The prototype of a novel silica gel–water adsorption chiller is built and its performance is tested in detail. The experimental results show that the refrigerating capacity (RC) and COP of the chiller are 7.15 and 0.38 kW, respectively, when the hot water temperature is 84.8 °C, the cooling water temperature is 30.6 °C, and the chilled water outlet temperature is 11.7 °C. The RC will reach 6 kW under the condition of 65 °C hot water temperature, 30.5 °C cooling water temperature and 17.6 °C chilled water temperature. The results confirm that this kind of adsorption chiller is an effective refrigerating machine though its performance is not as fine as the prediction results. Also it is well effectively driven by a low-grade heat source. Therefore, its applications to the low-grade heat source are much attractive.  相似文献

A novel silica gel–water adsorption chiller is designed and its performance is predicted in this work. This adsorption chiller includes three vacuum chambers: two adsorption/desorption (or evaporation/condensation) vacuum chambers and one heat pipe working vacuum chamber as the evaporator. One adsorber, one condenser and one evaporator are housed in the same chamber to constitute an adsorption/desorption unit. The evaporators of two adsorption/desorption units are combined together by a heat-pipe heat exchanger to make continuous refrigerating capacity. In this chiller, a vacuum valve is installed between the two adsorption/desorption vacuum chambers to increase its performance especially when the chiller is driven by a low temperature heat source. The operating reliability of the chiller rises greatly because of using fewer valves. Furthermore, the performance of the chiller is predicted. The simulated results show that the refrigerating capacity is more than 10 kW under a typical working condition with hot water temperature of 85 °C, the cooling water temperature of 31 °C and the chilled water inlet temperature of 15 °C. The COP exceeds 0.5 even under a heat source temperature of 65 °C.  相似文献

Experimental investigation of mass recovery adsorption refrigeration cycle   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The study investigates the performance of silica gel–water adsorption refrigeration cycle with mass recovery process by experimental prototype machine. In an adsorption refrigeration cycle, the pressures in adsorber and desorber are different. The mass recovery cycle utilizes the pressure difference to enhance the refrigerant mass circulation. Moreover, novel cycle was proposed for improvement of cooling output. In our previous study, simulation analysis shows that mass recovery cycle has the advantage over conventional single-stage. Experiments with prototype machine were conducted to investigate the performance improvement of mass recovery cycle in the present paper. Specific cooling power (SCP) and coefficient of performance (COP) were calculated with experimental data to analyze the influences of operating conditions. The proposed cycle was compared with the single-stage cycle in terms of SCP and COP. The results show that SCP of mass recovery cycle is superior to that of conventional cycle and mass recovery cycle is effective with low temperature heat source.  相似文献

A newly developed adsorption water chiller is introduced and tested. In the new adsorption refrigeration system, there are no refrigerant valves, the problem of mass transfer resistance resulting in pressure drop along refrigerant passage in conventional systems when methanol or water is used as refrigerant can be absolutely solved. Silica-gel–water is used as working pair and mass recovery-like process is adopted in order to use low temperature heat source ranging from 70 to 85 °C effectively. The experiment results demonstrate that the chiller (26.4 kg silica-gel in each adsorber) has a cooling capacity of 2–7.3 kW and COP ranging 0.2–0.42 according to different evaporating temperatures. Based on the experimental tests of the first prototype, the second prototype is designed and tested; the experimental data demonstrate that the chiller performance has been greatly improved, with a heat source temperature of 80 °C, a COP over 0.5 and cooling capacity of 9 kW has been achieved at evaporating temperature of 13 °C.  相似文献

In this paper, a transient model of a silica gel–water adsorption chiller, which is developed in Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), is developed in order to simulate the evaporating, condensing, and adsorption temperature. Furthermore, this model is verified by a series of experiments. The theoretical studies and experimental data show that the coefficient of performance (COP) is influenced significantly by the variation rates of the heat source temperatures. The results also show that when this chiller is driven by solar energy, a buffer tank should be adopted in the system in order to get better performance when solar insolation is low, and should not be utilized when solar insolation is high, otherwise low COP will be gotten for the reason of the consumption of high electric energy.  相似文献

The performance of a two-stage adsorption chiller with different mass allocation between upper and bottom beds has been investigated numerically. It is found that the chiller can be driven effectively by the waste heat of temperature 55 °C with the heat sink at environment temperature. Results show that cooling capacity can be improved with the optimum allocation of adsorbent mass to the bottom beds than that to the upper beds. The improvement in Coefficient of Performance (COP) values, however, is less significant. It is also seen that the improvement in cooling capacity is more significant for the relatively higher heat source temperature. It is shown that the cooling capacity can be improved up to 20% if the heat source temperature is 80 °C and the average outlet temperature is fixed at 7 °C.  相似文献

This paper presents the results of a predictive two-dimensional mathematical model of an adsorption cooling machine consisting of a double consolidated adsorbent bed with internal heat recovery. The results of a base-case, taken as a reference, demonstrated that the COP of the double bed adsorption refrigeration cycle increases with respect to the single bed configuration. However, it was verified that, in order to maximize also the specific power of the machine, the adsorbent beds must have proper thermo-physical properties.Consequently, a sensitivity analysis was carried out, studying the influence of the main heat and mass transfer parameters on the performance of the machine. The results obtained allowed us to define the adsorbent bed design that maximizes its heat and mass transfer properties, as well as the most profitable heat recovery conditions.  相似文献

Energy and exergy models for ideal adsorption cycles with isothermal beds and no mass recovery are developed to predict the limits to COP enhancement using thermal regeneration. The models are applied to compare the performance of zeolite–water and silica gel–water adsorbent–refrigerant pairs over a range of maximum bed temperatures. The thermodynamic consistencies of several alternate adsorption property assumptions are quantified. Differences in adsorption characteristics between zeolite–water and silica gel–water result in a significantly larger potential to enhance COP by implementing thermal regeneration for zeolite–water. Based on COP, the zeolite–water pair is preferred when both thermal regeneration and a high temperature thermal energy source (>150 °C) are used, while the silica gel–water pair is preferred when thermal regeneration is not used and/or a low temperature thermal energy source (<100 °C) is used.  相似文献

We experimentally show that for the same heat exchanger inventory allocation, a four-bed adsorption chiller delivers a 12% higher ultimate cooling capacity than its two-bed counterpart. In addition it delivers a significantly improved quality of instantaneous cooling than a two-bed chiller at the same cooling capacity. The COP-enhancing feature of a passive heat recovery scheme that does not involve additional pumping action or valves is experimentally proven. It improves the COPs of a two-bed chiller and a four-bed chiller by as much as 38 and 25%, respectively, without any effect on their cooling capacities. The highest COPs achieved with a two-bed and four-bed chillers are 0.46±0.02 and 0.45±0.02, respectively. These are measured at a hot-water inlet temperature of 85 °C, cooling-water inlet temperature of 29.4 °C and chilled-water inlet temperature of 12.2 °C.  相似文献

A multi-bed regenerative adsorption chiller design is proposed. The concept aims to extract the most enthalpy from the low-grade waste heat before it is purged into the drain. It is also able to minimise the chilled water temperature fluctuation so that downstream temperature smoothing device may be downsized or even eliminated in applications where tighter temperature control may be required. The design also avoids a master-and-slave configuration so that materials invested are not under-utilised. Because of the nature of low-grade waste heat utilization, the performance of adsorption chillers is measured in terms of the recovery efficiency, η instead of the conventional COP. For the same waste heat source flowrate and inlet temperature, a four-bed chiller generates 70% more cooling capacity than a typical two-bed chiller. A six-bed chiller in turn generates 40% more than that of a four-bed chiller. Since the beds can be triggered into operation sequentially during start-up, the risk of ice formation in the evaporator during start-up is greatly reduced compared with that of a two-bed chiller.  相似文献

Over the past few decades there have been considerable efforts to use adsorption (solid/vapor) for cooling and heat pump applications, but intensified efforts were initiated only since the imposition of international restrictions on the production and utilization of CFCs and HCFCs. In this paper, a dual-mode silica gel–water adsorption chiller design is outlined along with the performance evaluation of the innovative chiller. This adsorption chiller utilizes effectively low-temperature solar or waste heat sources of temperature between 40 and 95 °C. Two operation modes are possible for the advanced chiller. The first operation mode will be to work as a highly efficient conventional chiller where the driving source temperature is between 60 and 95 °C. The second operation mode will be to work as an advanced three-stage adsorption chiller where the available driving source temperature is very low (between 40 and 60 °C). With this very low driving source temperature in combination with a coolant at 30 °C, no other cycle except an advanced adsorption cycle with staged regeneration will be operational. The drawback of this operational mode is its poor efficiency in terms of cooling capacity and COP. Simulation results show that the optimum COP values are obtained at driving source temperatures between 50 and 55 °C in three-stage mode, and between 80 and 85 °C in single-stage, multi-bed mode.  相似文献

This article develops an improved lump-parameter design model to investigate the water-circulation heat recovery scheme as applied to the two-bed silica gel–water adsorption chillers. We demonstrate that performance predictions stemming from this improved lump-parameter formalism compare favorably with experimental results at various conditions, particularly at the industrial rated conditions. We find that the present lump-parameter formalism adequately elucidates the water-circulation heat recovery scheme as does the distributed-parameter formalism. In the studied working condition of a two-bed silica gel–water adsorption chiller, the differences in cooling capacities and coefficients of performance (or COP) by using the two different formalisms are typically less than 10%. This gives rise to a useful and rapid design tool for the industry.  相似文献

Two adsorption systems are considered: zeolite–water and activated carbon–methanol, both consisting of two ‘uniform temperature' adsorbent beds operating with internal heat recovery by a heat carrier circuit. Regarding the zeolite–water system, the performance obtained with a new adsorbent bed, with good heat transfer properties, is compared with a traditional tube and fin exchanger embedded with zeolite pellets. The performances were calculated by using a dynamic model developed and validated previously. Results show that the system based on the new adsorber has a higher specific power and the same Coefficient of Performance. Results of simulation for adsorbers consisting of finned tube heat exchangers and utilising the activated carbon–methanol pair are also presented.  相似文献

An experimental investigation of the performance of a micro-combined cooling, heating and power (CCHP) system is described. The natural gas and LPG-fired micro-CCHP system uses a small-scale generator set driven by a gas engine and a new small-scale adsorption chiller, which has a rated electricity power of 12 kW, a rated cooling of 9 kW and a rated heating capacity of 28 kW. Silica gel–water is used as working pair in the adsorption cooling system. The refrigeration COP of the adsorption chiller is over 0.3 for 13 °C evaporation temperature. The test facility designed and built is described, which supplies better test-rig platform for cooling, heating and power cogeneration. Experimental methodology of this system is presented and the results are discussed. An energetic analysis of micro-CCHP system is performed as well. The overall thermal and electrical efficiency is over 70%.  相似文献

A theoretical study of a novel regenerative ejector refrigeration cycle   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
There has been a demand for developments of the ejector refrigeration systems using low grade thermal energy, such as solar energy and waste heat. In this paper, a novel regenerative ejector refrigeration cycle was described, which uses an auxiliary jet pump and a conventional regenerator to enhance the performance of the novel cycle. The theoretical analysis on the performance characteristics was carried out for the novel cycle with the refrigerant R141b. Compared with the conventional cycle, the simulation results show that the coefficient of performance (COP) of the novel cycle increases, respectively, by from 9.3 to 12.1% when generating temperature is in a range of 80–160 °C, the condensing temperature is in a range of 35–45 °C and the evaporating temperature is fixed at 10 °C. Especially due to the enhanced regeneration with increasing the pump outlet pressure, the improvement of COP of the novel cycle is approached to 17.8% compared with that in the conventional cycle under the operating condition that generating temperature is 100 °C, condensing temperature is 40 °C and evaporating temperature is 10 °C. Therefore, the characteristics of the novel cycle performance show its promise in using low grade thermal energy for the ejector refrigeration system.  相似文献

The study investigates the performance of two-bed, silica gel-water adsorption refrigeration cycle with mass recovery process. The cycle with mass recovery can be driven by the relatively low temperature heat source. In an adsorption refrigeration cycle, the pressures in adsorber and desorber are different. The chiller with mass recovery process utilizes the pressure difference to enhance the refrigerant mass circulation. Cooling capacity and coefficient of performance (COP) were calculated by cycle simulation computer program to analyze the influences of operating conditions. The mass recovery cycle was compared with conventional cycle such as the single stage adsorption cycle in terms of cooling capacity and COP. The results show that the cooling capacity of mass recovery cycle is superior to that of conventional cycle and the mass recovery process is more effective for low regenerating temperature.  相似文献

Thermal heat driven adsorption systems using natural refrigerants have been focused on the recent energy utilization trend. However, the drawbacks of these adsorption systems are their poor performance in terms of system cooling capacity and coefficient of performance (COP). The objective of this paper is to improve the performance of thermally powered adsorption cooling system by selecting new adsorbent–refrigerant pair. Adsorption capacity of adsorbent–refrigerant pair depends on the thermophysical properties (pore size, pore volume and pore diameter) of adsorbent and isothermal characteristics of the pair. In this paper, the thermophysical properties of two PAN types of activated carbon fibers (FX-400 and KF-1000) are determined from the nitrogen adsorption isotherms. The standard nitrogen gas adsorption/desorption measurements on various adsorbents at liquid nitrogen of temperature 77.3 K were performed. Surface area of each adsorbent was determined by the Brunauer, Emmett and Teller (BET) plot of nitrogen adsorption data. Pore size distribution was measured by the Horvath and Kawazoe (HK) method. As of the adsorption/desorption isotherms, FX-400 shows very small hysteresis when the value of P/Po exceeds 0.4, while KF-1000 has no hysteresis in the whole range of P/Po. The adsorption capacity of FX-400 is about 30% higher than that of KF-1000. The adsorption equilibrium data of activated carbon fiber (ACF)-methanol are presented and correlated with simple equations. The adsorption equilibrium data of ACF (KF-1000)-water also presented in order to facilitate comparison with those of ACFs-methanol pair. The results will contribute significantly in designing the adsorber/desorber heat exchanger for thermally driven adsorption cooling system.  相似文献

A new combined power and refrigeration cycle is proposed for the cogeneration, which combines the Rankine cycle and the ejector refrigeration cycle by adding an extraction turbine between heat recovery vapor generator (HRVG) and ejector. This combined cycle could produce both power output and refrigeration output simultaneously, and could be driven by the flue gas from gas turbine or engine, solar energy, geothermal energy and industrial waste heats. Parametric analysis and exergy analysis are conducted to examine the effects of thermodynamic parameters on the performance and exergy destruction in each component for the combined cycle. The results show that the condenser temperature, the evaporator temperature, the turbine inlet pressure, the turbine extraction pressure and extraction ratio have significant effects on the turbine power output, refrigeration output, exergy efficiency and exergy destruction in each component in the combined cycle. It is also shown that the biggest exergy destruction occurs in the heat recovery vapor generator, followed by the ejector and turbine.  相似文献

In this paper, the adsorption and refrigerating performances of a composite adsorbent (S40) and its host microporous silica gel matrix (S0) are investigated comparatively in which water is used as refrigerant. The composite adsorbent is developed by impregnating the silica gel (S0) with calcium chloride. A lab-scale single-bed adsorption chiller system, functioning without any valve on its refrigerant circuit, is designed and used as test rig. The mass ratio (MR), defined as the ratio of the specific cooling power (SCP) of S40 to that of S0, is found to be higher than 2, while the COP has been improved by 25%, in average. The S40 has been tested to have, not only the capacity of adsorbing water vapour more than twice as much as the S0 does, but also, kinetically, to adsorb and desorb faster. The cycled amounts of refrigerant (CAR), calculated from measured isobaric adsorption levels, further show that the S40 can be regenerated at lower temperatures, with respect to S0.  相似文献

Numerical investigation of a diffusion absorption refrigeration cycle   总被引:4,自引:2,他引:2
A thermodynamic model was developed for an ammonia–water diffusion absorption refrigeration (DAR) cycle with hydrogen or helium as the auxiliary inert gas, manufactured by Electrolux Sweden (currently known as Dometic). The performance of the system was examined parametrically by computer simulation. Mass and energy conservation equations were developed for each component of the cycle and solved numerically. The model was validated by comparison with previously published experimental data for DAR systems. Investigation of cycle performance under different conditions indicated that the best performance was obtained for a concentration range of the rich solution of 0.2–0.3 ammonia mass fraction and that the recommended concentration of the weak solution was 0.1. It was also found that as the degree of rectification decreased, the performance of the DAR cycle decreased. Finally, the study showed that helium was superior to hydrogen as the inert gas: the coefficient of performance of a DAR unit working with helium was higher by up to 40% than a cycle working with hydrogen.  相似文献
