The significance of many-body interactions in the physical adsorption of rare gas atoms on solid surfaces has been investigated. A simple model of the system was considered in which the atoms of the solid and the adsorbed atom were represented by interacting isotropic point dipoles. The fullN-body interaction energy between the adsorbed atom and the solid was calculated exactly to lowest order in the expansion parameter [0(0/)2]/4d 3 (, and 0, 0 are the solid atom's and adsorbed atom's characteristic frequency and polarizability,d is the distance from the surface of the adsorbed atom, and is the number of atoms per unit volume in the solid). The interaction was then evaluated for the adsorption of various rare gas atoms on rare gas solids. It was found that the fullN-body interaction deviated at most by only2 1/2% from the interaction obtained by considering only two-body interactions. In addition, it was found that a finite expansion in two-, three-, ... body expressions may lead to erroneous results for the interaction energy since extensive cancellations occur between successive terms of the series.  相似文献

The effect of increasing lamellar thickness in bulk polychlorotrifluoroethylene (PCTFE) by various methods (annealing and increasing time and temperature of crystallisation) on the parameters of the and relaxations has been studied. For the a relaxation consistent increase in temperature of maximum loss and activation energy with increasing lamellar thickness confirms the strong suggestion of earlier work [6] on oriented specimens and shows that the relaxation arises mainly in the interior of the lamellae with little contribution from the chain folds. No systematic changes in these parameters with increasing lamellar thickness was found for the relaxation and this is explained by the presence of c and a components in crystalline and amorphous regions respectively. The component a (as well as the c one) shows a marked anisotropy in magnitude with respect to the draw direction in oriented specimens relative to the direction of the applied electric field. This implies a lining up of the chain molecules parallel to one another in amorphous regions. The non-existence of analogous short chain compounds and experimental scatter prevented detailed checking of the consistency of the data for the relaxation with the theory for the c-C c model [5].  相似文献

We present experimental results for the thermal resistivity of superfluid 4He along several isobars between saturated vapor pressure and the melting pressure. The measurements are for the temperature range 1–T c(q)/T <t<2×10–5 and the heat-flux range 3<q<70 W/cm2. Here t1–T/T , T is the transition temperature in the limit of zero q, and T c is the transition temperature at finite q. The data suggest that the resistivity has an incipient singularity at T which can be described by the power law =(t/t 0)–(m+) where t 0=(q/q 0) x . However, the singularity is supplanted by the transition to a more highly dissipative phase at T c(q)<T . The results suggest a mild dependence of m+ on the pressure P, but can be described quite well by m+=2.76, x=0.89, and q 0=q 0, 0q 0, 1 P with q 0, 0=401Wcm–2 and q 0, 1=–5.0Wcm–2bars–1. The results imply that the Gorter–Mellink mutual friction exponent m has a value close to 3.46 and is distinctly larger than the classical value m=3.  相似文献

The temperature dependence of superconducting tin, thin-film, narrow bridges has been investigated. NearT c the critical current varies with (1 – T/Tc ), with a distribution of values between 1 and 3/2. It is suggested that the values can be used to characterize the bridges. The microwave enhancement ofI c andT c was measured and these data were compared with a recent theory by Christiansenet al. on the microbridges. We found that their theory gives a correct prediction for the Dayem effect in the bulklike bridges (with =3/2) while their theoretical values for the junction-like bridges (with =1) are not in agreement with our data.Work supported in part by the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

The phases obtained in aluminium bronze (Cu-10Al-4Fe) cast into a permanent mould were investigated. The parameters examined were the pre-heating temperature of the mould and the graphite coating thickness. The phases and 2 were detected as well as the metastable phases and . The intermetallics of the system Fe-Al were obtained in various stoichiometric compositions. The different cooling rates of the casting resulted in two mechanisms of transformation to grains out of the unstable phase, one being nucleation and growth producing needle-shaped grains, the other exhibiting a massive transformation to spherical grains. These two mechanisms determine the changes in the size of the a grains as result of changes in the cooling rate in its various ranges.  相似文献

Summary The use of Mixed models based in Reissner's principle in statics has been found to lead to some desirable simplifications in Finite Element formulations, in particular in plates and shells. Reduced formulations of Reissner's principle such as the one used by Prato have proved to be even more successful. In this paper, a reduction similar to that of Prato is attempted on a mixed elastodynamic variational principle by Karnopp.

Summary The vertical (upwards) flow of an incompressible, Newtonian, viscous, stratified, diffusive, electrically conducting fluid embedded with a uniform magnetic field that is applied in the vertical direction, past a non-conducting sphere is considered. Quasisteady approximation is made allowing for a time dependent buoyancy force. Method of matched asymptotic expansions is employed to obtain the drag exerted on the sphere, for small values of a stratification parameter such that 1,R e 1/3, –1/3,P e 2/3 andR m =O(2/3). The drag is computed for certain typical values of the magnetic interaction parameter and diffusivity parameter. The results reveal the fact that while the stratification and magnetic field have the enhancing effect over the drag, the effect of diffusivity is to decrease it.With 3 Figures  相似文献

From the solution of the Eliashberg equations on the imaginary axis, the thermodynamic properties, specific heat, and critical magnetic field of PdH(D) have been calculated. The Eliashberg kernels 2()F() were constructed using a published value of 2(), and F() was obtained from inelastic neutron scattering data. The results for the specific heat are in good agreement with published experimental data. The critical magnetic field shows a nearly parabolic behavior as a function of temperature, in disagreement with the linear experimental behavior. The deviation function D(t) and the ratios C(T c)/T c and [T c/H c(0)]2 indicate that the PdH(D) system is BCS-like. The functional derivative of T c with respect to changes in the kernel is also calculated. On sabbatical leave from the Instituto de Investigaciones en Materiales, UNAM, Mexico.  相似文献

A theoretical treatment is given of a superconducting reed clamped at one end and performing flexural vibrations in a homogeneous longitudinal magnetic fieldB a. When the flux lines are rigidly pinned the reed behaves like an ideal diamagnet whose bending distorts the external field. This generates a magnetic restoring force (line tension) B a 2 which is independent of the reed thicknessd, whereas the mechanical restoring force (stiffness) is d 3. Therefore, the resonance frequency /2 of a thin superconducting reed increases drastically when a fieldB a is applied, or for a givenB a, when the reed is cooled below its critical temperatureT c. With decreasing pinning strength (characterized by Labusch's parameter ) the resonance frequency decreases, 22pin 2 where pin 2 –1, and an attenuation v –2 occurs due to the viscous motion of flux lines. For larger vibration amplitudes an additional, amplitude-dependent damping h –3 occurs due to the hysteretic losses caused by elastic instabilities during flux motion. On leave from Centro Atómico, Bariloche, Argentina.  相似文献

We report measurements of the local density response inside a quasi 1-D horizontal 3 He fluid layer to a step-like change T of the boundary temperature, where |T| 80 K and much smaller than |T – Tc| where Tc is the critical temperature. These experiments used a new cell design, described in the text, and were carried out along the critical isochore both above and below Tc. The observed temporal and spatial density response (t, z) and its equilibration time are described adequately by the relations developed from the thermodynamic theory of Onuki and Ferrell. We verify that over the temperature range of low stratification, where computer simulations and closed-form calculations can be compared, they are in exact agreement. The systematic differences of experimental results from predictions can be accounted for by the departure of the cell from the ideal 1-D geometry. The much larger disagreement between the experimental and predicted equilibration time scale in earlier experiments is also explained. Finally, deviations from linearity observed in the density response for steps |T| larger than 90 K are reported and the implications of such nonlinearity for the (t, z) profile and especially the effective relaxation time eff are analyzed. We also discuss the predicted onset of convection near Tc for the conditions in our experiment. In the Appendix, the likely sources for systematic deviations in the density response function for the experimental cell from calculations in the ideal 1-D geometry are presented and their effects calculated. The so-obtained response function ZF(, z) is compared with previously published data.  相似文献

The copper isotope effect (63Cu —65Cu) was investigated for oxygen-deficient YBa2Cu3O7– with transition temperatures between 40 and 91 K. The isotope exponent Cu=–nTc/nmCu is negative for all transition temperatures. It is small, Cu–0.14, in the 60 K plateau, and unobservable for Tc=91 K. In regions away from these special conditions, Cu reaches large values of up to Cu=–0.4.  相似文献

A scaled equation of state is proposed for real fluids in the critical region which incorporates asymmetry with respect to the critical isochore. In the range of reduced densities 0.65(/ c)1.4 and for reduced temperatures (T/T c)1.2, the equation represents P-V-T data for steam within the experimental accuracy.  相似文献

Measurements of the thermal conductivity are reported for an 80%3He-20%4He mixture above the critical point along several isotherms and near-critical isochores, using the same techniques and apparatus described for a study of3He. Using again the assumption that the observed conductivity can be decomposed into a sum of a regular and a singular contribution reg and sing, it is shown that along two near-critical isochores, sing diverges. In particular, along the isochore showing the largest at the phase transition, the divergence is nearly the same as for3He and can be roughly characterized by a simple power law (T-Tc) with 0.58. This observation is contrary to predictions that foresee sing0 asT c is approached. The relaxation times characterizing the attainment of steady state conditions after switching the heat flux on and off show a similar behaviour as a function of reduced temperature as do those for pure3He. This result might indicate a substantial coupling between concentration and entropy diffusion. In the Appendix, the correlation length for3He nearT c is calculated from heat conductivity, viscosity, and specific heat data.Work supported by Grant DMR 8024056 of the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

We present results of a thermodynamic analysis for the superconductors compounds BaPb0.7Bi0.3O3 and Ba0.7K0.3BiO3. The physical quantities are calculated making use of the Eliashberg theory and the electron-phonon spectra 2()F() as calculated by Shirai et al. For the superconductor BaPb0.7Bi0.3O3, several models of the 2()F() were studied looking for a better agreement with experimental data. The best fit is achieved with a simple constant scaling (C = 1.25) of the Shirai's spectra. The functional derivative of the deviation function D(t) with respect to changes in 2()F() is also calculated.  相似文献
