Approximately 100 therapists attended the PT/OT Casting Workshop at the twenty-ninth Annual Meeting of the American Burn Association in New York City, N.Y., on March 20, 1997. The workshop consisted of four groups: two demonstrating hand/wrist casting and two demonstrating casting of the foot/ankle. Participants had the opportunity to attend one upper extremity group and one lower extremity group lasting approximately 50 minutes each. Instructors provided a demonstration of a casting procedure while addressing general guidelines, indications, contraindications, and precautions related to casting each area. Thorough handouts were provided, and each participant had the opportunity to apply two casts. The following article is a compilation of the four handouts and their bibliographies. 相似文献

The control of the metallurgy of steels is now highly developed. This is in contrast to the casting techniques for steels. Although continuous casting is generally conducted well, current ingot casting techniques are poor, unnecessarily introducing masses of oxides. For some steel compositions, double oxide films, bifilms, are entrained. This mechanism, occurring naturally during pouring, but till now generally overlooked, appears to be capable of explaining most of the features of steel defects in all their forms. For most Ni alloys and some steels it appears capable of generating a dense population of cracks, greatly impairing subsequent mechanical working and even final properties. In other steels the effects are much less severe. The techniques to avoid this damage to liquid steels and Ni alloys are described, including contact pouring, and naturally pressurized filling system designs. An ultimate system is counter gravity casting. For remelting processes, the risks of unreliability because of cracks intrinsic to VIM and VAR are discussed for both shop floor production and laboratory research. The potential crack‐free properties of ESR when correctly made are recommended. Even so, remelting processes might constitute an unnecessary luxury if steels and Ni alloys were cast to avoid the entrainment of oxides. 相似文献

Extensive experimental studies were conducted to quantify the effect of different parameters that can affect the heat transfer from the metal to the mold during the steady-state phase of DC casting. In the first part previously published, the experimental technique was established and results were reported for the effect of gas type (atmosphere within the mold) and the gap between the metal and the mold. The results showed the significant effect of gas thermal conductivity and the metal-mold gap on the mold wall heat transfer coefficient. In this second publication on heat transfer in the mold wall region of a DC casting mold, the results from the effect of casting temperature, gas flow rate, casting alloy, mold material, and the mold insert material on the mold wall heat transfer coefficient are described. The experiments reported in the current paper show that these additional factors tested do not affect the heat flux through the mold wall to the same extent as the gap size or the gas type. The heat transfer coefficient changes by less than 5 pct when casting temperature is changed by ±25 K, less than 15 pct when the gas flow rate within the metal-mold gap flows at up to 3 LPM, and approximately 30 pct when the mold material is changed from stainless steel to AA601 to copper. Similar results were obtained when different insert materials were used. These results are explained with the help of an electrical analogy of heat transfer and are consistent with the heat transfer theory. 相似文献

A three‐dimensional viscoelastic‐plastic thermal‐mechanical coupled finite element model was based on the basis of the secondary development of commercial software (MSC, Marc software, USA) to simulation the effect of casting speed on slab broadening in the secondary cooling zone. The results show that the ratio of ultimate broadening increased with increasing casting speed for various steel grades, but the change in broadening lagged that in casting speed. When the casting speeds were 1.0 m/min, 1.1 m/min, and 1.2 m/min for Q235 steel, the maximum ratios of ultimate broadening were 1.52%, 1.59%, and 1.81%, respectively, and the average ratios of ultimate broadening at the exit of the caster were 1.00%, 1.27%, and 1.48%, respectively; for SPHC steel, the maximum ratios of ultimate broadening were 1.34%, 1.44%, and 1.69%, respectively, and the average ratios of ultimate broadening at the exit of the caster were 0.64%, 0.76%, and 0.95%, respectively. The simulation results were verified by measurements on an SMS‐Demag continuous caster of Maanshan Iron and Steel Co. Ltd.; the measurement results agree with the simulation results. The mechanism of the effect of casting speed on slab broadening was also analyzed. 相似文献
