Primary amine functionalized polystyrenes were prepared in quantitative yields by atom transfer radical polymerization using the adduct of 1‐(bromoethyl)benzene with 1‐(4‐aminophenyl)‐1‐phenylethylene as initiator for styrene polymerization in the presence of a copper(I) bromide/N,N,N′,N′,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine catalyst system. The polymerizations proceeded via a controlled free radical polymerization process to afford quantitative yields of the corresponding primary amine functionalized polystyrenes with predictable molecular weights (Mn = 2 × 103 to 10 × 103 g mol?1), relatively narrow molecular weight distributions (Mw/Mn = 1.03–1.49), well defined chain‐end functionalities and initiator efficiencies as high as 0.92. The polymerization process was monitored by gas chromatographic analysis. The primary amine functionalized polymers were characterized by thin layer chromatography, size exclusion chromatography, potentiometry and spectroscopy. Experimental results are consistent with quantitative functionalization via the 1,1‐diphenylethylene derivative. Polymerization kinetic measurements show that the polymerization reaction follows first order rate kinetics with respect to monomer consumption and the number average molecular weight increases linearly with monomer conversion. © 2003 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

The synthesis of polymethylmethacrylate (pMMA) and polystyrene (pSt) were realized with newly synthesized initiator, 3,5‐bis(perfluorobenzyloxy)benzyl 2‐bromopropanoate (FBr) in the presence of copper bromide (CuBr) and N,N,N′,N″,N″‐pentamethyl‐diethylenetriamine (PMDETA) by using atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The perfluorinated aromatic group containing initiator was prepared by esterification of the (3,5‐bis[(perfluorobenzyl)oxy]‐phenyl alcohol. Both initiator and polymers were characterized by 1H‐NMR spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography, differential scanning calorimetry, and thermogravimetric analysis. The ATRP was supported by an increase in the molecular weight of the forming polymers and also by their monomodal molecular weight distribution. Contact angle measurements of water and ethylene glycol on films of synthesized polymers indicated higher degree of hydrophobicity than that of pure pMMA and pure pSt. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The quantitative syntheses of α‐bis and α,ω‐tetrakis tertiary diamine functionalized polymers by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) methods are described. A tertiary diamine functionalized 1,1‐diphenylethylene derivative, 1,1‐bis[(4‐dimethylamino)phenyl]ethylene (1), was evaluated as a unimolecular tertiary diamine functionalized initiator precursor as well as a functionalizing agent in ATRP reactions. The ATRP of styrene, initiated by a new tertiary diamine functionalized initiator adduct (2), affords the corresponding α‐bis(4‐dimethylaminophenyl) functionalized polystyrene (3). The tertiary diamine functionalized initiator adduct (2) was prepared in situ by the reaction of (1‐bromoethyl)benzene with 1,1‐bis[(4‐dimethylamino)phenyl]ethylene (1) in the presence of a copper (I) bromide/2,2′‐bipyridyl catalyst system. The ATRP of styrene proceeded via a controlled free radical polymerization process to afford quantitative yields of the corresponding α‐bis(4‐dimethylaminophenyl) functionalized polystyrene derivative (3) with predictable number‐average molecular weight (Mn) and narrow molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) in a high initiator efficiency reaction. The polymerization process was monitored by gas chromatography analysis. Quantitative yields of α,ω‐tetrakis(4‐dimethylaminophenyl) functionalized polystyrene (4) were obtained by a new post ATRP chain end modification reaction of α‐bis(4‐dimethylaminophenyl) functionalized polystyrene (3) with excess 1,1‐bis[(4‐dimethylamino)phenyl]ethylene (1). The tertiary diamine functionalized initiator precursor 1,1‐bis[(4‐dimethylamino)phenyl]ethylene (1) and the different tertiary amine functionalized polymers were characterized by chromatography, spectroscopy and non‐aqueous titration measurements. Diblock copolymers of poly(L ‐lactide)‐block‐poly(methyl methacrylate) (PLLA‐b‐PMMA) were synthesized through a sequential two‐step strategy, which combines ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), using a bifunctional initiator, 2,2,2‐trichloroethanol. The trichloro‐terminated poly(L ‐lactide) (PLLA‐Cl) with high molecular weight (Mn,GPC = 1–12 × 104 g/mol) was presynthesized through bulk ROP of L ‐lactide (L ‐LA), initiated by the hydroxyl group of the double‐headed initiator, with tin(II) octoate (Sn(Oct)2) as catalyst. The second segment of the block copolymer was synthesized by the ATRP of methyl methacrylate (MMA), with PLLA‐Cl as macroinitiator and CuCl/N,N,N′,N″,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine (PMDETA) as catalyst, and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) was chosen as reaction medium due to the poor solubility of the macroinitiator in conventional solvents at the reaction temperature. The trichloroethoxyl terminal group of the macroinitiator was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and 1H‐NMR spectroscopy. The comprehensive results from GPC, FTIR, 1H‐NMR analysis indicate that diblock copolymers PLLA‐b‐PMMA (Mn,GPC = 5–13 × 104 g/mol) with desired molecular composition were obtained by changing the molar ratio of monomer/initiator. DSC, XRD, and TG analyses establish that the crystallization of copolymers is inhibited with the introduction of PMMA segment, which will be beneficial to ameliorating the brittleness, and furthermore, to improving the thermal performance. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Well defined block‐graft copolymers of cyclohexanone‐formaldehyde resin (CFR) and methylmethacrylate (MMA) were prepared via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). In the first step, cyclohexanone formaldehyde resin (CFR) containing hydroxyl groups were modified with 2‐bromopropionyl bromide. Resulting multifunctional macroinitiator was used in the ATRP of MMA using copper bromide (CuBr) and N,N,N′,N″,N″‐pentamethyl‐diethylenetriamine (PMDETA) as catalyst system at 90°C. The chemical composition and structure of the copolymers were characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance (1H‐NMR) spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and molecular weight measurement. Molecular weight distributions of the CFR graft copolymers were measured by gel permeation chromatography (GPC). Mn values up to 19,000 associated with narrow molecular weight distributions (polydispersity index (PDI) < 1.6) were obtained with conversions up to 49%. Coating properties of synthesized graft copolymers such as adhesion and gloss values were measured. They exhibited good adhesion properties on Plexiglas substrate. The thermal behaviors of all polymers were conducted using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 1,2‐Butadiene is shown to be a chain terminating/transferring agent in butyllithium‐initiated diene polymerization. The influence of 1,2‐butadiene on the anionic copolymerization of 1,3‐butadiene and styrene is investigated using n‐butyllithium as initiator and tetrahydrofuran or N,N,N′,N′‐tetramethylethylenediamine as polar additive. A decrease of copolymerization rate is observed on the addition of 1,2‐butadiene. On introducing 1,2‐butadiene, the number average molecular weight (Mn ) decreases and the molecular weight distribution broadens. The vinyl content of copolymer increases slightly with an increase of 1,2‐butadiene. During the copolymerization, 1,2‐butadiene in the presence of a high ratio of polar additives to n‐butyllithium greatly decreases the copolymerization rate, resulting in a lower value of Mn and a narrower molecular weight distribution than that found for a low ratio of polar additives to n‐butyllithium. This evolution can be explained by the base‐catalyzed isomerization of 1,2‐butadiene to form 1‐butylene in the presence of polar additives. With an increasing amount of 1,2‐butadiene, the vulcanized rubber exhibits an increased rolling resistance and a reduced wet skid resistance owing to the decrease of coupling efficiency. These results further indicate the activity of alkynyllithium derivatives produced by the reaction of alkyllithium and 1‐butyne is less than that of the alkyllithium. Low‐molecular‐weight (Mn) polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) homopolymers were successfully prepared using a perfluorodiacyl initiator, bis(perfluoro‐2‐n‐propoxypropionyl) peroxide, in supercritical carbon dioxide. Solid‐state 19F NMR and Fourier transform infrared spectral analyses show that perfluoroalkyl end‐groups are present in the resultant PTFEs. Thermogravimetric analysis suggests all polymers with various Mn have outstanding thermal stability. Differential scanning calorimetry measurements indicate that both melting and crystallization transitions of PTFE shift to lower temperatures when Mn decreases, because shorter polymer chains can move more easily at lower temperatures. Investigation of polymerization kinetics suggests that the rate law for the polymerization has kinetic orders of 0.5 and 1.0 with respect to initiator and monomer concentrations, indicating that termination occurs through coupling of propagating chains. Melt fusion crystallinity of as‐polymerized PTFE can be as high as 86%, and the polymerization rate does not seem to be obviously affected by the total interphase area of the polymer phase, implying polymerization mainly occurs in the carbon dioxide‐rich fluid phase; meanwhile, the low viscosity and high diffusivity of supercritical carbon dioxide mean that propagating chains have more opportunities to meet, thus yielding low‐Mn PTFEs. Bis[(4 ‐β‐(2‐bromopropanoate)ethoxy)phenyl]phenylphosphine oxide was used for the first time as the initiator of atom transfer radical polymerization of styrene and methyl methacrylate in the presence of CuBr/N, N,N′, N″, N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine as catalyst/ligand and dimethyl sulfoxide as solvent. The presence of phosphine oxide linkages in the backbone gives the polymers special properties; low Tg, high char yield, and decreases the oxygen induction time value. A linear increase of number average molecular weight (Mn) versus monomer conversion was observed, and the molecular weight distribution was relatively narrow (Mw/Mn = 1.1–1.3). FTIR, 1HNMR, gel permeation chromatography, ultraviolet spectroscopies were used for the characterization of the related polymers. The thermal properties of these polymers were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci., 2013  相似文献

A new monomer, exo‐3,6‐epoxy‐1,2,3,6‐tetrahydrophthalimidocaproic acid (ETCA), was prepared by reaction of maleimidocaproic acid and furan. The homopolymer of ETCA and its copolymers with acrylic acid (AA) or with vinyl acetate (VAc) were obtained by photopolymerizations using 2,2‐dimethoxy‐2‐phenylacetophenone as an initiator at 25 °C. The synthesized ETCA and its polymers were identified by FTIR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopies. The apparent average molecular weights and polydispersity indices determined by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) were as follows: Mn = 9600 g mol?1, Mw = 9800 g mol?1, Mw/Mn = 1.1 for poly(ETCA); Mn = 14 300 g mol?1, Mw = 16 200 g mol?1, Mw/Mn = 1.2 for poly(ETCA‐co‐AA); Mn = 17 900 g mol?1, Mw = 18 300 g mol?1, Mw/Mn = 1.1 for poly(ETCA‐co‐VAc). The in vitro cytotoxicity of the synthesized compounds against mouse mammary carcinoma and human histiocytic lymphoma cancer cell lines decreased in the following order: 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU) ≥ ETCA > polymers. The in vivo antitumour activity of the polymers against Balb/C mice bearing sarcoma 180 tumour cells was greater than that of 5‐FU at all doses tested. © 2001 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Multiwalled carbon nanotubes‐graft‐polystyrene (MWNTs‐g‐PS) was synthesized by atom transfer nitroxide radical coupling chemistry. MWNTs with 2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidine‐1‐oxy (MWNTs‐TEMPO) groups was prepared first by esterification of 4‐hydroxy (HO)‐TEMPO and carboxylic acid group on the surface of MWNTs (MWNTs‐COOH); PS with bromide end group (PS‐Br) were then obtained by atom transfer radical polymerization using ethyl 2‐bromoisobutyrate as initiator and CuBr/N,N,N′,N″,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine as catalyst. The MWNTs‐TEMPO was mixed with PS‐Br and heated to 90°C in the presence of CuBr/PMDETA to form MWNTs‐g‐PS. The product was characterized by FTIR, NMR, TGA, and TEM. TEM indicates that the MWNTs are enveloped by the polymer molecules. The content of grafted polymers is 46.7% by TGA measurements when the number‐average molecular weight (Mn) of PS‐Br is 10,200 g/mol. The as‐prepared nanocomposites exhibit relatively good dispersibility in solvents such as CH2Cl2, THF, and toluene. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2009  相似文献

Photo‐induced atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of methyl methacrylate (MMA) was achieved in poly(ethylene glycol)‐400 with nanosized α‐Fe2O3 as photoinitiator. Well‐defined poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) was synthesized in conjunction with ethyl 2‐bromoisobutyrate (EBiB) as ATRP initiator and FeCl3·6H2O/Triphenylphosphine (PPh3) as complex catalyst. The photo‐induced polymerization of MMA proceeded in a controlled/living fashion. The polymerization followed first‐order kinetics. The obtained PMMA had moderately controlled number‐average molecular weights in accordance with the theoretical number‐average molecular weights, as well as narrow molecular weight distributions (Mw/Mn). In addition, the polymerization could be well controlled by periodic light‐on–off processes. The resulting PMMA was characterized by 1H nuclear magnetic resonance and gel permeation chromatography. The brominated PMMA was used further as macroinitiator in the chain‐extension with MMA to verify the living nature of photo‐induced ATRP of MMA. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Poly ε‐caprolactone‐polystyrene block‐copolymers (PCL‐b‐PSt) were synthesized using a modified titanium catalyst as the dual initiator. Alcoholysis of Ti(OPr)4 by 4‐hydroxy 2,2,6,6 tetramethyl piperidinyl‐1‐oxyl (HO‐TEMPO) gave a bifunctional initiator Ti(OTEMPO)4. Poly ε‐caprolactone prepolymer end‐capped with the nitroxide group was first prepared by ring opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone with this initiator at high conversion. The nitroxide‐end‐capped structure and molar mass (Mn) of the polymers were demonstrated by typical UV absorption band. This analytical technique indicates a near‐quantitative nitroxide functionality and a Mn in good agreement with size exclusion chromatography (SEC) ones. This polyester prepolymer was used to further initiate the radical polymerization with styrene and reach the block copolymers (PCL‐b‐PSt). All the prepolymers and block copolymers were characterized by SEC and NMR spectroscopy. Additionally, the preparation of star polymers bearing two kinds of arms (PCL and PSt) was envisaged and a preliminary result was given. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A hexa‐substituted ethane thermal iniferter, diethyl‐2,3‐dicyano‐2,3‐di(p‐tolyl) succinate (DCDTS), was firstly used as the initiator in the reverse atom transfer radical polymerization (RATRP) of acrylonitrile. FeCl3 coordinated by isophthalic acid (IA) was used as the catalyst in this system. The polymerization in N,N‐dimethylformamide not only shows the best control of molecular weight and its distribution but also provides rather rapid reaction rate with the ratio of [AN] : [DCDTS] : [FeCl3] : [IA] at 500 : 1 : 2 : 4. The polymers obtained were end‐functionalized by chlorine atom, and they were used as macroinitiators to proceed the chain extension polymerization in the presence of FeCl2/IA catalyst system via a conventional ATRP process and polyacrylonitrile obtained was with Mn = 39,260, PDI = 1.25. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of γ‐(2,3‐dihydroxypropoxy)propyl‐terminated poly(dimethylsiloxane) (DHT‐PDMS) samples with different molecular weights were prepared through the acid‐catalyzed equilibrium copolymerization of octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane and 1,3‐bis[γ‐(2,3‐dihydroxypropoxy)propyl]tetramethyldisiloxane. The intrinsic viscosity in toluene ([η]toluene) and the number‐average molecular weight (Mn) were determined with an Ubbelohde viscometer and 1H‐NMR spectra, respectively. In this way, the relationship between [η]toluene and Mn was established. For 2.0 × 104 < Mn < 4.0 × 104, [η]toluene,25°C was 1.874Mn 0.323. The solution behavior of DHT‐PDMS was also investigated. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 94: 1759–1762, 2004  相似文献

Reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization of styrene was carried out in the presence of a novel RAFT reagent, bearing 1,3‐benzodioxole group, benzo [1,3]dioxole‐5‐carbodithioic acid benzo [1,3]dioxol‐5‐ylmethyl ester (BDCB), to prepare end‐functionalized polystyrene. The polymerization results showed that RAFT polymerization of styrene could be well controlled. Number–average molecular weight (Mn(GPC)) increased linearly with monomer conversion, and molecular weight distributions were narrow (Mw/Mn < 1.4). The successful reaction of chain extension and analysis of 1H NMR spectra confirmed the existence of the functional 1,3‐benzodioxole group at the chain‐end of polystyrene. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Copolymers of styrene and n‐butyl acrylate were prepared by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) using CuBr/N,N,N′,N′,N″‐pentamethyl‐diethylenetriamine as catalyst and Methyl 2‐bromopropionate as initiator. The polydispersity of the copolymers is quite low (1.1–1.3). 13C {1H} NMR spectra of these copolymers show that the methylene and methine signals of the main chain are compositional sensitive and highly overlapped. Even the distortionless enhancement by polarization transfer (DEPT) was not able to assign the complex and overlapping signals. Assignments of the various resonance signals were done with the help of heteronuclear single quantum coherence (HSQC), total correlation spectroscopy (TOCSY), and heteronuclear multiple bond correlation (HMBC) experiments. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Aminopropyl‐terminated poly(dimethylsiloxane) (ATPS) with different molecular weights was prepared by base‐catalyzed equilibration of octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane and 1,3‐bis(3‐aminopropyl)‐1,1,3,3‐tetramethyldisiloxane with different ratios. Their number‐average molecular weights (Mn) were determined by end–group analysis, and intrinsic viscosity ([η]) in toluene was measured with a Ubbelohde viscometer. A relationship between Mn and [η] was obtained for ATPS. For 1.0 × 104 < Mn < 6.0 × 104, it was in accord with [η]toluene,25°C = 5.26 × 10?2 Mn0.587. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. In this work, well‐defined homopolymers of methyl methacrylate (PMMA) and styrene (PSt) were prepared via single‐electron‐transfer living radical polymerization using CCl4 as initiator and Fe(0)/N, N, N′,N′‐tetramethyl‐1,2‐ethanediamine as catalyst. The polymerization was conducted at 25 °C in N,N‐dimethylformamide in the presence of air. It proceeded in a ‘living’ manner, as indicated by the first‐order kinetics behavior, and the linear increase of the number‐average molecular weight (Mn, GPC) with conversion was close to the theoretical Mn, theory. Solvent and additives have a profound effect on the polymerization. In addition, the PMMA and PSt obtained remained of low dispersity. The chain‐end functionality of the obtained homopolymer of PMMA was characterized by proton nuclear magnetic resonance. A block copolymer of P(MMA‐block‐St) was achieved by using the obtained PMMA as macroinitiator. The living characteristics were further demonstrated by chain extension experiments. Polymerizations of methyl methacrylate (MMA) monomer initiated by a novel Ni(II)α‐benzoinoxime complex have been achieved under homogeneous conditions in the 25–60°C temperature range. The activity for polymerization increases with reaction temperature and by carrying out the polymerization in solution of low‐polarity solvents without any induction time. The obtained polymers have weight‐average molecular weights about 105 and slight broad polydispersity indexes (2.2 ≤ Mw/Mn ≤ 3.3). Dependence of rate constants polymerization and decomposition of initiator (kapp and kd, respectively) on temperature was investigated and activation parameters were computed from Arrhenius plot. 1H‐NMR analysis of PMMA revealed a syndio‐rich atactic microstructure in agreement with conventional radical process. Radical scavenger TEMPO effect together with microstructure and molecular weight distributions data supported that the polymerization proceed via free radical mechanism. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The condensation of a mixture of dimethyl carbonate and phthalate derivatives with 1,4‐butanediol (BD), catalyzed by sodium alkoxide, generated high‐molecular weight poly(1,4‐butylene carbonate‐co‐aromatic ester)s with molecular weights (Mn) of 50–120 kDa. The subsequent addition of polyols [BD, glycerol propoxylate, 1,1,1‐tris(hydroxymethyl)ethane, or pentaerythritol] chopped these high‐molecular weight polymers to afford macrodiols or macropolyols with facile control of their molecular weights (Mn, 2000–3000 Da) and unique chain topological compositions. Macropolyols prepared by chopping poly(1,4‐butylene carbonate‐co‐terephthalate) were waxy in nature, whereas those containing isophthalate and phthalate units were oily. The macropolyols synthesized by this chopping method may have potential applications in the polyurethane industry. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2016 , 133, 43754.  相似文献
