Some proof that politics and culture bear direct influence on innovation in bridge design comes from post-World War II Germany, which has promoted structural innovations through bridge design competitions. The design competition is a realistic policy tool for encouraging engineers to design structures creatively. This paper presents a case study of one recent competition for a bridge in Ingolstadt, Germany, to demonstrate in detail the competition's organization. The paper explains the conceptual design process for the winning bridge, and gives a simple structural explanation that illuminates the fitness of the early design process for conceiving structural innovations.  相似文献

Nursing research programs are important innovations for health services organizations (HSOs). Evidence supports the positive impact that successful programs have on both clinical practice and patient outcomes. In the current era of scarce health care resources, decision makers must be able to accurately judge HSO readiness for nursing research programs to facilitate their success. Judging innovation readiness is an important and complex process for decision makers. An Innovation Readiness Scale (IRS) was developed from research-based HSO contextual cues identified by nurse researchers as supportive of successful hospital-based nursing research programs. The IRS provides decision makers with a measure by which to judge HSO readiness for nursing research programs. Psychometric results are reported from a pilot and actual test of the IRS in two urban acute care settings involved in nursing research program innovation.  相似文献

A conceptual framework has been developed to investigate value innovations within construction companies. A visual metaphor has been defined to model the innovation system where the elements of the model are objectives, strategies, environmental barriers/drivers, and organizational factors. The major idea is that none of the elements of the model alone can explain the innovative capability, and elements as well as their interrelations should be considered concurrently to investigate how the innovation system works in construction companies. An application of the framework has been demonstrated by 11 cases taken from the Turkish construction industry. General findings of the research have been reported as well as specific company examples that demonstrate the major mechanisms of the innovation system. The research findings have revealed that environmental factors can have both hindering and supporting impacts on the innovation system, depending on other elements of the framework. The type of innovations is strongly related to company targets, strategies, strengths/weaknesses, and environmental factors. Moreover, matching of appropriate strategies with organizational properties leads to an increase in innovative capacity.  相似文献
