This paper describes a laboratory developed to accompany a course in communications theory. The laboratory program is based on the use of building block modules, corresponding to the standard elements found in communication systems. The use of such modules enables the students to model complete systems without becoming involved in detailed problems of circuit design. Objectives
We assessed the use of high-resolution ultra-high-field diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (dMRI) to determine neuronal fiber orientation density functions (fODFs) throughout the human brain, including gray matter (GM), white matter (WM), and small intertwined structures in the cerebellopontine region.Materials and methods
We acquired 7-T whole-brain dMRI data of 23 volunteers with 1.4-mm isotropic resolution; fODFs were estimated using constrained spherical deconvolution.Results
High-resolution fODFs enabled a detailed view of the intravoxel distributions of fiber populations in the whole brain. In the brainstem region, the fODF of the extra- and intrapontine parts of the trigeminus could be resolved. Intrapontine trigeminal fiber populations were crossed in a network-like fashion by fiber populations of the surrounding cerebellopontine tracts. In cortical GM, additional evidence was found that in parts of primary somatosensory cortex, fODFs seem to be oriented less perpendicular to the cortical surface than in GM of motor, premotor, and secondary somatosensory cortices.Conclusion
With 7-T MRI being introduced into clinical routine, high-resolution dMRI and derived measures such as fODFs can serve to characterize fine-scale anatomic structures as a prerequisite to detecting pathologies in GM and small or intertwined WM tracts.14.

We developed a high‐speed telecommunication system for use on railways to improve customer service and the efficiency of operator's telecommunications between ground facilities and trains under operation. We built a mobile telecommunication system, capable of achieving a transfer rate of 1 Gbps in theory, by utilizing laser beam communications technology. We carried out a field test using trains in active service, and obtained results in which a transfer rate of approximately 700 Mbps in the TCP layer was achieved between the ground and a train running at a speed of approximately 130 km/h . 相似文献

This paper extends knowledge of disaster impact on the telecommunications power infrastructure by discussing the effects of Hurricane Katrina based on an on-site survey conducted in October 2005 and on public sources. It includes observations about power infrastructure damage in wire-line and wireless networks. In general, the impact on centralized network elements was more severe than on the distributed portion of the grids. The main cause of outage was lack of power due to fuel supply disruptions, flooding and security issues. This work also describes the means used to restore telecommunications services and proposes ways to improve logistics, such as coordinating portable generator set deployment among different network operators and reducing genset fuel consumption by installing permanent photovoltaic systems at sites where long electric outages are likely. One long term solution is to use of distributed generation. It also discusses the consequences on telecom power technology and practices since the storm. 相似文献

Surges of current in the polarization and depolarization curves for living tissue refer to trapped charges on domain boundaries within the cytoplasm or on cell membranes. An electric field is shown to provoke an elastic deformation of living cells with a relaxation nature. The diagram of a cell with domains of neutral-normal and polarized-excited states is described. An electromechanical model with an inertial element is used to describe the cooperative correlation between domains. A new technique of voltage-stimulated polarization in response to a ramp voltage enables the assessment of the visco-elastic characteristics of animal tissue cells. It reveals the nature of fine liquid crystalline domains of hierarchical structures in cytoplasm and cell membranes with respective threshold voltages that initiate their discrete polarizations. The positive increment of the permittivity spectra in the range of 20 to 106 Hz of intact leaves differs from those exhibiting relaxation behavior, and is shown to be anomalous. Voltages above membrane thresholds on fruit tissue samples cause membrane disruption and this is studied as an electrical breakdown process. The extreme accuracy of utilized methods elucidate otherwise intangible intracellular morphological changes, including cell transformations caused by chemical and thermal treatments. Dielectric methods are shown as the least invasive, compared with traditional biomedical examinations employing mostly histochemical treatments which alter the structure, at least, by artefacts of space charges of the treatment medium 相似文献
