A non-linear finite-element scheme, based on the Newton-Raphson-Murty algorithm, was used to analyze the problems of piston rings according to theories of both elastohydrodynamic and hydrodynamic lubrication. The maximum film pressure and the minimum film thickness were obtained and depicted as functions of the crank angle. For hydrodynamic lubrication the results obtained were compared with those found using the method suggested by Dowson and Ruddy; there was good consistency between them. In this way the accuracy and reliability of the proposed method are demonstrated. Furthermore, the results evaluated using the theory of elastohydrodynamic lubrication give a larger minimum oil film thickness and a flatter pressure distribution than those evaluated using the theory of hydrodynamic lubrication.  相似文献

The initial sliding wear of boundary lubricated piston rings used in a hydraulic motor is studied in terms of the changes in mass, form and surface roughness. The piston ring in a hydraulic motor makes an important contribution to high volumetric efficiency by properly sealing the cylinder bore and piston. The results show that the wear on the piston ring in this particular test rig takes place at the top of the asymmetric crowning at the outer surface contacting the cylinder bore. Initially, the roughness amplitude decreased rapidly, and had decreased by one-third after sliding 10 m. The dominant wear mechanism was mild wear. Abrasive wear also clearly influences the amount of wear.  相似文献

A quantitative assessment of the friction behaviour using actual piston ring and cylinder liner under conditions close to tdc has been made. A theoretical hydrodynamic lubrication analysis of piston rings is presented. A numerical scheme is developed to solve the Reynolds' equation and the load equilibrium equation simultaneously. The hydrodynamic effects are examined in detail by considering solutions to the problem of lubricating the top compression ring in a two-stroke diesel engine. The minimum film thickness is computed throughout a complete cycle. The pressure profiles and film shapes at different crankshaft angles are presented. In the method proposed, the camtation boundary condition within the lubricated conjunction is included in the analysis.  相似文献

The measurement of radial pressure distribution of piston rings is very important for minimizing the wastages of lubricating oils and hence the lower gas emissions; for improving the friction status to reduce the gasoline consumption and for the reasonable heat transfer efficiency for the desired accuracy levels. For accurate and efficient measurement of radial pressure distribution of piston rings, a new PC based prototype instrument based on a partial-thin-walled cylinder sensor is designed and developed. The present paper describes the details of the measurement principle, hardware and software of this instrument. The measurement results thus obtained using the proposed instrument during experiments performed on a conical ring of diameter 110 mm and a drum ring of diameter 120 mm, are quite accurate, consistent and repeatable within the desired level of accuracy.  相似文献

The secondary motion of the piston head of a motorized engine is captured using two laser displacement sensors to obtain the piston motion and tilt angle. The controlled parameters of the measurement are engine speed, quantity of oil and oil-fuel mixture and its ratio. The reduction in friction force is more significant at dead center at high speed as the quantity of oil supplied increases. Changes in tilt direction of piston head occur at the inlet port. The relationship between the friction force and piston tilt angle showed weak correlation at low speed and increases with the engine speed.  相似文献
