Preparing students psychologically for the NCLEX-RN

Years of experience in school and healthcare environments do not lessen the fear and anxiety associated with taking a written examination, especially one that will determine whether you will be allowed to practice as a professional nurse. The author discusses an approach to increase students' test performance on the NCLEX-RN examination.     

The dawn of dentistry: dentistry among the Etruscans

The Etruscans were a group of agricultural people who evolved into an urban population of craftsmen, traders, and navigators who lived in a network of cities and dominated the area of the Mediterranean around Italy in the 8th and 9th centuries BC. What has come to be known, and is of importance in our study of the history of dentistry are a significant number of very interesting works of art which include gold dental prostheses. The Etruscan prostheses are remarkable because they used gold bands which were soldered into rings instead of the gold wires which are seen in other cultures (Egyptians, Phoenicians) of the same time.

Preventing hypothermia when delivering fluids to a patient is of critical importance. Several varieties of fluid warmers are available to help prevent hypothermia. Before deciding which model of warmer to use, health care facilities must decide when they will use this technology.     

Preparing for a tropical expedition

Ten cases of entomophthoromycosis encountered in a period of 4 years in Tamilnadu are reported. Basidiobolomycosis accounted for eight cases and was seen predominantly in children. Two cases of conidiobolomycosis were seen in elderly patients. Potassium iodide was the drug of choice in the treatment of entomophthoromycosis. All our patients, except one, responded with complete resolution of their lesions.
