公钥认证体系已经逐渐成为网络安全系统的主流。长课题设计了一个基于PKI的校园网络安全系统平台,系统所使用的证书格式符合ITU-T的X.509标准,CA证书的请求和发布使用PKCS标准。     

Designing Scientific Knowledge Infrastructures: The Contribution of Epistemology

Scientific knowledge is increasingly being stored in online infrastructures such as electronic journals, digital libraries and online encyclopedias. Their designers need to find an adequate approach for representing this knowledge. Unfortunately, most online infrastructures adopt the traditional article-issue-journal model which is based on print technology. This article develops an alternative model for the representation of scientific knowledge which is based on epistemology—the theory of knowledge. The characteristics of scientific knowledge identified by four philosophers of science—Popper, Nagel, Dubin and Bunge—are synthesized into a conceptual model which can be used as the foundation of scientific knowledge infrastructures in an online environment. The article shows that much more fine-grained structures are needed for representing scientific knowledge. Knowledge should not be accumulated as a collection of articles but as a network of epistemologically relevant elements such as theories, concepts, statements, facts etc.     

Publishing sensor observations into Geospatial Information Infrastructures: A use case in fire danger assessment

To improve environmental monitoring, the availability of large coverage, interoperable spatio-temporal data is crucial for its integration into environmental models, for example, to compute fire danger models. In order to produce up-to-date and accurate results, these models require data with high temporal and spatial resolution. Thus, it is promising to consider the increasing number of in-situ sensors providing observations of our environment in real-time. Today, interoperable access to such spatio-temporal data is achieved by Geospatial Information Infrastructures (GIIs). From a technical point of view, GIIs provide these data through standards-based Web service interfaces. While those Web service interfaces already enable the interoperable discovery and retrieval of sensor observations, the functionality to publish sensor observations is still an arduous task. Hence, in this paper, we present an approach to improve the registration of sensors and the publication of their observations via standards-based Web service interfaces. We evaluate our approach by extending a standards-based GII and by applying the developed approach as a proof of concept to integrate in-situ weather observations into the European Forest Fire Information System for assessing fire danger in Spain.     

The variety of information society development paths in central Europe

Mainly on the basis of the eEurope+surveys the variety of Information Society developments paths in Central European countries is analysed, focusing on ICT infrastructure, Internet usage, e-commerce and digital divides. Despite the big progress made by the Central European countries since transition began, most of these countries lag behind the EU-15 average on most Information Society indicators. The variety within Central Europe is enormous, with Slovenia and Estonia close to main-stream Europe and, on the other hand, Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary lagging far behind. In most surveyed countries fixed telephone line penetration is stagnating or declining on a rather low level, putting a break on IS development. This makes alternative access devices to Internet, such as cable TV modem, even more important.

The usefulness of mobile multimedia communications: a case study

To design new technologies, such as mobile multimedia communications, in a proper way, early assessment of their usefulness and requirements is needed. However, early assessment still lacks a sound methodology. This article presents an early assessment method that has been developed in a case study on the usefulness of mobile multimedia communications. After the introduction, the method will be briefly explained. The method consists of the following stages: preliminary investigation, analysis, scenario development, workshop evaluation, and simulation. These stages contain the aspects and consequences of the reference model that has been explained in the introduction of this volume: (1) the involvement of stakeholder groups; (2) the multi-facet approach to the development and evaluation of telematics applications; (3) the important role of theoretical notions in the development process; (4) the importance of a multi-disciplinary team. A case study in the area of emergency medicine will be presented, focusing on the usefulness of mobile multimedia communications. Finally, conclusions will be drawn from the case study.     

信息战中数据访问和集成模型设计与实现

提出了一种信息访问和集成模型的实现策略,即在不同种类的信息资源和信息应用之间构建1个中间层软降——“虚拟数据库系统”,通过“虚拟数据库系统”提供的标准访问接口及统一数据格式对信息战环境中各种分布的、异构的、不同种类的信息资源进行动态访问和集成,以此来提高信息的可访性、可用性、时效性、安全性。     

数字证书在环保行业的应用分析

目前国家环保部正在开展的国家环境信息与统计能力建设项目中,采用数字证书为业务系统提供强身份认证服务。详细论述了数字证书在环保部的应用模式,指出了今后的工作方向,同时也指出了现有应用模式的不足之处。     

The enchanting potential of technology: a dialogical case study of enchantment and the Internet

Although user experience is now widely accepted as a central concern in human–computer interaction and interaction design, its conceptual and methodological implications are still being worked out. Enchantment has become emblematic in this process by pointing to the enlivening potential of technology in people-technology relations. As part of an ongoing project to deepen our understanding of enchantment in user experience, this paper presents a case study of one person’s enchantment with their Internet uses. The analysis suggests three salient aspects of this enchantment: responsive crossing of boundaries; dialogue in personal transformation; and the potential endlessness and depths of enchantment. It also suggests that some characteristics of interaction with the particular medium facilitate enchantment: personal control over self-presentation; the paradox of being able to carefully craft meaning from what is normally chaotic; the possibility of finding and constructing personal narratives online; playing in a vast pool of information. Reflection on the results of this single case analysis points to the value for understanding user experience of in-depth single-case analyses that focus on the personal and particular.

WritingResearchWriting: The Semantic Web and the Future of the Research Project

In this essay, I explore one advancement in particular—the Semantic Web—and discuss ways in which it stands to change students’ interaction with information in digital spaces, and how new forms of interaction could impact the teaching of writing. I go back to the earliest days of the Web in order to remind readers how information retrieval has evolved in the digital age. I also provide a general discussion of the vision, current state, and possible futures of the Semantic Web, and I focus on how the Semantic Web might alter the research process and, more importantly, the research-writing relationship. I also offer suggestions for teaching composition in advance of and for the Semantic Web. Although the Semantic Web is still several years off, I contend that research and writing will merge into a single process, thus presenting new opportunities for the teaching of writing then and, perhaps more importantly, now. These opportunities include helping students to identify the challenges of information retrieval and overload, to see research as more about establishing links and connections between information sources and less about finding the “right” sources, and to write for the Semantic Web—and, in doing so, teach students that researching and writing are inseparable.
