A simple scheme for generation of high power in the midinfrared is demonstrated. By using a 15 W thulium-doped fiber laser emitting at 1907 nm to pump a Q-switched Ho:YAG laser, we obtained 9.8 W at 2096 nm at a 20 kHz pulse repetition rate with excellent beam quality. The output of this laser was used to pump a doubly resonant zinc germanium phosphide based optical parametric oscillator, and we obtained 5.1 W average power in the 3-5 microm range with M2 approximately = 1.8.  相似文献

A diode-laser-pumped neodymium-doped fiber laser is presented. For a launched pump power of 85 mW, the fiber laser had a cw output power of 43 mW, which is approximately an order of magnitude greater output power than any previously reported diode-pumped neodymium fiber laser operating on the(4)F(3/2)-(4)I(9/2) transition, which covers the 900-950-nm region. The fiber laser had a threshold power of 10 mW and a slope efficiency of 58% with respect to launched pump power. Tuning with a diffraction grating was obtained from 896 to 937 nm with narrow-band output powers as high as 32 mW. Emission was also obtained at 939.5 nm with use of a fiber Bragg grating as the output reflector.  相似文献

A multi-wavelength Brillouin/erbium-doped fiber laser (BEFL) operating in the 1573 nm region is proposed and demonstrated. The system employs both linear and nonlinear gain from a bismuth-based erbium-doped fiber (Bi-EDF) approximately 215 cm long and a single mode fiber (SMF) of various lengths to generate an optical comb with a spacing of approximately 0.089 nm. Two 3 dB couplers were used to form a looping arm in the system in order to produce cascaded Brillouin Stokes waves as internal feedback for multi-wavelength operation. A stable output laser comb with 10 lines at more than ??13 dBm was obtained with 4.85 dBm Brillouin pump power and two 140 mW pumps at 1480 nm. The 1480 nm pumps' power and SMF length have a significant effect on the number of wavelengths and on the output power of the generated wavelength comb.  相似文献

We demonstrate a multicore multidopant fiber which, when pumped with a single pump source around approximately 800 nm, emits a more than one octave-spanning fluorescence spectrum ranging from 925 to 2300 nm. The fiber preform is manufactured from granulated oxides and the individual cores are doped with five different rare earths, i.e., Nd3+, Yb3+, Er3+, Ho3+, and Tm3+.  相似文献

Simulations are presented of a very broad and flat supercontinuum (SC) in both the normal and anomalous group velocity dispersion regimes of the same equiangular spiral photonic crystal fiber at low pumping powers. For a pump wavelength at 1557?nm and average pump power of 11.2?mW, we obtained a bandwidth >3?μm (970?nm–4100?nm) at 40 dB below the peak spectral power with fiber dispersion ~2.1?ps/km nm at 1557?nm. In the same fiber, at pump wavelength 1930?nm and average pump power of 12?mW the SC bandwidth was more than two octaves (1300?nm–3700?nm) and dispersion was ~1.3?ps/km nm at 1930?nm. This demonstrates the potential use of the fiber for multi-wavelength pumping with commercially available sources at fairly low power.  相似文献

The characteristics of the performance of a diode-cladding-pumped Yb3+, Ho(3+)-doped silica fiber laser are presented. To our knowledge this in the first demonstration of a Yb3+, Ho(3+)-doped fiber laser, and a maximum output power of 0.85 W was achieved for a launched pump power of 10.9 W. For launched pump powers < 7 W, the slope efficiency was approximately 12.5%. Visible fluorescence emission with peaks at approximately 485, approximately 550, and approximately 660 nm measured at the output from the laser suggests that excited-state absorption and energy-transfer upconversion losses may impair the functioning of the laser. Increasing the Yb3+ and Ho3+ concentrations and the Yb3+:Ho3+ concentration ratio may lead to an improvement in the overall efficiency of the device.  相似文献

We demonstrate a dual-band continuum light source centered at 830 and 1300 nm for optical coherence tomography (OCT) generated by pumping a photonic crystal fiber having two closely spaced zero-dispersion wavelengths with a femtosecond laser at 1059 nm. By use of polarization control, sidelobe suppression can be improved up to approximately 7.7 dB. By employing compression of the pump pulses, the generated spectrum is smooth and near-Gaussian, resulting in a point-spread function with negligible sidelobes. We demonstrate ultrahigh-resolution OCT imaging of biological tissue in vivo and in vitro using this light source and compare it with conventional-resolution OCT imaging at 1300 nm.  相似文献

Broadband and dual-broadband coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) are widely established tools for nonintrusive gas diagnostics. Up to now the investigations have been mainly performed for electronic nonresonant conditions of the gas species of interest. We report on the enhancement of the O2-N2 detection limit of dual-broadband pure rotational CARS by shifting the wavelength of the narrowband pump laser from the commonly used 532-266 nm. This enhancement is caused when the Schumann-Runge absorption band is approached near 176 nm. The principal concept of this experiment, i.e., covering the Raman resonance with a single- or dual-broadband combination of lasers in the visible range and moving only the narrowband probe laser near or directly into electronic resonant conditions in the UV range, should also be applicable to broadband CARS experiments to directly exploit electronic resonance effects for the purpose of single-shot concentration measurements of minority species. To quantify the enhancement in O2 sensitivity, comparative measurements at both a 266 and a 532 nm narrowband pump laser wavelength are presented, employing a 4-dicyanomethylene-2-methyl-6-(p-dimethylaminostyryl)-4H-pyram (DCM) dye laser as a broadband laser source at 635 nm. An increase of approximately equal to 13% in the ratio of the rotational CARS cross sections of O2 and N2 was obtained. The broad spectral width of the CARS excitation profile was approximately equal for both setups. Further enhancement should be achievable by shifting the narrowband pump laser closer toward 176 nm, for example, with a frequency-doubled optical parametric oscillator or an excimer laser. The principal concept of this experiment should also be applicable to broadband CARS experiments to directly exploit electronic resonance effects of the narrowband pump laser with electronic transitions of minority species for the purpose of single-shot concentration measurements of those species.  相似文献

Experimental results relating to the gain-switched operation of a double-clad Yb3+,Er(3+)-doped silica fiber laser that is pulse pumped with the output from a flash-lamp-pumped Ti:sapphire laser are presented. For all the configurations of the fiber laser that we studied, the 2F5/2-->2F7/2 laser transition of the Yb3+ ion lased prior to laser emission from the 4I13/2-->4I15/2 transition of the Er3+ ion. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported operation of sequence lasing in the Yb3+,Er(3+)-codoped system. This succession of laser pulses deduced from the measurements of this investigation is a consequence of both the short intense pump pulse and the short 900-nm wavelength of the pump that does not overlap with any important excited-state absorption transitions. We believe that the predominant interionic interaction during the course of the pump pulse is the double-energy transfer to the Er3+ ion acting twice from the 2F5/2 energy level of the Yb3+ donor ion. A maximum total output of 1.65 mJ is obtained (1.38 mJ from the 2F5/2-->2F7/2 transition of Yb3+ and 0.27 mJ from the 4I13/2-->4I15/2 transition of Er3+) from a nonoptimized configuration of the fiber laser. The wavelength of the output from the fiber laser was measured to vary approximately linearly with fiber length from 1040 to 1046 nm for the Yb(3+)-based laser and 1535 to 1541 nm for the Er(3+)-based laser.  相似文献

A means of supercontinuum (SC) generation is proposed and demonstrated, using femtosecond mode-locked pulses with sub-megahertz repetition rate based on the nonlinear polarization rotation technique. Total cavity length is approximately 522?m, which includes an additional 500?m single mode fiber (SMF) and the fundamental repetition rate obtained is 404.5?kHz. The mode-locked spectrum has a central wavelength of approximately 1600?nm and a 3?dB bandwidth of 16?nm, which falls within the L-band region. The threshold power for the mode-locked operation is achieved at approximately 52?mW. At pump power of 74?mW, the measured pulse width, pulse energy, and average output power are 70?fs, 18.3?nJ and 7.4?mW respectively. The generated pulses are amplified by a 72.44?mW erbium-doped fiber amplifier before being injected into a 100?m long highly non-linear fiber as the nonlinear medium to generate the SC spectrum. The obtained SC spectrum spans from 1250?nm to more than 1700?nm, with bandwidths of 450?nm at a ?70?dBm output power level. For comparison purpose, the 500?m SMF is removed from the setup and similar measurements are then repeated for this case.  相似文献

A new multi-wavelength Brillouin erbium fiber laser (BEFL), which operates in the L-band region with double frequency Brillouin spacing, is demonstrated. This design uses a Raman pump (RP) and a piece of 2?km highly nonlinear fiber as a gain medium. The double frequency spacing is achieved by employing a dual ring configuration, which is formed by utilizing a four-port circulator that removes the odd-order Stoke signals. Twenty Stokes and seventeen anti-Stokes lines, which have optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR) greater than 15?dB, are generated simultaneously with a spacing of 0.16?nm when Brillouin pump and RP powers were fixed at the optimum values of 8 dBm and 40?mW, respectively. The BEFL can be tuned in the range between 1591?nm to 1618?nm. The proposed configuration increases the number of lines generated and the OSNR, and thus allows a compact multi-wavelength laser source to be realized.  相似文献

A simple fiber laser configuration based on a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) is proposed for obtaining multi-wavelength oscillation at room temperature, in which a Sagnac loop mirror is used as the wavelength selective component. The SOA has a flat gain of approximately 23dB within a bandwidth of 12 nm at a small input signal power. The loop mirror was constructed using a 3dB coupler and polarization maintaining fiber (PMF). The output spectrum of the proposed laser can be adjusted by controlling the bias current of the SOA and is quite stable at room temperature. At a bias current of 150 mA, six lines are obtained with at least ?40 dBm output power and 25dB signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). The channel spacing and number of lines is determined by the length of polarization maintaining fiber (PMF) used in the loop mirror. The channel spacing of the proposed laser is 1.49 nm with a PMF 3 m. The multi-wavelength comb output can also be tuned by adjusting the operating temperature of the SOA. The multi-wavelength laser has the advantage of a simple configuration, stability at room temperature, a broad wavelength band, and no need for optical pump lasers.  相似文献

Two modes of liquid-phase microextraction (LPME) combined with hollow fiber (HF) were developed for gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Both methodologies, that is, static LPME with HF and dynamic LPME with HF, involved the use of a small volume of organic solvent impregnated in the hollow fiber, which was held by the needle of a conventional GC syringe. In static LPME/HF, the hollow fiber impregnated with solvent was immersed in the aqueous sample, and the extraction processed under stirring; in dynamic LPME/HF, the solvent was repeatedly withdrawn into and discharged from the hollow fiber by a syringe pump. This is believed to be the first reported instance of a semiautomated liquid microextraction procedure. The performance of the two techniques was demonstrated in the analysis of two PAH compounds in an aqueous sample. Static LPME/HF provided approximately 35-fold enrichment in 10 min and good reproducibility (approximately 4%). Dynamic LPME/HF could provide higher enrichment (approximately 75-fold) in 10 min and even better reproducibility (approximately 3%). Both methods allow the direct transfer of extracted analytes to a GC/MS system for analysis.  相似文献

In this presentation, we report the results of spectral characteristics of amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) from a newly Er3+-doped tellurite fiber with D-shape cladding. When pumped at 980 nm, an erbium ASE source that has nearly a flatten FWHM bandwidth of 100 nm is obtained in the D-shape cladding erbium-doped tellurite fiber with 30–60 cm length. The changes in ASE with regard to pumping power and fiber lengths were measured. Output power up to 2.0 mW is obtained with a total pump power of 660 mW.  相似文献

We built a transient absorption spectrophotometer that can determine transient absorption spectral changes that occur at times as fast as approximately 200 ns and as slow as a minute. The transient absorption can be induced by a temperature-jump (T-jump) or by optical pumping from the deep ultraviolet (UV) to the infrared (IR) by use of single ns Nd:YAG laser pulses. Our use of a fiber-optic spectrometer coupled to a XeF flashlamp makes the collection of transient spectra easy and convenient in the spectral range from the near IR (1700 nm) down to the deep UV (200 nm), with high signal-to-noise (S/N) ratios. The spectral resolution is determined by the specific configuration of the fiber-optic spectrometer (grating groove density, fiber diameter, slit width) and varies between 0.3 and 10 nm. The utility of this spectrometer was demonstrated by measuring the rate at which a polymerized crystalline colloidal array (PCCA) of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) nanogel particles optically switch light due to a T-jump induced by nanosecond 1.9 microm laser pulses. In addition, we measured the rate of optical switching induced by a 3 ns 355 nm pump pulse in PCCA functionalized with azobenzene.  相似文献

A simple multi-wavelength passively Q-switched Erbium-doped fiber laser (EDFL) is demonstrated using low-cost multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs)-based saturable absorber, which is prepared using polyvinyl alcohol as a host polymer. The multi-wavelength operation is achieved based on non-linear polarization rotation effect by incorporating 50?m long photonic crystal fiber in the ring cavity. The EDFL produces a stable multi-wavelength comb spectrum for more than 14 lines with a fixed spacing of 0.48?nm. The laser also demonstrates a stable pulse train with the repetition rate increasing from 14.9 to 25.4?kHz as the pump power increases from the threshold power of 69.0?mW to the maximum pump power of 133.8?mW. The minimum pulse width of 4.4?μs was obtained at the maximum pump power of 133.8?mW while the highest energy of 0.74 nJ was obtained at the pump power of 69.0?mW.  相似文献

An adaptive simulated annealing optimization algorithm is used to derive laser rate equation and waveguiding models with which the best design for a diode-pumped fiber-coupled, Yb:Er glass waveguide laser can be determined. Material parameters that correspond to commercially available laser-glass and diode-pump sources are used in this study. Given a continuous-wave 300-mW pump at 977 nm, approximately 48 mW of power at 1540 nm can be coupled into the LP(01) mode of an optical fiber. Fabrication and alignment tolerance analyses are presented.  相似文献

Ballistic electrical currents are optically injected into aligned single-walled carbon nanotubes and bulk graphite at 300 K via quantum interference between single and two photon absorption of phase-related 700 and 1400 nm, 150 fs pulses. The transient currents are detected via the emitted terahertz radiation. Optical phase and power dependence are consistent with the quantum interference optical process. Under similar excitation conditions, the peak current for a forest of nanotubes, with a diameter distribution of approximately 2.5 +/- 1.5 nm, is 9 +/- 1 times larger than that in graphite. At peak focused intensities of 10 GW cm(-2) (1400 nm) and 0.15 GW cm(-2) (700 nm), the peak current is approximately 1 nA per nanotube. The peak current for pump light polarized along the tubes is approximately 3.5 times higher than that for light polarized perpendicular to the tubes.  相似文献
