Bed voidage was measured in liquid‐fluidized beds having tube bundles embedded vertically in beds, and the heat transfer coefficient was measured on the outer surface of the tube. There were six kinds of test channels used, and a total of nine types of particles of glass and ceramics were tested. The measured bed voidage agreed well with those developed for in‐column fluidization, when the hydraulic equivalent diameter was used. Measured heat transfer coefficients on the vertically embedded tube bundles were higher than those on the vertically embedded single tubes, the calculated values for the in‐column fluidization, and the calculated values for the horizontally embedded tube bundles. Correlations for predicting the heat transfer coefficient were derived for the vertically embedded tube bundles and single tubes. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Heat transfer on tube bundles embedded horizontally in a liquid‐fluidized bed was investigated experimentally. In the experiment, a total of 5 kinds of tube bundles in an equilateral triangular staggered arrangement, including a single tube, was used. Tested particles were of glass and ceramics, and their diameter range was from 2.1 to 6.0 mm. It was found that the distribution of local heat transfer coefficients around a tube depends not on the kind of particles, but on the tube pitch only, when a good fluidizing condition is maintained. Based on the experimental data, a new method was proposed to predict average heat transfer coefficient, which can be applicable for tube bundles having a tube pitch to diameter ratio of 1.2 to infinity (single tube). © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In order to elucidate boiling heat transfer characteristics for each tube and the critical heat flux (CHF) for tube bundles, an experimental investigation of pool and flow boiling of Freon-113 at 0.1 MPa was performed using two typical tube arrangements. A total of fifty heating tubes of 14 mm diameter, equipped with thermocouples and cartridge heaters, were arrayed at pitches of 18.2 and 21.0 mm to simulate both square in-line and equilateral staggered bundles. For the flow boiling tests the same bundles as were used in pool boiling were installed in a vertical rectangular channel, to which the fluid was supplied with an approach velocity varying from 0.022 to 0.22 m/s. It was found in this study that the boiling heat transfer coefficient of each tube in a bundle was higher than that for an isolated single tube in pool boiling. This enhancement increases for tubes at higher locations, but decreases as heat flux is increased. At heat fluxes exceeding certain values, the heat transfer coefficient becomes the same as that for an isolated tube. As the heat flux approaches the CHF, flow pulsations occurred in the pool boiling experiments although the heat transfer coefficient was invariant even under this situation. The approach velocity has an appreciable effect on heat transfer up to a certain level of heat flux. In this range of heat flux, the heat transfer coefficient exceeds the values observed for pool boiling. An additive method with two contributions, i.e., single phase convection and boiling, was used to predict the heat transfer coefficient for bundles. The predicted results showed reasonable agreement with the measured results. The critical heat flux in tube bundles tended to increase as more bubbles were rising through the tube clearance. © 1998 Scripta Technica, Heat Trans Jpn Res, 27(4): 312–325, 1998  相似文献

The objective of this research is to investigate the heat transfer and pressure loss penalty for various numbers of transverse rows in staggered finned-tube bundles with a single transverse row of the winglet pairs beside the front row of the tube bundles. Experiments were performed for two, three, four and five rows of staggered tube bundles. The pairs of winglets were placed with a heretofore-unused orientation for the purpose of augmentation of heat transfer and reduction of pressure loss penalty. This orientation is called as “common flow up” configuration. For three rows of tubes with a single transverse row of winglets beside the front row of the tubes, the heat transfer was augmented by 30-10%, and yet the pressure loss was reduced by 55-34% with the increase of the Reynolds number (based on two times channel height) from 350 to 2100. The reduction of the pressure loss penalty for three rows of tube bundles is the largest in comparison with the other numbers of rows.  相似文献

An experimental investigation of the heat transfer and pressure drop performance of ten finned tube bundles using serrated fins is presented. All tube bundles had staggered layouts, and the influence on varying tube bundle layout, tube and fin parameters are presented. The heat transfer coefficient experienced a maximum when the flow areas in the transversal and diagonal planes were equal. An increase in the fin pitch increased the heat transfer coefficient; the same was observed with an increase in fin height. The pressure drop coefficient showed no influence of the tube bundle layout for small pitch ratios, but dropped significantly for higher ratios. Increasing fin pitch reduced the pressure drop, whereas varying fin height had insignificant effect. None of the literature correlations were able to reproduce the experiments for the entire range of tested conditions. A set of correlations were developed, reproducing the experimental data to within ±5% at a confidence interval of 95%.  相似文献

Most investigations on forced convective boiling have been conducted by using uniformly heated round tubes under a vertical upward flow condition, although the actual system has a non‐uniformly heated condition with several tube orientations. The non‐uniformity of the heat flux and tube inclination causes the liquid film distribution, which in turn affects the critical heat flux. In this investigation, the flow and heat‐transfer characteristics were experimentally investigated under non‐uniformly heated conditions along the circumferential direction with a 45° tube inclination. In the experiment, CHF was measured by using two different heated lengths, i.e., 900 and 1800 mm. The experimental results showed a unique tendency of CHF caused by the interrelationship of the non‐uniform heat flux distribution, the tube inclination, and liquid film redistribution. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A theoretical study was performed to investigate the evaporative heat transfer of high‐velocity two‐phase flow of air–water in a small vertical tube under both heating conditions of constant wall temperature and constant heat flux. A simplified two‐phase flow boundary layer model was used to evaluate the evaporative heat transfer characteristics of the annular two‐phase flow. The analytical results show that the gravitational force, the gas–liquid surface tension force, and the inertial force are much smaller than the frictional force and hence can be neglected for a small tube. The evaporative heat transfer characteristics of the small tube with constant wall temperature are quite close to those of the small tube with constant heat flux. The mechanism of the heat transfer enhancement is the forced convective evaporation on the surface of the thin liquid film. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. ln desalinization devices and some heat exchangers making use of low‐quality heat energy, both wall temperatures and heat fluxes of heated tubes are quite low and generally cannot cause boiling in flooded‐type tube bundle evaporators with a large tube spacing. But when the tube spacing is very small, boiling in restricted spaces can occur and induce a higher heat transfer than that of a falling film or pool boiling at the same heat flux. This study investigated experimentally the effects of tube spacing, positions of tubes, and heating status of tubes as well as surface status (smooth and roll‐worked) on boiling in restricted spaces in compact horizontal tube bundle evaporators under atmospheric pressure. The experimental results provide a restricted space boiling database for water in smooth and enhanced surface tube bundles. Of particular importance is information concerning the influence of tube spacing of flooded‐type tube bundle evaporators, especially for the case of zero pitch, when the neighboring tubes are contacting each other. © 2001 Scripta Technica, Heat Trans Asian Res, 30(5): 394–401, 2001  相似文献

A new method of heat transfer enhancement by water crossflow‐induced vibration is presented. A heat transfer element which involves elastic tube bundles has been designed. This system has excellent response characteristics of vibration to the crossflow. A triangular pole device for producing pulsating flow was adopted. This device can induce vibration in a fixed range of frequencies and has a profound influence on heat transfer augmentation. For the constant heat flux boundary condition, experiments are carried out on the heat transfer characteristics of elastic tube bundles augmented by flow‐induced vibration in a water crossflow. Compared with static tube bundles, the out‐tube average convective heat transfer coefficients of the elastic tube bundles are increased by 100–150% under the condition of crossflow‐induced vibration. Dimensionless equations describing the outside heat transfer coefficient for the elastic tube bundles were acquired. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effect of fins on heat transfer around a tube in an aligned‐arranged tube bundle was investigated experimentally, and the obtained results were compared for three arrangements, i.e., single tube, single tube row, and staggered‐arrangement. It was found from the experiment that the effect of fins begins to appear in an aligned‐arrangement with larger fin spacing than in a staggered‐arrangement. The degradation in the local heat transfer coefficient due to fins can be recognized not only on the rear region of the tube, as observed in other arrangements, but also on the frontal region. As a result of this phenomenon, the degradation in the average heat transfer coefficient in an aligned‐arrangement becomes larger than in other arrangements with the same fin spacing. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Boiling heat transfer of R-134a on a porous, plasma-coated tube bundle was investigated experimentally to determine the effects of the number of tube rows and the total tube number. The bundle consists of up to four tubes with a pitch-to-diameter-ratio of 1.33. Heat transfer coefficients for a single tube with a porous copper coating were up to four times higher than for a smooth tube. Observations showed that the plasma coating enhanced the heat transfer coefficient in tube bundles as well. The bundle factor of the coated tube bundle showed a similar, slightly increased trend as the smooth tube bundles. The enhancement effect of the coated tubes decreases to a certain extent with an increasing heat flux and decreasing saturation temperature. However, it is significantly less pronounced than trends that have been reported from other investigations. The aim of a stable enhanced coating was confirmed by long-term experiments with steady results.  相似文献

The effect of the number of tube rows on heat, mass and momentum transfer is experimentally investigated for flat-plate, finned-tube heat exchangers which consist of aluminum fins and copper tubes. Four flat-plate finned-tube heat exchangers are identical except for changes in the number of tube rows (1 to 4). Heat-transfer coefficients for wet and dry surface conditions are obtained for both heating and cooling of moist air flowing over finned tubes. The air velocity was varied from 0.9 to 4 m/s. Heat transfer, Colburn and friction factors are determinated for different tube rows numbers while the Reynolds number were being warried. It is found that the values of Colburn and friction factors for wet surfaces are higher than for dry surfaces and for both conditions the Colburn and friction factors decrease with an increase in the tube row numbers.  相似文献

The convection‐condensation heat transfer of vapor‐gas mixtures in a vertical tube was studied theoretically and experimentally. The effects of the condensation of a small amount of water vapor (8 to 20%) on heat transfer in a vertical tube were discussed. Comparisons show that theoretical solutions obtained through modified film model and experimental results are in good agreement. The results show that the condensation heat transfer of a small amount of water vapor and single‐phase convection heat transfer in the vapor‐gas mixtures are of the same order of magnitude, and these two modes of heat transfer could not be neglected. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In an actual boiling channel, e.g., a boiler water‐tube, the circumferential heat flux is not uniform. Thus, the critical heat flux (CHF) of a non‐uniformly heated tube becomes an important design factor for conventional boilers, especially for a compact water‐tube boiler with a tube‐nested combustor. A small compact boiler is operated under low‐pressure and low‐mass‐flux conditions compared with a large‐scale boiler, thus the redistribution of liquid film strongly affects the characteristics of CHF. In this investigation, non‐uniform heat flux distribution along the circumferential direction was generated by using the Joule heating of SUS304 tubes with the wall thickness distribution. The heated length of test‐section was 900 mm with an inner diameter of 20 mm and an outer diameter of 24 mm. The center of the inner tube surface was shifted by ε=0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 mm from the center of the outer tube surface. The heat flux ratio between maximum and minimum heat flux of these tubes corresponded to 1.0, 1.7, 3.0, and 7.0, respectively. The experimental conditions were as follows: system pressure at 0.3 and 0.4 MPa, mass flux of 10–100kg/(m2s), inlet temperatures at 30° and 80°. The experimental results showed an increase in the critical heat flux substantiated by the existence of the redistribution of the flow. These characteristics are explained by using a concept similar to that of Butterworth's spreading model. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Nucleate pool boiling heat transfer from plasma coated copper tube bundles with porous copper (Cu) immersed in saturated R-134a was experimentally studied. The bundle is composed of 15 tubes (of which the number of heated/instrumented tubes was varied) arranged in four different configurations with a pitch-to-diameter ratio of 1.5. The influences of various parameters, for instance, bundle arrangements and heat flux were clarified. Tests were conducted with both increasing and decreasing the heat flux. The data presented indicated that at low heat fluxes, the vertical-in-line tube bundles have the highest bundle factor. A configuration factor was proposed which can be used to characterize the geometric arrangements of the bundles.  相似文献

Heat transfer for flow boiling of water and critical heat flux (CHF) experiments in a half‐circumferentially heated round tube under low‐pressure conditions were carried out. To clarify the flow patterns in the heated section, experiments in the round tube under the same conditions were also carried out, and their results were compared. The experiments were conducted with atmospheric‐pressure water in test sections with inner diameter D = 6 mm, heated length L = 360 mm, inlet water subcooling ΔTin = 80 K, and mass velocity G from 0 to 2000 kg/(m2·s) for the half‐circumferentially heated round tube and from 0 to 7000 kg/(m2·s) for the full‐circumferentially heated tube. The experimental data demonstrated that the wall temperature near the outlet of the half‐circumferentially heated tube remained almost the same until CHF. It was found that burnout occurred when the flow regime changed from churn flow to annular flow, and the liquid film on the heated wall dried out although liquid film on the unheated wall remained. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Experimental studies of crossflow boiling on a horizontal tube at various in Mass fluxes, local flow qualities and geometric arrangements are investigated. Since abundant information is available for the boiling on a single tube in a pool but it is still not clear whether this information in ay be applicable to tubes in bundles, the present study is therefore performed on three different conditions, namely: (1) a heated tube in a channel; (2) a heated tube in a non-heated, in-line tube bundle; and (3) a heated tube in a heated, in-line tube bundle. The different heat transfer results between a single tube in a channel and a tube in a non-heated bundle, and between a non-heated bundle and a heated bundle are discussed in terms of the different flow field geometry and thermal environment respectively due to the presence of different structures and the heating conditions near the tube. A modified Chen's correlation is established to predict the heat transfer of a single tube in a channel or in a bundle. The correlation is also in good agreement with other data in the literature.  相似文献

An experiment was conducted to obtain heat transfer data in liquid–solid circulating fluidized beds. In the experiment, two kinds of risers were provided, their inner diameter being 24 mm and 12 mm, respectively. Tested particles were of glass and ceramics, having a diameter range from 2.10 to 4.95 mm. Water at ambient conditions was used as the fluidizing liquid. The experimental data showed a trend where the heat transfer coefficient increases gradually with increasing liquid velocity approaching that for a liquid single‐phase flow (“heat transfer enhanced region”), and finally coincides with that for a liquid single‐phase flow (“liquid single‐phase heat transfer region”). The heat transfer coefficient in the heat transfer enhanced region was found to be a function of the slip velocity between liquid and particles. Based on the experimental data, a correlation was proposed for predicting the heat transfer coefficient in the entire region from the heat transfer enhanced region to the liquid single‐phase heat transfer region, which could reproduce the experimental data with an accuracy of ±15%. The proposed correlation agreed well with existing data. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The coupled radiation‐convection heat transfer of high‐temperature participating medium in heated/cooled tubes is investigated numerically. The medium flows in a laminar and fully developed state with a Poiseuille velocity distribution, but the thermal status is developing. By the discrete ordinate method, the nonlinear integrodifferential radiative transfer equation in a cylindrical coordinate form is solved to give the radiative source term in the energy equation of coupled heat transfer. The energy equation is solved by the control volume method. The local Nusselt number and wall heat flux of convection as well as the total wall heat flux are employed to evaluate the influence of radiation heat transfer on convection. The analysis shows that the radiation heat transfer weakens the convection effect, promotes the temperature development, and significantly shortens the tube length with obvious heated/cooled effect. There is an obvious difference between the coupled heat transfer in a heated tube and that in a cooled tube, even though the medium properties are kept constant. The wall emissivity, the medium thermal conductivity and scattering albedo have significant influences on the coupled heat transfer, but the effect of medium scattering phase function is small. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The thermal radiation effects of a high‐temperature developing laminar flow in a tube are investigated numerically. The two‐dimensional steady flow and heat transfer are considered for an absorbing‐emitting gray medium, whose density is dependent on the temperature. The governing equations of the coupled process are simultaneously solved by the discrete ordinate method combined with the control volume method. For a moderate optical thickness, the velocity distribution, the temperature distribution, and the radial heat flux distribution in the medium as well as the heat flux distribution on the tube wall are presented and discussed. The results show that the thermal radiation effects of a high‐temperature medium are significant under a moderate optical thickness. The flow and convective heat transfer are weakened, and the development of temperature distribution is accelerated noticeably. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
