A joint field/circuit model is proposed in this paper to characterize a class of line-to-ring coupling structures for design and optimization of microstrip dual-mode filters and ring resonator circuits. The generic model is derived from field theory and presented in terms of circuit elements by applying a newly developed numerical deembedding technique called “short-open calibration” in a deterministic method-of-moments scheme. It provides a new design strategy for characterizing and optimizing electrical performance of the line-to-ring coupling structures. Such three-port topologies are explicitly formulated by using an equivalent network having circuit elements calculated by the proposed joint field/circuit model. Three microstrip tightly coupling geometries and their related ring resonators are studied with the extracted J-inverter susceptance parameters. Experiments are performed to validate the joint model and also show coupling characteristics of the three types of line-to-ring circuit for the design of ring resonators and dual-mode filters. With this new technique, an optimized microstrip dual-mode filter is successfully designed and the prediction agrees well with our measurements  相似文献

The paper presents for the first time some new results in the form of design curves associated with one band-reject (br) filter configurations of four-terminal uniform and non-uniform R-C-KR microstructures. The circuit is found to have a notch behaviour in uniform configuration and band-rejection filter characteristics in non-uniform configuration. The band-reject filter requirements are shown to be achieved by a suitable combination of parameters of the microsystem structure.  相似文献

This paper presents a novel concept of a square-shaped dielectric-waveguide resonator, which can easily realize a dielectric-waveguide cross-coupled filter or a dielectric-waveguide dual-mode filter, using the conventional printed circuit board (PCB) process. This planar dielectric-waveguide resonator has a higher Q value than a microstrip resonator. The physical mechanisms of both single- and dual-mode filters are elucidated. Some new coupling structures are developed for undergoing the PCB process. Filter design procedures are detailed. Design curves for the coupling coefficients of internal- and external-coupling structures are determined by full-wave finite-element-method electromagnetic calculations. Measurement results are highly consistent with theory for all trial filters. This study offers an effective means of producing low-cost high-performance planar circuit filters.  相似文献

In this paper, we report on the results of an investigation into dual-mode operation of microstrip triangular patch resonators and their applications for designing dual-mode bandpass filters. It has been found theoretically that the dual modes can result from the rotation and superposition of a fundamental mode. The characteristics of the dual modes and their mode splitting are described. The applications of this new type of dual-mode microstrip patch resonator in the design of microwave planar filter are presented. A circuit model for operation of this type of filter is proposed. Two- and four-pole filters of this type are demonstrated for the first time. Both theoretical and experimental results are presented.  相似文献

This article presents a dual-mode resonator developed from a hairpin resonator with a reactive perturbation tapped at the mid-point. The dual-mode resonance characteristics are investigated intensive under both inductive and capacitive perturbations. Using this resonator, a method of synthesising the filter is also developed to determine the circuit layout directly according to the specified filter characteristics. Moreover, to improve the filter's performance, cross-coupling technique to realise quasi-elliptic responses is also discussed for both types of perturbations. Finally, two quasi-elliptic dual-mode filters were designed, fabricated and measured to verify the proposed theory.  相似文献

A periodic stepped-impedance ring resonator (PSIRR) is proposed to design dual-mode bandpass filters with a miniaturized area and desirable upper stopband characteristics. Design parameters of a PSIRR include impedance ratio R of the hi-Z to low-Z sections, their lengths, and number of impedance steps 2N. The resonant characteristics of PSIRRs with various N and R values are investigated by both the transmission-line theory and electromagnetic simulation. Proper choice of the above parameters leads to an optimal reduction of circuit area and extension of upper rejection bandwidth. Two extra transmission zeros exist in the upper stopband and are tunable via changing the arm lengths of the line-to-ring coupling structure. Realized by the standard microstrip technology, the dual-mode PSIRR bandpass filter has not only the first spurious response at higher than 3.7/spl times/ the passband frequency, but also an area reduction of better than 60% against a conventional ring filter. Experimental results of several fabricated circuits validate the analysis and theoretical prediction.  相似文献

Compact bandpass filters are being developed using Mobius wire-loaded cavity resonators. Initial results on tuned filters indicate that excellent filter characteristics can be attained in devices that are significantly smaller than traditional wire-loaded cavity technologies. A novel quad-mode Mobius resonator is presented which occupies the same volume as a dual-mode Mobius resonator. A four-pole bandpass filter is demonstrated using a single quad-mode Mobius resonator. Precisely controlled dielectric loading of dual-mode Mobius wire resonators has been implemented to realize bandpass filters. Two-pole and four-pole bandpass filters are demonstrated using one and two dual-mode dielectric-loaded Mobius resonators, respectively  相似文献

This paper reports three multi-function filters each of which realizes at least three basic functions without any external passive elements. Depending on the circuit, from one to four operational transconductance amplifiers (OTAs), and two operational amplifiers (OPAMPs) are employed. All three circuits are transimpedance-mode circuits; one of them can also operate as a current-mode filter. Therefore this filter represents a dual-mode, multifunction filter. The presented theory is verified with macro models in simulation program with integrated circuit emphasis (SPICE) simulations and post layout simulations, which are carried out with parasitics extracted from the layouts of the filter chips.  相似文献

The progress of numerical techniques now permit us to analyze rigorously complex devices such as dual-mode cavity multipole filters or planar passive elements for coplanar monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMICs). In this paper, we describe a rigorous design of dielectric resonator (DR) filters applying the finite-element method (FEM). We first present a dual mode coupling technique which replaces classical DRs, coupling, and tuning screws, which are commonly used in dual-mode filters, by slotted DRs. Next, a new theoretical analysis based on the contribution to the dual-mode filter response of the first DR hybrid mode and of higher order modes is described. This analysis can be applied to any type of microwave dual-mode filter. It allows us to define a procedure which explains the presence and controls the position of the two transmission zeros in the filter responses. In this paper, this procedure has been applied to improve filtering performances of a dual-mode DR filter. Finally, a synthesis method is developed to rigorously design for the first time, a four- and an eight-pole slotted DR elliptic filters. A novel band-reject element for the design of inline waveguide pseudoelliptic band-reject filters is introduced. The element consists of an offset partial-height post in a rectangular waveguide in which the dominant TE10 mode is propagating. The location of the attenuation pole is primarily determined by the height of the post that generates it. The element allows the implementation of weak, as well as strong coupling coefficients that are encountered in asymmetric band-reject responses with broad stopbands. The coupling strength is controlled by the offset of the post with respect to the center of the main waveguide. The posts are separated by uniform sections of the main waveguide. An equivalent low-pass circuit based on the extracted pole technique is first used in a preliminary design. An improved equivalent low-pass circuit that includes a more accurate equivalent circuit of the band-reject element is then introduced. A synthesis method of the enhanced network is also presented. Filters based on the introduced element are designed, fabricated, and tested. Good agreement between measured and simulated results is achieved  相似文献

An efficient method for optimizing microwave filters based on dual-mode resonators has been developed. In this method, a prior knowledge of how the passband parameters depend on the resonators’ resonant frequencies and couplings is used. It is shown that the rules for the intelligence optimization of filters, previously formulated for single-mode resonators, can also be applied to dual-mode resonators. To this end, each dual-mode resonator of the filter should be put into correspondence with its proper pair of imaginary single-mode resonators whose coupled-oscillation frequencies coincide with the frequencies of the dual-mode resonator.  相似文献

A novel type of dual-mode microstrip bandpass filter using degenerate modes of a dual-mode microstrip square loop resonator with capacitively loaded open-loop arms is proposed. Such a dual-mode bandpass filter with a 0.75% bandwidth at the center frequency of 1.603 GHz is designed and fabricated to demonstrate the design of reduced-size microstrip filters. It is shown that the proposed filter has a size reduction of about 59% at the same center frequency, as compared with the dual-mode bandpass filters such as microstrip patch, cross-slotted patch, square loop and ring resonator filter.  相似文献

The synthesis method based on the analytical solution of a single nth-order filter transfer function and the generation of n+1 simple and realizable transfer functions implemented using lossless integrators and one additional constraint is applied to facilitate the development of new voltage-mode high-order operational transconductance amplifiers and capacitors (OTA-C) all-pass and band-reject filters. The presented nth-order all-pass and band-reject filters contain n+2, i.e., at least n fewer OTAs and enjoy lower component spread than the recently published filter structures in addition to achieving three criteria: all single-ended-input OTAs, all grounded capacitors, and the least number of component counts, simultaneously. Furthermore, two different types of the synthesized filter structures, equal capacitance and equal transconductance, are suggested for easier IC manufacture and simpler biasing architecture, respectively. H-Spice simulations, using 0.25-/spl mu/m process and /spl plusmn/1.25-V supply voltages, validate theoretical predictions.  相似文献

A synthesis procedure for a new configuration of four-pole dual-mode waveguide filters with distributed coupling is presented. In this configuration the dual-mode coupling is obtained by exploiting the well-known fact that the diagonal polarizations are coupled in an almost square waveguide. The obvious advantage of this type of structure is that the cross sections of all the discontinuities are rectangular, hence the global prediction of the filter is more accurate. The synthesis approach is based on a scattering matrix formulation where the dual-mode coupling is described in terms of a 2×2 propagation matrix. Universal design charts, which directly yield the scattering parameters of the various junctions, have been obtained. Comparisons with experimental results of a four-pole filter are also presented  相似文献

This paper discusses the physics behind the operation of dual-mode bandpass filters from a field theoretical point of view. It is argued that the two degenerate modes of the empty dual-mode cavity, commonly taken as the vertical and horizontal polarizations, become nonphysical when coupling and tuning elements are inserted. Instead, the original degenerate modes are rotated, or modified in a complex way, to generate two new modes whose characteristics depend on the coupling and tuning elements. It is shown that the tuning elements, as placed in existing dual-mode filter designs, act as both tuning and coupling elements. A working dual-mode filter can be designed with only “tuning” elements present. A physical representation of dual-mode filters in terms of the eigenresonances of the dual-mode cavities, with the tuning and coupling elements present, is introduced. Two fourth-order dual-mode rectangular cavity filters with the same response in the passband and its vicinity are also presented to demonstrate the similar role played by “tuning” and coupling elements in dual-mode cavities. The first filter uses only “tuning” elements, while the second is based only on “coupling” elements.   相似文献

A simple method to synthesise oscillator circuits employing only one unity-gain amplifier is presented. It is shown that any oscillator formed by one inverting infinite-gain ideal amplifier looped back by a perfect band-reject filter will automatically give rise, through a simple transformation, to an oscillator circuit employing only one unity-gain amplifier. An asymmetric defected ground structure (DGS) with respect to a microstrip line is proposed. Its unit cell consists of two square slots connected with a rectangular slot by meandered transverse slots. The simulated, measured and equivalent circuit responses have been presented. The unit DGS pattern under microstrip line produces wide rejection bandwidth and high sharpness factor. Its elliptic band-reject filter response is modelled by appropriate LC equivalent circuit. Two such DGS cells under a microstrip line produce 3-pole quasi-elliptic bandstop filter response, which shows deeper attenuation without appreciable change in pole frequencies in comparison to single cell structure. Unit DGS pattern under coupled gap microstrip lines produces band-accept filtering characteristics. The frequency characteristics show a quasi-elliptic highpass filtering characteristics with sharp lower transition knee. Accordingly, an LC equivalent circuit is proposed. A cascaded band-accept and band-reject filter is proposed for designing a wideband bandpass filter. The bandwidth and centre frequency of the bandpass filter can be varied by choosing different set of DGS dimensions.  相似文献
