Editors' Overview (Dec. 1982 Transactions)

This issue includes a sampling of papers presented at the 1982 IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium. These papers are expanded versions of the Symposium presentations, published to provide substantially more information than originally appeared in the Symposium Digest. In this issue we have provided a listing of all the papers presented at the Symposium by publishing the Table of Contents from the Symposium Digest. Also included are articles highlighting the 1982 International Microwave Symposium and recognizing the winners of the 1981 Microwave Theory and Techniques Society Awards.     

Introduction to the Special Issue on the 2006 Radio Frequency Integrated Circuits (RFIC) Symposium

The 11 papers in this special issue are extended versions of papers presented at the 2006 Radio Frequency Integrated Circuits (RFIC) Symposium, held in San Francisco, CA, June 11-13, in conjunction with the International Microwave Symposium. They encompass topics in wireless receivers, wireless transceivers, wireless sensor networks, front-end circuitry and analog-to-digital (A/D) converters.     

The 1982 International Geoscience And Remote Sensing Symposium: A Summary

IGARSS'82 (the International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium) was held from June 1-4, 1982 at the University of Munich, Munich, West Germany. A comprehensive technical program was presented with many excellent papers on the utility of remote sensing techniques for geoscientific research, major international remote sensing programs, and missions in the planning stage, new generation remote sensor systems, and recent advances in data processing and image classification techniques. Sponsored by the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society as an annual symposium, IGARSS is an important international forum for the dissemination and discussion of research results and planning activities in the important fields of geoscience and remote sensing.

This issue of the TRANSACTIONS presents a synopsis of the 1977 International Microwave Symposium. While the Symposium Digest gives in entirety the 152 papers, a few papers were selected for expansion and are contained herein. Also included is a resume of the Symposium functions, including the technical program, exhibits, social programs, and members of the Steering and Program Committees. Special attention is given to those we honored at the awards banquet.

The motto of the 1985 MTT-S International Symposium was Microwaves: Gateway to the Future, and it was held in St. Louis, within sight of the Gateway Arch, symbol of an earlier successful drive to the future. In this Symposium Issue of the IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, we are publishing expanded and detailed versions of a small but representative fraction of the more than one hundred and fifty technical papers that were presented during the three days of the Symposium.     

Special Section on The International Symposium on Semiconductor Manufacturing

The eleven papers in this special section were originally presented at the 15th International Symposium on Semiconductor Manufacturing (ISSM), held on September 25-27, 2006, in Tokyo, Japan.     

2008 International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation

The 2008 International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation (ISAP 2008) took place at the Taipei International Convention Center (TICC), Taipei, Taiwan, from October 27–30, 2008. It was organized by Yuan Ze University and the Oriental Institute of Technology, with the financial support of Far Eastern Y. Z. Hsu Science and Technology Memorial Foundation; National Science Council (NSC), Taiwan; Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), Taiwan; and Ministry of Education (MOE), Taiwan. The Symposium enjoyed technical co-sponsorship from the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE); the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S); and IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRS-S); together with the support of the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), Taiwan.
