Primary metabolites (sugars, organic acids) and secondary metabolites (phenolics and carotenoids) were quantified by HPLC in fully ripe fruit of 11 kaki cultivars: ‘Amankaki’, ‘Cal Fuyu’, ‘Fuji’, ‘Hana Fuyu’, ‘Jiro’, ‘O’Gosho’, ‘Tenjin O’Gosho’, ‘Thiene’, ‘Tipo’, ‘Tone Wase’ and ‘Triumph’. Amongst the analysed cultivars, ‘Tone Wase’ stands out as the richest in sugars, particularly glucose, and cultivars ‘Tipo’ and ‘Triumph’ contained the highest amounts of organic acids. Cultivars ‘O’Gosho’, ‘Cal Fuyu’ and ‘Hana Fuyu’ contained the least sugars and cultivar ‘Jiro’ the least organic acids. Amongst the individual phenolic compounds catechin and gallic acid were present in highest concentrations. The predominant carotenoid in both skin and pulp of ripe persimmon fruit was β-carotene, the highest content was measured in skin of cultivar ‘Hana Fuyu’, which also contained the highest level of total carotenoids. In persimmon pulp, much lower values for carotenoids were obtained, particularly in fruit of cultivar ‘Cal Fuyu’.  相似文献

Three advanced raspberry (Rubus idaeus L.) lines from the University of Guelph breeding program (‘88-18’, ‘88-117’, ‘88-134’) and one advanced line from the Quebec fruit breeding program (‘SJR942-7’) were tested for their winter hardiness, fruit quality, horticultural characteristics and antioxidant activity compared to four commercially grown cultivars (‘Festival’, ‘Boyne’, ‘Nova’ and ‘Killarney’) recommended for Quebec. Lines ‘88-18’ from Guelph and ‘SJR942-7’ from Quebec had higher antioxidant activity, larger fruit size, better fruit quality and longer shelf life than all other lines and cultivars tested. The ellagic acid content of ‘SJR942-7’ was approximately two times higher than that of the commercial cultivars grown in Quebec.  相似文献

Fruit from 42 blueberry (Vaccinium spp.) cultivars, including 36 rabbiteye cultivars (Vaccinium ashei Reade), three V. ashei hybrid derivatives, and three northern highbush (Vaccinium corymbosum L.) standards were evaluated for antioxidant capacity, individual flavonoid content, and the contribution of each identified phenolic compound to total antioxidant activity. Considerable variation was found in flavonoid content, antioxidant activity, and their contribution to total antioxidant activity among cultivars. Among 42 blueberry cultivars, the rabbiteye ‘Early May’ contained the highest amount of chlorogenic acid, myricetin 3-arabinoside, quercetin derivatives, and delphinidin-, cyanidin-, petunidin-, and malvidin-basis anthocyanins. ‘Early May’ cultivar also had the highest antioxidant activity (88.2 μmol TE/g fw). ‘Owen’, ‘Bluegem’, ‘Clara’, Climax’, and ‘Centurion’ were among the other rabbiteye cultivars that also had high levels of flavonoids and antioxidant activities. In contrast, the pink-fruited V. ashei hybrid, ‘Pink Lemonade’, had the lowest content of flavonoids and lowest antioxidant activity. The mean flavonoid content and antioxidant activity of rabbiteye cultivars was higher than those among northern highbush and V. ashei hybrids. The antioxidant activity of V. ashei hybrid derivatives was derived mainly from chlorogenic acid, myricetin, and quercetin, which contributed 62.5% of total antioxidant activity, whereas anthocyanins (malvidin, petunidin, delphinidin, and cyanidin) were the main contributors to the antioxidant activity of rabbiteye cultivars (76.2%) and northern highbush standards (76.8%). Blueberry cultivars identified to have high phenolic content and high antioxidant activity could be used as parents for future blueberry breeding programmes to develop new blueberry cultivars with higher antioxidant activity and further improve human health.  相似文献

Changes in the contents of carotenoids and their true retentions (% TR) during the production of puree of Cucurbita moschata ‘Menina Brasileira’ and of Cucurbita maxima ‘Exposição’ pumpkins and the stability of such compounds during 180 days of storage were monitored by liquid chromatography coupled with a photodiode array detector. Cooking caused higher losses than commercial sterilisation. High losses of xanthophylls such as lutein and violaxanthin were noted during processing and storage of pumpkin puree. Such losses show the low stability of these compounds. The major carotenoids, pro-vitamin A carotenes, namely, α-carotene and all-trans-β-carotene for C. moschata ‘Menina Brasileira’ and all-trans-β-carotene for C. maxima ‘Exposição’ obtained high retentions (>75%) after processing. A slight degree of isomerisation of β-carotene was noted in the puree samples, but with low concentrations of cis-isomers. Storage for 180 days did not significantly affect (P ? 0.05) the concentrations of these carotenoids.  相似文献

Leaves and fruits (peel and flesh) of six improved cultivars (‘Mizuho’, ‘Néctar de Cristal’, ‘Mizauto’, ‘Mizumo’, ‘Centenária’ and ‘NE-3’) of loquat (Eriobotrya japonica Lindl.) were studied for their phenolic composition and antioxidant capacity. The analysis by HPLC-DAD-ESI-MS/MS allowed the identification of 18 compounds (8 hydroxycinnamic acid derivatives and 10 flavonoid glycosides). The quantification of the identified compounds revealed distinct profiles amongst the three analysed materials. Loquat leaves exhibited the lowest amounts of phenolics. 3- And 5-caffeoylquinic, and 5-feruloylquinic acids were the major compounds. Generally, ‘Mizauto’ cultivar presented the highest phenolic content. All loquat materials exhibited DDPH scavenging capacity, in a concentration-dependent manner, the leaves being the most active one. This effect seems to be related to the flavonoid content.  相似文献

The fruit quality of ‘Redhaven’ peach [Prunus persica (L.) Basch.] grafted on 11 (Adesoto, Julior, GF 677, Monegro, Barrier 1, Cadaman, MrS 2/5, Ishtara, Penta, Tetra and peach seedling) experimental rootstocks was evaluated in 2008 under replant orchard conditions. Several quality indices [weight, flesh firmness (FF), ground colour measurements, and soluble solids content (SSC)] were measured, and HPLC analysis were performed for numerous chemical parameters (quantification of individual sugars, organic acids, phenolic compounds in skin and in pulp). Total phenolic content and antioxidant capacity in skin and in pulp were also measured. Julior had the heaviest fruit, while Barrier 1 and GF 677 produced fruit lighter in weight. Rootstocks influenced harvest maturity. Monegro produced the least ripe fruit, characterised by high FF, phenolic compounds in the skin and low SSC. Adesoto rootstock resulted in the best overall fruit quality (high values of SSC, individual and total sugar content levels, individual and total organic acids and phenolic compounds in pulp) as well as high total yield. Julior rootstock also produced good quality peach (high values of SSC, individual and total sugars). Cadaman and peach seedling rootstock produced ‘Redhaven’ fruit of the lowest quality, indicated by low values of sugars, organic acids, phenolic compounds in pulp and in skin.  相似文献

The influence of cultivar and picking date on the phenolic content of walnut liqueur was investigated using HPLC with a PDA detector. Ten phenolic compounds, namely gallic, protocatechuic, ellagic, chlorogenic (5-caffeoylquinic), syringic, p-coumaric and sinapic acids, as well as (+)-catechin, 1,4-naphthoquinone and juglone were detected. The walnut liqueur under analysis was made of the cultivars ‘Franquette’ and ‘Elit’, on two sampling dates (June 30th and July 7th). A close interaction between cultivar and sampling date was noticed for most of the phenolics analyzed. The content levels of the main phenolic compounds under investigation were highest in ‘Franquette’ at the end of June and lowest in ‘Elit’ on the second or both sampling dates, except for syringic acid. A strong influence of cultivar choice and picking date was observed. The content levels of most phenolics were higher in liqueur prepared from the cultivar ‘Franquette’, than in ‘Elit’.  相似文献

The physicochemical and phytochemical profile as well as the antioxidant properties of the most important Citrus fruits grown in Cyprus [orange (Citrus sinensis, cv. ‘Valencia’), grapefruit (Citrus paradisi, cvs. ‘White Marsh’, ‘Star Ruby’, ‘Rio Red’) and an interspecific hybrid (Citrus reticulata x Citrus sinensis, cv. ‘Mandora’)] were determined. ‘Valencia’ fruit exhibited the highest phenolic, flavonoid and ascorbic acid content, as well as a higher antioxidant potency, followed by ‘Mandora’ fruit and the three grapefruit cultivars. HPLC indicated significant diversity on flavanones among the examined fruits, while LC-MS analysis revealed the presence of hydroxycinnamic acid derivatives, polymethoxyflavones and a furocoumarin. Overall, this study provides supporting evidence for the superiority of ‘Valencia’ orange fruit as an excellent source of bioactive compounds. In addition, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first study thoroughly describing the phytochemical profile of ‘Mandora’ fruit, an interspecific hybrid cultivated in Cyprus.  相似文献

Consumption of fruits and vegetables has been associated with a healthy state which has been attributed, in part, to their antioxidant capacity. Characterization of the bioactive compounds with antioxidant activity found in fruits cultivated in the tropic is limited. Thus, the objective of the present work was the characterization of phytochemicals and antioxidants of the fruit of black sapote (Diospyros digyna Jacq.). HPLC-DAD-Mass Spectrometry (HPLC-MS) analyses were used to identify and quantify phenolics, carotenoids and tocopherols. Total soluble phenolic content was 247.8 mg GAE/100 g fw (fresh weight). Important phenolics identified were sinapic acid, myricetin, ferulic acid, and catechin. Total carotenoid content was 399.4 ??g of ??-carotene/100 g fw, and ??-carotene and lutein were the main carotenoids identified. ??-Tocopherol concentration was 672.0 ??g/100 g dry weight. Antioxidant capacity as measured by the DPPH and FRAP assays was higher in the hydrophilic than in the lipophilic extract, and it is thought to be due mainly to the phenolic content of this fruit. Results suggest that the fruit of black sapote has an antioxidant capacity comparable to other important fruits, and its inclusion in the diet is therefore recommended.  相似文献

Foliage of coriander crop is a rich source of pro-vitamin-A carotenoids and phenolics of relevance to human health. Foliar-application of plant growth regulators – methyl jasmonate and salicylic acid, differentially elicited total carotenoids, β-carotene, lutein, chlorophylls, total phenolics and chlorogenic acid in coriander, GS4 Multicut and Mahak, the cultivars with high and low carotenoids respectively. Carotenoids and total phenolics increased 6.8 and 3 folds respectively when treated with methyl jasmonate (10 μmol/L), whereas salicylic acid (500 μmol/L) showed 5.4 and 3.5 folds of respective compounds. These treatments also enhanced levels of β-carotene, lutein, chlorophylls and chlorogenic acid, as observed by HPLC/MS analyses. Carotenoid and phenolic extracts of the best treatments showed significant increase in hydroxyl and superoxide radical scavenging antioxidant activities compared with controls. The observations made here indicate that the precise use of plant growth regulators is a simple method for naturally augmenting the nutritionally important compounds in coriander crop.  相似文献

The amount of phenolic acids, flavonoids and betalains in Andean indigenous grains, quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa), kañiwa (Chenopodium pallidicaule) and kiwicha (Amaranthus caudatus), was determined. The total amount of phenolic acids varied from 16.8 to 59.7 mg/100 g and the proportion of soluble phenolic acids varied from 7% to 61%. The phenolic acid content in Andean crops was low compared with common cereals like wheat and rye, but was similar to levels found in oat, barley, corn and rice. The flavonoid content of quinoa and kañiwa was exceptionally high, varying from 36.2 to 144.3 mg/100 g. Kiwicha did not contain quantifiable amounts of these compounds. Only one variety of kiwicha contained low amounts of betalains. These compounds were not detected in kañiwa or quinoa. Our study demonstrates that Andean indigenous crops have excellent potential as sources of health-promoting bioactive compounds such as flavonoids.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to assess the level of some phytochemicals in 19 raspberry cultivars grown in Lithuania. The content of total ellagic acid measured after 20 h acidic hydrolysis of investigated raspberry cultivars, varied from 119.8 (cv. ‘Pokusa’) to 323.5 mg/100 g (cv. ‘Bristol’). The content of total phenolics ranged from 278.6 (cv. ‘Pokusa’) to 714.7 mg/100 g (cv. ‘Bristol’). The total anthocyanins content varied from 2.1 (yellow cv. ‘Beglianka’) to 325.5 mg/100 g (black cv. ‘Bristol’). The radical scavenging capacity of the tested raspberry cultivars highly correlating with their total phenolics and total ellagic acid content (r = 0.90 and 0.92, respectively). The results of this study expand the knowledge about variation in the content of valuable bioactive compounds in raspberries and may help for the selection and validation of the most productive cultivars.  相似文献

In whole hazelnut kernels, as the main product of hazelnut (Corylus avellana L.), phenols were analysed in 20 hazelnut cultivars by high-performance liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC–MS). Twenty-three compounds from different phenolic groups were detected, and 15 of them were identified. In hazelnut kernels, these substances were detected: nine flavan-3-ols, two benzoic acids (gallic and protocatechuic acid), three flavonols and phloretin glycoside. Total phenol concentrations ranged from 70 to 478 mg gallic acid equivalents per kg hazelnut kernels. A high content level of total phenols was observed in the ‘Tonda Gentile delle Langhe’ and ‘Lewis’ cultivars, which was followed by the ‘Corabel’, ‘Fertile de Coutard’, ‘Daria’ and ‘Tonda Gentile Romana’ cultivars. Similarly, the highest antioxidative activity, measured by employing DPPH-antiradical assay, was also found in the ‘Tonda Gentile delle Langhe’ cultivar, followed by the ‘Fertile de Coutard’.  相似文献

Seven primocane fall-bearing raspberry (Rubus idaeus L.) cultivars, Nova (red), Dinkum (red), Heritage (red), Autumn Britten (red), Josephine, Anne (yellow), Fall Gold (yellow) were analysed for potential health promoting properties including their inhibitory effect on starch and fat digestive enzymes, antioxidant activities, and phenolic composition. The tested raspberry extracts showed no detectable inhibition of pancreatic α-amylase and lipase. However, all the extracts exhibited potent inhibition of α-glucosidase with IC50 from 16.8 to 34.2 μg/mL. Four phenolic compounds, ellagic acid, cyanidin-diglucoside, pelargonidin-3-rutinoside, and catechin were identified as the active α-glucosidase inhibitors. The raspberry extracts also possessed significant antioxidant activities with oxygen radical absorbance capacities (ORAC) ranging from 136.7 to 205.2 μmol Trolox equivalents (TE)/g dry weight fruit and DPPH radical scavenging activities from 305 to 351 μmol TE/g. The total phenolic content of raspberry cultivars varied significantly from 40.9 to 98.5 mg of gallic acid equivalents/g dry weight. The anthocyanin content varied widely from 0.1 to 9.5 mg cyanidin 3-glucoside equivalents/g. Nine phenolic acids were quantified in raspberries and their total amounts varied from 157.3 to 713.5 μg/g. The enzyme inhibition and antioxidant properties of raspberry cultivars were not correlated with their total phenolic, anthocyanin, and phenolic acid content. Overall, ‘Dinkum’ and ‘Josephine’ raspberry varieties possess higher total phenolic content, ORAC, DPPH radical scavenging activity, and α-glucosidase inhibitory activity than other five cultivars.  相似文献

Mango (Mangifera indica L.) is an economically important fruit throughout the world. ‘Ataulfo’ mango, a leading cultivar in Mexico, has the highest content of phenolic compounds among several commercial varieties of mango. However, the individual identification and antioxidant contribution of these phenols during ripening of mango fruit is unknown. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of the major phenolic compounds found in ‘Ataulfo’ mango fruit pulp was conducted in four stages of ripeness, using high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry. The antioxidant contribution of each of the major phenolic compounds was calculated. The major compounds identified were chlorogenic acid (28–301 mg/100 g DW), gallic acid (94.6–98.7 mg/100 g DW), vanillic acid (16.9–24.4 mg/100 g DW), and protocatechuic acid (0.48–1.1 mg/100 g DW). The antioxidant contribution of the four phenolic acids increased during ripening. Gallic acid accounted for the highest contribution (39% maximum value), followed by chlorogenic acid (21% maximum value). This could indicate that these phenolic compounds may have an important role in the antioxidant metabolism in ‘Ataulfo’ mango fruit during ripening, and promoting health benefits to consumers.  相似文献

Ten genotypes, cultivated and wild of Cynara cardunculus L. were evaluated for their content of phenolic acids, flavonoids and their antioxidant activity. The major compounds present in the leaf were luteolin derivatives in globe artichoke and apigenin derivatives in wild and cultivated cardoon. Apart from ‘Cimiciusa di Mazzarino’ (var. scolymus), caffeoylquinic acids represent the main phenolic compounds in the floral stem. In particular, ‘Sylvestris Creta’ (var. sylvestris) and ‘Violetto di Sicilia’ (var. scolymus) show the highest content of caffeoylquinic acid ∼95% of the total measured polyphenols. The antioxidant capacity, in both leaf and floral stem, was qualitatively and quantitatively dependent on the phenolic acid and flavonoid profile. The phenolic acids and flavonoids in normally uneaten parts of wild and cultivated artichoke could be exploited as sources of natural antioxidants.  相似文献

Pomegranate juice is well known for its health beneficial compounds. This study was undertaken to investigate changes in the major chemical composition in arils and peels during fruit maturation in two Israeli commercial accessions, ‘Wonderful’ and ‘Rosh-Hapered.’ In both accessions, the levels of total phenolic, antioxidant activity and hydrolysable tannins were reduced in the peels during maturation, while the anthocyanin level increased. The results show that the sugar content in the aril juice increased in both accessions while the levels of acidity and of citric acid decreased. However, these two accessions differed in other parameters in the aril juice, i.e., while the antioxidant and total phenolic contents significantly decreased in ‘Rosh-Hapered’, these changes were not observed in ‘Wonderful’. The anthocyanin level, however, increased in ‘Wonderful’ but did not change in ‘Rosh-Hapered.’ This knowledge could help establish the optimum harvest date ensuring the maximum nutritional properties of pomegranates.  相似文献

Major chloroplast pigments in five leafy vegetables (chicory-Cichorium intybus, cv. ‘Anivip’ and cv. ‘Monivip’, dandelion-Taraxacum officinale, garden rocket-Eruca sativa and wild rocket-Diplotaxis tenuifolia), commonly consumed in Mediterranean countries, have been separated by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) on a reversed-phase column. Three classes of pigments were identified and quantified: xanthophylls (oxygenated carotenoids), carotenes (hydrocarbon carotenoids) and chlorophylls. The contents of the pigments in the analysed leafy vegetables varied significantly. The results indicated that selected leafy vegetables were moderately rich in xanthophylls, primarily lutein (3.87–7.44 mg/100 g fwt). Other xanthophylls were detected in relatively small quantities. The provitamin A carotenoids (α- and β-carotene) were also detected, but α-carotene were not present in chicory cultivars and in dandelion. The ratio of chlorophyll a/b varied from 2.44 to 2.67 depending on the species. The highest content of all the analysed constituents was found in the garden rocket.  相似文献

Changes in total phenolics, antioxidant activity (AOX), carotenoids, capsaicin and ascorbic acid were monitored during three maturity stages in 10 genotypes of sweet pepper. In an attempt to explain the variations during maturity stages (green, intermediate and red/yellow), the data was expressed both on fresh and dry weight basis. All the antioxidant constituents (phenolics, ascorbic acid and carotenoids) and AOX, when expressed on fresh weight basis in general, showed an overall increasing trend during maturity in all the genotypes studied. On dry weight basis, phenolic content declined in majority of the genotypes during maturity to red stage. This decline was significant (P<0.05) in Parker, Torkel, HA-1038 and Flamingo. Genotype Flamingo and Golden Summer had the highest phenolic content of 852.0 mg 100 g−1 and 720.5 mg 100 g−1, at their final red and yellow maturity stages, respectively. With maturation, most of the cultivars showed a declining trend with regard to capsaicin content while total carotenoids and β-carotene content increased significantly. Anupam was a promising genotype in terms of both total carotenoids and β-carotene content. Ascorbic acid content declined progressively with advancing maturity. Genotype HA-1038 had the maximum content (3030 mg 100 g−1 dwb) at the green stage. AOX in general, increased with maturity and registered a 1.30-1.95fold increase from green to red stage. The study proposes the nutritional significance of consuming sweet peppers at the red maturity stage because of enhanced functional properties. Overall genotype Flamingo and Anupam represent superior genotypes for both nutrition and germplasm improvement.  相似文献

‘Sikitita’ is a new olive cultivar developed in Spain by crossing the cultivars ‘Picual’ and ‘Arbequina’. The phenolic fraction of olive leaves (Olea europaea L.), is purported to have good anti-oxidative properties which help to prevent several health problems. To our knowledge, no studies are available on the phenolic fraction of ‘Sikitita’ olive leaves or any other new cultivar developed from breeding. Thus, the identification and quantification of the phenolic fraction of ‘Sikitita’ olive leaves by HPLC-DAD-MS were studied and compared with those of its parent cultivars. The three cultivars were grown under the same agronomic and environmental conditions in the same orchard. The quantification was performed using HPLC-DAD, whereas qualitative data were acquired using HPLC-MS. It was thus possible to identify 30 different compounds, two of which have been tentatively characterized for the first time in olive leaves of Spanish cultivars. Significant differences between cultivars were observed for almost all the compounds. Results for ‘Sikitita’ olive leaves presented a higher degree of similarity with respect to ‘Picual’ than to ‘Arbequina’. Further work will monitor the time course of phenolic compounds over the growth period.  相似文献
