Flexible Labour Strategy in the Dutch Automotive Industry

Labour flexibility is a major way for companies to become more flexible. Why companies use flexible labour relations varies widely per industry. We assess the development of labour flexibility within the Dutch automotive industry. Four cases, together representing the production chain, are presented. We show how and why these companies arrived at the high level of sophistication in labour relations they currently have and what combinations of internal and external, numerical and functional forms have emerged. The process has been one of trial and error, characterised by emerging rather than deliberate strategy. It has a clear pattern over time. In three out of our four companies, an innovative labour use strategy emerged, finely tuned to market demands, new institutional realities and specific company needs.     

Information technology and structural change in the paper and pulp industry : Some technological, organizational and managerial implications

The paper and pulp industry has experienced a structural change during the last 15 years. The products have differentiated and completely new paper types have been introduced. The standard and classical products, like news print paper, are often specialized and customized versions from the standard product in order to fulfill the specific needs of different printing processes better. These changes have impacted on the production organization and structures of enterprises. The key companies have acquired more production capacity in different countries and have become really international companies. These trends are likely to continue. One of the technological driving forces has been the applying of information technology. The digital process automation systems as well as the mill wide information systems have been strategic tools and technological corner stones in the structural change. However, it is only technology which matters. Also new organisational forms as well as new implementation methods of systems are needed.

Prioritization and selection of intellectual capital measurement indicators using analytic hierarchy process for the mobile telecommunications industry

Intellectual capital (IC) has prevailed as a measure of core competency and competitive advantage which explains the gap between the market value and book value of an organization at a time of decreasing usefulness of current financial reporting. In spite of the importance of IC management (ICM), few applicable ICM methodologies have been addressed. There has been no basis model for IC statements, nor bottom-line indicators of the value of IC. The selection of effective IC indicators is a major task of the companies that are preparing IC reports. This paper has proposed a decision model based on the analysis of the conceptual framework of the qualitative characteristics of financial information and an examination of information quality of the information system. The application of the analytic hierarchy process makes it possible to extract weights for setting the priority among criteria in the mobile telecommunications industry. During the last decade, this industry has experienced a dramatic growth in its intellectual value, and the value of IC seems to have had a major impact on the value of the mobile telecommunications companies. Based on specified criteria and weighting, this paper presents the results of a case study illustrating the results of selected indicators from candidate indicators in the mobile telecommunications company.

随着集成电路产业的飞速发展,高集成度、高可靠性已经成为行业的新潮流。在这种趋势的推动下,SMT(表面贴装技术)在中国也得到了进一步的推广和发展。很多公司在生产和研发中已经大量应用了SMT工艺和表面贴装元器件。在SMT工艺中回流焊接是核心工艺,因为表面组装PCB设计,焊膏印刷和元器件贴装产生的缺陷,最终都将集中表现在焊接中。因此,如果没有合理可行的回流焊接工艺,前面任何工艺控制都将失去意义。     

面向预拌混凝土行业的云计算

云计算是未来企业信息化的发展趋势,在各行业中已有了一定的研究或应用,但在预拌混凝土行业还鲜有研究。针对预拌混凝土企业信息化建设中对数据存储、整合、挖掘等方面需求的不断提高,将云计算运用于建设预拌混凝土企业信息平台,提出了面向混凝土行业的云计算,以实现信息平台资源虚拟化、大数据存储与并行计算处理。结合Hadoop云计算技术,设计了云计算信息平台构架,给出了几种云计算下的应用模式,并通过实例验证了平台的可行性,分析了应用效果。     

Usage and evaluation of Supply Chain Management Software – results of an empirical study in the European automotive industry

Abstract. This paper presents an evaluation of Supply Chain Management Software. For this purpose, we conducted an empirical study in the European automotive industry among car manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, and logistic service providers from 25 countries. In particular, we analysed the objectives these companies are trying to achieve by using Supply Chain Management Software and evaluated to what extent these objectives have been accomplished. Our results show that the companies have been able to reduce both their costs and lead times and to improve their service levels. The survey also reveals, however, that until now, the cooperative potential of Supply Chain Management Software has not been utilized effectively.
