution, but are not flexible enough to solve all required aspects. Instead of designing a new transaction model, we propose a middleware (MobileTSe) which utilize existing transaction models to handle various requirements for mobile transaction execution. This paper presents an approach for flexible transaction processing in mobile applications, and describes how MobileTSe makes transaction services with different properties available on mobile units. We suggest a solution with transaction service discovery and control using UPnP.  相似文献

The proliferation of smartphones and the recent advancement in ubiquitous wireless access have made mobile Web services more possible than ever before. However, finding relevant Web services that can match requests and fit user context remains a major concern. The challenges facing Web service discovery are further magnified by the stringent constraints of mobile devices and the inherit complexity of wireless heterogeneous networks. Cloud computing, with its flexible design and theoretically unlimited computing resources, is a viable approach to bootstrapping Web service discovery. The cloud can build bridges between mobile devices, as a convenient ubiquitous interface, and a backbone infrastructure with abundant computing resources. This paper introduces “Discovery as a service (Daas)”, a novel cloud-based discovery framework that addresses the core components of mobile Web service discovery. The DaaS framework lays the foundation of efficient mobile Web service discovery that takes into consideration user preferences and context. The experimental validation and performance evaluation demonstrate that DaaS can effectively rank relevant services according to the various user context and preferences, in addition to enhancing the precision of the discovered services. The prototype also shows that Web service clustering for discovery significantly improves the overall response time, while the cloud maintains scalability according to prespecified performance criteria.  相似文献

普适计算环境下的智能移动设备是面向终端用户的服务资源聚集和编排的主要载体。普适计算环境中的服务资源具有多种不同的形态,包括基于互联网提供的Web服务、终端设备自身服务和资源(例如本地应用、自带传感器)以及所处环境中可访问的服务(例如环境传感器)。此外,不断变化的上下文环境对软件本身的自适应能力提出了新的要求,而移动设备上的服务编排受设备计算能力和资源的限制。为了解决上述问题,提出了一个面向普适计算环境的Android平台服务编排框架ASOF。通过ASOF,移动终端可在运行时获取所需业务流程的服务模板,并对该模板中的抽象服务进行服务绑定,实现轻量级的混合服务编排,使终端能够动态获得调用普适计算环境中各种类型的服务的能力。随后,基于OSGi Felix框架给出了一套ASOF的标准实现,并以一个具体案例验证其有效性。  相似文献

The Grid is an integrated infrastructure that can play the dual roles of a coordinated resource consumer as well as a donator in distributed computing environments. The enormous growth in the use of mobile and embedded devices in ubiquitous computing environment and their interaction with human beings produces a huge amount of data that need to be processed efficiently anytime anywhere. However, such devices often have limited resources in terms of CPU, storage, battery power, and communication bandwidth. Thus, there is a need to transfer ubiquitous computing application services to more powerful computational resources. In this paper, we investigate the use of the Grid as a candidate for provisioning computational services to applications in ubiquitous computing environments. In particular, we present a competitive model that describes the possible interaction between the competing resources in the Grid Infrastructure as service providers and ubiquitous applications as subscribers. The competition takes place in terms of quality of service (QoS) and cost offered by different Grid Service Providers (GSPs). We also investigate the job allocation of different GSPs by exploiting the noncooperativeness among the strategies. We present the equilibrium behavior of our model facing global competition under stochastic demand and estimate guaranteed QoS assurance level by efficiently satisfying the requirement of ubiquitous application. We have also performed extensive experiments over Distributed Parallel Computing Cluster (DPCC) and studied overall job execution performance of different GSPs under a wide range of QoS parameters using different strategies. Our model and performance evaluation results can serve as a valuable reference for designing appropriate strategies in a practical grid environment.  相似文献

Cloud can be defined as a new computing paradigm that provides scalable, on-demand, and virtualized resources for users. In this style of computing, users can access a shared pool of computing resources which are provisioned with minimal management efforts of users. Yet there are some obstacles and concerns about the use of clouds. Guaranteeing quality of service (QoS) by service providers can be regarded as one of the main concerns for companies tending to use it. Service provisioning in clouds is based on service level agreements representing a contract negotiated between users and providers. According to this contract, if a provider cannot satisfy its agreed application requirements, it should pay penalties as compensation. In this paper, we intend to carry out a comprehensive survey on the models proposed in literature with respect to the implementation principles to address the QoS guarantee issue.   相似文献

This paper presents an agent-based and context-oriented approach that supports the composition of Web services. A Web service is an accessible application that other applications and humans can discover and invoke to satisfy multiple needs. To reduce the complexity featuring the composition of Web services, two concepts are put forward, namely, software agent and context. A software agent is an autonomous entity that acts on behalf of users and the context is any relevant information that characterizes a situation. During the composition process, software agents engage in conversations with their peers to agree on the Web services that participate in this process. Conversations between agents take into account the execution context of the Web services. The security of the computing resources on which the Web services are executed constitutes another core component of the agent-based and context-oriented approach presented in this paper.  相似文献

The GEMSS project has developed a service-oriented Grid that supports the provision of medical simulation services by service providers to clients such as hospitals. We outline the GEMSS architecture, legal framework and the security features that characterise the GEMSS infrastructure. High levels of quality of service are required and we describe a reservation-based approach to quality of service, employing a quality of service management system that iteratively finds suitable reservations and uses application specific performance models. The GEMSS Grid is a commercial environment so we support flexible pricing models and a FIPA reverse English auction protocol. Signed Web Service Level Agreement contracts are exchanged to commit parties to a quality of service agreement before job execution occurs. We run four experiments across European countries using high performance computing resources running advanced resource reservation schedulers. These experiments provide evidence for our Grid’s rational behaviour, both at the level of service provider quality of service management and at the higher level of the client choosing between competing service providers. The results lend support to our economic model and the technology we use for our medical application domain.  相似文献

随着移动计算技术的发展,移动设备用户可以服务的方式共享移动设备及其周围设备的计算能力和计算资源.然而,移动设备的私有性、资源受限性以及移动性等特征使得这种基于移动设备提供的个人化服务在发布和组装方面存在着一些特殊问题,例如用户隐私、移动设备资源消耗、网络环境变化引起的失效问题等.针对以上这些问题,提出一种移动计算环境下的个人化服务发布和组装方法.该方法在个人化服务发布过程中引入了服务意愿的概念,并在服务选择过程中综合考虑了服务意愿和服务效用.此外,还提出了资源感知的心跳机制来定期更新服务选择所依赖的设备及服务状态信息,从而解决由于网络环境变化等引起的服务失效问题.基于该方法,提出了一个基于JADE和OSGi的实现框架.通过一个案例分析,验证了所提出的实现框架的有效性以及在移动计算环境下考虑服务意愿的合理性.  相似文献

Mobile cloud computing is a dynamic, virtually scalable and network based computing environment where mobile device acts as a thin client and applications run on remote cloud servers. Mobile cloud computing resources required by different users depend on their respective personalized applications. Therefore, efficient resource provisioning in mobile clouds is an important aspect that needs special attention in order to make the mobile cloud computing a highly optimized entity. This paper proposes an adaptive model for efficient resource provisioning in mobile clouds by predicting and storing resource usages in a two dimensional matrix termed as resource provisioning matrix. These resource provisioning matrices are further used by an independent authority to predict future required resources using artificial neural network. Independent authority also checks and verifies resource usage bill computed by cloud service provider using resource provisioning matrices. It provides cost computation reliability for mobile customers in mobile cloud environment. Proposed model is implemented on Hadoop using three different applications. Results indicate that proposed model provides better mobile cloud resources utilization as well as maintains quality of service for mobile customer. Proposed model increases battery life of mobile device and decreases data usage cost for mobile customer.  相似文献

Mobile devices with their more and more powerful resources allow the development of mobile information systems in which services are not only provided by traditional systems but also autonomously executed and controlled in the mobile devices themselves. Services distributed on autonomous mobile devices allow both the development of cooperative applications without a back‐end infrastructure and the development of applications blending distributed and centralized services. In this paper, we propose MicroMAIS: an integrated platform for supporting the execution of Web service‐based applications natively on a mobile device. The MicroMAIS platform is composed of mAS and μ‐BPEL. The former allows the execution of a single Web service, whereas the latter permits the orchestration of several Web services according to the WS‐BPEL standard. Mobile devices and server applications often run on different platforms, which can make integration problematic. Web services might offer a solution, but they typically include XML protocols that are too "heavy" for mobile devices. In this article, we describe agent-based mobile services framework. It uses wireless portal networks and eliminates XML processing on mobile clients. The Virtual Home Environment is very important in contemporary mobile telecommunications infrastructure as it caters for the ubiquitous provision of services irrespective of network, location and user device. The universality of systems like Universal Mobile Telecommunications System and wi-fi increases the need for the rapid introduction of efficient VHE schemes. In this paper, we study the adoption of Mobile Agents for handling the VHE functionality. Mobile agents are nicely harmonized with the broader idea of VHE as they allow the autonomous execution of tasks by components that roam from node to node and network to network. We present the detailed modeling of a VHE provisioning architecture and investigate its suitability for different use cases and technical options (e.g., end user devices). The adoption of mobile agents for the ubiquitous provision of telecommunication services is quite promising in terms of efficiency. Through a series of experiments we quantify the performance benefits stemming from the adoption of mobile agents in contrast to conventional service provisioning schemes.  相似文献

Modern mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, have made many pervasive computing dreams come true. Still, many mobile applications do not perform well due to the shortage of resources for computation, data storage, network bandwidth, and battery capacity. While such applications can be re-designed with client–server models to benefit from cloud services, the users are no longer in full control of the application, which has become a serious concern for data security and privacy. In addition, the collaboration between a mobile device and a cloud server poses complex performance issues associated with the exchange of application state, synchronization of data, network condition, etc. In this work, a novel mobile cloud execution framework is proposed to execute mobile applications in a cloud-based virtualized execution environment controlled by mobile applications and users, with encryption and isolation to protect against eavesdropping from cloud providers. Under this framework, several efficient schemes have been developed to deal with technical issues for migrating applications and synchronizing data between execution environments. The communication issues are also addressed in the virtualization execution environment with probabilistic communication Quality-of-Service (QoS) technique to support timely application migration.  相似文献

Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs) are transient networks formed dynamically by a collection of arbitrarily located wireless mobile nodes without relying on any existing network infrastructure or centralized administration. They are either stand alone or connected to a fixed infrastructure such as 3G. They are useful in situations such as natural disasters, and their use is gaining more and more momentum. This paper proposes a framework for service provisioning in stand-alone MANETs. It focuses on the invocation and execution phases of the service life cycle. The framework is based on SIP servlets and comprises a novel business model and an overlay network. The business model enables service invocation and execution. The overlay network is used for service execution and is based on a distributed SIP servlets engine. Validation aspects are also discussed.  相似文献

Efficient resource allocation of computational resources to services is one of the predominant challenges in a cloud computing environment. Furthermore, the advent of cloud brokerage and federated cloud computing systems increases the complexity of cloud resource management. Cloud brokers are considered third party organizations that work as intermediaries between the service providers and the cloud providers. Cloud brokers rent different types of cloud resources from a number of cloud providers and sublet these resources to the requesting service providers. In this paper, an autonomic performance management approach is introduced that provides dynamic resource allocation capabilities for deploying a set of services over a federated cloud computing infrastructure by considering the availability as well as the demand of the cloud computing resources. A distributed control based approach is used for providing autonomic computing features to the proposed framework via a feedback-based control loop. This distributed control based approach is developed using one of the decomposition–coordination methodologies, named interaction balance, for interactive bidding of cloud computing resources. The primary goals of the proposed approach are to maintain the service level agreements, maximize the profit, and minimize the operating cost for the service providers and the cloud broker. The application of interaction balance methodology and prioritization of profit maximization for the cloud broker and the service providers during resource allocation are novel contributions of the proposed approach.  相似文献

Web服务已经成为互联网中最为重要的一种计算资源和软件资产,Web服务的大量涌现对服务发现提出了挑战。Web服务发现的关键是Web服务的语义描述的准确性和Web服务检索引擎的检索效率。提出了一种基于本体的Web服务描述方法,采用OWL-S对Web服务进行语义描述,并提出了针对性的Web服务检索引擎。通过试验,该模型结合语义Web服务技术实现Web服务的动态查找与组合,可提高Web服务发现的查全率和查准率。  相似文献
