A curvilinear integral method for multiaxial fatigue life computing under non-proportional, arbitrary or random stressing 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
S. Stephanov 《International Journal of Fatigue》1993,15(6):467-472
Some popular concepts for reducing three variable stress components σx(t), σy(t), τxy(t) to one equivalent amplitude spectrum, and the use of the linear damage accumulation hypothesis, have been evaluated as not fully correct when these components vary non-proportionally and arbitrarily. A different approach is suggested: computing damage accumulation by means of an integral directly on the non-radial arbitrary path, called the ‘trajectory’, described in the σx−σy plane when τxy(t) = 0, in the σx−τxy plane when σy(t) = 0, or in a special coordinate space where this trajectory is invariant of stress directions x, y. If the trajectory is random, it may be replaced by a statistical two-dimensional density of distribution. The integrand, called the R-function, is derived from various S−N fatigue curves under different determined loadings. Thus the traditional S−N function is replaced by the R-function for direct damage summation with differential analysis, which allows the loading to be arbitrary (non-cyclic, multiaxial and non-proportional). The method works by means of computer programs and is applicable to real structures. 相似文献

A computerized procedure is presented and evaluated for application examples of long-life fatigue analyses of metallic materials under complex multiaxial loading. The method is based on the stress invariants and uses the minimum circumscribed ellipse approach for evaluating the effective shear stress amplitude under complex multiaxial loading. The applicability of the procedure for handling non-proportional loading is examined through typical examples such as combined normal/shear stresses and combined bi-axial normal stresses with complex stress time histories. The effects of phase shift angles, frequency ratios and waveforms on fatigue endurance were re-analysed and compared with available experimental results from the literature. The comparison shows that the presented procedure based on stress invariants is a potential conservative engineering approach, very suitable for fast fatigue evaluation in the integrated computer aided fatigue design. 相似文献

Fatigue life prediction of vulcanized natural rubber under proportional and non-proportional loading
Y. WANG W. YU X. CHEN L. YAN 《Fatigue & Fracture of Engineering Materials & Structures》2008,31(1):38-48
To investigate the multiaxial fatigue properties of vulcanized natural rubber (NR), a series of tests including both proportional and non-proportional loading paths on small specimens were performed. The existing fatigue life prediction approaches are evaluated with life data obtained in the tests. It is shown that the equivalent strain approach presents a good prediction of the fatigue life although it has a certain shortcoming. Compared with the strain energy density (SED) model, the cracking energy density (CED) model represents the portion of SED that is available to be released by virtue of crack growth on a given material plane, so it gives better results in the life prediction. Some of the approaches based on critical plane which are widely used for metal fatigue are also tested in this paper, and the results show that the Chen-Xu-Huang (CXH) model gives a better prediction, compared with the Smith-Watson-Topper (SWT) and Wang–Brown (WB) model. A modified Fatemi–Socie's model has also been introduced, and the results show that the modified model can be used to predict the fatigue life of rubber material well. 相似文献

A new method of fatigue life assessment under multiaxial low-cycle regular and irregular loading is proposed, which is based
on the modified Pisarenko-Lebedev criterion, the linear damage accumulation hypothesis, and the nonlinear Manson approach.
The results of low-cycle fatigue tests of titanium alloy VT9 under irregular proportional and non-proportional biaxial loading
are given. The tests were carried out at three Mises strain levels (0.6, 0.8, and 1.0%) with various combinations of proportional
and non-proportional strain paths. All the tests were carried out at room temperature. The proposed method turned out to be
effective and to allow for such factors as strain state type, strain path type and loading irregularity.

Fatigue crack path prediction and crack arrest are very important for structural safety. In real engineering structures, there are many factors influencing the fatigue crack paths, such as the material type (microstructure), structural geometry and loading path, etc. In this paper, both experimental and numerical methods are applied to study the effects of loading path on crack orientations. Experiments were conducted on a biaxial testing machine, using specimens made of two steels: 42CrMo4 and CK45 (equivalent to AISI 1045), with six different biaxial loading paths. Fractographical analyses of the plane of the stage I crack propagation were carried out and the crack orientations were measured using optical microscopy. The multiaxial fatigue models, such as the critical plane models and also the energy‐based critical plane models, were applied for predicting the orientation of the critical plane. Comparisons of the predicted orientation of the damage plane with the experimental observations show that the shear‐based multiaxial fatigue models provide good predictions for stage I crack growth for the ductile materials studied in this paper. 相似文献

A new critical plane‐energy model is proposed in this paper for multiaxial fatigue life prediction of metals. A brief review of existing methods, especially on the critical plane‐based and energy‐based methods, is given first. Special focus is on the Liu–Mahadevan critical plane approach, which has been shown to work for both brittle and ductile metals. One potential drawback of the Liu–Mahadevan model is that it needs an empirical calibration parameter for non‐proportional multiaxial loadings because only the strain terms are used and the out‐of‐phase hardening cannot be explicitly considered. An energy‐based model using the Liu–Mahadevan concept is proposed with the help of the Mróz–Garud plasticity model. Thus, the empirical calibration for non‐proportional loading is not needed because the out‐of‐phase hardening is naturally included in the stress calculation. The model predictions are compared with experimental data from open literature, and the proposed model is shown to work for both proportional and non‐proportional multiaxial loadings without the empirical calibration. 相似文献

A fatigue criterion for general multiaxial loading 总被引:6,自引:1,他引:6

An incremental fatigue damage model is proposed. The model incorporates the critical plane concept in multiaxial fatigue, plastic strain energy and material memory in cyclic plasticity. With an incremental form the model does not require a cycle counting method for variable amplitude loading. The model is designed to consider mean stress and loading sequence effects. Features of the new model are discussed and the determination of material constants is detailed. Verification of the model is achieved by comparing the predictions obtained by using the new model and experimental data of four materials under different loading conditions. 相似文献

Low‐cycle fatigue data of type 304 stainless steel obtained under axial‐torsional loading of variable amplitudes are analyzed using four multiaxial fatigue parameters: SWT, KBM, FS and LKN. Rainflow cycle counting and Morrow's plastic work interaction rule are used to calculate fatigue damage. The performance of a fatigue model is dependent on the fatigue parameter, the critical plane and the damage accumulation rule employed in the model. The conservatism and non‐conservatism of predicted lives are examined for some combinations of these variables. A new critical plane called the weight function‐critical plane is introduced for variable amplitude loading. This approach is found to improve the KBM‐based life predictions. 相似文献

A multiaxial fatigue criterion for random loading 总被引:1,自引:1,他引:1

ABSTRACT A multiaxial fatigue criterion for random loading is proposed. Firstly, the orientation of the critical plane, where fatigue life estimation is carried out, is determined from the weighted mean position of the principal stress directions. Then, the scalar value of the normal stress vector N (t) perpendicular to the critical plane is taken as the cycle counting variable since the direction of such a vector is fixed with respect to time (conversely to the time‐varying direction of the shear stress vector C (t)), and a nonlinear combination of normal and shear stress components acting on the critical plane is used to define an equivalent stress amplitude. Finally, a damage accumulation model is employed to process such an equivalent stress amplitude and to determine fatigue endurance. This criterion is herein applied to some relevant random fatigue tests (proportional bending and torsion). 相似文献

Detailed microscopic analyses have been made on the high-cycle mechanisms in 1045 steel under various stress-controlled axial-torsional loadings. A special attention has been paid to a critical example of non-proportional loading, i.e., 90° out-of-phase loading with different stress ratios. The replica technique has been used to monitor crack initiation and propagation from the microstructure scale. The orientations of persistent slip bands and Stage I cracks are in good agreement with the critical plane concept. The evolutions of crack length with cycle life as well as the crack aspect ratios depend on the loading condition. However at a given life, the data are consolidated in terms of crack depth versus cycle life. The McDiarmid parameter correlates stress-life data under proportional loadings. However, it underestimates fatigue lives under out-of-phase loading at high stress ratio and it overestimates them in the case where all planes experience the same shear stress amplitude (stress ratio = 0.5). More damaging mechanisms are involved in crack initiation and crack propagation. It is recommended to test the fatigue performance of materials in this last condition that involves the worst damage mechanisms. 相似文献

Fatigue tests under variable amplitude multiaxial loading were conducted on titanium alloy TC4 tubular specimens. A method to estimate the fatigue life under variable amplitude multiaxial loading has been proposed. Multiaxial fatigue parameter based on Wu–Hu–Song approach and rainflow cycle counting and Miner–Palmgren rule were applied in this method. The capability of fatigue life prediction for the proposed method was checked against the test data of TC4 alloy under variable amplitude multiaxial loading. The prediction results are all within a factor of two scatter band of the test results. 相似文献

An innovative numerical methodology is presented for fatigue lifetime estimation of notched bodies experiencing multiaxial cyclic loadings. In the presented methodology, an evaluation approach of the local nonproportionality factor F for notched specimens, which defines F as the ratio of the pseudoshear strain range at 45° to the maximum shear plane and the maximum shear strain range, is proposed and discussed deeply. The proposed evaluation method is incorporated into the material cyclic stress‐strain equation for purpose of describing the nonproportional hardening behavior for some material. The comparison between multiaxial elastic‐plastic finite element analysis (FEA) and experimentally measured strains for S460N steel notched specimens shows that the proposed nonproportionality factor estimation method is effective. Subsequently, the notch stresses and strains calculated utilizing multiaxial elastic‐plastic FEA are used as input data to the critical plane‐based fatigue life prediction methodology. The prediction results are satisfactory for the 7050‐T7451 aluminum alloy and GH4169 superalloy notched specimens under multiaxial cyclic loading. 相似文献

A procedure for estimating the useful life of a component for a given (admissable) probability of fatigue fracture origination under random loading is presented. The method uses material constants obtained from the S/N and cyclic stress/strain curves, standard deviation and probability density distribution of the loading process and a macroblock of harmonic cycles obtained by applying the rainflow cycle counting method to the random loading process. Theoretical and experimental lives are found to exhibit good agreement. 相似文献

Long life fatigue under multiaxial loading 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
A life prediction model in the field of high-cycle (i.e. long-life) fatigue is presented in this paper. The proposed model applies in the case of constant amplitude multiaxial proportional and non-proportional loading. The problems of the fatigue limit criterion and of the fatigue life prediction are both addressed and comparisons with experimental data are shown. Some limited discussion of the stress gradient effect is also offered. Although the particular model developed here is better suited for ferritic steels, it is explained in the paper that the methodology used to obtain this model can be adequately adapted to derive mathematically consistent models for other classes of metallic materials. 相似文献

A hybrid frequency–time domain method for predicting multiaxial fatigue life under random loading is developed on the basis of combination of the frequency domain and time domain analysis. The critical damage point of the structure is determined by the frequency domain equivalent stress method. Then, the fatigue life prediction is made in time domain by generating random load‐time histories from the power spectral density of the critical point. The method is validated with the random vibration fatigue test of 7075‐T6 aluminium alloy. It has been shown that the results of fatigue life calculated by hybrid method are well correlated with the experiment. 相似文献

Multiaxial low cycle fatigue tests under non-proportional stress (NPSS) controlled mode were performed on commercial pure titanium (CP-Ti). Strain responses of axial and torsional channels under highly applied stress amplitudes show an initial hardening phenomenon. Non-proportional hardening coefficient of CP-Ti is independent of the controlled mode. The critical plane of CP-Ti under NPSS controlled mode is aligned with the maximum principal stress plane proved by optical microscopy observation. Optimized FSM model and KBM-PM model with mean axial and torsional strain are established. These models are further integrated into equations related to multiaxial stress ratio with high accuracy of life prediction for CP-Ti under NPSS controlled mode. 相似文献

A high‐cycle fatigue life model for structures subjected to variable amplitude multiaxial loading is presented in this paper. It treats any kind of repeated blocks of variable amplitude multiaxial loading without using a cycle counting method. This model based on a mesoscopic approach is characterized by the following features: (i) the choice of a damage factor related to the accumulated mesoscopic plastic strain per stabilised cycle; (ii) the use of a mesoscopic mechanical behaviour taking into account the fatigue mechanisms such as plasticity and void growth. This behaviour is a von Mises elastoplastic model with linear kinematic hardening and hydrostatic stress dependent yield stress. The fatigue life model has six parameters identified with one SN curve and two fatigue limits. In‐phase and out‐of‐phase experimental tests from the literature are simulated. The predicted fatigue lives are compared to experimental ones. 相似文献

Based on the Chaboche unified visco-plastic constitutive model, a visco-plastic constitutive model which can take into account non-proportional hardening was proposed for nickel-base alloy at elevated temperature under multiaxial loading. In the proposed multiaxial visco-plastic constitutive model, the non-proportional hardening is considered as a change of kinematic hardening property. The kinematic hardening parameters which can evolve exponentially with the cumulative plastic strain and rotation factor resulted from loading path were proposed to take into account the non-proportional hardening at high temperature under non-proportional loading. Experimental verification showed that the proposed model can accurately predict the peak stresses and the hysteresis loop compared with the original model during the tension-torsion loading process for nickel-base alloy at elevated temperature under non-proportional loading. 相似文献

Stochastic modelling of low-cycle fatigue damage in 316L stainless steel under variable multiaxial loading 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1

In the present study, a stochastic model is developed for the low-cycle fatigue life prediction and reliability assessment of 316L stainless steel under variable multiaxial loading. In the proposed model, fatigue phenomenon is considered as a Markov process, and damage vector and reliability are defined on every plane. Any low-cycle fatigue damage evaluating method can be included in the proposed model. The model enables calculation of statistical reliability and crack initiation direction under variable multiaxial loading, which are generally not available. In the present study, a critical plane method proposed by Kandil et al . ( Metals Soc., London 280, 203–210, 1982) maximum tensile strain range, and von Mises equivalent strain range are used to calculate fatigue damage. When the critical plane method is chosen, the effect of multiple critical planes is also included in the proposed model. Maximum tensile strain and von Mises strain methods are used for the demonstration of the generality of the proposed model. The material properties and the stochastic model parameters are obtained from uniaxial tests only. The stochastic model made of the parameters obtained from the uniaxial tests is applied to the life prediction and reliability assessment of 316L stainless steel under variable multiaxial loading. The predicted results show good aggreement with experimental results. 相似文献

High‐cycle fatigue life prediction methods based on different critical planes, including the maximum shear stress (MSS) plane, the weighted average shear stress plane and the Maximum Variance shear stress plane, are compared by two multiaxial cycle counting methods, i.e. the main and auxiliary channels (MAC) counting and the relative equivalent stress counting. A modified damage model is used to calculate the multiaxial fatigue damage. Compared with the experimental lives for 7075‐T651 aluminium alloy, the predicted results show that the MSS method together with MAC counting is suitable for the multiaxial fatigue life prediction. 相似文献
