The specification of modeling and analysis of real-time and embedded systems (MARTE) is an extension of the unified modeling language (UML) in the domain of real-time and embedded systems. Even though MARTE time model offers a support to describe both discrete and dense clocks, the biggest effort has been put so far on the specification and analysis of discrete MARTE models. To address hybrid real-time and embedded systems, we propose to extend statecharts using both MARTE and the theory of hybrid automata. We call this extension hybrid MARTE statecharts. It provides an improvement over the hybrid automata in that: the logical time variables and the chronometric time variables are unified. The formal syntax and semantics of hybrid MARTE statecharts are given based on labeled transition systems and live transition systems. As a case study, we model the behavior of a train control system with hybrid MARTE statecharts to demonstrate the benefit.

Constraint automata have been introduced to provide a uniform operational model for specifying service interfaces of components, the network that yields the glue code for the components, and the operational behavior of the composite system. Constraint automata have been used as the basis for equivalence checking and model checking temporal logical properties. This paper presents a multi-player semantics for constraint automata which serves to reason about controllability, interaction and cooperation facilities of individual components or coalitions of components in a given network. We introduce a temporal logic framework, called alternating-time stream logic, that combines classical features of alternating-time logic (ATL) for concurrent games with special operators for specifying regular conditions on the data streams in the network and on the write and read operations at the I/O-ports of the components. Since constraint automata support any kind of synchronous and asynchronous peer-to-peer communication, the resulting game structure is non-standard and requires a series of nontrivial adaptations to the semantics and verification algorithms for classical alternating-time approaches.

The Spatio-Temporal Consistency Language(STeC)is a high-level modeling language that deals natively with spatio-temporal behaviour,i.e.,behaviour relating to certain locations and time.Such restriction by both locations and time is of first importance for some types of real-time systems.CCSL is a formal specification language based on logical clocks. It is used to describe some crucial safety properties for real-time systems, due to its powerful expressiveness of logical and chronometric time constraints. We consider a novel verification framework combining STeC and CCSL,with the advantages of addressing spatio-temporal consistency of system behaviour and easily expressing some crucial time constraints. We propose a theory combining these two languages and a method verifying CCSL properties in STeC models. We adopt UPPAAL as the model checking tool and give a simple example to illustrate how to carry out verification in our framework.

Checking Finite Traces Using Alternating Automata
Alternating automata have been commonly used as a basis for static verification of reactive systems. In this paper we show how alternating automata can be used in runtime verification. We present three algorithms to check at runtime whether a reactive program satisfies a temporal specification, expressed by a linear-time temporal logic formula. The three methods start from the same alternating automaton but traverse the automaton in different ways: depth-first, breadth-first, and backwards, respectively. We then show how an extension of these algorithms, that collects statistical data while verifying the execution trace, can be used for a more detailed analysis of the runtime behavior. All three methods have been implemented and experimental results are presented.

We propose a real-time extension to the process algebra CSP. Inspired by timed automata, a very successful formalism for the specification and verification of real-time systems, we handle real time by means of clocks, i.e. real-valued variables that increase at the same rate as time. This differs from the conventional approach based on timed transitions. We give a discrete trace and failures semantics to our language and define the resulting refinement relations. One advantage of our proposal is that it is possible to automatically verify refinement relations between processes. We demonstrate how this can be achieved and under which conditions.Partially supported by EPSRC grant GR/N22960.Received January 2004Revised September 2004Accepted December 2004 by M. Leuschel and D. We consider a first-order property specification language for run-time monitoring of dynamic systems. The language is based on a linear-time temporal logic and offers two kinds of quantifiers to bind free variables in a formula. One kind contains the usual first-order quantifiers that provide for replication of properties for dynamically created and destroyed objects in the system. The other kind, called attribute quantifiers, is used to check dynamically changing values within the same object. We show that expressions in this language can be efficiently checked over an execution trace of a system.

Run‐time monitoring is an important technique to detect erroneous run‐time behaviors. Several techniques have been proposed to automatically generate monitors from specification languages to check temporal and real‐time properties. However, monitoring of probabilistic properties still requires manual generation. To overcome this problem, we define a formal property specification language called Probabilistic Timed Property Sequence Chart (PTPSC). PTPSC is a probabilistic and timed extension of the existing scenario‐based specification formalism Property Sequence Chart (PSC). We have defined a formal grammar‐based syntax and have implemented a syntax‐directed translator that can automatically generate a probabilistic monitor which combines timed B”uchi automata and a sequential statistical hypothesis test process. We validate the generated monitors with a set of experiments performed with our tool WS‐PSC Monitor. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

PSL(property specification language)是一种用于描述并行系统的属性规约语言,包括线性时序逻辑FL(foundation language)和分支时序逻辑OBE(optional branching extension)两部分.

Temporal logics are commonly used for reasoning about concurrent systems. Model checkers and other finite-state verification techniques allow for automated checking of system model compliance to given temporal properties. These properties are typically specified as linear-time formulae in temporal logics. Unfortunately, the level of inherent sophistication required by these formalisms too often represents an impediment to move these techniques from “research theory” to “industry practice”. The objective of this work is to facilitate the nontrivial and error prone task of specifying, correctly and without expertise in temporal logic, temporal properties. In order to understand the basis of a simple but expressive formalism for specifying temporal properties we critically analyze commonly used in practice visual notations. Then we present a scenario-based visual language called Property Sequence Chart (PSC) that, in our opinion, fixes the highlighted lacks of these notations by extending a subset of UML 2.0 Interaction Sequence Diagrams. We also provide PSC with both denotational and operational semantics. The operational semantics is obtained via translation into Büchi automata and the translation algorithm is implemented as a plugin of our Charmy tool. Expressiveness of PSC has been validated with respect to well known property specification patterns. Preliminary results appeared in (Autili et al. 2006a).

Secure software engineering is a new research area that has been proposed to address security issues during the development of software systems. This new area of research advocates that security characteristics should be considered from the early stages of the software development life cycle and should not be added as another layer in the system on an ad-hoc basis after the system is built. In this paper, we describe a UML-based Static Verification Framework (USVF) to support the design and verification of secure software systems in early stages of the software development life-cycle taking into consideration security and general requirements of the software system. USVF performs static verification on UML models consisting of UML class and state machine diagrams extended by an action language. We present an operational semantics of UML models, define a property specification language designed to reason about temporal and general properties of UML state machines using the semantic domains of the former, and implement the model checking process by translating models and properties into Promela, the input language of the SPIN model checker. We show that the methodology can be applied to the verification of security properties by representing the main aspects of security, namely availability, integrity and confidentiality, in the USVF property specification language.

Property specification languages and ABV (assertion-based verification) driven by simulation are being recognized by many as essential for verification of today’s increasingly complex designs. In addition, there are few mature approaches that concentrate on improving assertion integration with high-level designs modeled in SystemC. This paper discusses the issues faced within SystemC environments to incorporate PSL (property specification language) assertions. It also proposes an automatic solution that enhances SOC (system on chip) SLD (system level design) flow with PSL assertions embedded into SystemC designs.

Probabilistic timed automata are timed automata extended with discrete probability distributions, and can be used to model timed randomised protocols or fault-tolerant systems. We present symbolic model-checking algorithms for probabilistic timed automata to verify both qualitative temporal logic properties, corresponding to satisfaction with probability 0 or 1, and quantitative properties, corresponding to satisfaction with arbitrary probability. The algorithms operate on zones, which represent sets of valuations of the probabilistic timed automaton’s clocks. Our method considers only those system behaviours which guarantee the divergence of time with probability 1. The paper presents a symbolic framework for the verification of probabilistic timed automata against the probabilistic, timed temporal logic PTCTL. We also report on a prototype implementation of the algorithms using Difference Bound Matrices, and present the results of its application to the CSMA/CD and FireWire root contention protocol case studies.

We present an overview of the Java PathExplorer runtime verification tool, in short referred to as JPAX. JPAX can monitor the execution of a Java program and check that it conforms with a set of user provided properties formulated in temporal logic. JPAX can in addition analyze the program for concurrency errors such as deadlocks and data races. The concurrency analysis requires no user provided specification. The tool facilitates automated instrumentation of a program's bytecode, which when executed will emit an event stream, the execution trace, to an observer. The observer dispatches the incoming event stream to a set of observer processes, each performing a specialized analysis, such as the temporal logic verification, the deadlock analysis and the data race analysis. Temporal logic specifications can be formulated by the user in the Maude rewriting logic, where Maude is a high-speed rewriting system for equational logic, but here extended with executable temporal logic. The Maude rewriting engine is then activated as an event driven monitoring process. Alternatively, temporal specifications can be translated into automata or algorithms that can efficiently check the event stream. JPAX can be used during program testing to gain increased information about program executions, and can potentially furthermore be applied during operation to survey safety critical systems.

Runtime monitoring is an established technique to enforce a wide range of program safety and security properties. We present a formalization of monitoring and monitor inlining, for the Java Virtual Machine. Monitors are security automata given in a special-purpose monitor specification language, ConSpec. The automata operate on finite or infinite strings of calls to a fixed API, allowing local dependencies on parameter values and heap content. We use a two-level class file annotation scheme to characterize two key properties: (i) that the program is correct with respect to the monitor as a constraint on allowed program behavior, and (ii) that the program has a copy of the given monitor embedded into it. As the main application of these results we sketch a simple inlining algorithm and show how the two-level annotations can be completed to produce a fully annotated program which is valid in the standard sense of Floyd/Hoare logic. This establishes the mediation property that inlined programs are guaranteed to adhere to the intended policy. Furthermore, validity can be checked efficiently using a weakest precondition based annotation checker, thus preparing the ground for on-device checking of policy adherence in a proof-carrying code setting.

We present the formal specification and verification of a lip-synchronisation protocol using the real-time model checker Uppaal. A number of specifications of this protocol can be found in the literature, but this is the first automatic verification. We take a published specification of the protocol, code it up in the Uppaal timed automata notation and then verify whether the protocol satisfies the key properties of jitter and skew. The verification reveals some aws in the protocol. In particular, it shows that for certain sound and video streams the protocol can time-lock before reaching a prescribed error state. We also discuss our experience with Uppaal, with particular reference to modelling timeouts and to deadlock analysis. Received March 1998 / Accepted in revised form October 1998  相似文献

We present an extension to linear-time temporal logic (LTL) that combines the temporal specification with the collection of statistical data. By collecting statistics over runtime executions of a program we can answer complex queries, such as “what is the average number of packet transmissions' in a communication protocol, or “how often does a particular process enter the critical section while another process remains waiting' in a mutual exclusion algorithm. To decouple the evaluation strategy of the queries from the definition of the temporal operators, we introduce algebraic alternating automata as an automata-based intermediate representation. Algebraic alternating automata are an extension of alternating automata that produce a value instead of acceptance or rejection for each trace. Based on the translation of the formulas from the query language to algebraic alternating automata, we obtain a simple and efficient query evaluation algorithm. The approach is illustrated with examples and experimental results.  相似文献
