This paper presents a new control strategy for power factor correctors (PFCs) that are used to drive high-brightness LEDs. This control strategy is extremely simple and is based on the use of a conventional peak-current-mode controller with a suitable selection of the compensation ramp waveform. Neither an analog multiplier nor an input voltage sensor is needed to achieve quasi-sinusoidal line waveforms at nominal conditions and full load. If the converter belongs to the flyback family (flyback, buck–boost, SEPIC, Cuk and Zeta), the line waveform appears notably distorted if the compensation function is a linear ramp, but becomes almost sinusoidal if the linear ramp is substituted by a properly chosen exponential function. The line waveform is slightly distorted when the load varies or when the converter works under either overvoltage or undervoltage conditions. However, the waveform maintains a very high power factor (PF) even under these conditions. Moreover, the line current is cycle-by-cycle-controlled due to the peak-current-mode control, and hence, the input-current feedback loop is extremely fast, thereby allowing this type of control to be used with high-frequency lines (above 400 Hz).   相似文献

An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) with high power factor and two conversion stages is suggested. The double-conversion configuration has three stages, but normally, only two stages are operating at the same time. The first stage of the proposed scheme integrates the power-factor-correction stage and the battery charger of the double-conversion configuration, obtaining a two-stage UPS. The second stage is based on the theory of inverter with boosting capabilities. The battery set has not only been completely isolated, but it has also been charged with a small change at the controller set point; these particular characteristics facilitate the system maintenance and simplify its operation. Additionally, the battery-set voltage is low, reducing the weight and size. The converter operation, analysis, design, and experimental results are shown. The proposed UPS approach is practical in low-power applications ($leq 500$ W).   相似文献

It is shown that, in case of feeding loads with high levels of harmonic distortion, the RMS values of voltage and current no longer provide a reliable representation of the load, either in terms of its actual power efficiency or its tendency to introduce distortion. To cope with this sort of scenario, the use of a Power Utilization Factor (PUF), in addition to the usual Power Factor and Cos Phi, is suggested on analytical and experimental grounds. The use of the PUF enables a more reliable analysis of high distortion loads, as it better describes the relationship between the load and the power supply. Practical case studies are presented for a variety of loads, including the so called low consumption lamps, typical domestic loads (sorted as low consumption lamps, incandescent lamps, and common appliances) showing also the effect of these type of loads on step-down transformer. It is shown that the use of the PUF allows to keep track and quantify the relationship between distortion-producing loads and the ensuing distorted regulation of the electrical system.  相似文献

This paper presents a new single-stage power factor correction ac/dc converter based on a three-level half-bridge resonant converter topology. The proposed circuit integrates the operation of the boost power factor preregulator and the three-level resonant dc/dc converter. A variable-frequency asymmetrical pulsewidth modulation controller is proposed for this converter. This control technique is based on two integrated control loops: the output voltage is regulated by controlling the switching frequency of the resonant converter, whereas the dc-bus voltage and input current are regulated by means of duty cycle control of the boost part of the converter. This provides a regulated output voltage and a nearly constant dc-bus voltage regardless of the loading condition; this, in turn, allows using smaller switches and consequently having a lower on resistance helping to reduce conduction losses. Zero-voltage switching is also achieved for a wide range of loading and input voltage. The resulting circuit, therefore, has high conversion efficiency making it suitable for high-power wide-input-voltage-range applications. The effectiveness of this method is verified on a 2.3-kW 48-V converter with input voltage (90–265 Vrms).   相似文献

Grid-connected unity-power-factor converters based on one-cycle control (OCC) do not require the service of phase-locked loop or any other synchronization circuits for interfacing with the utility. As a result, these schemes are becoming increasingly popular. However, as the power handled by the converter increases, the power factor deteriorates. To understand quantitatively the cause of poor power factor while negotiating high power loads, large signal models for these schemes are developed. Having understood the cause for poor power factor operation, a modified-OCC-based converter is proposed. This scheme has high power factor while supplying high power loads. Detailed simulation studies are carried out to verify the efficacy of the scheme. In order to confirm the viability of the scheme, detailed experimental studies are carried out on a 3-kW laboratory prototype.  相似文献

In this paper, a repetitive-based controller for a boost-based power factor precompensator is presented. The controller guarantees voltage regulation with a power factor close to unity, despite of the presence of harmonic distortion in the source voltage and uncertainties in the system parameters. It is shown that the repetitive scheme considered here is, in fact, equivalent to a bank of resonant filters, which has shown to be a useful technique in harmonic compensation. Out of this equivalence, a negative feedback structure is obtained for the repetitive scheme which is aimed for the compensation of odd harmonics only. This is in contrast to usual positive feedback repetitive schemes aimed to compensate for all harmonic components. The repetitive scheme consists on a simple feedback array involving a time delay plus a feedforward path, which is simple to implement. The closed-loop stability analysis of such and infinite-dimensional system is performed appealing to the well-known small gain theorem. Experimental results in a 400-W boost-based power factor compensator (PFC), with a fixed-point digital signal processor (DSP)-based implementation of the proposed controller, are provided to assess the performance of the controlled system.  相似文献
