Hot pressed dense SiC-(0, 10, 30 or 50 wt%)WC composites were subjected to erosion against SiC particles at 800 °C. Effects of WC content and angle of impingement (30°, 60° or 90°) on the erosion performance of composites were evaluated. Erosion rate ranged from 2.1 × 102 mm3/kg to 7.7 × 102 mm3/kg with varying WC content or angle of impingement. The erosion rate of the composites increased with increasing the impingement angle from 30° to 90°, and decreased with WC content up to 30 wt%. Minimum and maximum erosion wear rates were obtained for SiC-30 wt% WC composites at 30° and for SiC-50 wt% WC composites at normal impact, respectively. Grain fracture and pull-out were observed as major mechanisms of material removal for the composites. Decreased angle of impingement led to reduced grain fracture and pull-out, and hence reduction in material removal. Owing to increased fracture toughness with incorporation of WC particles, the composites showed less fracture and removal of WC particles up to 30 wt% reinforcement.  相似文献

In this study, we analyzed the high temperature tribological behavior of AlCrTiN coatings deposited on WC substrates by low cathodic arc technique. The coatings chemical composition, Al 31 at.%, Cr 16 at.%, Ti 7 at.% and N 46 at.%, and the bonding state were evaluated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The mechanical properties of the coatings were studied by scratch-test and nanohardness depth sensing indentation. The morphology of the coatings surface, ball scars, wear tracks and wear debris as well as the oxidized samples was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The structure was analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD). Wear testing was carried out using a high temperature tribometer (pin-on-disc) with alumina balls as counterparts. The evaluation of the friction coefficient with the number of cycles (sliding distance) was assessed at different temperatures and the wear rates of the coatings and balls were determined; the maximum testing temperature was 800 °C. The coating showed an excellent thermal stability and wear resistance. The friction reached a maximum at 500 °C and then decreased, whereas the wear rate was negligible up to 600 °C and increased significantly at higher temperatures.  相似文献

Microstructure evolutions of ZrB2–30 vol.% SiC composites, prepared by hot pressing at different processing temperatures (1700, 1850 and 2000 °C) for 30 min under 10 MPa, were investigated by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The microstructures of the fabricated composites were compared with and the effects of the processing temperature on the sintering process and densification behavior during the hot pressing were found. The amount and the orientation of dislocations which were indicated by TEM analysis in the sample hot pressed at 1700 °C showed that no plastic deformation and atomic diffusion occurred. But the presence of amorphous phases and rearrangement of particles are signs of the fact that liquid phase sintering and particle fragmentation/rearrangement is the main densification mechanism. On the other hand, in the sample hot pressed at 1850 °C, aggregation of dislocations behind the grain boundaries and the presence of twinnings addressed wide plastic deformations which were introduced as the main densification mechanism at 1850 °C. Finally in the sample hot pressed at 2000 °C, lower amounts of un-oriented dislocations and also some annealing twinnings were observed in TEM micrographs together with fractographical SEM analysis and showed that the atomic diffusion is the dominant densification mechanism of hot pressed ZrB2–30 vol.% SiC composite.  相似文献

Tungsten carbide (WC) particles have been in-situ synthesized through the reaction between tungsten particles and carbide particles by spark plasma sintering (SPS). The composites with different WC content were comparatively observed by the techniques of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM), X-ray diffraction, hardness and pin-to-disc abrasive wear test. The results showed that the formed WC particles were homogenously distributed in the iron matrix with the size of smaller than 25 μm. Additionally, with the increasing of the WC content, the hardness of composites, the microhardness of matrix and the wear resistance increased, but there was no change significantly between 32 vol% WC/Fe composites and 42 vol% WC/Fe composites. The composites possessed excellent wear resistance comparing the specific wear rate determined in the present work to the martensitic wear-resistant steel under the load of 80 N after a sliding distance of ~ 950 m. The specific wear rate of the martensitic wear-resistant steel was a factor of 24 and 48 times higher than WC/Fe composites, when the content of WC was 32 vol% and 42 vol% in WC/Fe composites, respectively. The main wear mechanism was synthetic of abrasion wear and oxidation wear. The wear performance of 32 vol% WC/Fe composites didn't appear to be much different from 42 vol% WC/Fe composites, due to the WC particles in the 42 vol% composites produced stress concentration easily, which could ultimately induce the creak initiation around WC particles in the subsurface (near wear surface) and propagation to wear surface promoting the breakup of surface film.  相似文献

This paper reports the friction and wear response of WC–10%Co(Cr/V) cemented carbide with different surface finishes, attained by grinding (G) and wire-EDM, respectively, during sliding experiments at 400 °C. For comparison, tests under the same conditions were carried out at 25 °C. The wear experiments were performed under a normal force of 14 N, which produced a Hertzian maximum pressure of 3.10 GPa, and a sliding speed of 0.3 m/s against WC–6%Co(Cr/V) balls of 6 mm diameter. At 25 °C the average values of the friction coefficients were 0.36 ± 0.04 and 0.39 ± 0.06 for the ground and wire-EDM surface finishes, respectively. The mechanical behavior of both systems at 25 °C was assessed by carrying out analytical calculations of the stress field created by a circular sliding contact under a spherical indenter, where the residual stresses were considered. The theoretical results are in agreement with the experimental data, indicating that the wire-EDM sample has a specific wear rate, which is approximately 3.1 times greater than that corresponding to the G sample at 25 °C. At 400 °C, an increase in the friction coefficients takes place up to values of 0.75 ± 0.1 and 0.71 ± 0.8, for the ground and wire-EDM surface finishes, respectively. The increase was associated to an adhesive mechanism, which is more pronounced for the G sample. However, for the wire-EDM sample this increase was more linked to a marked abrasive mechanism. The wear rates for both samples at 400 °C are similar to those obtained at 25 °C, which indicates that apparently the test temperature does not have an important effect on the wear rate. However, it is known that temperature influences considerably the residual stress nature. Therefore, these results were explained by taking into account the wear mechanisms between the tribopairs in view of the mechanical characteristics and the morphological features obtained from SEM coupled with EDS analysis.  相似文献

This study investigates how the partial replacement of Co with Al2O3 ceramic binder has an effect on the sintering behaviour, microstructure, and final mechanical properties of WC-Co cermets via spark plasma sintering. To examine this, three batches (WC-6 wt%Co, WC-3 wt%Co-3 wt%Al2O3, and WC-6 wt%Al2O3) were mixed through high energy ball mill, and sintering was carried out at temperatures of 1350 °C and 1600 °C. The results showed nearly full dense WC-Co cermets at different temperatures. It was shown that WC-6 wt%Al2O3, in comparison to reference WC-6 wt%Co cermet, not only led to the rise in sintering temperature from 1350 °C to 1600 °C, but also reduced its strength and toughness. But replacing some part of Co with alumina (WC-3 wt%Co-3 wt%Al2O3) exhibited the combination of high strength (1095 MPa), hardness (17.62 GPa), and fracture toughness (19.46 MPa·m1/2).  相似文献

In this study, the high temperature oxidation behavior of HVOF-sprayed WC–12Co and WC–10Co–4Cr coatings were investigated. To explore the oxidation mechanism, thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA) was applied for isothermal treatments in the range of 500–800 °C for 3 h. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to evaluate the structural changes and microstructural evolutions during oxidation tests. The TGA experiments showed negligible oxidation mass gains at 500 °C for both coatings. At higher temperatures, i.e. 700 and 800 °C, the oxidation mass gains of WC–12Co were found to be much higher than those for WC–10Co–4Cr coating, respectively. The higher oxidation resistance of WC–10Co–4Cr coating probably results from the formation of compact chromium oxide layers and higher MWO4 type tungstate (M: Co and/or Cr) to tungsten trioxide (WO3) ratios which provide lower porosity and consequently more efficient passivation effect against oxidation. The time dependent mass gain of WC–12Co coating obeys the linear law within temperature range of 600–800 °C with apparent oxidation activation energy of ~ 104 kJ/mol. As for the oxidation of WC–10Co–4Cr coating, a negligible deviation from linear law was observed possibly due to the presence of chromium oxide and higher tungstate to tungsten trioxide ratio which hinders the diffusion process through the scales compared with WC–12Co coating. The apparent activation energy for oxidation of the WC–10Co–4Cr coating was found to be ~ 121 kJ/mol.  相似文献

The sliding behaviors of two typical high-temperature alloys of GH2132 and GH605 against WC and SiC balls were investigated at environments from room temperature to 800 °C with a sliding speed of 50 to 125 m/min under a load of 10 to 20 N. The wear performances of high-temperature alloys, WC and SiC balls were rated and their mechanisms were discussed. The four sliding pairs exhibited the markedly different sliding behaviours, in which the GH2132/WC sliding pair had the maximum friction coefficient with 125 m/min under 10 N at room temperature. The variation trends of ball wear rates with the ambient temperature were at odds with those of friction coefficient. The higher friction coefficient did not always lead balls to suffer from the higher wear rate. The maximum worn depth approximated to 250 μm for the GH2132/WC sliding pair with higher friction coefficient. The GH605/WC sliding pair exhibited the lower friction coefficient and lower worn depth of plate. Whether at room temperature or high temperature, the GH605/SiC sliding pair significantly exhibited good wear resistance with a minor damage of ball and plate despite of its higher friction coefficient.  相似文献

Understanding of the load situation and consequently the lifetime of cutting tools made of WC–Co hard metal requires quantitative data for thermo-mechanical properties. For the elevated temperatures present in application, these data are currently rather rare. The present work does discuss elastic material properties up to 1100 °C and compressive yield strength up to 900 °C, both as a function of Co content. The fracture toughness was determined as a function of the WC grain size and Co content up to 800 °C. Young's modulus and yield strength decrease with increasing temperature. A significant rise in fracture toughness was observed at 800 °C with increasing Co content and decreasing WC grain size. A possible reason for this increase is an increase in the plastic zone size at elevated temperatures.  相似文献

Plasma immersion ion implantation (PIII) was used to implant nitrogen into Al at a temperature in the range of 320–520 °C. AlN phase was observed for temperatures above 450 °C, whereas no AIN detected by XRD diagnosis at temperatures below 380 °C. It was also observed that there was no effective increase in hardness of the material, but some wear resistance due to formation of AlN.  相似文献

The sintered polycrystalline diamond compacts (PDCs) were annealed at 200 °C, 300 °C, 400 °C, 500 °C, 600 °C, 700 °C, and 800 °C under vacuum environment. The friction and wear behaviors of the annealed PDCs sliding against Si3N4 balls were evaluated by a ball-on-disc tribometer in ambient atmosphere. The compositions, microstructures and surface morphologies of PDC discs and wear scars on Si3N4 balls were characterized by energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), Raman spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), respectively. The experimental results demonstrated that the steady friction coefficient decreased at the annealing temperature of 200 °C and increased with annealing temperature increasing. While, the wear rate of PDCs and Si3N4 balls increased at 200 °C, and sharply decreased from 300 to 800 °C. The surface morphologies and Raman spectra revealed that the variation law of friction coefficient curves at different annealing temperatures was attributed to carbonaceous transfer films formed on Si3N4 balls. The residual stress on PDC surface was reduced after the annealing treatment, thus fine diamond grains were easily extracted from PDC surface onto the contact area during the tribotest which led to the wear of PDC and abrasive wear for both counter parts. These results revealed that the friction and wear behaviors of PDC were significantly affected by the vacuum annealing temperature.  相似文献

In this study, two types of Ti(C0.7,N0.3)-based cermet cutting tool materials (Ti(C,N)–Mo–Ni–Co, named as TMNC, and Ti(C,N)–WC–Mo–Ni–Co–TaC–HfC, named as TWMNCTH) were fabricated by the hot pressed sintering process at different temperatures (from 1380 °C to 1500 °C) for different holding times (from 30 min to 60 min) in a vacuum atmosphere and at a compressive stress of 32 MPa. The polished surface and the fracture surface of the two types of cermets were observed by a scanning electron microscope (BSE/SEM) and energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS), and the relationships among sintering processes, mechanical properties and microstructure were discussed. The experimental results showed that the sintering temperature and holding time both had a great influence on the flexural strength and a small effect on the hardness and the fracture toughness of the two types of cermets. The two cermets both had the optimal comprehensive mechanical properties when they were sintered at 1400 °C for 30 min. The sintering temperature and holding time also had a great influence on the microstructure of the two cermets, and the grain sizes increased when the sintering temperature varied from 1400 °C to 1500 °C and the holding time varied from 30 min to 60 min. The properties and microstructure of the two cermets were also compared. The results indicated that the cermet TWMNCTH had a lower flexural strength, a similar value of fracture toughness, a higher hardness and a thicker rim in the microstructure.  相似文献

In this work, the optimal coating process (OCP) designed by Taguchi program for high velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) thermal spraying WC–CrC–Ni powder on Inconel 718 substrate (IN 718) is obtained by optimizing hardness (38 FMR oxygen flow rate, 53 FMR hydrogen flow rate, 25 g/min powder feed rate and 7 in. spray distance). Oxygen flow rate affects hardness mostly. The surface properties such as microstructure, crystalline phase, hardness, and porosity of WC–CrC–Ni coating have been investigated. The phase of coating has been changed during the OCP spraying because a portion of carbides, such as WC, Cr7C3, Ni3C decomposes to W2C, Cr, Ni and free carbon. Hardness (1150 ± 50 Hv) and porosity (1.2 ± 0.2%) of the OCP coating have been improved by optimization. The friction and wear behaviors of the WC–CrC–Ni coating, electrolytic hard chrome (EHC) plating and IN 718 have been studied comparatively. The lubrication due to free carbon and metal oxide debris results in a decrease of friction coefficients of the WC–CrC–Ni, compared to EHC and IN 718 at both 25 and 450 °C. It is concluded that HVOF WC–CrC–Ni coating performs more excellent anti-wear than others at both temperatures.  相似文献

TiAlN/VN multilayer coatings exhibit excellent dry sliding wear resistance and low friction coefficient, reported to be associated with the formation of self-lubricating V2O5. To investigate this hypothesis, dry sliding ball-on-disc wear tests of TiAlN/VN coatings on flat stainless steel substrates were undertaken against Al2O3 at 25 °C, 300 °C and 635 °C in air. The coating exhibited increased wear rate with temperature. The friction coefficient was 0.53 at 25 °C, which increased to 1.03 at 300 °C and decreased to 0.46 at 635 °C. Detailed investigation of the worn surfaces was undertaken using site-specific transmission electron microscopy (TEM) via focused ion beam (FIB) microscopy, along with Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and Raman spectroscopy. Microstructure and tribo-induced chemical reactions at these temperatures were correlated with the coating’s wear and friction behaviour. The friction behaviour at room temperature is attributed to the presence of a thin hydrated tribofilm and the presence of V2O5 at high temperature.  相似文献

The unlubricated friction and wear behaviors of Al2O3/TiC ceramic tool materials were evaluated in ambient air at temperature up to 800 °C by high temperature tribological tests. The friction coefficient and wear rates were measured. The microstructural changes and the wear surface features of the ceramics were examined by scanning electron microscopy. Results showed that the temperature had an important effect on the friction and wear behaviors of this Al2O3 based ceramic. The friction coefficient decreased with the increase of temperature, and the Al2O3/TiC ceramics exhibited the lowest friction coefficient in the case of 800 °C sliding operation. The wear rates increased with the increase of temperature. During sliding at temperature above 600 °C, oxidation of the TiC is to be expected, and the formation of lubricious oxide film on the wear track is beneficial to the reduction of friction coefficient. The wear mechanism of the composites at temperature less than 400 °C was primary abrasive wear, and the mechanisms of oxidative wear dominated in the case of 800 °C sliding operation.  相似文献

In TiCN–W–Cr–Ni cermets produced by liquid phase sintering melting occurs at lower temperatures as their Cr content increases. For low Cr additions (up to 4 wt.%) eutectic temperatures are close to those found in the TiC–WC–Ni system. For 8 wt.% Cr and above, temperatures are similar to those found in the Cr–Ni–C system. The precipitation of M7C3 carbides is observed to start at 8 wt.% Cr in samples sintered at 1425 °C for 1 h. This sets a limit for the Cr solubility in the binder phase of these cermets around 18 wt.%. The dissolution of WC and Cr3C2 particles starts at temperatures as low as 1150 °C, but that the homogenization of the binder phase is only achieved after melting. The carbonitride phase exhibits the typical precipitation of inner and outer rims onto Ti(C,N) cores. However, a fine precipitation of Ni-rich particles is found inside Ti(C,N) cores, likely related to coalescence phenomena.  相似文献

The oxidation behavior of hot-pressed Al2O3–TiC–Co composites prepared from cobalt-coated powders has been studied in air in the temperature range from 200 °C to 1000 °C for 25 h. The oxidation resistance of Al2O3–TiC–Co composites increases with the increase of sintering temperature at 800 °C and 1000 °C. The oxidation surfaces were studied by XRD and SEM. The oxidation kinetics of Al2O3–TiC–Co composites follows a rate that is faster than the parabolic-rate law at 800 °C and 1000 °C. The mechanism of oxidation has been analyzed using thermodynamic and kinetic considerations.  相似文献

The isothermal corrosion behavior between 1000 °C and 1190 °C of Inconel 690 and 693 in an iron phosphate glass melt containing 26 wt.% of a simulated Hanford low activity nuclear waste (LAW) was investigated. At least three distinct corrosion processes were recognized for both alloys over different temperature ranges. Inconel 690 and 693 both display the best corrosion resistance at an intermediate temperature range (Inconel 690: 1050–1100 °C; Inconel 693: 1050–1165 °C), and more severe corrosion at both lower and higher temperatures. In general, Inconel 693 is less reactive over a wider temperature range than Inconel 690.  相似文献

The effect of the temperature on the compressive stress–strain behavior of Al/SiC nanoscale multilayers was studied by means of micropillar compression tests at 23 °C and 100 °C. The multilayers (composed of alternating layers of 60 nm in thickness of nanocrystalline Al and amorphous SiC) showed a very large hardening rate at 23 °C, which led to a flow stress of 3.1 ± 0.2 GPa at 8% strain. However, the flow stress (and the hardening rate) was reduced by 50% at 100 °C. Plastic deformation of the Al layers was the dominant deformation mechanism at both temperatures, but the Al layers were extruded out of the micropillar at 100 °C, while Al plastic flow was constrained by the SiC elastic layers at 23 °C. Finite element simulations of the micropillar compression test indicated the role played by different factors (flow stress of Al, interface strength and friction coefficient) on the mechanical behavior and were able to rationalize the differences in the stress–strain curves between 23 °C and 100 °C.  相似文献

This article proposed a novel method to disperse WC/ZrO2/VC composite powders so as to attain a perfectly uniform suspension. Besides using conventional dispersing means such as adding dispersant (PEG, polyethylene glycol), mechanical stirring, ultrasonic vibration and ball milling, the temperature adjustment of dispersing-medium distilled water had also been employed. The agglomerating and dispersing mechanisms were analyzed by means of TEM observation of WC/ZrO2/VC composite powders dispersed under five different temperatures, with the results showing that the most uniform dispersion was obtained under the temperature of 100 °C based on the criterion for conglomeration number per unit. The dispersed WC/ZrO2/VC composite powders were dried and consequently sintered by hot-press sintering in nitrogen atmosphere at 1580 °C with pressure of 30 MPa. The testing results of mechanical properties such as relative density, hardness, bending strength and fracture toughness show that the optimal properties are obtained by using the WC/ZrO2/VC composite powders dispersed under 100 °C. The surface crack morphologies of sintered samples are investigated and the results show that crack extended in a more tortuous path for the sample sintered from well-dispersed composite powders.  相似文献
