The bisupported Ziegler–Natta catalyst system SiO2/MgCl2 (ethoxide type)/TiCl4/di‐n‐butyl phthalate/triethylaluminum (TEA)/dimethoxy methyl cyclohexyl silane (DMMCHS) was prepared. TEA and di‐n‐butyl phthalate were used as a cocatalyst and an internal donor, respectively. DMMCHS was used as an external donor. The slurry polymerization of propylene was studied with the catalyst system in n‐heptane from 45 to 70°C. The effects of the TEA and H2 concentrations, temperature, and monomer pressure on the polymerization were investigated. The optimum productivity was obtained at [Al]/[DMMCHS]/[Ti] = 61.7:6.2:1 (mol/mol/mol). The highest activity of the catalyst was obtained at 60°C. Increasing the H2 concentration to 100 mL/L increased the productivity of the catalyst, but a further increase in H2 reduced the activity of the catalyst. Increasing the propylene pressure from 1 to 7 bar significantly increased the polymer yield. The isotacticity index (II) decreased with increasing TEA, but the H2 concentration, temperature, and monomer pressure did not have a significant effect on the II value. The viscosity‐average molecular weight decreased with increasing temperature and with the addition of H2. Three catalysts with different Mg/Si molar ratios were studied under the optimum conditions. The catalyst with a Mg/Si molar ratio of approximately 0.93 showed the highest activity. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 89: 1177–1181, 2003  相似文献

Ultra‐high‐molecular‐weight polyethylene (PE) with viscosity‐average molecular weight (Mv) of 3.1 × 106 to 5.2 × 106 was prepared with a heterogeneous Ziegler–Natta MgCl2 (ethoxide type)/TiCl4/triethylaluminum catalyst system under controlled conditions. The optimum activity of the catalyst was obtained at a [Al]/[Ti] molar ratio of 61 : 1 and a polymerization temperature of 60°C, whereas the activity of the catalyst increased with monomer pressure and decreased with hydrogen concentration. The titanium content of the catalyst was 2.4 wt %. The rate/time profile of the catalyst was a decay type with a short acceleration period. Mv of the PE obtained decreased with increasing hydrogen concentration and polymerization temperature. The effect of stirrer speeds from 100 to 400 rpm did not so much affect the catalyst activity; however, dramatic effects were observed on the morphology of the polymer particles obtained. A stirrer speed of 200 rpm produced PE with a uniform globulelike morphological growth on the polymer particles. The particle size distributions of the polymer samples were determined and were between 14 and 67 μm. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2010  相似文献

Heterogeneous Ziegler–Natta catalyst of MgCl2 (ethoxide type)/TiCl4/diether was prepared. 2,2‐Diisobutyl‐1,3‐dimethoxy propane (DiBDMP), diether, was used as internal donor. Slurry polymerization of propylene was carried out using the catalyst in dry heptane while triethylaluminium (TEA) was used as co‐catalyst. The co‐catalyst effects, such as catalyst molar ratio, polymerization temperature, H2 pressure, external donor, triisobutylaluminium (TiBA) and monomer pressure, on the activity of the catalyst and isotacticity index (II) of the polymers obtained were studied. Rate of polymerization versus polymerization time is of a decay type with no acceleration period. There are an optimum Al/Ti molar ratio and temperature to obtain the highest activity of the catalyst. The maximum activity was obtained at 60 °C. Increasing the monomer pressure to 1 010 000 Pa linearly increased the activity of the catalyst. Addition of hydrogen to 151 500 Pa pressure increased activity of the catalyst from 2.25 to 5.45 kg polypropylene (PP) (g cat)?1 h?1 using 505 000 Pa pressure of monomer. The II decreased with increasing Al/Ti ratio, monomer pressure, hydrogen pressure and increased with increasing temperature to 60 °C, following with decrease as the temperature increases. Productivity of 11.55 kg (PP) (g cat)?1 h?1 was obtained at 1 010 000 Pa pressure of monomer and temperature of 60 °C. Addition of methyl p‐toluate (MPT) and dimethoxymethyl cyclohexyl silane (DMMCHS) as external donors decreased the activity of the catalyst sharply, while the II slightly increased. Some studies of the catalyst structure and morphology of the polymer were carried out using FTIR, X‐ray fluorescence, scanning electron microscopy and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller techniques. Investigation of propene polymerization by a modified stopped‐flow technique using TiCl4/ethylbenzoate(EB)/MgCl2 Ziegler–Natta catalyst with or without pretreating the catalyst with triethylaluminium (TEA) within an ultra‐short period (ca 1 s) was conducted to gain new understanding of the nature of active sites related to TEA in the early stage of polymerization. When the catalyst was pretreated by a cocatalyst, deactivation behaviour was clearly observed, even within an extremely short pretreatment period. In contrast, without pretreatment, the deactivation of active sites can be neglected within the polymerization period indicating that the activated Ti species might be protected from deactivation by TEA when monomer is present in the system. A plausible guard effect on the active sites by coordinating monomer and growing polymer chains in the initial stage of polymerization is proposed to account for this phenomenon. Grignard reagent PhMgCl was added during the preparation of the catalyst system MgCl2/di-n-butyl phthalate (DNBP)/TiCl4—AlEt3/diphenyl dimethoxyl silane (DPDMS) to improve its performance. It was found that PhMgCl could enhance both the activity of the catalyst and the isotacticity of the products, but decreased the Ti content of the catalysts under the same preparation conditions. The polymerization kinetics showed that PhMgCl accelerates the decay in the same time that it increased the initial and final polymerization rates. By means of UV-vis spectroscopy, electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy, and the Ti content determination of the catalysts, the multiple roles of PhMgCl were disclosed: reduction of Ti4+ to Ti3+, association with MgCl2 to replace part of TiCl4 in aspecific active sites, and complexing with the original active sites to form new active sites. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The MgCl2/SiO2 complex support was prepared by spray drying using alcoholic suspension, which contained MgCl2 and SiO2. The complex support reacted with TiCl4 and di‐n‐butyl phthalate, giving a catalyst for propylene polymerization. The catalyst was spherical and porous with high specific surface area. TEA was used as a cocatalyst, and four kinds of alkoxysilane were used as external donors. The bulk polymerization of propylene was studied with the catalyst system. The effect of the reaction conditions and external donor on the polymerization were investigated. The results showed that the catalyst had high activity, high stereospecificity, and sensitive hydrogen responsibility. Polypropylene has good grain morphology because of duplicating the morphology of the catalyst. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 98: 1296–1299, 2005  相似文献

The microstructure of the isotactic polypropylene obtained with various MgCl2‐supported catalyst systems at high polymerization temperature of 70–100°C is investigated by discussing the intrinsic relation between the different types of active centers and the polymerization temperatures via gel permeation chromatography, temperature rising elution fractionation, and 13C NMR. For the MgCl2/TiCl4/di‐n‐butyl phathalate‐AlEt3/external donor and MgCl2/TiCl4/2,2‐diisobutyl‐1,3‐dimethoxypropane‐AlEt3 catalyst systems, the differences in the isotactic productivity of polymers obtained at different polymerization temperatures mainly result from the variation of both the activity of the different isospecific active centers and the stability constants of the complex of catalyst/donor. The reaction rate of high isotactic active centers reaches maximum at 85–90°C, and this effect contributes to both the highest isotacticity and the narrowest molecular weight distribution. For the MgCl2/TiCl4/phthalate ester‐AlEt3 catalyst system, the isotacticity of polypropylene remains approximately constant in the temperature range of experiments, which could be ascribed to elution of phthalate ester after the activation. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. MgCl2/TiCl4/diether is a fifth‐generation Ziegler–Natta catalyst for the commercial polymerization of propylene. The outstanding features of this catalyst are the high activity and high isotacticity for propylene polymerization without using an external electron donor. In this study, we explored the copolymerization of propylene and 1‐octene with MgCl2/TiCl4/diether catalyst. It was found that MgCl2/TiCl4/diether catalyst showed higher polymerization activity and led to greater 1‐octene content incorporation, compared with a fourth‐generation Ziegler–Natta catalyst (MgCl2/TiCl4/diester). With an increase in 1‐octene incorporation in polypropylene chains, the melting temperature, glass transition temperature and crystallinity of the copolymers decreased distinctly. The microstructures of the copolymers were characterized using 13C NMR spectroscopy, and the copolymer compositions and number‐average sequence lengths were calculated from the dyad concentration and distribution. This result is very important for the in‐reactor polyolefin alloying process, especially for the case of a single catalyst and two‐step (or two‐reactor) process. Summary The influence of various cocatalysts on the activity and stereospecificity of a supported magnesium–titanium catalyst, generated by in situ reduction of titanium (IV) chloride using a Grignard reagent (MgCl2/TiCl3) or prepared by the recrystallization method (MgCl2/2M2P/ED/TiCl4, 2M2P= 2-methyl-2-pentanol, ED= dibutyl phthalate or ethyl benzoate), in the 1-hexene polymerization was investigated. The MgCl2/TiCl3 catalyst showed the highest activity but the lowest stereospecificity in the 1-hexene polymerization with all investigated cocatalysts. The MgCl2/2M2P/ED/TiCl4 catalyst with dibutyl phthalate as an internal electron donor was characterized by the highest stereospecificity and led to the polymers with high molecular weight. All catalysts showed the highest activity and stereospecificity when triisobutylaluminium was used as a cocatalyst. The addition of a small amount of ethyl benzoate as an external electron donor ([Al]/[ED] 10:1) led to considerable improvement of the stereospecificity of the MgCl2/TiCl3 catalyst in comparison with the catalysts prepared by the recrystallization method.  相似文献

Spherical MgCl2·nEtOH was prepared by adducting ethanol to MgCl2 using melt quenching method. Effect of molar ratio of [EtOH]/[MgCl2] = 2.8–3.05 on the morphology and particle size of the MgCl2·nEtOH were studied. The best adduct of spherical morphology was obtained when 2.9 mol ethanol to 1 mol MgCl2 was used. An emulsion of dissolved MgCl2 in ethanol was prepared in a reactor containing silicon oil. Stirrer speed of the emulsion and its transfer rate to quenching section that work at ?10 to ?40°C are affected by the particle size of the adduct particle. The adducted ethanol was partially removed with controlled heat primary to catalyst preparation (support). Treatment of the support with excess TiCl4 increased its surface area from 13.1 to 184.4 m2/g. Heterogeneous Ziegler‐Natta catalyst system of MgCl2 (spherical)/TiCl4 was prepared using the spherical support. Scanning electron microscopy studies of adduct, support, and catalyst obtained shown spherical particles, however, the polyethylene particles obtained have no regular morphology. The behavior indicates harsh conditions used for catalyst preparation, prepolymerization, and polymerization method used. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Heterogeneous Ziegler–Natta TiCl4 catalyst using MgCl2 and SiO2 as supports was prepared under controlled conditions. Mg(OEt)2 was used as a starting material and was expected to convert to active MgCl2 during catalyst preparation. Due to the high surface area and good morphological control, SiO2 was chosen as well. Slurry copolymerization of ethylene and propylene (EPM) was carried out in dry n‐heptane by using the catalyst system SiO2/MgCl2/TiCl4/EB/TiBA or TEA/MPT/H2 at temperatures of 40–70°C, different molar ratios of alkyl aluminum : MPT : Ti, hydrogen concentrations, and relative and total monomers pressure. Titanium content of the catalyst was 2.96% and surface area of the catalyst was 78 m2/g. Triisobutyl aluminum (TiBA) and triethyl aluminum (TEA) were used as cocatalysts, while ethyl benzoate (EB) and methyl p‐toluate (MPT) were used as internal and external donors, respectively. H2 was used as a chain‐transfer agent. Good‐quality ethylene propylene rubber (EPR) of rubber was obtained at the ratio of [TiBA] : [MPT] : [Ti] = 320 : 16 : 1 and polymerization temperature was 60°C. When TiBA was used as a cocatalyst, a higher and more rubberlike copolymer was obtained. For both of the cocatalysts, an optimum ratio of Al/Ti was obtained relative to the catalyst productivity. Ethylene content of the copolymer obtained increased with increasing TiBA concentration, while inverse results were obtained by using TEA. Addition of H2 increased the reactivity of the catalyst. The highest product was obtained when 150 mL H2/L solvent was used. Increasing temperature from 40 to 70°C decreased the productivity of the catalyst, while irregular behavior was observed on ethylene content. Relative pressure of PP/PE = 1.4 : 1 and total pressure of 1 atm was the best condition for the copolymerization. Polymers with ethylene contents of 25–84% were obtained. Increasing ethylene content of EPR decreased Tg of the polymer obtained to a limiting value. Viscosity‐average molecular weight (Mv) decreased with increasing temperature and TiBA and H2 concentration. However, increasing the polymerization time increased the Mv. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 93: 2597–2605, 2004  相似文献

Polymerization of propylene was carried out by using a MgCl2–EtOH–TiCl4–ID–TEA–ED catalyst system in n‐heptane, where ID (internal donor) was an organic diester, ED (external donor) was a silane compound, and TEA (triethyl aluminum) was the activator. The influences of temperature, pressure, time, hydrogen, and the molar ratios of Al/Ti and ED/Ti on polymer isotacticity and catalyst activity were studied by solubility in boiling n‐heptane and measuring the polymer produced, respectively. The morphology of the polymers was evaluated through scanning electron microscopy and particle size distribution. The rheological properties of the poly(propylene) were determined by the melt flow index. It was found that the catalyst showed good morphology and high activity and also the produced polymers were characterized by high isotacticity and globulelike shapes. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polymerization of propylene was carried out by using MgCl2.EtOH.TiCl4.DIBP.TEA.cHMDMS catalyst system in n‐heptane, where MgCl2, EtOH, TiCl4, DIBP (diisobutyl phthalate), TEA (triethyl aluminum), and cHMDMS (cyclohexyl methyl dimethoxy silane) were support, ethanol for alcoholation, catalyst, external donor, cocatalyst (activator), and internal donor, respectively. The catalyst activity and polymer isotacticity were studied by measuring the produced polymer and its solubility in boiling n‐heptane, respectively. The molecular weight and molecular weight distribution of the polymers were evaluated by gel permeation chromatography. Hydrogen was used for controlling the molecular weight. For producing the bimodal polypropylene, the polymerization was carried out in two steps (i.e., in the presence and absence of hydrogen). It was found that the catalyst showed high activity and stereoselectivity, on the other hand, bimodal polymer could simply be produced in two‐step polymerization by using MgCl2.EtOH.TiCl4.DIBP.TEA.cHMDMS catalyst system. Meanwhile, the effect of the step of the hydrogen adding on propylene polymerization was investigated. It was shown that the addition of hydrogen in the second step was more suitable. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 101: 1456–1462, 2006  相似文献

Soluble poly[styrene‐co‐(acrylic acid)] (PSA) modified by magnesium compounds was used to support TiCl4. For ethylene polymerization, four catalysts were synthesized, namely PSA/TiCl4, PSA/MgCl2/TiCl4, PSA/(n‐Bu)MgCl/TiCl4, and PSA/(n‐Bu)2Mg/TiCl4. The catalysts were characterized by a set of complementary techniques including X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy, X‐ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy, and element analysis. Synthesis mechanisms of polymer‐supported TiCl4 catalysts were proposed according to their chemical environments and physical structures. The binding energy of Ti 2p in PSA/TiCl4 was extremely low as TiCl4 attracted excessive electrons from ? COOH groups. Furthermore, the chain structure of PSA was destroyed because of intensive reactions taking place in PSA/TiCl4. With addition of (n‐Bu)MgCl or (n‐Bu)2Mg, ? COOH became ? COOMg‐ which then reacted with TiCl4 in synthesis of PSA/(n‐Bu)MgCl/TiCl4 and PSA/(n‐Bu)2Mg/TiCl4. Although MgCl2 coordinated with ? COOH first, TiCl4 would substitute MgCl2 to coordinate with ? COOH in PSA/MgCl2/TiCl4. Due to the different synthesis mechanisms, the four polymer‐supported catalysts correspondingly showed various particle morphologies. Furthermore, the polymer‐supported catalyst activity was enhanced by magnesium compounds in the following order: MgCl2 > (n‐Bu)MgCl > (n‐Bu)2Mg > no modifier. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polymerization of propylene was performed using MgCl2. EtOH.TiCl4.ID.TEA.ED catalyst system in hexane, where internal donor (ID) was an organic diester and external donor (ED) was a silane compound and also triethyl aluminum (TEA) as activator. A new method called isothermal/nonisothermal method (INM), a combination of isothermal and nonisothermal methods, was applied to produce the spherical polymer particles. The effects of the INM method and prepolymerization temperature on the final polymer morphology, Mw, and catalyst activity were also investigated. The morphology of the polymers was evaluated through scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images. GPC results were used for molecular weight (Mw) evaluation. It was found that the polymers had a better morphology when they were prepared using INM method. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2009  相似文献

Polymerization of propylene was carried out by using MgCl2-supported TiCl4 catalyst in conjunction with triethylaluminium (TEA) as cocatalyst. The effect of polymerization temperature on polymerization of propylene was investigated. The catalyst activity was influenced by the polymerization temperature significantly and the maximum activity of the catalyst was obtained at 40 °C. With increasing the polymerization temperature, the molecular weight of polypropylene (PP) drastically decreased, while the polydispersity index (PDI) increased. The effect of the two-stepwise polymerization procedure on the molecular weight and molecular weight distribution of PP was studied and the broad PDI of PP was obtained. It was also found that the PDI of PP could be controlled for propylene polymerization through regulation of polymerization temperature. Among the whole experimental cases, the M w of PP was controlled from 14.5 × 104 to 75.2 × 104 g/mol and the PDI could be controlled from 4.7 to 10.2.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Stereo‐regulated polymerization of vinyl ethers (VEs) assumes significance because of its elegance and the resultant unique polymer properties. Although several Lewis acid catalysts polymerize VEs with good control of molecular weight, achieving stereo‐regularity is quite challenging. There are literature reports of a few catalyst systems capable of producing highly isotactic poly(vinyl ether) (PVE) only at lower temperatures with the polymer becoming atactic with an increase in reaction temperature. Hence innovating new catalyst systems which can produce highly stereo‐regular PVEs with high molecular weight at ambient temperature is quite challenging. RESULTS: We used two different titanium pre‐catalysts (1‐TiCl2 and 2‐TiCl2) for the polymerization of VEs. These pre‐catalysts in combination with methylaluminoxane (MAO)/borate polymerized VEs in higher conversions. Highly isotactic poly(n‐butylvinyl ether) (PBVE; 75% dyad isotactic ratio) was obtained with 1‐TiCl2/MAO at ambient temperature. CONCLUSION: We synthesized unimodal and highly isotactic PBVE with molecular weights of the order of 105 g mol?1 using the non‐metallocene‐type single‐site catalyst system 1‐TiCl2/MAO even at ambient temperature. The symmetry around the metal centre in the pre‐catalyst and the polymerization temperature played a major role in controlling the stereo‐regularization of the olefin inserted. BACKGROUND: Kinetic and morphological aspects of slurry propylene polymerization using a MgCl2‐supported Ziegler–Natta catalyst synthesized from a Mg(OEt)2 precursor are investigated in comparison with a ball‐milled Ziegler–Natta catalyst. RESULTS: The two types of catalyst show completely different polymerization profiles: mild activation and long‐standing activity with good replication of the catalyst particles for the Mg(OEt)2‐based catalyst, and rapid activation and deactivation with severe fragmentation of the catalyst particles for the ball‐milled catalyst. The observed differences are discussed in relation to spatial distribution of TiCl4 on the outermost part and inside of the catalyst particles. CONCLUSION: The Mg(OEt)2‐based Ziegler–Natta catalyst is believed to show highly stable polymerization activity and good replication because of the uniform titanium distribution all over the catalyst particles. Hybrid titanium catalysts supported on silica/poly(styrene‐co‐acrylic acid) (SiO2/PSA) core‐shell carrier were prepared and studied. The resulting catalysts were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, laser scattering particle analyzer and scanning electronic microscope (SEM). The hybrid catalyst (TiCl3/MgCl2/THF/SiO2·TiCl4/MgCl2/PSA) showed core‐shell structure and the thickness of the PSA layer in the two different hybrid catalysts was 2.0 μm and 5.0 μm, respectively. The activities of the hybrid catalysts were comparable to the conventional titanium‐based Ziegler‐Natta catalyst (TiCl3/MgCl2/THF/SiO2). The hybrid catalysts showed lower initial polymerization rate and longer polymerization life time compared with TiCl3/MgCl2/THF/SiO2. The activities of the hybrid catalysts were enhanced firstly and then decreased with increasing P/P. Higher molecular weight and broader molecular weight distribution (MWD) of polyethylene produced by the core‐shell hybrid catalysts were obtained. Particularly, the hybrid catalyst with a PSA layer of 5.0 μm obtained the longest polymerization life time with the highest activity (2071 kg PE mol?1 Ti h?1) and the resulting polyethylene had the broadest MWD (polydispersity index = 11.5) under our experimental conditions. The morphology of the polyethylene particles produced by the hybrid catalysts was spherical, but with irregular subparticles due to the influence of PSA layer. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polyethylene (PE)/montmorillonite (MMT) nanocomposites were prepared by in situ coordination polymerization using a MMT/MgCl2/TiCl4 catalyst activated by Al(Et)3. The catalyst was prepared by first diffusing MgCl2 into the swollen MMT layers, followed by loading TiCl4 on the inner/outer layer surfaces of MMT where MgCl2 was already deposited. The intercalation of MMT layers by MgCl2 and TiCl4 was demonstrated by the enlarged interlayer spacing determined by WAXD. The nanoscale dispersion of MMT layers in the polyethylene matrix was characterized by WAXD and TEM. As a consequence, the crystallinity of the nanocomposite decreased sharply, whereas the tensile strength was significantly improved compared to that of virgin polyethylene of comparable molecular weight. The confinement of the nanodispersed MMT layers to molecular chain and the strong interaction between the nanoscale MMT layers and the resin matrix were thought to account for the decrease of crystallinity and the remarkable enhancement of strength. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
