The elaborate balance between the open-circuit voltage (VOC) and the short-circuit current density (JSC) is critical to ensure efficient organic solar cells (OSCs). Herein, the chalcogen containing branched chain engineering is employed to address this dilemma. Three novel nonfullerene acceptors (NFAs), named BTP-2O , BTP-O-S , and BTP-2S , featuring different peripheral chalcogen containing branched chains are synthesized. Compared with symmetric BTP-2O and BTP-2S grafting two alkoxy or alkylthio branched chains, the asymmetric BTP-O-S grafting one alkoxy and one alkylthio branched chains shows mediate absorption range, applicable miscibility, and favorable crystallinity. Benefiting from the enhanced π–π stacking and charge transport, an optimal power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 17.3% is obtained for the PM6: BTP-O-S -based devices, with a good balance between VOC (0.912 V) and JSC (24.5 mA cm−2), and a high fill factor (FF) of 0.775, which is much higher than those of BTP-2O (16.1%) and BTP-2S -based (16.4%) devices. Such a result represents one of the highest efficiencies among the binary OSCs with VOC surpassing 0.9 V. Moreover, the BTP-O-S -based devices fabricated by using green solvent yield a satisfactory PCE of 17.1%. This work highlights the synergistic effect of alkoxy and alkylthio branched chains for high-performance OSCs by alleviating voltage loss and enhancing FF.  相似文献

Two non-fullerene small molecule acceptors (TFQ-F and TFQ-Cl) based on quinoxaline unit were designed and synthesized for efficient organic solar cells (OSCs). These two acceptors showed intense absorption up to 900 nm and high thermal stabilities with decomposition temperatures over 360 °C due to their fused-ring skeletons. TFQ-F and TFQ-Cl are the A-D-A′-D-A type acceptors (A/A′ for acceptor unit and D for donor unit). TFQ-F and TFQ-Cl have the same D-A′-D fragment, which was flanked with different ending groups. The effect of different ending groups on their photophysical properties, electrochemical behaviors, micro-structures and charge recombination properties of active layers, and device performance were investigated systematically. PM6 with the complementary absorption to the two acceptors was used as the donor material. The pristine PM6:TFQ-F blend films displayed the optimal morphologies as revealed by AFM and TEM measurement. Organic solar cells based on PM6:TFQ-Cl blend film showed high JSC of 25.19 mA/cm2 and PCE of 13.2%. The Voc, JSC and PCE for PM6:TFQ-F film based device were 0.857 V, 23.70 mA/cm2 and 13.51%, respectively. The dependence of VOC/JSC on various light intensities indicated that PM6:TFQ-F/Cl based device had low charge recombination.  相似文献

Lead chalcogenide quantum dot (QD) infrared (IR) solar cells are promising devices for breaking through the theoretical efficiency limit of single-junction solar cells by harvesting the low-energy IR photons that cannot be utilized by common devices. However, the device performance of QD IR photovoltaic is limited by the restrictive relation between open-circuit voltages (VOC) and short circuit current densities (JSC), caused by the contradiction between surface passivation and electronic coupling of QD solids. Here, a strategy is developed to decouple this restriction via epitaxially coating a thin PbS shell over the PbSe QDs (PbSe/PbS QDs) combined with in situ halide passivation. The strong electronic coupling from the PbSe core gives rise to significant carrier delocalization, which guarantees effective carrier transport. Benefited from the protection of PbS shell and in situ halide passivation, excellent trap-state control of QDs is eventually achieved after the ligand exchange. By a fine control of the PbS shell thickness, outstanding IR JSC of 6.38 mA cm−2 and IR VOC of 0.347 V are simultaneously achieved under the 1100 nm-filtered solar illumination, providing a new route to unfreeze the trade-off between VOC and JSC limited by the photoactive layer with a given bandgap.  相似文献

56π-Electron fullerene derivatives with electron-withdrawing cyano groups were synthesized by the reaction of 58π-electron fullerenes with NaCN, followed by in situ treatment with TsCN or MeOTf. The fullerene derivatives have low-lying LUMO levels, which are comparable with or lower than that of pristine C60. They were used as solution-processable electron acceptors in small-molecule organic solar cells that showed a maximum power conversion efficiency of 2.0% (JSC = 7.05 mA/cm2, VOC = 0.62 V and FF = 0.45) using chloroindium phthalocyanine as an electron donor.  相似文献

Two small molecular organic materials denoted as ICT1 and ICT2 with A-D1-D2-D1-A architecture have been synthesized and their thermal, photo-physical, electrochemical and photovoltaic properties are explored. Synthesized materials have n-butylrhodanine acceptor (A), dithienopyrrole (DTP) (D1) and benzodithiophene (BDT) (D2) (Alkoxy BDT and alkylthiophene BDT, respectively for ICT1 and ICT2) donor moieties. Both the materials have good solubility (up to 25 mg/mL) in most common organic solvents and have excellent thermal stability with the decomposition temperature (Td) as 348 and 382 °C, respectively for ICT1 and ICT2. Both ICT1 and ICT2 have broad and intense visible region absorption (molar excitation coefficient is 1.71 × 105 and 1.65 × 105 mol−1 cm−1, respectively for ICT1 and ICT2) and have suitable HOMO and LUMO energy levels for PC71BM acceptor. Bulk heterojunction solar cells with ITO/PEDOT:PSS/blend/Al structure are fabricated using these materials. The BHJSCs fabricated by spin cast of ICT1:PC71BM and ICT2:PC71BM (1:2 wt ratio) blend from chloroform showed power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 2.77% (Jsc = 6.84 mA/cm2, Voc = 0.92 V and FF = 0.44) and 3.27% (Jsc = 7.26 mA/cm2, Voc = 0.96 V and FF = 0.47), respectively. Annealing the active layer significantly improved the PCE of these BHJSCs to 5.12% (Jsc = 10.15 mA/cm2, Voc = 0.87 V and FF = 0.58) and 5.90% (Jsc = 10.68 mA/cm2, Voc = 0.92 V and FF = 0.60), respectively for ICT1 and ICT2 donors. The enhancement in the PCE is due to higher light harvesting ability of the active layer, better nanoscale morphology for efficient and balanced charge transport and effective exciton dissociation at the donor-acceptor interface.  相似文献

The contradiction between enlarging the offset between energy levels of donor/acceptor and the required driving force for exciton split leads to a trade‐off between open circuit voltage (VOC) and short circuit current density (JSC), which is a big challenge for development of high performance polymer solar cells (PSCs). Some advanced works reported the PSCs with low photon energy loss (Eloss) and small driving force, but the correlation of molecular structures of light‐harvesting system and driving force is still unclear. In this work, a new alkylsilyl functionalized copolymer donor PBDS‐T (PBDST: poly[(2,6trialkylsilyl thiophen2yl)benzo[1,2b:4,5b′]dithiophene))alt(5,5(1′,3′di2thienyl5′,7′bis(2ethylhexyl)benzo[1′,2′c:4′,5′c′]dithiophene4,8dione))]) with low‐lying energy levels was designed for efficient PSCs. By monitoring the Photoluminescence quenching of the bulk and bilayer heterojunctions, small driving forces, ?EHOMO of 0.15 eV and ?ELUMO of 0.22 eV were founded to allow for efficient charge transfer, which were observed to correlate with the crystalline PBDS‐T and the optimal morphology in PBDS‐T:ITIC (ITIC: 3,9bis(2methylene(3(1,1dicyanomethylene)indanone))5,5,11,11tetrakis(4hexylphenyl)dithieno[2,3d:2′,3′d′]sindaceno[1,2b:5,6b′]dithiophene). Simultaneously improved VOC, JSC and small Eloss boosted the PCE over 11%, which is one of the highest values for annealing‐free device. These results shield a light on precise design of a light‐harvesting system with small driving force to simultaneously improve the VOC and JSC for highly efficient PSCs.  相似文献

Ternary organic photovoltaics (OPVs) were fabricated with two polymers (PM6 and D18) as the donor and the fullerene-free small molecule Y6 as the acceptor in an inverted structure. The blueshifted absorption spectrum of neat D18 relative to neat PM6 can enable harvesting of more short and medium wavelength photons in the ternary photoactive layer, which is beneficial to increasing the short-circuit current density (JSC). The enhancement of the open-circuit voltage (VOC) of the ternary OPVs can be explained by the deeper HOMO level of D18 than that of PM6, which is beneficial to broadening the energy bandgap. In addition, the combination of the cascade LUMO levels among D18, PM6 and Y6 and the enhanced crystallinity can lead to more efficient exciton dissociation and charge transport within the ternary films. As a result, the power conversion efficiency of the optimize ternary OPV is 15.85%, which is higher than those of the PM6:Y6- and D18:Y6-base binary OPVs (PCEs of 14.70% and 14.95%, respectively). The results indicate that ternary OPVs with a blend of two similar chemical structure polymers as the donor could achieve high performance by broadening the light spectrum and optimizing the phase separation and crystallinity.  相似文献

Introducing a third component into organic bulk heterojunction solar cells has become an effective strategy to improve photovoltaic performance. Meanwhile, the rapid development of non-fullerene acceptors (NFAs) has pushed the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of organic solar cells (OSCs) to a higher standard. Herein, a series of fullerene-free ternary solar cells are fabricated based on a wide bandgap acceptor, IDTT-M, together with a wide bandgap donor polymer PM6 and a narrow bandgap NFA Y6. Insights from the morphological and electronic characterizations reveal that IDTT-M has been incorporated into Y6 domains without disrupting its molecular packing and sacrificing its electron mobility and work synergistically with Y6 to regulate the packing pattern of PM6, leading to enhanced hole mobility and suppressed recombination. IDTT-M further functions as an energy-level mediator that increases open-circuit voltage (VOC) in ternary devices. In addition, efficient Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) between IDTT-M and Y6 provides a non-radiative pathway for facilitating exciton dissociation and charge collection. As a result, the optimized ternary device features a significantly improved PCE up to 16.63% with simultaneously enhanced short-circuit current (JSC), VOC, and fill factor (FF).  相似文献

Recently, organic–inorganic metal halide perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have achieved rapid improvement, however, the efficiencies are still behind the Shockley–Queisser theory mainly due to their high energy loss (ELOSS) in open-circuit voltage (VOC). Due to the polycrystalline nature of the solution-prepared perovskite films, defects at the grain boundaries as the non-radiative recombination centers greatly affect the VOC and limit the device efficiency. Herein, poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) is introduced as polymer-templates in the perovskite film, where the fluorine atoms in the PVDF network can form strong hydrogen-bonds with organic cations and coordinate bonds with Pb2+. The strong interaction between PVDF and perovksite enables slow crystal growth and efficient defect passivation, which effectively reduce non-radiation recombination and minimize ELOSS of VOC. PVDF-based PSCs achieve a champion efficiency of 24.21% with a excellent voltage of 1.22 V, which is one of the highest VOC values reported for FAMAPb(I/Br)3-based PSCs. Furthermore, the strong hydrophobic fluorine atoms in PVDF endow the device with excellent humidity stability, the unencapsulated solar cell maintain the initial efficiency of >90% for 2500 h under air ambient of ≈50% humid and a consistently high VOC of 1.20 V.  相似文献

Interdigitated back contact silicon heterojunction (IBC‐SHJ) solar cells have the potential for high open circuit voltage (VOC) due to the surface passivation and heterojunction contacts, and high short circuit current density (JSC) due to all back contact design. Intrinsic amorphous silicon (a‐Si:H) buffer layer at the rear surface improve the surface passivation hence VOC and JSC, but degrade fill factor (FF) from an “S” shape JV curve. Two‐dimensional (2D) simulation using “Sentaurus device” demonstrates that the low FF is related to the valence band offset (energy barrier) at the hetero‐interface. Three approaches to the buffer layer are suggested to improve the FF: (1) reduced thickness, (2) increased conductivity, and/or (3) reduced band gap. Experimental IBC‐SHJ solar cells with reduced buffer thickness (<5 nm) and increased conductivity with low boron doping significantly improves FF, consistent with simulation. However, this has only marginal effect on efficiency since JSC and VOC also decrease due to poor surface passivation. A narrow band gap a‐Si:H buffer layer improves cell efficiency to 13.5% with unoptimized passivation quality. These results demonstrate that tailoring the hetero‐interface band structure is critical for achieving high FF. Simulations predicts that efficiences >23% are possible on planar devices with optimized pitch dimensions and achievable surface passivation, and 26% with light trapping. This work provides criterion to design IBC‐SHJ solar cell structures and optimize cell performance. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The ternary blend system such as binary donor and an acceptor or binary acceptor and a donor offers a way to improve the power conversion efficiency of the polymer solar cells (PSCs) by enhancing optical properties and electrical properties. In this work, PTB7, PC71BM and Molybdenum disulfide nano-sheet (MoS2NS) ternary blend system were investigated as an active material for OPV. The optimized ternary blend system showed increment of 17% power conversion efficiency (PCE) from 6.98% to 8.18%. The origin of improved PCE mainly arises from the significant increment in JSC and marginal change in VOC and FF. This improved PCE is due to increased light harvesting and improved charge carrier mobility in the active matrix. The marginal enhancement in VOC and FF was correlated with the density of trap states (DOS) obtained from capacitance measurement of the device. The optical absorption and energy transfer mechanism of the ternary blend film is explained by absorption and photoluminescence measurement respectively. Further, the conversion efficiency due to improved charge carrier transport was described by modified SCLC mobility measurements for electron and hole only devices. The obtained result suggests that presence of MoS2NS along with PTB7:PC71BM binary system play dual role like an improved charge transport layer as well as light harvesting.  相似文献

To maximize the short‐circuit current density (JSC) and the open circuit voltage (VOC) simultaneously is a highly important but challenging issue in organic solar cells (OSCs). In this study, a benzotriazole‐based p‐type polymer (J61) and three benzotriazole‐based nonfullerene small molecule acceptors (BTA1‐3) are chosen to investigate the energetic driving force for the efficient charge transfer. The lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energy levels of small molecule acceptors can be fine‐tuned by modifying the end‐capping units, leading to high VOC (1.15–1.30 V) of OSCs. Particularly, the LUMO energy level of BTA3 satisfies the criteria for efficient charge generation, which results in a high VOC of 1.15 V, nearly 65% external quantum efficiency, and a high power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 8.25%. This is one of the highest VOC in the high‐performance OSCs reported to date. The results imply that it is promising to achieve both high JSC and VOC to realize high PCE with the carefully designed nonfullerene acceptors.  相似文献

Integrating a third component into the binary system is considered to be one of the most effective strategies to further enhance the power conversion efficiency (PCE) in organic solar cells (OSCs). Here, a novel perylene diimide (PDI) derivative featuring 3D structure, TPA-4PDI, with tetraphenyladamantane central core is developed as a guest electron acceptor to be incorporated into the PM6:Y6 binary system. The champion PCE of ternary OSC is recorded to be 18.29% by adding 7.5 wt.% of TPA-4PDI in the ternary blend, which photovoltaic performance is enhanced with synergistically increased open-circuit voltage (Voc) of 0.849 V, short-circuit current density (Jsc) of 27.55 mA cm−2, and fill factor (FF) of 78.21%. TPA-4PDI exhibits a complementary absorption band with PM6 and Y6 while its lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energy level falls between the two host materials. The addition of TPA-4PDI can effectively suppress the recombination behavior, inhibit the excessive aggregation of Y6 and improve the morphology of PM6:Y6 blend. All these effects function synergistically and then lead to the enhancement of Voc, Jsc, and FF in ternary OSCs. This study suggests that developing PDI derivatives as the third component is an effective method to further improve the performance of ternary OSCs.  相似文献

Non-fullerene acceptors have recently revolutionized indoor organic photovoltaics (OPVs) with power conversion efficiencies exceeding 30% in laboratory scale. Nevertheless, transferring their superior performance to larger-scale prototyping, i.e., air-processing via roll-to-roll compatible techniques, still shows severe challenges. Herein, the industrial potential of the PM6:IO4Cl blend, which is one of the most successful indoor OPV photoactive layers (PALs), is thoroughly investigated. The corresponding thick and semitransparent laminated devices are fabricated entirely in air, by blade and slot-die coating. Their current–voltage (J–V) characteristics show anomalous features depending on the illumination side, with the cathode side generally outperforming the anode counterpart. Electrical and optical modeling reveal that a plausible cause of such a phenomenon is a dead layer that forms at the PAL/anode contact interface that does not contribute to the photocurrent. Said layer becomes undetectable when the PALs are made thin enough (<35 nm each) leading to symmetric J–V curves and improved light utilization efficiency. By screening the photovoltaic performance of multiple donor:acceptor blends, certain all-polymer and polymer:fullerene PALs are identified as adequately symmetric candidates for thick device up-scaling. Finally, ternary blends based on PM6:IO4Cl:fullerene may constitute a viable route to mitigate the electrical asymmetry detected on conventional binary blends.  相似文献

New D–A–π–A carbazole dyes containing benzothiadiazole chromophores were designed and synthesized for application in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The light-harvesting capabilities and photovoltaic performance of these dyes were investigated systematically through comparison of different π-bridges and acceptors. Compared with thiophene bridge, benzene bridge provides improved IPCE and VOC, which leads to better photoelectricity conversion efficiency. Dyes with cyanoacetic acid acceptor display superior photovoltaic properties though with shorter absorption maximum and lower molar absorption coefficient compared with dyes with rhodanine acetic acid acceptor. Therefore, dye with benzene bridge and cyanoacetic acid acceptor shows the most efficient photoelectricity conversion efficiency and has the maximum η value of 5.40% (VOC = 710 mV, JSC = 10.99 mA/cm2, and ff = 0.71) under simulated AM 1.5 irradiation (100 mW/cm2).  相似文献

To further elevate the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of organic solar cells (OSCs), ternary strategy is one of the most efficient methods via simply incorporating a suitable third component. Here, a nonfullerene small molecule acceptor MOITIC was incorporated into the state-of-art PM6:Y6 binary system to further enhance the photovoltaic performance. Detailed investigation revealed that MOITIC exhibited a good miscibility and compatibility with Y6, forming alloy-like acceptors in the ternary blends. The alloy-like phase promoted the phase separation and optimized the morphology of ternary blend, which afforded higher and more balanced carrier mobility and reduced charge recombination in devices. Moreover, the larger energy offset between PM6 and MOITIC:Y6 acceptor alloy is beneficial to enhance open-circuit voltage (Voc) of corresponding devices. As a consequence, the optimized ternary OSC (PM6:Y6:MOITIC = 1:1:0.1) showed a significantly increased PCE of 17.1% with simultaneously enhanced Voc of 0.882 V, short-circuit current density (Jsc) of 25.6 mA cm−2, and fill factor (FF) of 75.7%, which has about 9% enhancement compared to the control binary PM6:Y6 (15.7%). In addition, the optimized ternary device exhibited better stability. This work indicates that ternary strategy via combining two compatible small molecule acceptors is effective to simultaneously improve the efficiency and stability of OSCs.  相似文献

Mixed 2D/3D perovskite solar cells (PSCs) show promising performances in efficiency and long-term stability. The functional groups terminated on a large organic molecule used to construct 2D capping layer play a key role in the chemical interaction mechanism and thus influence the device performance. In this study, 4-(trifluoromethyl) benzamidine hydrochloride (TFPhFACl) is adopted to construct 2D capping layer atop 3D perovskite. It is found that there are two mechanisms synergistically contributing to the increase of efficiency: 1) The TFPhFA+ cations form a dipole layer promoting the interfacial charge transport. 2) The suppressed nonradiative recombination of perovskite through the coordination of TFPhFA+ cations with Pb–I octahedron, as well as the recrystallization of 3D perovskite induced by Cl- ions. As a result, the PSC delivers an efficiency of 24.0% with improved open-circuit voltage (VOC) of 1.16 V, short-circuit current density (JSC) of 25.42 mA cm-2, and fill factor of 81.26%. The device shows no decrease in efficiency after 1500 h stored in the air indicating the good stability. The utilization of TFPhFACl not only provides a facile way to optimize the interfacial problems, but also gives a new perspective for rational design of large spacer molecule for constructing efficient 2D/3D PSCs.  相似文献

Three novel carbazole-based A-π-D-π-A-featured dyes (CSG1CSG3) have been designed, synthesized for applications in dye-sensitized solar cells and fully characterized with NMR, MS, IR, UV–vis and electrochemical measurements. These dyes share the same donor (N-hexylcarbazole) and acceptor/anchoring group (cyanoacrylic acid), but differs in conjugated linkers incorporated, such as benzene, furan or thiophene, to configure the novel A-π-D-π-A framework for effective electron flow. The power conversion efficiencies were observed to be sensitive to the π-bridging linker moiety. The photovoltaic experiments showed that dye with a benzene linker exhibited a higher open-circuit voltage (0.699 V) compared to thiophene and furan linker. Among all dyes, CSG2 containing a thiophene linker exhibited the maximum overall conversion efficiency of 3.8% (JSC = 8.90 mA cm−2, VOC = 584 mV, FF = 0.74) under standard global AM 1.5 G solar condition. Under similar fabrication conditions, champion dye N719 exhibited the maximum overall conversion efficiency of 6.4% (JSC = 14.74 mA cm2, VOC = 606 mV, FF = 0.716).  相似文献

We report the use of isobenzofulvene–C60 adducts in bulk heterojunction organic solar cells, synthesized via the [4 + 2] cycloaddition of C60 with an in situ generated isobenzofulvene intermediate. The LUMO energy levels of these adducts are 20–180 meV higher than that of PCBM ([6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester). This large increase of the LUMO level is attributed to cofacial π-orbital interactions between the fullerene surface and the isobenzofulvene π–system (aromatic ring and double bond). Raised LUMO levels of fullerenes, together with their desirably slow recombination dynamics, led to higher open-circuit voltages (VOC) in bulk heterojunction polymer solar cells (up to 0.75 V for bisadducts) relative to cells tested in parallel using the well-known PCBM as the fullerene acceptor. In addition to enhanced VOC, the short-circuit current densities (JSC) were improved in the devices containing the epoxide analogs of the isobenzofulvene–C60. Notably the epoxide derivative of the monoadduct (IBF–Ep) exhibited ∼20% enhancement of power conversion efficiency (PCE) compared to reference P3HT:PCBM solar cells. A combination of optical and electronic methods was used to investigate the origin of the PCE enhancement observed with these new fullerene acceptors with particular attention to the increased VOCs.  相似文献
