The tribological behavior of self-mated Ti3SiC2 is investigated from ambient temperature to 800?°C at a sliding speed of 0.01?m/s in air. The results show that at the temperatures lower than 300?°C, friction coefficient and wear rates are as high as 0.95 and 10?3?mm3/N?m, respectively. With the temperature increasing to 600?°C, both the friction coefficient and wear rates show consecutive decrease. At 700 and 800?°C, friction coefficient and wear rates are 0.5 and 10?6 mm3/N?m, respectively. According to the wear mechanism, the tribological behavior of Ti3SiC2 can be divided into three regimes: mechanical wear-dominated regime from ambient temperature to 300?°C characterized by pullout of grains; mixed wear regime (mechanical wear and oxidation wear) from 400 to 600?°C; and tribo-oxidation-dominated wear regime above 700?°C. The tribo-oxides on the worn surfaces involve oxides of Si and Ti. And, species transformation occurs to these two oxides with the increasing temperature. In the competition oxidation of elements Ti and Si, Si is preferably oxidized because of its high active position in the crystal structure. Additionally, plastic flow is another notable characteristic for the tribological behavior of self-mated Ti3SiC2.  相似文献

NiAl, NiAl–Cr–Mo alloy and NiAl matrix composites with addition of oxides (ZnO/CuO) were fabricated by powder metallurgy route. It was found that some new phases (such as NiZn3, Cu0.81Ni0.19 and Al2O3) are formed during the fabrication process due to a high-temperature solid state reaction. Tribological behavior was studied from room temperature to 1000 °C on an HT-1000 ball-on-disk high temperature tribometer. The results indicated that NiAl had high friction coefficient and wear rate at elevated temperatures, while incorporation of Cr(Mo) not only enhanced mechanical properties evidently but also improved high temperature tribological properties. Among the sintered materials, NiAl matrix composite with addition of ZnO showed the lowest wear rate at 1000 °C, while CuO addition into NiAl matrix composite exhibited the self-lubricating performance and the best tribological properties at 800 °C.  相似文献

The tribological characteristics of low-pressure plasma-sprayed (LPPS) Al2O3 coating sliding against alumina ball have been investigated from room temperature to 800 °C. These friction and wear data have been compared quantitatively with those of bulk sintered alumina to obtain a better understanding of wear mechanisms at elevated temperatures. The friction and wear of Al2O3 coating show a strong dependence on temperature, changing from a mild to a severe wear regime with the increase of temperature. The coefficient of friction at room temperature is approximately 0.17 to 0.42, depending on applied load. The tribochemical reaction between the coating surface and water vapor in the environment and the presence of the hydroxide film on the Al2O3 coating reduce the friction and wear at room temperature as contrasted to those of bulk sintered alumina. At intermediate temperatures, from 400 to 600 °C, the friction and wear behavior of Al2O3 coating depends on the inter-granular fracture and pull-out of Al2O3 grains. At above 700 °C, formation and deformation of fine grain layer, and abrasive wear in the form of removal of fine alumina grains further facilitate the friction and wear process of Al2O3 coating.  相似文献

Three different self-lubricating ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) were fabricated by hot-pressed sintering. They are: Al2O3-50CaF2, Al2O3-20Ag20CaF2, and Al2O3-10Ag20CaF2. Tribological tests were performed at temperatures ranging from 20°C to 800°C in air using a pin-on-disk tester. The experimental results show that the addition of the solid lubricants CaF2 and Ag can evidently reduce the friction coefficients of alumina between 200°C and 650°C but not at room temperature and the wear rate of disks and pins at elevated temperature. The improvements in the friction and wear properties of CMC were due to the formation of a well-covered solid lubricating film. However, breakdown of the lubricating films at 800°C resulted in high friction and wear. This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

The tribological properties of NiCr-40 wt% Al2O3 (NC40A) cermet-based composites containing SrSO4 and other lubricant (graphite, MoS2 and Ag) against alumina ball were evaluated to identify their self-lubrication mechanisms from room temperature to 800 °C. The composites demonstrated distinct improvements in effectively reducing friction and wear, as compared to NC40A cermet. The best results were observed for NC40A–10SrSO4–10Ag composite, which exhibited satisfactory reproducibility of friction coefficient over a wide temperature range (200–800 °C) through high temperature cyclic friction tests due to the formation of synergistic lubricating films SrAl4O7, NiCr2O4 and Ag on the contact surface.  相似文献

An adaptive NiMoAl–Ag composite coating was deposited by high-velocity oxy fuel spraying, and its tribological properties from 20 to 800 °C under unlubricated conditions were evaluated using a CSM high-temperature tribometer. Scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy were used to characterize the coating and corresponding wear tracks to determine the lubrication mechanisms. The results showed that the friction coefficient of the NiMoAl–Ag composite coating was around 0.3 from 20 to 600 °C and reached the lowest value of 0.09 at 800 °C. Meanwhile, wear rates of the coating were maintained on the order of 10?5 mm3/N m at the test temperatures except for 400 and 600 °C. Characterization of the NiMoAl–Ag coating revealed that silver provided lubrication below 400 °C. Ag2Mo2O7 and Ag2MoO4, which were formed through tribochemical reactions, acted as high-temperature lubricants above 400 °C. It was especially proposed that silver in a nearly molten state was effective in reducing the friction of the NiMoAl–Ag coating at 800 °C. Moreover, a comprehensive lubrication mechanism model of an NiMoAl–Ag composite coating at 800 °C was established to explain the extremely low friction coefficient and wear rate of the coating.  相似文献

The Ni3Al matrix composites with addition of 10, 15, and 20 wt% BaMoO4 were fabricated by powder metallurgy technique, and the tribological behaviors were studied from room temperature to 800 °C. It was found that BaAl2O4 formed during the fabrication process. The Ni3Al composites showed poor tribological property below 400 °C, with high friction coefficients (above 0.6) and wear rates (above 10−4 mm3/Nm). However, the composites exhibited excellent self-lubricating and anti-wear properties at higher temperatures, and the composite with addition of 15 wt% BaMoO4 had the lowest wear rate (1.10 × 10−5 mm3/Nm) and friction coefficient (0.26). In addition, the results also indicated that BaAl2O4 for the Ni3Al composites did not exhibit lubricating property from room temperature to 800 °C.  相似文献

NiCr–Al2O3–SrSO4–Ag self-lubricating composites were prepared by powder metallurgy method and the tribological properties of composites were evaluated by a ball-on-disk tribometer against alumina ball at wide temperature range from the room temperature to 1,000 °C in air. The linear coefficient of thermal expansion was evaluated for investigation of thermal stability of composites. The tribo-chemical reaction films formed on the rubbing surfaces and their effects on the tribological properties of composites at different temperatures were addressed according to the surface characterization by SEM, XRD, and XPS. The results show that the NiCr–Al2O3 composite with addition of 10 wt% SrSO4 and 10 wt% Ag exhibits satisfying friction and wear properties over the entire temperature range from room temperature to 1,000 °C. The composition of the tribo-layers on the worn surfaces of the composites is varied at different temperatures. The synergistic lubricating effect of SrAl4O7, Ag, and NiCr2O4 lubricating films formed on worn surfaces were identified to reduce the friction coefficient and wear rate from room temperature to 800 °C. Meanwhile, at 1,000 °C, the SrCrO4 and NiAl2O4 was formed on the worn surfaces during sliding process, combining with the NiCr2O4, Al2O3, Cr2O3, Ag, and Ag2O, which play an important role in the formation of a continuous lubricating film on the sliding surface.  相似文献

Silver-based composite with 15?vol% MoS2 and with 5?vol% graphite was prepared by powder metallurgy method. The impacts of the counterface materials, atmosphere, and temperature on the tribological behavior of the composite were investigated. It was found that when sliding against brass less effective lubricating film formed, causing a higher friction and wear comparing with ASTM-1045 steel. With the increasing proportion of oxygen in the O2/N2 atmosphere, the wear rate and friction coefficient ascended slightly. At 200?°C, the combination lubrication of graphite, MoS2, and Ag contributed to a low friction coefficient (0.07) and wear rate (6.56?×?10?6?mm3/Nm). At 400?°C, graphite lost its lubricating role, while silver became excessively soft. Large amount of MoS2 was oxidized into MoO3, and the residual MoS2 formed some island-like lubricating films. Severe adhesive wear occurred on the contact surface, which led to a high friction coefficient (0.25) and a great increase of the wear rate (23.2?×?10?6?mm3/Nm). At 600?°C, a relatively low friction coefficient (0.1) was obtained because of the formation of high-temperature solid lubricants, (Ag2Mo4O13 and Ag2Mo2O7) and liquid Ag2Mo2O7. However, the wear rate at 600?°C was the highest (32.6?×?10?6?mm3/Nm) due to the thick transfer layer.  相似文献

In this article, field-activated and pressure-assisted synthesis was employed to synthesize an ultra-hard, super-abrasive AlMgB14–TiB2 composite ceramic. The friction and wear performance of the AlMgB14–TiB2 composite were evaluated in ambient air at temperatures up to 800 °C by using a reciprocating ball-on-disk high-temperature tribometer. X-ray diffraction experiments were performed to study the crystal structure of worn surfaces of AlMgB14–TiB2 specimens at various temperatures. Scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive analysis were used to examine the worn surface features and chemical composition of the AlMgB14–TiB2 composite, respectively. Results showed that the friction coefficient of the AlMgB14–TiB2 composite ranged from 0.45 to 0.55 below 300 °C, while the data obtained at 500 and 600 °C were about 0.65. The damage mechanism is transformed from mild abrasive damage at room temperature to adhesive wear at elevated temperature. In the case of 800 °C, the AlMgB14–TiB2 composite exhibited the lowest friction coefficient as the formation of a lubricious oxide film on the wear track.  相似文献

A composite material containing silver and molybdenum metals was fabricated by powder metallurgy method with a Ag/Mo molar ratio of 2 : 1 and the sintering temperature is 700°C. Tribological properties, especially the solid lubrication behaviours during oxidation of the composite in air, were considered from room temperature to 600°C. Phase composition, microstructure and thermal behaviour of the composite were analysed before and after tests to investigate the lubrication mechanisms. The friction coefficients of the composite are ~0.7 below 400°C but decrease sharply to ~0.18 above 500°C. Characterisations of this composite indicate that several silver molybdates (Ag2MoO4, Ag2Mo2O7 and Ag2Mo4O13) formed from oxidation of Ag–Mo composite at high temperatures benefit lubrication effects and lead to the decrease of friction coefficients. Formation mechanism of these silver molybdates during oxidation and wear was therefore studied, and a model based on solid reaction processes in the Ag–Mo–O2 system was promoted. Self-lubricating ZrO2(Y2O3)–Al2O3–Ba x Sr1−x SO4 (x = 0.25, 0.5, 0.75) composites have been fabricated by spark plasma sintering (SPS) method. The tribological properties have been evaluated using a high-temperature friction and wear tester at room temperature and 760 °C in dry sliding against alumina ball. The composites exhibit distinct improvements in effectively reducing friction and wear, as compared to the unmodified ZrO2(Y2O3)–Al2O3 ceramics. The ZrO2(Y2O3)–Al2O3–Ba x Sr1−x SO4 (x = 0.25, 0.5, 0.75) composites have great low and stable friction coefficients of less than 0.15 and wear rates in the order of 10− 6mm3/Nm at 760 °C. Delamination is considered as the dominating wear mechanism of the composites at room temperature. At elevated temperature, the formation and effective spreading of Ba x Sr1−x SO4 (x = 0.25, 0.5, 0.75) lubricating films during sliding play an important role in the reduction of the friction and wear.  相似文献

Resistance to wear is an important factor in design and selection of structural components in relative motion against a mating surface. The present work deals with studies on fretting wear behavior of in situ nano-Al3Ti reinforced Al–Ti–Si amorphous/nanocrystalline matrix composite, processed by high pressure (8 GPa) sintering at room temperature, 350, 400 or 450 °C. The wear experiments were carried out in gross slip fretting regime to investigate the performance of this composite against Al2O3 at ambient temperature (22–25 °C) and humidity (50–55%). The highest resistance to fretting wear has been observed in the composites sintered at 400 °C. The fretting wear involves oxidation of Al3Ti particles in the composite. A continuous, smooth and protective tribolayer is formed on the worn surface of the composite sintered at 400 °C, while fragmentation and spallation leads to a rougher surface and greater wear in the composite sintered at 450 °C.  相似文献

The tribological behaviour of different monolithic and composite ceramics was evaluated in the temperature range between room temperature and 750°C. The test method was oscillating sliding with a ball‐on‐disk arrangement in an SRV machine. Alumina balls were used as counter body. The friction behaviour was determined on‐line, and the wear behaviour was determined from calculations on the basis of wear scar dimensions and profilometric measurements. The friction depends on temperature and shows an increase for most materials for increasing temperature; the smallest friction at all temperatures is found for monolithic TiC. The wear behaviour shows different trends for the different materials. In tests against SiC a maximum of wear is found at 500°C, for TiC at 200°C and for TiB2 at 750°C. The composite ceramics suffer the smallest wear of all materials in the range from 200°C to 500°C. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The tribological properties of Ni-17.5Si-29.3Cr alloy against Si3N4 were studied on a ball-on-disc tribotester between room temperature and 1000 °C. The effects of temperature on the tribological properties of the alloy were investigated. The worn surfaces of the alloy were examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The results indicated that the tribological behavior of the alloy expressed some differences with increase in testing temperature. At low and moderate temperatures (below 800 °C), the alloy showed excellent wear and oxidation resistances, and the wear rate of the alloy remained in the magnitude of 10?5 mm3/Nm; but at elevated temperature (800–1000 °C), the wear and oxidation resistances decreased, and the wear rate of the alloy increased up to 10?4 mm3/Nm. The friction coefficient decreased from 0.58 to 0.46 with the rising of testing temperature from 20 to 600 °C, and then remained nearly constant. The wear mechanism of the alloy was mainly fracture and delamination at low and moderate temperatures, and transformed to adhesive and oxidation at elevated temperatures.  相似文献

The present work focuses on investigating the wear and friction characteristics of the Atmospheric Plasma Sprayed Cr3C2-NiCr coatings deposited onto the surface of die steel material. The as-sprayed specimens were characterized. The coating porosity, bond strength and microhardness values were evaluated. Wear tests were performed on the high-temperature pin-on-disc tribometer at room temperatures, 400°C and 800°C under two loads as 25N and 50N in the laboratory. The wear mechanisms of all the worn-out samples were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) technique. The specific wear rates and the coefficient of friction values were analyzed. The developed coating showed better wear resistance than its uncoated counterpart. The coefficient of friction values for coated specimens decreased at elevated temperatures. At room temperatures, the wear mode was observed to be adhesive and further at elevated temperatures of testing, the wear mode was observed to be the combination of oxidative, adhesive and abrasive.  相似文献

A layer of AlTiN coating was deposited on YT14 cutting tool by cathodic arc ion plating (CAIP) and the coefficients of friction (COFs) of the AlTiN coating under different loads at a temperature of 800°C were investigated with a high-temperature wear tester. The wear morphologies, chemical elements, and phases of the coating after wear were analyzed with scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive spectrometry (EDS), and X-ray diffraction (XRD), respectively, and the contours of wear tracks were investigated with a comprehensive measurement tester for material surface performance. The effects of loads on COFs and wear resistance of the AlTiN coating were analyzed, and the wear mechanism of the AlTiN coating at high temperature is discussed. The results show that the mixed oxides of Al2O3 and TiO2 are produced under high temperature to improve the lubrication performance and wear resistance of the AlTiN coating. The average COFs of the coating under loads of 5, 7, and 9 N are 0.6495, 0.5897, and 0.3898, respectively. The COFs of the coating decrease with increasing load; as a result, the AlTiN coating is suitable for heavy loads at high temperature. The friction and wear mechanisms of the AlTiN coating are primarily composed of oxidation wear and abrasive wear, accompanied by fatigue wear and adhesive wear.  相似文献

An investigation is conducted on the unexplored synergistic effects of multilayer graphene (MLG) and Ti3SiC2 in self-lubricating composites for use in high-temperature friction and wear applications. The tribological properties of TiAl matrix self-lubricating composites with different solid lubricant additions (Ti3SiC2-MLG, MLG) are investigated from room temperature to 800°C using a rotating ball-on-disk configuration. Tribological results suggest the evolution of lubrication properties of MLG and the excellent synergistic lubricating effect of MLG and Ti3SiC2 as the testing temperature changes. It can be deduced that MLG has great potential applications as a promising high-temperature solid lubricant within 400°C, and a combination of MLG and Ti3SiC2 is an effective way to achieve and maintain desired tribological properties over a wide temperature range.  相似文献

The results presented in this paper have clarified experimentally, that titania-based Magnéli-phases (Ti4O7/Ti5O9 and Ti6O11) with (121)-shear planes exhibit more anti-wear properties than lubricious (low-frictional) properties. The results for dry sliding indicate that the coefficients of friction lie in the range of 0.1–0.6 depending on sliding speed and ambient temperature. The COF decreased with increasing temperature (T= 22–800°C) and increasing sliding speed (υ= 1−6 m/s). The dry sliding wear rate was lowest for the Al2O3 at 1 m/s at 800°C with values of 1.7 × 10−8 and 6.4 × 10−8 mm3/N m, comparable to boundary/mixed lubrication, associated with a high dry frictional power loss of 30 W/mm2. The running-in wear length and, more important, the wear rate decreased under oscillating sliding tests with increasing relative humidity. The contact pressure for high-/low-wear transition increased under oscillating sliding tests with increasing relative humidity. At room temperature and a relative humidity of 100% the steady-state wear rate under dry oscillating sliding for the couple Al2O3/Ti4O7–Ti5O9 was lower than 2 × 10−7 mm3/N m and therefore inferior to the resolution of the continuous wear measurement sensor. TEM of wear tracks from oscillating sliding revealed at room temperature a work-hardening as mechanism to explain the running-in behavior and the high wear resistance. The Ni-based self-lubricating composites with addition of 10 and 20?wt% Ag2MoO4 were fabricated by powder metallurgy technique, and the effect of Ag2MoO4 on tribological properties was investigated from room temperature to 700?°C. The tribo-chemical reaction films formed on rubbing surface and their effects on the tribological properties of composites at different temperatures were addressed according to the surface characterization by SEM and Micro-Raman. The results show that the Ag2MoO4 decomposed into Ag and Mo during the high-temperature fabrication process. The friction coefficient and wear rate of the composites decrease with the increasing of temperature and Ag2MoO4 contents and the composites with addition of 20?wt% Ag2MoO4 exhibits the lowest friction coefficient (0.26) and wear rate (1.02?×?10?5?mm3?N?1?m?1) at 700?°C. The composition of the tribo-layers on the worn surfaces of the composites is varied at different temperatures. It is proposed that the improving of tribological properties of the composites at high temperatures are attributed to the synergistic lubricating effect of silver molybdate (reproduced in the rubbing process at high temperatures) and Fe oxide (transfer from disk material to the pin) formed on the worn surface.  相似文献
