This paper introduces the developing tendency of refractories for iron and steel industry combined with the new metallurgical techniques applied in iron and steel industry in China. Refractories for blast furnace long service life, smelting reduction iron-making process, secondary refining metallurgies and clean steel making, near net shape continuous casting are described respectively. To meet the requirement of iron and steel industry, the high quality, multi-functions and environment-friendly refractories with long service llfe will be focused and developed in the future. Magnesia–graphite refractories are currently essential for the iron and steel industry. As a result, their physico-chemical characterization is crucial with a view to predicting their service life. In this work, a methodology for the complete analytical characterization of such materials has been developed. Magnesia–graphite refractories generally contain elemental phases (C, Si, and Al), non-oxide and oxide inorganic phases (SiC, MgO, and Al2O3), organic phase (binders), and various additives and impurities. Consequently, their chemical characterization is especially difficult and requires the joint use of the following techniques: X-ray diffraction, differential thermal and thermogravimetric analyses, inductively coupled plasma–atomic emission spectroscopy, flame emission, Fourier transform infrared spectrometry, gravimetry, and C/S elemental analyzer (LECO). The data obtained by the different techniques match satisfactorily and provide validity to the methodology developed. The results obtained for each element analyzed, and the precision of each determination method used, are quite acceptable.  相似文献

Mobarakeh Steel Company produces 3 million tons ofsteel annually with eight 180 tons EBT furnaces. Differ-ent types of magnesia-carbon refractories have been em-ployed at slagline during last 5 years. In the present studythe wear and corrosion of MgO-C refractories of these fur-naces have been studied via post-mortem analysis of usedbricks and the observation of operational effects. Laborato-ry corrosion tests were also arranged to investigate the effectof slag chemistry and the mechanism of chemical corro-sion.
