The Flowserve Pump Division (FPD) reported operating income of US$20.8 million in the first quarter, down from US$30.0 million a year earlier, while first quarter 2003 sales were US$284.0 million compared with US$266.8 million in the prior year period. Higher FPD sales and bookings, particularly in the petroleum business, were offset by weakness in the chemical and general industrial sectors and an unfavourable mix of project business.     

Pioneering e-supply chain integration in semiconductor industry: a case study

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is the largest semiconductor foundry in the world. Advanced Semiconductor Engineering Inc. (ASE) is the world’s leader in semiconductor assembly and testing. From 1998 to 2004, the two companies completed electronic integration of 11 key business processes through the Internet. The result is a seamless interface between TSMC, ASE and their joint customers. They can now obtain accurate, timely information on their product status and respond appropriately when needed. While the direct economic benefits are estimated to be around US$ 10 million through productivity increase over a total investment of about US$ 2 million, the indirect benefits of this initiative could be on the order of US $100 million if the joint customers’ benefits are considered. In collaboration with the RosettaNet organization, TSMC and ASE leveraged their pioneering experiences to define three data exchange standards which can then be widely adopted in the semiconductor industry. This case study is a demonstration of how two leading companies in their respective fields can join forces to make a difference in creating value for the entire semiconductor industry, which in turn benefits society at large. With the momentum continuing to build and the sphere of influence continuing to expand, it is anticipated that TSMC, ASE and the entire sector will upgrade their competitiveness in terms of cost, quality, responsiveness and customer orientation.     

CB&I wins tank work at Oman refinery

Chicago Bridge & Iron (CB&I) has been awarded a US$50 million turnkey contract for all tankage at the grassroots Sohar Refinery in Sohar, Oman. CB&I's contract is with JGC Corp, the main engineering contractor for the entire US$1 billion facility.

ASEAN has been Guangxi Province's largest trading partner for eight consecutive years since 2001.Since the panBeibu Bay Cooperation Strategy was put forward two years ago,the bilateral trade with ASEAN has grown quickly. According to statistics released by Nanning Customs,the bilateral trade volume between Guangxi and ASEAN in January -July reached US $2.55 billion, up 83.8% year on year,of which Guangxi's import accounted for US$830 million and its export accounted for US$1.72 billion,up 33.4%and 1.2 fold respectively.The trade scale between Guangxi and ASEAN ranked tenth in the country and the import and export growth ranked 4th in the country.

Flowserve acquires Thompsons,Kelly & Lewis

Flowserve Corp has acquired the remaining shares of Thompsons, Kelly & Lewis Pty Ltd (TKL), the Australian manufacturer and supplier of centrifugal pumps, railway trackwork products and steel castings, in a US$11.3 million cash deal.
