Purpose Increased T2 signal intensity (SI) can be regularly observed in myocardial infarction. However, there are controversial reports
about the relationship of elevated T2 SI to myocardial viability and some authors propose that high T2 SI serves as a sign
of irreversible myocardial injury. This study investigates increased T2 SI compared to myocardial function in patients with
reperfused subacute myocardial infarction. Preserved function was used as criterion for viability.
Methods Ten healthy volunteers and 17 patients with myocardial infarction and patent inlarct related coronary artery were examined
on a 1.5 T Magnetom Vision system (Siemens). For T2-weighted MR imaging a breath-hold STIR sequence with dark-blood preparation
was used. Cine FLASH 2D imaging was applied to assess myocardial function. Signal-to-noise (S/N) in STIR T2 images was measured
in normal and infarcted regions and subsequently identified by two independent observers. Based on a 20 segment model of the
left ventricle findings were compared to regional myocardial function.
Results Elevated STIR T2 SI was found in all 17 patients and observed in 27% (204/754) of segments. S/N of normal myocardium was 5.1
±0.7 in volunteers and 4.9 ± 0.8 in patients(P=NS). Infarcted myocardium presented with significantly-increased S/N 12.8 ± 1.9 (P < 0.0001). Significant transmural elevation of T2 SI was noted in 32% of segments with preserved systolic function.
Conclusion Increased STIR T2 SI can be observed transmurally in post-ischemic myocardial regions with preserved function. It therefore
cannot be used as an exclusive marker for the non-viable region. 相似文献

In this paper we introduce an improved harmonic phase (HARP) analysis for complementary spatial modulation of magnetization (CSPAMM) tagging of the mouse left ventricular wall, which enables the determination of regional displacement fields with the same resolution as the corresponding CINE anatomical images. CINE MRI was used to measure global function, such as the ejection fraction. The method was tested on two healthy mouse hearts and two mouse hearts with a myocardial infarction, which was induced by a ligation of the left anterior descending coronary artery. We show that the regional displacement fields can be determined. The mean circumferential strain for the left ventricular wall of one of the healthy mice was –0.09 ± 0.04 (mean ± standard deviation), while for one of the infarcted mouse hearts strains of –0.02 ± 0.02 and –0.10 ± 0.03 were found in the infarcted and remote regions, respectively. 相似文献

Object
The aim of this study was to determine the impact to PET quantification, image quality and possible diagnostic impact of an anterior surface array used in a combined PET/MR imaging system.Materials and methods
An extended oval phantom and 15 whole-body FDG PET/CT subjects were re-imaged for one bed position following placement of an anterior array coil at a clinically realistic position. The CT scan, used for PET attenuation correction, did not include the coil. Comparison, including liver SUVmean, was performed between the coil present and absent images using two methods of PET reconstruction. Due to the time delay between PET scans, a model was used to account for average physiologic time change of SUV.Results
On phantom data, neglecting the coil caused a mean bias of ?8.2 % for non-TOF/PSF reconstruction, and ?7.3 % with TOF/PSF. On clinical data, the liver SUV neglecting the coil presence fell by ?6.1 % (±6.5 %) for non-TOF/PSF reconstruction; respectively ?5.2 % (±5.3 %) with TOF/PSF. All FDG-avid features seen with TOF/PSF were also seen with non-TOF/PSF reconstruction.Conclusion
Neglecting coil attenuation for this anterior array coil results in a small but significant reduction in liver SUVmean but was not found to change the clinical interpretation of the PET images. 相似文献4.
OBJECTIVE: In the field of cardiac MR image segmentation, active contour models, or snakes have been extensively used, owing to their promising results and to the numerous extensions proposed to improve their performance. This paper explores a methodology for evaluating cardiac MR image segmentation algorithms, which assesses the distance between computer-generated and the observer's hand-outlined boundaries. This metric was applied to various external force extensions of the traditional snake, since no systematic comparison has been performed. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Cardiac MRI from six patients were analyzed. Imaging was performed on a 1.5 T MR scanner with ECG-gated balanced steady-state free precession (b-SSFP) sequences. Segmentation performances were established for traditional snake, gradient vector flow snake, standard- and guided- pressure force-based snake. The use of a pre-treatment with non-linear anisotropic filtering was also compared to non-filtered images. RESULTS: Agreement between manual and segmentation algorithms was satisfactory for ejection fraction for every segmentation scheme. However end-systolic and end-diastolic volumes were systematically underestimated. CONCLUSION: The developed regional error metric provided a more rigorous evaluation of the segmentation schemes in comparison to the classical derived parameters based on left ventricle volume estimation, usually used in functional cardiac MR studies. Objective
To investigate the effect of water suppression on the hepatic lipid quantification, using the LCModel.Materials and methods
MR spectra with and without water suppression were acquired in the liver of mice at 4.7 T and patients at 3 T, and processed with the LCModel. The Cramér–Rao Lower Bound (CRLB) values of the seven lipid resonances were determined to assess the impact of water suppression on hepatic lipid quantification. A paired t test was used for comparison between the CRLBs obtained with and without water suppression.Results
For the preclinical data, in the high (low) fat fraction subset an overall impairment in hepatic lipid quantification, i.e. an increase of CRLBs (no significant change of CRLBs) was observed in spectra acquired with water suppression. For the clinical data, there were no substantial changes in the CRLB with water suppression. Because (1) the water suppression does not overall improve the quantification of the lipid resonances and (2) the MR spectrum without water suppression is always acquired for fat fraction calculation, the optimal data-acquisition strategy for liver MRS is to acquire only the MR spectrum without water suppression.Conclusion
For quantification of hepatic lipid resonances, it is advantageous to perform MR spectroscopy without water suppression in a clinical and preclinical scenario (at moderate fields).6.

Excellent inherent tissue contrast is one of the great promises of clinical magnetic resonance (MR) imaging, but functional
information is relatively limited. However, MR imaging complemented by the administration of contrast agents can provide such
functional assessment. The perfusion status of the myocardium is one of the most important functional information in cardiovascular
imaging. Because the clinical acceptance of a contrast agent is measured by its ability to improve patient outcome and to
guide therapy, it is unlikely that detection of myocardial infarction, the final stage of ischemic heart disease, should be
the target for contrast media development. It would obviously be better if occult regional myocardial perfusion deficits could
be reliably detected. The current article was prepared to help the clinical radiologist to keep pace with new strategies for
myocardial enhancement and their potential clinical applicability for detection of early perfusion deficits.
Several techniques for noninvasive measurement of myocardial perfusion are currently evolving which have the potential to
be introduced into routine MR imaging. Most investigators favor a first-pass analysis of the contrast agent bolus through
the myocardium using ultrafast sequences. However, such a technique may require clinical introduction of a blood pool agent.
There are good resons to favorT
1-weighted sequences over susceptibility imaging in such first-pass studies. In the future, assessment of myocardial perfusion
status using contrast-enhanced MR imaging may be done producing perfusion maps with high spatial resolution (e.g., 256×128),
with sequences available on most scanners without special hardware requirements (e.g., IR-Turboflash, keyhole imaging), and

In this brief review, introductory concepts in animal and human adipose tissue segmentation using proton magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography are summarized in the context of obesity research. Adipose tissue segmentation and quantification using spin relaxation-based (e.g., T1-weighted, T2-weighted), relaxometry-based (e.g., T1-, T2-, T2*-mapping), chemical-shift selective, and chemical-shift encoded water–fat MRI pulse sequences are briefly discussed. The continuing interest to classify subcutaneous and visceral adipose tissue depots into smaller sub-depot compartments is mentioned. The use of a single slice, a stack of slices across a limited anatomical region, or a whole body protocol is considered. Common image post-processing steps and emerging atlas-based automated segmentation techniques are noted. Finally, the article identifies some directions of future research, including a discussion on the growing topic of brown adipose tissue and related segmentation considerations. 相似文献

Objective
Among other neuroimaging techniques, functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) can be useful for studying the development of motor fatigue. The aim of this study was to identify differences in cortical neuronal activation in nine subjects on three motor tasks: right-hand movement with minimum, maximum, and post-fatigue maximum finger flexion.Materials and methods
fMRI activation maps for each subject and during each condition were obtained by estimating the optimal model of the hemodynamic response function (HRF) out of four standard HRF models and an individual-based HRF model (ibHRF).Results
ibHRF was selected as the optimal model in six out of nine subjects for minimum movement, in five out of nine for maximum movement, and in eight out of nine for post-fatigue maximum movement. As compared to maximum movement, a large reduction in the total number of active voxels (primary sensorimotor area, supplementary motor area and cerebellum) was observed in post-fatigue maximum movement.Conclusion
This is the first approach to the evaluation of long-lasting contraction effort in healthy subjects by means of the fMRI paradigm with the use of an individual-based hemodynamic response. We previously demonstrated stability of ventricular volumes and cardiac function in normal and in chronically failing mouse hearts in MR systems with a vertical-bore magnet for up to 1 h. However, in order to exploit the benefits of an increased magnetic field strength of these MR systems in more time-consuming studies required by, for example MR spectroscopy, we investigated whether cardiac function and ventricular volumes of healthy and infarcted mice would be affected in vertical position over a prolonged period. We applied high-resolution MR cine imaging on an 11.7 T vertical MR system to monitor cardiac functional parameters of normal and chronically failing mouse hearts over a period of 3 h in an upright position, with a temporal resolution of 15 min. We monitored left-ventricular volumes and cardiac functional parameters in both groups. In normal mice, we detected a decrease of left-ventricular end-systolic volumes by 8 l and an approximately 23% increase of ejection fraction over time indicating a small but detectable degree of orthostatic dysregulation. Observed changes were more pronounced in mice with heart failure. Despite significant changes in left-ventricular volumes and function, absolute values measured for all functional cardiac parameters are consistent with near-physiological conditions. Thus, mice can be studied in high-field MR systems positioned vertically for 3 h. 相似文献

Objectives
Reproducibility of myocardial contour determination in cardiac magnetic resonance imaging is important, especially when determining T2* values per myocardial segment as a prognostic factor of heart failure or thalassemia. A method creating a composite image with contrasts optimized for drawing myocardial contours is introduced and compared with the standard method on a single image.Materials and methods
A total of 36 short-axis slices from bright-blood multigradient echo (MGE) T2* scans of 21 patients were acquired at eight echo times. Four observers drew free-hand myocardial contours on one manually selected T2* image (method 1) and on one image composed by blending three images acquired at TEs providing optimum contrast-to-noise ratio between the myocardium and its surrounding regions (method 2).Results
Myocardial contouring by method 2 met higher interobserver reproducibility than method 1 (P < 0.001) with smaller Coefficient of variance (CoV) of T2* values in the presence of myocardial iron accumulation (9.79 vs. 15.91 %) and in both global myocardial and mid-ventricular septum regions (12.29 vs. 16.88 and 5.76 vs. 8.16 %, respectively).Conclusion
The use of contrast-optimized composite images in MGE data analysis improves reproducibility of myocardial contour determination, leading to increased consistency in the calculated T2* values enhancing the diagnostic impact of this measure of iron overload.13.
Purpose: This retrospective study was undertaken to investigate the morphologic and dynamic features of in situ and minimally invasive breast cancer on contrast-enhanced (c.-e.) MR imaging and to examine possible associations to pathology features. Material and methods: A total of 71 patients underwent MR imaging. T1-weighted FLASH-3D images were obtained before and after intravenous administration of Gd-DTPA. Histopathologic analysis of 78 lesions revealed ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS)n=50 and DCIS with microinvasionn=28. MR features were correlated with histopathologic findings. Results: Enhancement in DCIS was focal (73%), diffuse (10%) or ductal (17%). No enhancement occurred in two cases (4%). In 65% enhancement speed was classified as delayed. There was a tendency toward a more ill-defined (83 vs. 43%) enhancement pattern in high grade DCIS and a more ductal (29 vs. 12%) and faster (50 vs. 29%) enhancement in comedo type DCIS. However, significant differences in the enhancement behaviour could neither be demonstrated between high grade and non high grade DCIS nor between comedo and non comedo type DCIS. No significant differences were noted between pure and microinvasive DCIS. Conclusion: In this retrospective analysis the majority (96%) of DCIS lesions show contrast enhancement. However, in only about 50% of DCIS the criteria of a so-called ‘typical’ enhancement behaviour was fulfilled, that means strong, early, focal ill-circumscribed or ductal. Enhancement that follows a duct is often associated with malignancy, however this feature was only present in 17% of the cases. c.-e. MR imaging allowed the detection of 25 additional foci of DCIS. Therefore malignant in situ lesions can be present with atypical enhancement, and should be taken into consideration in high-risk patients in particular. 相似文献

Echo-planar imaging (EPI) can be used to produce snapshot images of the human stomach and antro-pyloro-duodenal segment in real time as an alternative technique to intubation and exposure to ionizing radiation. The method has been further developed to monitor simultaneous gastric motility and gastric emptying of liquid and solid meals. The model has been utilized to study the effects of pharmacological agents on gastric function.Eight normal subjects were imaged in a 0.5-T superconducting magnet for up to 6 h following ingestion of 800 ml tap water, followed by 500 ml porridge test meal + 500 ml tap water. A rapid multislice technique was adopted to image adjacent transverse slices (10 mm thick) through the gastric region. In addition, three subjects were orally dosed with 20 mg of the prokinetic agent Cisapride. Gastric volumes for each slice were calculated and summed to produce a measure of total gastric volume and gastric emptying. Contractile activity at the level of the antro-pyloric segment was detected using sequential 128 ms images at 3 s intervals. Alternate measurements of gastric volume and motility were made for the duration of the study.Gastric emptyingT
1/2's (times to empty 50% of the gastric contents) of 12.9 min for water and 116 min for porridge were in agreement with results obtained by the traditional techniques of gamma scintigraphy and impedance imaging. The frequency of gastric contractions increased from 2.4 contractions per minute (cpm) to 3.2 cpm following water and from 2.9 to 3.2 cpm following porridge. The prokinetic effect of enhanced coordination of antroduodenal contractions was also observed. These studies have demonstrated that EPI can be used to detect and image gastroduodenal function in man, totally noninvasively, and can be used to study the effects of drugs acting on the gastrointestinal tract. 相似文献

Diffusion-weighted and susceptibility-contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging were used to monitor the development of focal ischemia in cat brain. Diffusion-sensitized imaging was used to assess early ischemic tissue damage which was confirmed for the latest time point (12 h) with postmortem histological analysis.T*2-sensitized FLASH was used to measure the first passage of a bolus of FeO particles. Gamma function fitting of R*2-time curves resulted in 2D maps of relative hemodynamic parameters, including cerebral blood volume and flow. The effect of stimulation waveform on pattern perception was investigated on a 49-point fingertip-scanned electrotactile (electrocutaneous) display. Waveform variables burst frequency (F), number of pulses per burst (NPB), and pulse repetition rate (PRR) were varied in a factorial design. Contrast reduction was used to limit performance of perceiving a 1-tactor gap defined within a 3 /spl times/ 3 tactor outline square. All three variables accounted for significant variations in performance with higher levels of F and NPB and lower levels of PRR, leading to better performance. In addition, we collected qualitative data on each waveform, and the qualitative differences were related to performance (e.g., waveforms perceived as having a more localized sensation were correlated with better pattern identification performance than those waveforms perceived as more broad). This paper describes the dependence of the charging characteristics on the electric field distribution on the alumina (Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/) surface as affected by the triple junction in vacuum. For HV electrical insulation design of vacuum interrupter, surface flashover in vacuum is very important problem to be solved. Attention should be paid to the fact that the insulation characteristics on the dielectric surface are strongly influenced by field emission of electrons from the triple junction and the accumulated charges on the dielectric surface. In order to clarify the charging mechanism, we measured the charging characteristics for various types of triple junctions. In particular, we focused on the influence of the electric field distribution along the solid dielectrics and near the cathode triple junction (CTJ) on the charging characteristics. The results confirmed that the electric field distribution strongly affected the 2-dimensional (2D) distribution of the surface charge on the dielectric sample. Consequently, it was found that positive charging was generated on alumina, when the incident angle of the electric line of force on the alumina surface became >60/spl deg/. 相似文献

本文研究了低温黑暗环境下冰箱内胆HIPS(高抗冲聚苯乙烯,high impact polystyrene,简称HIPS)板材的臭氧老化性能,探讨了臭氧用于冰箱杀菌时HIPS材料的耐老化可行性。结果表明,在5℃及40mg/m^3的臭氧浓度下,对HIPS连续熏蒸30日,HIPS板材的老化作用不很显著,板材的冲击强度与热变形温度仅发生轻微下降,拉伸强度下降约10~20%.断裂伸长率下降约15~35%;HIPS的力学性能维持率随板材厚度的增加而提高;HIPS可在低温低浓度的臭氧环境中使用。 相似文献
