Waste anchovy fish oils transesterification was studied with the purpose of achieving the conditions for biodiesel usage in a single cylinder, direct injection compression ignition. With this purpose, the pure biodiesel produced from anchovy fish oil, biodiesel-diesel fuel blends of 25%:75% biodiesel-diesel (B25), 50%:50% biodiesel-diesel (B50), 75%:25% biodiesel-diesel (B75) and petroleum diesel fuels were used in the engine to specify how the engine performance and exhaust emission parameters changed. The fuel properties of test fuels were analyzed. Tests were performed at full load engine operation with variable speeds of 1000, 1500, 2000 and 2500 rpm engine speeds. As results of investigations on comparison of fuels with each other, there has been a decrease with 4.14% in fish oil methyl ester (FOME) and its blends' engine torque, averagely 5.16% reduction in engine power, while 4.96% increase in specific fuel consumption have been observed. On one hand there has been average reduction as 4.576%, 21.3%, 33.42% in CO2, CO, HC, respectively; on the other hand, there has been increase as 9.63%, 29.37% and 7.54% in O2, NOx and exhaust gas temperature has been observed. It was also found that biodiesel from anchovy fish oil contains 37.93 wt.% saturated fatty acids which helps to improve cetane number and lower NOx emissions. Besides, for biodiesel and its blends, average smoke opacity was reduces about 16% in comparison to D2. It can be concluded that waste anchovy fish obtained from biodiesel can be used as a substitute for petroleum diesel in diesel engines.  相似文献

This work investigates the impacts on fuel consumption and exhaust emissions of a diesel power generator operating with biodiesel. Fuel blends with 5%, 20%, 35%, 50%, and 85% of soybean biodiesel in diesel oil, and fuel blends containing 5%, 20%, and 35% of castor oil biodiesel in diesel oil were tested, varying engine load from 9.6 to 35.7 kW. Specific fuel consumption (SFC) and the exhaust concentrations of carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO), and hydrocarbons (HC) were evaluated. The engine was kept with its original settings for diesel oil operation. The results showed increased fuel consumption with higher biodiesel concentration in the fuel. Soybean biodiesel blends showed lower fuel consumption than castor biodiesel blends at a given concentration. At low and moderate loads, CO emission was increased by nearly 40% and over 80% when fuel blends containing 35% of castor oil biodiesel or soybean biodiesel were used, respectively, in comparison with diesel oil. With the load power of 9.6 kW, the use of fuel blends containing 20% of castor oil biodiesel or soybean biodiesel increased HC emissions by 16% and 18%, respectively, in comparison with diesel oil. Exhaust CO2 concentration did not change significantly, showing differences lower than ±3% of the values recorded for diesel oil operation, irrespective of biodiesel type, concentration and the load applied. The results demonstrate that optimization of fuel injection system is required for proper engine operation with biodiesel.  相似文献

Safflower seed oil was chemically treated by the transesterification reaction in methyl alcohol environment with sodium hydroxide (NaOH) to produce biodiesel. The produced biodiesel was blended with diesel fuel by 5% (B5), 20% (B20) and 50% (B50) volumetrically. Some of important physical and chemical fuel properties of blend fuels, pure biodiesel and diesel fuel were determined. Performance and emission tests were carried out on a single cylinder diesel engine to compare biodiesel blends with petroleum diesel fuel. Average performance reductions were found as 2.2%, 6.3% and 11.2% for B5, B20 and B50 fuels, respectively, in comparison to diesel fuel. These reductions are low and can be compensated by a slight increase in brake specific fuel consumption (Bsfc). For blends, Bsfcs were increased by 2.8%, 3.9% and 7.8% as average for B5, B20 and B50, respectively. Considerable reductions were recorded in PM and smoke emissions with the use of biodiesel. CO emissions also decreased for biodiesel blends while NOx and HC emissions increased. But the increases in HC emissions can be neglected as they have very low amounts for all test fuels. It can be concluded that the use of safflower oil biodiesel has beneficial effects both in terms of emission reductions and alternative petroleum diesel fuel.  相似文献

An alternative fuel production was performed by pyrolysis of waste vehicle tires under nitrogen (N2) environment and with calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) as catalyst. The sulfur content of liquids obtained were reduced by using Ca(OH)2. The liquid fuel of waste vehicle tires(TF) was then used in a diesel engine to blend with petroleum diesel fuel by 5%(TF5), 10%(TF10), 15%(TF15), 25%(TF25), 35%(TF35), 50%(TF50), and 75%(TF75) wt. and pure (TF100). Performance characteristics such as engine power, engine torque, brake specific fuel consumption (bsfc) and exhaust temperature and emission parameters such as oxides of nitrogen (NOx), carbon monoxides (CO), total unburned hydrocarbon (HC), sulfur dioxides (SO2) and smoke opacity of the engine operation with TF and blend fuels of TF-diesel were experimentally investigated and compared with those of petroleum diesel fuel. It was concluded that the blends of pyrolysis oil of waste tires TF5, TF10, TF25 and TF35 can efficiently be used in diesel engines without any engine modifications. However, the blends of TF50, TF75 and TF100 resulted considerably to high CO, HC, SO2 and smoke emissions.  相似文献

The effects of diesel oil-soybean biodiesel blends on a passenger vehicle exhaust pollutant emissions were investigated. Blends of diesel oil and soybean biodiesel with concentrations of 3% (B3), 5% (B5), 10% (B10) and 20% (B20) were used as fuels. Additionally, the effects of anhydrous ethanol as an additive to B20 fuel blend with concentrations of 2% (B20E2) and 5% (B20E5) were also studied. The emissions tests were carried out following the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). The results showed that increasing biodiesel concentration in the fuel blend increases carbon dioxide (CO2) and oxides of nitrogen (NOX) emissions, while carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC) and particulate matter (PM) emissions are reduced. The addition of anhydrous ethanol to B20 fuel blend proved it can be a strategy to control exhaust NOX and global warming effects through the reduction of CO2 concentration. However, it may require fuel injection modifications, as it increases CO, HC and PM emissions.  相似文献

The paper presents the experimental results obtained concerning performances and pollution of a diesel engine fueled with diesel–biodiesel–ethanol blends compared with diesel fuel in laboratory tests. The main properties of the researched fuels are presented within this paper, in comparison with classical diesel fuel (chemical composition, density, kinematic viscosity, cold filter plugging point, flash point). Engines’ performances were evaluated by determining the brake specific fuel consumption and brake thermal efficiency. For pollution evaluation the emissions of CO, CO2, NOx, HC and smoke have been measured. An increasing of brake specific fuel consumption has been observed, especially at lower engines’ loads, with maximum 32.4%, reducing engine brake thermal efficiency with maximum 21.7%. CO emissions decrease, especially at high loads with maximum 59%, on the basis of CO2 increased emissions. NOx emissions slightly increase, especially at partial and high loads, meanwhile HC and smoke emissions decrease in all engines’ load cycles.  相似文献

Biodiesel is an alternative fuel that is cleaner than petrodiesel. Biodiesel can be used directly as fuel for a diesel engine without having to modify the engine system. It has the major advantages of having high biodegradability, excellent lubricity and no sulfur content. In this study, the biodiesel produced by a transesterification technique was further reacted by using a peroxidation process. Four types of diesel fuel, biodiesel with and without an additional peroxidation process, a commercial biodiesel and ASTM No. 2D diesel were compared for their fuel properties, engine performance and emission characteristics. The experimental results show that the fuel consumption rate, brake thermal efficiency, equivalence ratio, and exhaust gas temperature increased while the bsfc, emission indices of CO2, CO and NOx decreased with an increase of engine speed. The three biodiesels showed a higher fuel consumption rate, bsfc, and brake thermal efficiency, while at the same time exhibited lower emission indices of CO and CO2 as well as a lower exhaust gas temperature when compared to ASTM No. 2D diesel. Moreover, the biodiesel produced with the additional peroxidation process was found to have an oxygen content, weight proportion of saturated carbon bonds, fuel consumption rate, and bsfc that were higher than the biodiesel produced without the additional process; while at the same time the brake thermal efficiency, equivalence ratio, and emission indices of CO2, CO and NOx were found to be lower. In particular, biodiesel produced with the addition of the peroxidation process had the lowest equivalence ratio and emission indices of CO2, CO and NOx among all of the four test fuels. Therefore, the peroxidation process can be used to effectively improve the fuel properties and reduce emissions when biodiesel is used.  相似文献

Experimental tests were investigated to evaluate the performance, emission and combustion of a diesel engine using neat rapeseed oil and its blends of 5%, 20% and 70%, and standard diesel fuel separately. The results indicate that the use of biodiesel produces lower smoke opacity (up to 60%), and higher brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC) (up to 11%) compared to diesel fuel. The measured CO emissions of B5 and B100 fuels were found to be 9% and 32% lower than that of the diesel fuel, respectively. The BSFC of biodiesel at the maximum torque and rated power conditions were found to be 8.5% and 8% higher than that of the diesel fuel, respectively. From the combustion analysis, it was found that ignition delay was shorter for neat rapeseed oil and its blends tested compared to that of standard diesel. The combustion characteristics of rapeseed oil and its diesel blends closely followed those of standard diesel.  相似文献

Biodiesel is an alternative fuel for internal combustion engines. It can reduce carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbon (HC) and particulate matter (PM) emissions, compared with diesel fuel, but there is also an increase in nitrogen oxides (NOx) emission. This study is aimed to compare the effect of applying a biodiesel with either 10% blended methanol or 10% fumigation methanol. The biodiesel used in this study was converted from waste cooking oil. Experiments were performed on a 4-cylinder naturally aspirated direct injection diesel engine operating at a constant speed of 1800 rev/min with five different engine loads. The results indicate a reduction of CO2, NOx, and particulate mass emissions and a reduction in mean particle diameter, in both cases, compared with diesel fuel. It is of interest to compare the two modes of fueling with methanol in combination with biodiesel. For the blended mode, there is a slightly higher brake thermal efficiency at low engine load while the fumigation mode gives slightly higher brake thermal efficiency at medium and high engine loads. In the fumigation mode, an extra fuel injection control system is required, and there is also an increase in CO, HC and NO2 (nitrogen dioxide) and particulate emissions in the engine exhaust, which are disadvantages compared with the blended mode.  相似文献

In this study, Euro V diesel fuel, biodiesel, and ethanol-biodiesel blends (BE) were tested in a 4-cylinder direct-injection diesel engine to investigate the combustion, performance and emission characteristics of the engine under five engine loads at the maximum torque engine speed of 1800 rpm. The results indicate that when compared with biodiesel, the combustion characteristics of ethanol-biodiesel blends changed; the engine performance has improved slightly with 5% ethanol in biodiesel (BE5). In comparison with Euro V diesel fuel, the biodiesel and BE blends have higher brake thermal efficiency. On the whole, compared with Euro V diesel fuel, the BE blends could lead to reduction of both NOx and particulate emissions of the diesel engine. The effectiveness of NOx and particulate reductions increases with increasing ethanol in the blends. With high percentage of ethanol in the BE blends, the HC, CO emissions could increase. But the use of BE5 could reduce the HC and CO emissions as well.  相似文献

Biodiesel use as an automotive fuel is expanding around the world and this calls for better characterisation of its impact on diesel combustion, and emissions. A neat soybean-oil derived biodiesel (B100) and its 50 vol.% blend with petroleum diesel (B50) were used on a Euro 2 diesel passenger car. Measurements of CO2, CO, HC, NOx, PM, particle number and size distribution and carbonyl compounds (aldehydes and ketones) were conducted on a chassis dynamometer. Acceleration tests were performed, fuel consumption was calculated and measured and metals concentration in the lubricant was determined, in order to assess the biodiesel impact on engine performance and wear. Tests were conducted over the certification cycle and real-world driving cycles. Results showed that biodiesel presence had a negative impact under cold start conditions on both regulated emissions and fuel consumption. However the picture was different in the case of warm start real-world cycles, where differentiations were limited and in several cases biodiesel had a beneficial effect on emissions and efficiency. Regarding particle number, solid particles decreased with biodiesel but total particles increased. Certain carbonyl compounds were also increased with B100. Overall, biodiesel at high blending ratios may strongly impact emissions, in a rather non-uniform manner, with the actual effect being dependant on driving conditions and blending ratio. Some of the differentiations observed were not expected when compared to similar results presented in the literature. However this study does not reach definitive conclusions but rather presents a case that may appear in the European passenger car fleet, which requires further attention and research.  相似文献

An experimental study of the performance and emission characteristics of diesel engine using direct and indirect injection combustion systems are carried out on a same model of two diesel engines fuelled with diesel and the blend of diesel and Chinese pistache biodiesel. The results show that the NOx emissions from the indirect injection combustion system (ICS) fuelled with diesel are reduced by around two thirds, compared to that from direct injection combustion system (DCS). Smoke emissions from the engine using ICS are all significantly lower than that of DCS, reduced by 70% for diesel; by 50-60% for the blend. The brake thermal efficiencies (BTEs) reduced by 8-10%, compared to that of DCS; the fuel consumptions increased by around 7-9%. It is also found that carbon monoxide (CO) emissions are reduced when the engine run at engine high power outputs, so are the hydrocarbon (HC) emissions from ICS at the peak power outputs. It is found that, when fuelled with the blend, the effects of ICS to the performance and emissions of diesel engine are very similar to that of running with diesel. For ICS engine fuelled with diesel and the blend fuel, the BSFCs for the blend are around 5% higher; the BTEs are around 2-4% lower; the reductions of NOx from the blend fuel are 5.1-8.4% on average for the ICS; the reductions of smoke from the blend fuel are 26.8-31.7% on average for the ICS. CO emissions are around a half lower; and HC emissions are around one fifth lower, compared to that of fuelling with diesel. Comparing to that of DCS fuelled with diesel, using ICS fuelled with the blended fuel has much lower emissions. NOx emissions decreased by 65.6% and 66.1%; smoke emissions decreased by 75.7% and 80.2%; CO emissions decreased by 55.8% and 46.0%; HC emissions decreased by 24.9% and 18.9%; with the BSFCs around 14.6-14.9% higher and the BTEs around 9.7-10.0% lower.  相似文献

The use of biodiesel is increasing as an attractive fuel due to the depleting fossil fuel resources and environmental degradation. This paper presents results of an investigation on the potentials of biodiesel as an alternative fuel and main substitute of diesel oil, comparing the CO2 emissions of the main fuels in the Brazilian market with those of biodiesel, in pure form or blended in different proportions with diesel oil (2%, 5%, and 20%, called B2, B5, and B20, respectively). The results of the study are shown in ton CO2 per m3 and ton CO2 per year of fuel. The fuels were analyzed considering their chemical composition, stoichiometric combustion parameters and mean consumption for a single vehicle. The fuels studied were: gasoline, diesel oil, anhydrous ethyl alcohol (anhydrous ethanol), and biodiesel from used frying oil and from soybean oil. For the case of biodiesel, its complete life cycle and the closed carbon cycle (photosynthesis) were considered. With data provided by the Brazilian Association of Automotive Vehicle Manufacturers (ANFAVEA) for the number of vehicles produced in Brazil, the emissions of CO2 for the national fleet in 2007 were obtained per type of fuel. With data provided by the Brazilian Department of Transit (DENATRAN) concerning the number of diesel vehicles in the last five years in Brazil, the total CO2 emissions and the percentage that they would decrease in the case of use of pure biodiesel, B100, or several mixtures, B2, B5 and B20, were calculated. Estimates of CO2 emissions for a future scenario considering the mixtures B5 and B20 are also included in this article.  相似文献

Non-edible filtered high viscous (72 cSt at 40 °C) and high acid value (44 mg KOH/gm) polanga (Calophyllum inophyllum L.) oil based mono esters (biodiesel) produced by triple stage transesterification process and blended with high speed diesel (HSD) were tested for their use as a substitute fuel of diesel in a single cylinder diesel engine. HSD and polanga oil methyl ester (POME) fuel blends (20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100%) were used for conducting the short-term engine performance tests at varying loads (0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100%). Tests were carried out over entire range of engine operation at varying conditions of speed and load. The brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC) and brake thermal efficiency (BTE) were calculated from the recorded data. The engine performance parameters such as fuel consumption, thermal efficiency, exhaust gas temperature and exhaust emissions (CO, CO2, HC, NOx, and O2) were recorded. The optimum engine operating condition based on lower brake specific fuel consumption and higher brake thermal efficiency was observed at 100% load for neat biodiesel. From emission point of view the neat POME was found to be the best fuel as it showed lesser exhaust emission as compared to HSD.  相似文献

Soapnut (Sapindus mukorossi) oil, a nonedible straight vegetable oil was blended with petroleum diesel in various proportions to evaluate the performance and emission characteristics of a single cylinder direct injection constant speed diesel engine. Diesel and soapnut oil (10%, 20%, 30% and 40%) fuel blends were used to conduct short-term engine performance and emission tests at varying loads in terms of 25% load increments from no load to full loads. Tests were carried out for engine operation and engine performance parameters such as fuel consumption, brake thermal efficiency, and exhaust emissions (smoke, CO, UBHC, NOx, and O2) were recorded. Among the blends SNO 10 has shown a better performance with respect to BTE and BSEC. All blends have shown higher HC emissions after about 75% load. SNO 10 and SNO 20 showed lower CO emissions at full load. NOx emission for all blends was lower and SNO 40 blend achieved a 35% reduction in NOx emission. SNO 10% has an overall better performance with regards to both engine performance and emission characteristics.  相似文献

By the method of data collation, research into changes in life histories (ignition delay plus time of combustion) of the compounded fuel droplets (diesel fuel-biodiesel fuel (RME)-bioethanol), as well as diesel engine D-144 brake specific fuel consumption rates was performed and obtained results being compared to diesel fuel by an analogous manner.An optimum composition of the multi-component blend B30 + 7.5E demonstrating specific fuel consumption rates and droplet combustion characteristics very similar to diesel fuel was derived. In comparison to B30, a newly derived combustible blend demonstrated fairly improved emissions of exhaust gases. For low load mode: smoke opacity (−10%), NOX (−2%), CO (−20%), and HC (−12.5%). For average load mode: smoke opacity (−10%), NOX (−2%), CO (−22%), and HC (−14.5%). For high load mode: smoke opacity (−18%), NOX (−2%), CO (−22%), and HC (−18%).  相似文献

This study investigates the impact of mid-high biodiesel blends on the criteria and PAH emissions from a pick-up diesel vehicle. The vehicle was a Euro 4 (category N1, subclass III) compliant common rail light duty vehicle fitted with a diesel oxidation catalyst. Emission and fuel consumption measurements were performed on a chassis dynamometer using constant volume sampling (CVS) technique, following the European regulations. All measurements were conducted over the NEDC and Artemis driving cycles. Aiming to evaluate the fuel impact on emissions, a soy-based biodiesel, a palm-based biodiesel, and an oxidized biodiesel obtained from used frying oils were blended with an ultra low sulfur diesel at proportions of 30%, 50% and 80% by volume. CO2 emissions and fuel consumption exhibited increases with biodiesel over all driving conditions which ranged up to 5%. NOx emissions were found to be above the Euro 4 limit and increased with biodiesel between 5% and 10% except for the blends prepared with the palm-based methyl ester. The emissions of PM, HC, and CO decreased with the addition of biodiesel reaching maximum reductions in the order of 10%, 30% and 20% respectively; however, some increases were observed over the NEDC which may be attributed to cold-start. Sharp increases in most PAH, nitro-PAH and oxy-PAH compounds were observed with the application of biodiesel. These increases were particularly noticeable with the use of the oxidized blends, a phenomenon that it is related with the type and quality of this fuel. The emissions were also affected by the operating conditions of the engine. It was found that most PAH compounds were decreased as the mean speed and load of the driving cycle increased.  相似文献

A gas-to-liquid (GTL) fuel derived from Low Temperature Fischer-Tropsch process has been tested in an automotive diesel engine fulfilling Euro 4 emissions regulations. Both regulated and non-regulated emissions have been compared with those of a commercial diesel fuel, a commercial biodiesel fuel and a GTL-biodiesel fuel (30% and 70% v/v, respectively) in order to check blending properties, synergistic effects and compatibility between first and second generation production technologies for biofuel consumption in current diesel engines. After presenting a detailed literature review, and confirming that similar efficiencies are attained with the four tested fuels under identical road-like operating conditions (this meaning fuel consumption is inversely proportional to their heating values), significant reductions in smoke opacity, particulate matter emissions and particle number concentration were observed with both GTL and biodiesel fuels, with small changes in NOx emissions. Compared with the reductions in PM emissions derived from the use of biodiesel fuels, those derived from using GTL fuels were quite similar, despite its lower soot emissions reductions. This can be explained by the lower volatile organic fraction of the PM in the case of GTL. By adequately blending both fuels, a considerable potential to optimise the engine emissions trade-off is foreseen.  相似文献

Jojoba methyl ester (JME) has been used as a renewable fuel in numerous studies evaluating its potential use in diesel engines. These studies showed that this fuel is a very good gas oil substitute but an increase in the nitrogenous oxides emissions was observed at all operating conditions. The aim of this study mainly was to quantify the efficiency of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) when using JME fuel in a fully instrumented, two-cylinder, naturally aspirated, four-stroke direct injection diesel engine. The tests were made in two sections. Firstly, the measured performance and exhaust emissions of the diesel engine operating with diesel fuel and JME are determined and compared. Secondly, tests were performed at two speeds and loads to investigate the EGR effect on engine performance and exhaust emissions including nitrogenous oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), unburned hydrocarbons (HC) and exhaust gas temperatures. Also, effect of cooled EGR with high ratio at full load on engine performance and emissions was examined. The results showed that EGR is an effective technique for reducing NOx emissions with JME fuel especially in light duty diesel engines. A better trade-off between HC, CO and NOx emissions can be attained within a limited EGR rate of 5-15% with very little economy penalty.  相似文献

Biodiesel is recognized as a clean alternative fuel or as a fuel additive to reduce pollutant emissions from combustion equipment. Because cultivated land is too limited to grow seed-oil plants sufficient to produce both food and biodiesel, non-land-based oleaginous materials have been considered important sources for the production of the latter. In this study, the discarded parts of mixed marine fish species were used as the raw material to produce biodiesel. Marine fish oil was extracted from the discarded parts of mixed marine fish and refined through a series of pretreatment processes. The refined marine fish oil was then transesterified with methyl alcohol to produce biodiesel, which was used thereafter as engine fuel to investigate its engine performance and emission characteristics. The experimental results show that, compared with commercial biodiesel from waste cooking oil, marine fish-oil biodiesel has a larger gross heating value, elemental carbon and hydrogen content, cetane index, exhaust gas temperature, brake fuel conversion efficiency, NOx and O2 emissions, and black smoke opacity and a lower elemental oxygen content, fuel consumption rate, brake-specific fuel consumption rate, equivalence ratio, and CO emission. Compared with ASTM No. 2D diesel, both marine fish-oil and waste cooking-oil biodiesels appear to have a lower gross heating value, cetane index, exhaust gas temperature, equivalence ratio, black smoke opacity, elemental carbon content, and CO emission and a higher fuel consumption rate and elemental oxygen content.  相似文献
