Several studies have shown that selected management support systems (MSS) favorably impact decision making. Others have theorized that additional benefits could be achieved by consolidating the separate system functions to form an integrated management support system. There have been few, if any, reported empirical tests of this theory. This article offers empirical evidence on integrated MSS effectiveness. It points to the general literature on MSS effects, notes an empirical gap in this literature, and reports the results of experiments that assess the influences of a specific integrated MSS on the process and outcomes of strategic hospital decision making.  相似文献

An effective protection of our environment is largely dependent on the quality of the available information used to make an appropriate decision. Problems arise when the quantities of available information are huge and nonuniform (i.e., coming from many different disciplines or sources) and their quality could not be stated in advance. Another associated issue is the dynamical nature of the problem. Computers are central in contemporary environmental protection in tasks such as monitoring, data analysis, communication, information storage and retrieval, so it has been natural to try to integrate and enhance all these tasks with Artificial Intelligence knowledge-based techniques. This paper presents an overview of the impact of Artificial Intelligence techniques on the definition and development of Environmental Decision Support Systems (EDSS) during the last fifteen years. The review highlights the desirable features that an EDSS must show. The paper concludes with a selection of successful applications to a wide range of environmental problems.  相似文献

This paper provides an analysis of existing literature and practical problems associated with the adoption of a developed knowledge-based decision support system (KBDSS) within small rural businesses. The rural small businesses selected for this study were individual farms within the Australian dairy industry and the developed KBDSS was called DairyPro. The object was to determine the factors that could help with future KBDSS development and improve adoption rates. These factors were tested against DairyPro to determine their effectiveness. This analysis indicates that system developers need to have a good working knowledge of the target industry and to understand the types of decisions that are made by managers in order to develop systems that will be used. A review of the literature also suggests that adoption rates can be influenced by cultural, political, educational and age factors as well as individual characteristics of information technology itself. Small business managers needed more ownership in the process of KBDSS development. The author suggests that the factors affecting KBDSS adoption by dairy farmers can be equally applicable to other small, owner-operated rural businesses. This approach advocates the use of domain experts to provide estimates of expected production levels rather than that of the traditional approach of using the results from mathematical or simulation models to make these estimates.  相似文献

复杂适应系统理论的提出对于人们认识、理解、控制、管理复杂系统提供了新的思路。针对目前决策支持系统的分布式群体决策的发展趋势,文中提出一种基于自适应决策主体的决策支持系统模型,用于大型复杂决策系统的问题求解。给出了自适应决策主体的定义,并对其自适应行为作了描述。自适应决策主体在决策环境中不断适应的结果表现出全局性的突现行为,最终得到复杂决策问题的求解结果。  相似文献

Decision making has been a primary interest of OR/MS, and management scientists have been at the forefront of developments. But the rate of inplementation has not been high, compared to the application of general PC-based decision support tools. Where there has been some recent success is in the area of judgmental modelling. Examples of exploitation on business problems have been reported and these individual cases are extremely valuable in providing insights into the organisational contexts in which the problems are embedded. However most of them are applications on very simple problems and no real implementation is reported. This paper attempts to overcome this deficiency by looking at a much richer organisational environment and considers two largely unexplored aspects of the decision process, namely its longitudinal nature and the group dimension. In this paper we present and discuss the results of three case studies which look into the use of models in a longitudinal decision process, and introduce the associated application of psychological profiling of the group of decision makers involved. All the cases are based in real organisational settings and are not laboratory experiments and therefore little statistical significance can be assigned to the results. But they do provide rich insights into the organisational complexity that surrounds many decisions which should help produce better management tools. The preliminary results suggest that we need to take such characteristics into account when building decision making models if we are to enhance the understanding of the decision without inhibiting behaviour.  相似文献

This paper presents a Text Mining approach for discovering knowledge in texts to later construct decision support systems. Text mining can take advantage of knowledge stored in textual documents, reducing the effort for knowledge acquisition. The approach consists in performing a mining process on concepts present in texts instead of working with words. The assumption is that concepts represent real world events and characteristics better than words, allowing the understanding and the explanation of the reasoning used in decision processes. The proposed approach extracts concepts expressed in natural phrases, and then analyzes their distributions and associations. Concepts distributions and associations are used to characterize classes or situations. After the discovery process, the obtained knowledge can be embedded in automated systems to classify elements or to suggest actions or solutions to problems. In this paper, experiments using the approach in a psychiatric domain are discussed. Concepts extracted from textual medical records represent patients' symptoms, signals and social/behavior characteristics. An automatic system was constructed with the approach: a classifier whose goal is to help physicians in disease diagnoses. Results from this system show that the approach is feasible for constructing decision support systems with satisfactory performance.  相似文献
