There is an electric voltage difference across the axonal membrane. Information is carried over the axon in the form of rapid changes in this voltage difference. The action potential travels rapidly along the axon from the neuron cell body toward the distal portion of the axon. Many investigators have studied the phenomenological events associated with membrane excitation due to various external electrical signals. But few efforts were made to test the thermal effect on neuron response in vivo and thus to develop its engineering implementations. This study proposed a novel strategy for evaluation of physiological comfort of biological bodies subject to a specific thermal environment using the self-sustained oscillation of action potentials in neuron. Unlike the traditional way of using the thermal balance equation to evaluate the thermal comfort, this new approach fundamentally correlates the major variables such as neuron excitation, air temperature and velocity, biological activity level, body metabolism, healthy state and an individual’s response to those climatic factors. We deduce a general simple criterion (Thermal Comfort Degree TCD) to assessing the thermal comfort. 相似文献

Zusammenfassung Durch eine schnelle Variation der zwischen den beidseitigen Axialmembranen von Nervenzellen bestehende Spannungsdifferenz werden die Informationen übertragen. Das bestehende Spannungspotential wird schnell entlang des Axons vom Zellkörper zum distalen Ende des Axons übertragen. Diverse Untersuchungen haben aufgezeigt, dass diese Erscheinung mit der Aktivierung der Membrane durch das äußere Elektrosignal verbunden ist. Hingegen wurde bisher nur wenige Untersuchungen vorgenommen, um den thermischen Effekt der Reaktion der Nervenzelle zu erfassen und damit deren Bedeutung für die ingenieurtechnische Anwendung. Diese Arbeit stellt hierzu eine neue Methode vor, um die Behaglichkeit von Lebewesen in einer bestimmten thermischen Umgebung durch Betrachtung der Schwingfrequenz des auftretenden Spannungspotentiale im Nerv auszuwerten. Im Gegensatz zu der Auswertung der thermischen Behaglichkeit mit Hilfe der thermischen Gleichung werden die vielfältigen Parameter nach der neuen Methode entsprechend der vielfältigen Umgebungsbedingungen berücksichtigt, die aus der Aktivierung der Nerven durch Temperatur, Luftgeschwindigkeit, Ausmaß der biologischen Nervenaktivierung, dem Körpermetabolismus und des Gesundheitszustands des Individuums entstehen. Die thermischen Behaglichkeit wird durch ein einfaches Kriterium, dem thermischen Behaglichkeitsgrad TBG erfaßt.

This article studies, experimentally and theoretically, the thermal performance of cold storage in thermal battery for air conditioning. Thermal battery utilizes the superior heat transfer characteristics of heat pipe and eliminates drawbacks found in the conventional thermal storage tank. Experimental investigations are first conducted to study the cold storage thermal performance in two experimental systems: the ratio of distance between heat pipes to outer diameter of heat pipe W/D=6 and 2. Different heat transfer mechanisms including nucleate boiling, geyser boiling and natural convection are identified in different experimental systems with various liquid fills. A theoretical model to determine the thermal characteristics of the thermal battery has also been developed. Comparisons of this theory with experimental data show good agreements in the nucleate boiling stage of cold storage process. 相似文献
