This paper presents an experimental study on real-time air pollution monitoring using wireless sensors on public transport vehicles. The study is part of the GreenIoT project in Sweden, which utilizes Internet-of-Things to measure air pollution level in the city center of Uppsala. Through deploying low-cost wireless sensors, it is possible to obtain more fine-grained and real-time air pollution levels at different locations. The sensors on public transport vehicles complement the readings from stationary sensors and the only ground level monitoring station in Uppsala. The paper describes the deployment of wireless sensors on Uppsala buses and the integration of the mobile sensor network with the GreenIoT testbed. Extensive experiments have been conducted to evaluate the communication quality and data quality of the system.  相似文献

Unattended wireless sensor networks operating in hostile environments face the risk of compromise. Given the unattended nature, sensors must safeguard their sensed data of high value temporarily. However, saving data inside a network creates security problems due to the lack of tamper‐resistance of sensors and the unattended nature of the network. In some occasions, a network controller may periodically dispatch mobile sinks to collect data. If a mobile sink is given too many privileges, it will become very attractive for attack. Thus, the privilege of mobile sinks should be restricted. Additionally, secret keys should be used to achieve data confidentiality, integrity, and authentication between communicating parties. To address these security issues, we present mAKPS, an asymmetric key predistribution scheme with mobile sinks, to facilitate the key distribution and privilege restriction of mobile sinks, and schemes for sensors to protect their collected data in unattended wireless sensor networks. Wireless sensor networks improve the quality of human daily life like ubiquitous city and healthcare services as well as the fundamental monitoring such as environment pollution, tunnel monitoring, earthquake diagnostic, and so on. To increase usability and feasibility of collected sensor data, a wireless sensor network should be required to apply a variety of mobile devices to give the information at anytime and anywhere to users. Thus, we present multi-sensor centric smart sensor network architecture using general mobile devices in order to provide more efficient and valuable sensor network application and services. The proposed system architecture is based on IEEE 802.15.4-2006 standard with smart mobile devices. We also show some scenarios with on-demand request and real time event driven data to show the feasibility of the proposed architecture using five kinds of sensors such as magnetic, photodiode, microphone, motion and vibration. Based on the experiment results, we show that the proposed system has the potential as smart mobile device-based wireless sensor network architecture.  相似文献

This paper proposes a network‐adaptive mechanism for HTTP‐based video streaming over wireless/mobile networks. To provide adaptive video streaming over wireless/mobile networks, the proposed mechanism consists of a throughput estimation scheme in the time‐variant wireless network environment and a video rate selection algorithm used to increase the streaming quality. The adaptive video streaming system with proposed modules is implemented using an open source multimedia framework and is validated over emulated wireless/mobile networks. The emulator helps to model and emulate network conditions based on data collected from actual experiments. The experiment results show that the proposed mechanism provides higher video quality than the existing system provides and a rate of video streaming almost void of freezing.  相似文献

Bluetooth is a wireless personal area network. This type of networks is widely used for image communication. This paper presents a study for the transmission of images over mobile Bluetooth networks. It presents a novel chaotic interleaving scheme for this purpose. In this scheme, the chaotic Baker map is used for bit interleaving and enhanced data rate packets are used for data transmission. In the proposed scheme, the chaotic interleaver can be applied on the whole bit stream or on a packet-by-packet basis. The proposed scheme is applied with 2DH1, 2DM1, 3DH5, and 3DM5 packets. A comparison study between the proposed scheme and the traditional interleaving schemes for image transmission over correlated and uncorrelated fading channels is presented. The simulation results show the superiority of the proposed scheme over the traditional schemes. The proposed scheme also adds a degree of security to data transmission.  相似文献

This study presents a healthcare monitoring architecture coupled with wearable sensor systems and an environmental sensor network for monitoring elderly or chronic patients in their residence. The wearable sensor system, built into a fabric belt, consists of various medical sensors that collect a timely set of physiological health indicators transmitted via low energy wireless communication to mobile computing devices. Three application scenarios are implemented using the proposed network architecture. The group-based data collection and data transmission using the ad hoc mode promote outpatient healthcare services for only one medical staff member assigned to a set of patients. Adaptive security issues for data transmission are performed based on different wireless capabilities. This study also presents a monitoring application prototype for capturing sensor data from wireless sensor nodes. The implemented schemes were verified as performing efficiently and rapidly in the proposed network architecture.  相似文献

针对传统人工采集费时费力和有线监控布线复杂、维护困难的局限性,将传感器与ZigBee无线网络技术相结合,提出了无线传感网络的智能机房环境监控系统的设计方案,并进行了实现。该系统利用ZigBee技术实现对采集数据及信息的无线收发,通过公共网关接口CGI将数据和控制信息传送到互联网,操作人员从远距离的PC机上实时查看数据、实施控制,从而实现了真正意义的远程监控。  相似文献

提出、设计并验证了一种低成本、低功耗的分布式环境质量无线实时监测系统。该系统采用基于TI CC2530微控制器的ZigBee无线协议栈。无线采集节点内置的MSP430G2553微控制器收集温湿度传感器、空气微粒传感器和光传感器得到的环境质量数据经由ZigBee无线传感网传送至ZigBee-IP网关。基于S3C2440的嵌入式ZigBee-IP网关将采集到的环境质量数据以Web网页的形式向互联网用户提供实时环境质量报告。该系统针对目前百姓普遍关心的环境质量问题,对于政府环保部门、大型污染企业环境质量监控等有一定的参考及推广价值。  相似文献

Environment monitoring is an essential application in wireless sensor networks. We consider a large area surveillance in which a monitored region is divided into small sub areas where sensors, sinks, and mobile robots are responsible for surveillance jobs. Sensors collect data from the environment for specific monitoring purposes. Sinks are usually stationary and responsible for collecting regional information, while mobile robots are always patrolling the monitored areas to handle events. Under the above scenario, we propose anti-inspired digital pheromone to classify priorities of events used in a proposed patrolling algorithm, in which, mobile robots are patrolling and handling events with priorities along the roads. Events with higher priorities are handled with higher priorities, while productive event handling, i.e., handling more events, is also the goal. Extensive simulations are conducted to study the efficiency of the proposed method.

In a static wireless sensor network (WSN), sensors close to the base station (BS) run out of energy at a much faster rate than sensors in other parts of the network. This is because the sensor close to the BS always relays the data for other sensors, resulting in an unequal distribution of network residual energy. In this paper, we propose a scheme for enhancing the network lifetime using multiple mobile cluster heads (CHs) that can move in the WSN in a controllable manner. The CH controllably moves toward the energy‐rich sensors or the event area, offering the benefits of maintaining the remaining energy more evenly, or eliminating multihop transmission. Therefore, the proposed scheme increases the network lifetime. We theoretically analyze the energy consumption in our scheme and propose three heuristical mobility strategies. We further study the collaboration among CHs in order to maintain their connectivity to the BS to ensure the delay requirement for real‐time applications. Simulation shows that network lifetime is increased by upto 75% over existing approach by making CHs always move toward a stable equilibrium point. Our connectivity algorithm provides a best case improvement of 40% in transmission delays over existing schemes. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In wireless network convergence, each mobile host is expected to have multiple kinds of wireless interfaces. Multicast‐based applications are expected to be widely deployed. In this paper, a new network selection scheme is proposed for a mobile host to select the most appropriate wireless access network to maximize user satisfaction and ISP's profit, simultaneously. We have devised a metric to measure a user's satisfaction and we also developed a ‘normalized network resource’ metric for system profit measure. We have compared our scheme with three other reference schemes, through simulations. Depending on the network deployment situations, our scheme exhibits one‐fifth service disruption time of other reference schemes, while the resource consumption of our scheme is comparable to that of the minimum resource scheme. Overall, the gain of our scheme becomes higher as users move faster and/or the population density increases. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In mobile communications, effective inter-networking is mandatory in order to support user roaming among various types of wireless networks while maintaining connectivity. In this paper, we propose a super node system architecture to achieve the connectivity over interconnected heterogeneous wireless access networks, which employs the delay-tolerant network (DTN) concept to overcome the problem of potential intermittent connections caused by user roaming and ensures message delivery in the presence of a long disconnection period. By introducing the concept of virtual network topology, we present a new routing technique for mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) within the system architecture, which redefines the dominating-set based routing for the challenged network environment. A time based methodology is presented to predict the probability of future contacts between node pairs for constructing the virtual network topology. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed dominating-set based routing scheme under the DTN system architecture.
