Influence of a Jump in the Power of Laser Radiation on Its Measurement

Simulation and investigation of the effect of an isolated jump on realization of the unit of power of laser radiation and dissemination of the size of the unit are considered. Results are obtained by means of a newly developed algorithm that characterizes the behavior of the mean value of a signal and the standard deviation of a system as functions of the parameters of a jump in the power of laser radiation and the length and amplitude of the jump. If information concerning the time when a jump occurs is available, the proposed algorithm makes it possible to take into account how a jump affects the ultimate result of a measurement.     

Application of Laserstar Power Meter for Determination of the Stability of Laser Radiation Power

The potential for the use of the Laserstar power meter for the determination of the stability of laser radiation power is considered. A relation is established between the discreteness of the reader and the resolution in the determination of the stability of laser power. Examples illustrating the determination of the stability of the radiating power of certain lasers are presented.     

Method of Extending the Dynamic Range of the Secondary Standard of the Units of Mean Power and Energy of Laser Radiation

A method of extending the dynamic range of the secondary standard of the units of the mean power and energy of laser radiation into the low-level region is considered. A technique of calculating the optimal transmission coefficients for a set of attenuators is developed.     

System for Monitoring the Spatial Energy Distribution of Laser Radiation Utilizing an IBM-Type Personal Computer

The results are presented of the development of set of basic circuits providing for the thermostatting of the heat-sensitive layer of a multielement receiver utilizing VO₂, the readout and measurement of information in the plane of a multielement laser radiation receiver, and the interfacing of the receiver with an IBM PC/AT personal computer.

A Radiometer for Precision Coherent Radiation Measurements

A radiometer has been designed for precision colierent radiation measurements and tested for long-term repeatability at wavelengths of 488 and 633 nm. The radiometer consists of a pn silicon photodiode maintained in a nitrogen atmosphere with a quartz window designed to eliminate interference problems. Ratio measurements between the radiometer and an absolute type detector were made over a period of 215 d. At 0.5 mW, the standard deviations were 0.008% and 0.009% at 488 and 633 nm, respectively. The maximum deviations from the mean were 0.016% and 0.015% at the respective wavelengths. Measurements were also made on the radiometer with respect to angular and spatial uniformity and linearity. The high precision, simplicity, and portability of the radiometer suggest it for use as a transfer standard for radiometric measurements.     

Consideration of the Effect of Instability of the Laser Emission Power on the Final Result of the Reproduction of the Unit of Mean Laser Emission Power and the Transmission of Its Dimensions

An algorithm for reconstructing the form of continuous laser emission at the input of a system for measuring the standard of the unit of mean laser power is presented. The power can also be calculated using this algorithm.

Results are given of the investigation of the mechanisms of energy transfer to a target in different modes of a microsecond pulse of laser radiation acting a metal target in standard-density air.
