In this study, synthesis, characterization, partial hydrolysis, and salt formation of poly(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate)‐co‐poly(4‐vinyl pyridine), (poly(HEMA)‐co‐poly‐(4‐VP)) copolymers were investigated. The copolymers were synthesized by free radical polymerization using K2S2O8 as an initiator. By varying the monomer/initiator ratio, chain lengths of the copolymers were changed. The copolymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography (GPC), viscosity measurements, 1H and 13C NMR and FTIR spectroscopies, elemental analysis, and end group analysis methods. The copolymers were partially hydrolyzed by p‐toluene sulfonic acid monohydrate (PTSA·H2O) and washed with LiOH(aq) solution to prepare electrorheological (ER) active ionomers, poly(Li‐HEMA)‐co‐poly(4‐VP). © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Highly random copolymers of 2,2‐dimethyltrimethylene carbonate (DTC) and ε‐caprolactone (CL) were synthesized by single component rare‐earth tris(4‐tert‐butylphenolate)s [Ln(OTBP)3] for the first time. The influences of reaction conditions on the copolymerization initiated by La(OTBP)3 have been examined in detail. The monomer reactivity ratios of DTC and CL determined by the Fineman–Ross method are 4.0 for rDTC and 0.27 for rCL. The microstructure of the copolymer was determined by the analyses of the diads DTC–DTC, DTC–CL, CL–DTC and CL–CL of the 1H NMR spectra. The high degree of randomness of the chain structure was further confirmed by the 13C NMR spectra and differential scanning calorimetry. The thermal properties of the copolymers as a function of composition are reported. The mechanism investigated by 1H NMR data indicates that the rare‐earth tris(4‐tert‐butylphenolate)s initiate the ring‐opening copolymerization of DTC and CL with acyl‐oxygen bond cleavages of the monomers. 4‐(4′‐Methoxyphenyl)urazole (MPU) was prepared from 4‐methoxybenzoic acid in five steps. The reaction of monomer MPU with n‐isopropylisocyanate was performed at room temperature in N,N‐dimethylformamide solution, and the resulting bis‐urea derivative was obtained in high yield and was finally used as a model for polymerization reaction. The step‐growth polymerization reactions of monomer MPU with hexamethylene diioscyanate, isophorone diioscyanate, and toluene‐2,4‐diioscyanate were performed in N,N‐dimethylacetamide solution in the presence of pyridine as a catalyst. The resulting novel polyureas have an inherent viscosity (ηinh) in a range of 0.07–0.21 dL/g in DMF and sulfuric acid at 25°C. These polyureas were characterized by IR, 1H‐NMR, elemental analysis, and TGA. Some physical properties and structural characterization of these novel polyureas are reported. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 85: 1141–1146, 2002  相似文献

4‐Acetamidophenyl acrylate (APA) was synthesized and characterized by IR, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopies. Homo‐ and copolymers of APA with acrylonitrile (AN) and N‐vinyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (NVP) were prepared by a free radical polymerization. All the copolymer compositions have been determined by 1H NMR technique, and the reactivity ratios of the monomer pairs have been evaluated using the linearization methods Fineman–Ross, Kelen–Tudos, and extended Kelen–Tudos. Nonlinear error‐in‐variable model (EVM) method was used to compare the reactivity ratios. The reactivity ratios for copoly(APA–AN) system were APA(r1) = 0.70 and AN(r2) = 0.333, and for copoly(APA–NVP) system the values were APA(r1) = 4.99 and NVP(r2) = 0.019. Thermal stability and molecular weights of the copolymers are reported. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 99: 1919–1927, 2006  相似文献

A novel class of wholly aromatic poly(ester‐imide)s, having a biphenylene pendant group, with inherent viscosities of 0.32–0.49 dL g?1 was prepared by the diphenylchlorophosphate‐activated direct polyesterification of the preformed imide‐ring‐containing diacid, 4‐p‐biphenyl‐2,6‐bis(4‐trimellitimidophenyl)pyridine (1) with various aromatic dihydroxy compounds in the presence of pyridine and lithium chloride. A reference diacid, 2,6‐bis(trimellitimido)pyridine (2) without a biphenylene pendant group and two phenylene rings in the backbone, was also synthesized for comparison purposes. At first, with due attention to structural similarity and to compare the characterization data, a model compound (3) was synthesized by the reaction of compound 1 with two mole equivalents of phenol. Moreover, the optimum condition of polymerization reactions was obtained via a study of the model compound synthesis. All of the resulting polymers were characterized by Fourier transform infrared and 1H NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The ultraviolet λmax values of the poly(ester‐imide)s were also determined. All of the resulting polymers exhibited excellent solubility in common organic solvents, such as pyridine, chloroform, tetrahydrofuran, and m‐cresol, as well as in polar organic solvents, such as N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone, N,N‐dimethylacetamide, N,N‐dimethylformamide, and dimethyl sulfoxide. The crystalline nature of the polymers obtained was evaluated by means of wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction. The resulting poly(ester‐imide)s showed nearly an amorphous nature, except poly(ester‐imide) derived from 4,4′‐dihydroxy biphenyl. The glass transition temperatures (Tg) of the polymers determined by differential scanning calorimetry thermograms were in the range 298–342 °C. The 10% weight loss temperatures (T10%) from thermogravimetric analysis curves were found to be in the range 433–471 °C in nitrogen. Films of the polymers were also prepared by casting the solutions. The two poly(silyl ester)s containing 2,2‐bis(p‐dimethylsiloxy‐phenyl)propane units in the polymer backbones have been prepared via polycondensation reaction of di‐tert‐butyl adipate and di‐tert‐butyl fumarate with 2,2‐bis(p‐chloro dimethylsiloxy‐phenyl)propane to give tert‐butyl chloride as the condensate. The polymerizations were performed under nitrogen at 110°C for 24 h without addition of solvents and catalysts to obtain the poly(silyl ester)s with weight average molecular weights typically ranging from 5000 to 10,000 g/mol. Characterization of the poly(silyl ester)s included 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopies, infrared spectroscopy, ultraviolet spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), gel permeation chromatography, and Ubbelohde viscometer. The glass transition temperatures (Tg) of the obtained polymers were above zero because of the introducing 2,2‐bis(p‐dimethylsiloxy‐phenyl)propane units in the polymer backbones. The TGA/DTG results showed that the obtained poly(silyl ester)s were stable up to 180°C and the residual weight percent at 800°C were 18 and 9%, respectively. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new methacrylic monomer, 4‐(2‐thiazolylazo)phenylmethacrylate (TPMA) was synthesized. Copolymerization of the monomer with methyl methacrylate (MMA) was carried out by free radical polymerization in THF solution at 70 ± 0.5°C, using azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as an initiator. The monomer TPMA and the copolymer poly(TPMA‐co‐MMA) were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and elemental analysis methods. The polydispersity index of the copolymer was determined using gel permeation chromatography (GPC). Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) of the copolymer performed in nitrogen revealed that the copolymer was stable to 270°C. The glass transition temperature (Tg) of the copolymer was higher than that of PMMA. The copolymer with a pendent aromatic heterocyclic group can be dissolved in common organic solvents and shows a good film‐forming ability. Both the monomer TPMA and the copolymer poly (TPMA‐co‐MMA) have bright colors: orange and yellow, respectively. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 103: 2152–2157, 2007  相似文献

4‐(4′‐Aminophenyl)‐1,2,4‐triazolidine‐3,5‐dione was reacted with 1 mol of acetyl chloride in dry N,N‐dimethylacetamide (DMAc) at ?15°C and 4‐(4′‐acetamidophenyl)‐1,2,4‐triazolidine‐3,5‐dione [4‐(4′‐acetanilido)‐1,2,4‐triazolidine‐3,5‐dione] (APTD) was obtained in high yield. The reaction of the APTD monomer with excess n‐isopropylisocyanate was performed at room temperature in DMAc solution. The resulting bis‐urea derivative was obtained in high yield and was finally used as a model for the polymerization reaction. The step‐growth polymerization reactions of monomer APTD with hexamethylene diisocyanate, isophorone diisocyanate, and tolylene‐2,4‐diisocyanate were performed under microwave irradiation and solution polymerization in the presence of pyridine, triethylamine, or dibutyltin dilaurate as a catalyst. Polycondensation proceeded rapidly, compared with conventional solution polycondensation; it was almost completed within 8 min. The resulting novel polyureas had an inherent viscosity in the range of 0.07–0.17 dL/g in dimethylformamide or sulfuric acid at 25°C. These polyureas were characterized by IR, 1H‐NMR, elemental analysis, and thermogravimetric analysis. The physical properties and structural characterization of these novel polyureas are reported. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 91: 2103–2113, 2004  相似文献

A new monomer of tetraimide‐dicarboxylic acid (IV) was synthesized by starting from ring‐opening addition of 4,4′‐oxydiphthalic anhydride, trimellitic anhydride, and 1,4‐bis(4‐amino‐2‐trifluoromethylphenoxy)benzene at a 1:2:2 molar ratio in N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (NMP). From this new monomer, a series of novel organosoluble poly(amide‐imide‐imide)s with inherent viscosities of 0.7–0.96 dL/g were prepared by triphenyl phosphite activated polycondensation from the tetraimide‐diacid with various aromatic diamines. All synthesized polymers were readily soluble in a variety of organic solvents such as NMP and N,N‐dimethylacetamide, and most of them were soluble even in less polar m‐cresol and pyridine. These polymers afforded tough, transparent, and flexible films with tensile strengths ranging from 99 to 125 MPa, elongations at break from 12 to 19%, and initial moduli from 1.6 to 2.4 GPa. The thermal properties and stability were also good with glass‐transition temperatures of 236–276°C and thermogravimetric analysis 10 wt % loss temperatures of 504–559°C in nitrogen and 499–544°C in air. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. New diimide–dicarboxylic acids, ie 4‐phenyl‐2,6‐bis(4‐trimellitimidophenyl)pyridine and 4‐p‐biphenyl‐2,6‐bis‐(4‐trimellitimidophenyl)pyridine, were synthesized by the condensation reaction of 4‐phenyl‐2,6‐bis(4‐aminophenyl)pyridine and 4‐p‐biphenyl‐2,6‐bis(4‐aminophenyl)pyridine with trimellitic anhydride in glacial acetic acid or dimethylformamide. The monomers were fully characterized by FT‐IR and NMR spectroscopies, and elemental analyses. A series of novel poly(amide–imide)s with inherent viscosities of 0.68–0.87 dl g?1 was prepared from the two diimide–diacids with various aromatic diamines by direct polycondensation. The poly(amide–imide)s were characterized by FT‐IR and NMR spectroscopies. The λmax data for the resulting poly(amide–imide)s were in the range of 260–292 nm. These polymers exhibited good solubilities in polar aprotic solvents. The 10 % weight loss temperatures are above 485 °C under a nitrogen atmosphere. 4‐(4‐dimethylaminophenyl)‐1,2,4‐triazolidine‐3,5‐dione ( DAPTD ) was prepared from 4‐dimethylaminobenzoic acid in five steps. The compound DAPTD was reacted with excess acetyl chloride in N,N‐dimethylacetamide (DMAc) solution and gave 1,2‐bisacetyl‐4‐[4‐(dimethylaminophenyl)]‐1,2,4‐triazolidine‐3,5‐dione as a model compound. Solution polycondensation reactions of monomer with succinyl chloride (SucC), suberoyl chloride (SubC), and sebacoyl chloride (SebC) were performed under conventional solution polymerization techniques in the presence of triethylamine and pyridine as a catalyst in N‐methylpyrrolidone (NMP) and led to the formation of novel aliphatic polyamides. These novel polyamides have inherent viscosities in the range of 0.09–0.21 dL/g in N,N‐dimethylformamide (DMF) at 25°C. To investigate the CF3 group affecting the coloration and solubility of polyimides (PI), a novel fluorinated diamine 1,1‐bis[4‐(4‐amino‐2‐ trifluoromethylphenoxy)phenyl]‐1‐phenylethane (2) was prepared from 1,1‐ bis(4‐hydrophenyl)‐1‐phenylethan and 2‐chloro‐5‐nitrobenzotrifluoride. A series of light‐colored and soluble PI 5 were synthesized from 2 and various aromatic dianhydrides 3a–f using a standard two‐stage process with thermal 5a– f(H) and chemical 5a–f(C) imidization of poly(amic acid). The 5 series had inherent viscosities ranging from 0.55 to 0.98 dL/g. Most of 5a–f(H) were soluble in amide‐type solvents, such as N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (NMP), N,N‐ dimethylacetamide (DMAc), and N,N‐dimethylformamide (DMF), and even soluble in less polar solvents, such as m‐Cresol, Py, Dioxane, THF, and CH2Cl2, and the 5(C) series was soluble in all solvents. The GPC data of the 5a–f(C) indicated that the Mn and Mw values were in the range of 5.5–8.7 × 104 and 8.5–10.6 × 104, respectively, and the polydispersity index (PDI) Mw /Mn values were 1.2–1.5. The PI 5 series had excellent mechanical properties. The glass transition temperatures of the 5 series were in the range of 232–276°C, and the 10% weight loss temperatures were at 505–548 °C in nitrogen and 508–532 °C in air, respectively. They left more than 56% char yield at 800°C in nitrogen. These films had cutoff wavelengths between 356.5–411.5 nm, the b* values ranged from 5.0–71.1, the dielectric constants, were 3.11–3.43 (1MHz) and the moisture absorptions were in the range of 011–0.40%. Comparing 5 containing the analogous PI 6 series based on 1,1‐bis[4‐(4‐aminophenoxy)phenyl]‐1‐ phenylethane (BAPPE), the 5 series with the CF3 group showed lower color intensity, dielectric constants, and better solubility. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 4‐[4′‐(2‐Hydroxy‐1‐naphthylazo)phenyl]‐1,2,4‐triazolidine‐3,5‐dione ( HNAPTD ) ( 1 ) has been reacted with excess amount of n‐propylisocyanate in DMF (N,N‐dimethylformamide) solution at room temperature. The reaction proceeded with high yield, and involved reaction of both N? H of the urazole group. The resulting bis‐urea derivative 2 was characterized by IR, 1H‐NMR, elemental analysis, UV‐Vis spectra, and it was finally used as a model compound for the polymerization reaction. Solution polycondensation reactions of monomer 1 with Hexamethylene diisocyanate ( HMDI ) and isophorone diisocyanate ( IPDI ) were performed in DMF in the presence of pyridine as a catalyst and lead to the formation of novel aliphatic azo‐containing polyurea dyes, which are soluble in polar solvents. The polymerization reaction with tolylene‐2,4‐diisocyanate ( TDI ) gave novel aromatic polyurea dye, which is insoluble in most organic solvents. These novel polyureas have inherent viscosities in a range of 0.15–0.22 g dL?1 in DMF at 25°C. Poly(silyl ester)s were synthesized by a new route via the condensation of di‐tert‐butyl ester of dicarboxylic acid with dichlorosilane by the elimination of tert‐butyl chloride as a driving force. Three new poly(silyl ester)s with molecular weights typically ranging from 2000 to 5000 amu were produced by the condensation of di‐tert‐butyl adipate with 1,5‐dichloro‐1,1,5,5‐tetramethyl‐3,3‐diphenyl trisiloxane and di‐tert‐butyl fumarate with 1,5‐dichloro‐1,1,5,5‐tetramethyl‐3,3‐diphenyl trisiloxane or 1,3‐dichlorotetramethyl disiloxane. Each polymer was characterized with infrared, 1H‐NMR, and 13C‐NMR spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography, differential scanning calorimetry, and thermogravimetric analysis. This new approach showed several advantages. First, it did not require a catalyst or solvent. Second, the tert‐butyl chloride byproduct was volatile and was easily eliminated. Third, there was no reaction between the growing poly(silyl ester)s and the condensation byproduct, tert‐butyl chloride. Fourth, the monomers could be readily purified. Finally, the polymerization could be performed at relatively low temperatures and in a short time. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 100: 1378–1384, 2006  相似文献

A novel monomer, bis[4‐(4‐fluorobenzoyl)phenyl]phenylphosphine oxide, was synthesized through the reaction of bis(4‐chloroformylphenyl) phenyl phosphine oxide with fluorobenzene. Three poly(ether ether ketone ketone)s derived from bis[4‐(4‐fluorobenzoyl)phenyl]phenylphosphine oxide and different aromatic bisphenols were prepared by aromatic nucleophilic substitution reactions. The resulting polymers had inherent viscosities in the range of 0.55–0.73 dL/g. The structures of the poly(ether ether ketone ketone)s were characterized with Fourier transform infrared and 1H‐NMR. Thermal analysis indicated that the glass‐transition temperatures of the poly(ether ether ketone ketone)s were higher than 200°C, and the 5% weight loss temperatures in nitrogen were higher than 463°C. All the polymers showed excellent solubility in polar solvents such as N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone, dimethylformamide, and dimethylacetamide and could also be dissolved in chlorinated methane. The polymers afforded transparent and flexible films by solvent casting. Organic phosphorous moieties also imparted good flame‐retardancy to the polymers. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A water‐in‐oil microemulsion, water‐in‐cyclohexane stabilized by poly(ethylene glycol) tert‐octylphenyl, was developed to prepare poly(methacrylic acid) (PMAA) particles. Up to 100% conversion of the amphiphilic monomer, methacrylic acid (MAA), which could not be converted to the polymer efficiently in a dioctylsulfosuccinate sodium salt/toluene microemulsion, was achieved. The viscosity‐average molecular weight of the PMAA prepared was 1.45 × 105 g/mol. The effects of some polymerization parameters, including the reaction temperature and the concentrations of the initiator and the monomer, on the polymerization of MAA were investigated. The results showed that the polymerization rate of MAA was slower than that of acrylamide in the microemulsions reported in the literature. The degree of conversion increased with the initiator concentration, reaction temperature, and monomer concentration. However, the stable microemulsions became turbid during the polymerization when the reaction temperature was at 70°C or at a high monomer concentration (40 wt %) The synthesized PMAA particles were spherical and had diameters in the range of ~50 nm. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polymerization of acrylonitrile was carried out using yttrium tris(2,6‐di‐tert‐butyl 4‐methyl‐phenolate) (Y(OAr)3) as single component catalyst for the first time. The effects of concentrations of the monomer and catalyst, kinds of rare earth element and solvent, as well as temperature and polymerization time were investigated. The overall activation energy of polymerization in n‐hexane and THF mixture is 18.3 kJ mol?1. Polyacrylonitriles (PANs) obtained by using Y(OAr)3 in n‐hexane and THF mixture at 50 °C are predominantly atactic, while yellow PANs obtained in DMF under the same conditions have a syndiotactic‐rich configuration (>50%), and their highly branched and/or cyclized structures have also been found. © 2002 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献
