The four major components of the setal exudate of nymphs of the andromeda lace bug,Stephanitis takeyai, were identified. They are 7-hydroxy-3-nonylchromanone1, the novel 3,5-dihydroxy-2-dodecanoylcyclohex-2-en-1-one2,2,6-dihydroxydodecanophenone3, and its 3-hydroxy derivative4. Only three species ofStephanitis commonly occur in the United States; withS. takeyai we have now identified the major compounds secreted by each of these species. The individual species of the genus are chemotaxonomically distinct and are characterized by the oxidation states of the secreted compounds.  相似文献

The hawthorn lace bug,Corythucha cydoniae, and the eggplant lace bug,Gargaphia solani, possess alarm pheromones that are produced in dorsal abdominal glands (DAGs). WhenG. solani nymphs are grasped, they emit secretion from both DAGs; the posterior DAG secretion alone elicits alarm, but the anterior DAG secretion may hasten the response. InC. cydoniae, the response is due to a synergism between the anterior and posterior DAG secretions, and nymphs are apparently unable to voluntarily release their DAG secretions; both DAGs must be ruptured for the pheromone to escape. The alarm pheromones are interspecifically active in patterns matching the intraspecific activities. Compounds identified from tingid DAG secretions that are involved in the alarm messages are: (E)2-hexenal, (E)-4-oxo-2-hexenal, acetaldehyde, geraniol, and linalool. A new natural product of unknown function (designated nerolidol aldehyde) was identified from the anterior DAG secretions of both species.  相似文献

The large coreid bug,Pachylis laticornis (Hemiptera: Coreidae), feeds on several mimosaceous trees in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. In addition to the presumably defensive metathoracic exocrine glands that occur in both sexes of this species, the adult males also possess a ventral abdominal gland, opening midventrally in the 7–8th abdominal intersegmental membrane, that releases volatile compounds. Two esters, (E)-2-hexenyl tiglate and (E)-2-hexenyl (E)-2-hexenoate, account for over 90% of the total volatiles in the ventral abdominal gland secretion of males. (E)-2-Octenyl tiglate and (E)-2-hexenyl benzoate are present at low concentrations, as are at least three other unidentified compounds. The biological role for this fragrant male-specific exudate is unknown.  相似文献

The female-emitted pheromone ofGrapholitha molesta (Busck), the Oriental fruit moth, was collected by holding females in glass flasks during calling. Flask washes were found to contain four pheromone components: (Z)-8-dodecenyl acetate and (E)-8-dodecenyl acetate in a 1007 ratio, and (Z)-8-dodecen-1-ol and dodecanol in a 10020 ratio. The ratio of (Z)-8-acetate to (Z)-8-dodecen-1-ol was approx. 10030. The active component of the sex pheromone ofMatsucoccus josephi is (2E,6E,8E)-5,7-dimethyl-2,6,8-decatrien-4-one; the chemical is also a powerful kairomone of adult males and females of the bugElatophilus hebraicus the principal predator ofM. josephi. The presence of theZ isomer (2E,6Z,8E)-5,7-dimethyl-2,6,8-decatrien-4-one does not interfere with the attractancy of the activeE component forM. josephi males or the bug. Our results show a clear dose-response between trap catch ofM. josephi males andE. hebraicus. Conversely, increasing amounts of theZ isomer in the mixture did not affect the attraction of the scale insect males or the bug. The catch ofM. josephi males did not differ significantly among traps of different color, and was significantly higher with traps attached to the tree trunk than those suspended between trees. Comparison of the catch ofM. josephi among the three forests and between pine species suggests that the level of infestation ofPinus halepepsis andPinus brutia ssp.brutia is similar, despite the fact that the latter pine is resistant to the scale insect. Both sexes ofE. hebraicus were trapped in much lower numbers at the more infested sites. This may be related to interference with the activity ofE. hebraicus due to deterioration and drying of parts of the tree crowns and heavy colonization by generalist predators in injured trees.  相似文献

Defensive secretion produced by adult males and females ofLeptocorisa oratorius, Fabricius (Hemiptera: Coreidae) living on the host plant,Oriza sativa, was analyzed by a combined gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy technique. Both male and female secretions consisted of two major components: (E)-2-octenal andn-octyl acetate, 76% and 16% (w/w), respectively. The remaining 8% were trace compounds, some of which were identified as hexyl acetate, 3-octenal, 1-octanol, and (Z)-3-octenyl acetate. In a survey among 38 coreid defensive secretions, (E)-2-octenal andn-octyl acetate were found to occur rarely in addition to coreid-specific compounds, while their combination as primary constituents was found to be unique. Toxicity and repellency of this secretion were evaluated using two household pests,Anoplolepis longipes andSitotroga cerealella, as test insects, and lethal concentration (LC50) values of 0.24 ppm and 0.14 ppm, respectively, and repellencies of 63% and 58%, respectively, were obtained. Comparing the above values with those of a pentatomid bug,Coridius janus, evaluated under the same conditions, it was apparent that this secretion has potential as a repellent to enemies ofL. oratorius but not as a toxicant to attack them. Bioassay on the alarm activity of this secretion revealed that it elicits alarm responses, alerting and dispersing aggregated male and femaleL. oratorius: this is followed by self-coating activities. In addition, some unique behaviors were also noted among alarmedL. oratorius.  相似文献

The sex pheromone ofCryptophlebia leucotreta females is a mixture of (E)-8- and (Z)-8-dodecenyl acetate (dda). The compounds have been isolated from extracts ofC. leucotreta females and were identified by means of chromatography on a silver-impregnated column, and by combined GC-MS analysis and ozonolysis. Optimal catches of males were obtained with mixtures of (E)-8- and (Z)-8-dda in the range of 7030 to 3070.  相似文献

The ability of (E)- and (Z)-6-nonen-2-one to serve as precursors of the common scolytid pheromonesEndo- andexo-brevicomin was examined in vivo. When mountain pine beetles (MPB),Dendroctonus ponderosae Hopkins, or western balsam bark beetles (WBBB),Dryocoetes confusus Swaine, were exposed to [6,7-D2](E)-6-nonen-2-one, theEndo-brevicomin produced was enriched with two deuterium atoms per molecule (as determined by GC-MS), indicating that (E)-6-nonen-2-one served as a precursor of this pheromone. Similarly, when the beetles were exposed to [4,4-D2](Z)-6-nonen-2-one, theexo-brevicomin produced was enriched with two deuterium atoms per molecule. Evidence in support of biological relevance of the latter observation include: (1) (Z)-6-nonen-2-one was found in the volatiles of male MPBs and WBBBs, indicating that this is a natural metabolite; (2) theexo-brevicomin produced by MPB was shown to be of natural (+) chirality by complexation chromatography; and (3) female WBBBs and MPBs (which are not known to produceexo-brevicomin) produced significantly lessexo-brevicomin when exposed to the precursor than did the males.  相似文献

The relative efficacy of disruptant blends comprised of different combinations of the Oriental fruit moth's pheromone components was determined in field tests. Disruption was evaluated by comparing male moth catch at synthetic and female-baited traps in disruptant and non-treatment areas. Three atmospheric dosages of a 8-dodecenyl acetate (93.5%Z6.5%E) blend, representing two successive 10-fold decreases in concentration (2.5 × 10–2 g/hectare/day to 2.5 × 10–4 g/hectare/day) were tested alone and in combination with an additional percentage of (Z)-8-dodecen-1-ol. Male moth orientation to traps was eliminated in plots exposed to the two highest binary acetate dosages. However, significantly more males were captured in synthetic-baited traps in the lowest acetate-alone treatment, indicating a diminution of disruption efficiency. In contrast, inclusion of (Z)-8-dodecen-1-ol in the disruptant blend effected essentially complete disruption of orientation at all concentrations tested. Mating success ofG. molesta pairs confined in small cages apparently was not affected by the presence of relatively high concentrations of the binary acetate and the acetate-alcohol blends. Pristhesancus plagipennis, a large Australian assassin bug, possesses three pairs of dorsal abdominal glands (DAGs). In the male, the anterior and posterior glands are hypertrophied and secrete an attractant pheromone. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analyses of male DAG extracts and airborne volatiles emitted from calling males showed the pheromone signature to be dominated by a novel component. Subsequent chemical manipulations, GC-MS, and chiral-column analyses established its identity as (Z)-3-hexenyl (R)-2-hydroxy-3-methylbutyrate. Minor components included 3-methylbutanol, 2-phenylethanol, (Z)-3-hexenol, decanal, (E)-2-hexenoic acid, and three minor hexenyl esters. Bioactivity studies using laboratory olfactometers and outdoor flight cages demonstrated attraction by femaleP. plagipennis to calling males, heptane extracts of male posterior DAGs and a synthetic formulation of the (Z)R enantiomer of the major ester, alone or in combination with other components of male anterior and posterior DAGs. Males were also attracted to the major ester. The racemate andS enantiomer of the ester were not attractive. Contamination of the (Z)R enantiomer with 30–60% of theE isomer also made the compound nonattractive. This is the first report of an aggregation pheromone in the Reduviidae. The prospects for pheromonal manipulation ofP. plagipennis populations to enhance the value of this predator in horticultural ecosystems, are discussed.  相似文献

We investigated the exocrine secretions from the five nymphal instars in the southern green stink bug,Nezara viridula, by analyzing separately the contents of the three dorsal abdominal reservoirs. All DAGs 1 produced a mixture of five alkanes with 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16 carbons. No differences were found between DAGs 2 and DAGs 3, for the five instars: the glands of first instars produce the same alkanes as DAGs 1,n-tridecane, traces of (E)-2-decenal, and a specific compound: (E)-4-oxo-2-decenal. In the other instars (second to fifth), (E)-4-oxo-2-decenal is absent from the secretion but another compound is present: (E)-4-oxo-2-hexenal. The kinetics of production of the different compounds were studied, the maximum amounts produced occurring 36 hr after hatching. The biological function of (E)-4-oxo-2-decenal was investigated. Using olfactometry, we showed that this compound acts as an attractant and an arrestant on second instars, at physiological doses. Moreover, this semiochemical was shown to be repellent to the fire-antSolenopsis geminata, a potential predator ofN. viridula and we established the dose-response curve for the repellent activity.  相似文献

Volatiles from lesser grain borers,Rhyzopertha dominica (F.) (Coleoptera: Bostrichidae), were collected on Porapak Q, and those from the male beetles were shown to contain two compounds, that were attractive individually and in combination to both sexes. These compounds were identified as (S)-(+)-1-methylbutyl (E)-2-methyl-2-pentenoate and (S)-(+)-1-methylbutyl (E)-2,4-dimethyl-2-pentenoate by spectrometry and comparison with synthesized compounds. The two compounds have been assigned the trivial names dominicalure 1 and dominicalure 2, respectively. The absolute configuration of the sex pheromone of the Israeli pine bast scale,Matsucoccus josephi, was determined as (2E,5R,6E,8E)-5,7-dimethyl-2,6,8-decatrien-4-one, designated here asR-E with 10% (2E,5S,6E,8E)-5,7-dimethyl-2,6,8-decatrien-4-one, designated asS-E. The chirality of the quantitatively minorZ isomer was (2E,5R,6Z,8E)-5,7-dimethyl-2,6,8-decatrien-4-one (R-Z). Chiral assignments were made by comparative gas chromatographic (GC) analysis of naturalM. josephi pheromone with stereoselectively synthesized stereoisomers on a chiral Cyclodex-B column, which separated the enantiomers with baseline resolution. In gas chromatographic-electroantennographic detection (GC-EAD) analysis of the racemicZ andE isomers, the latter elicited the stronger antennal response by maleM. josephi. In GC-EAD of all four stereoisomers, employing the chiral column,R-E was the most active stereoisomer. In field testsR-E attracted 10 times more males ofM. josephi than didS-E. The racemicE/Z pheromone mixture, containing all four stereoisomers in approximately equal amounts, attracted as many maleM. josephi as did an equivalent amount ofR-E, indicating that the other stereoisomers are not inhibitory. 为寻求高活性的杀螨剂,通过对螺螨酯进行结构改造,合成了新杀螨活性化合物3-(2,4-二氯苯基)-2-氧-1-氧杂螺[4.5]癸-3-烯-4-基-丁基-1-磺酸酯(试验代号:AC-101;暂命名:螺螨丁酯),并开发了24%悬浮剂(SC)和24%可分散油悬浮剂(OD)制剂。室内生物活性测试显示:在1 mg/L质量浓度下,螺螨丁酯对朱砂叶螨螨卵的防效达95%。田间药效试验显示:24%螺螨丁酯SC和OD药后14 d对山楂叶螨的最高防效分别为95.7%和96.2%,药后21 d对山楂叶螨的防效在73.6%以上。螺螨丁酯具有杀螨活性高、速效性好和持效期长的特点,有一定的应用开发价值。  相似文献

The giant springtail,Tetrodontophora bielanensis (Waga), is characterized by integumental openings (pseudocells) from which small droplets of a sticky defensive fluid are secreted after molestation. The secretion originates initially from secretory cells below the pseudocellae; subsequent irritations result in release of hemolymph, which was identified by both chemical and microscopical methods as well as by scanning electron microscopy. Bioassays with topically treated ground beetlesNebria brevicollis showed that the pseudocellular fluid evokes a total disorientation and cleansing behavior of the beetle. The main constituents were identified as the following pyridopyrazines: 2,3-dimethoxpyrido[2,3-b]pyrazine (1), 3-isopropyl-2-methoxypyrido[2,3-b]pyrazine (2), and 2-methoxy-4H-pyrido[2,3-b]pyrazine-3-one (3). These alkaloids are mainly present in the pseudocellar fluids of female and male springtails but are absent in their food or feces. Minor amounts are found in the hemolymph of adults, while larvae contain traces of2 only. All compounds were synthesized and tested for activity. In natural concentrations, the synthetic alkaloids elicited the same effects from the ground beetles as the pseudocellar fluid.  相似文献

Analysis of ovipositor washings of femaleMaliarpha separatella from Sierra Leone by high-resolution gas chromatography (GC) linked to a male electroantennograph (EAG) indicated the presence of three electrophysiologically active compounds. The GC retention times of these compounds were consistent with those of (Z)-9-tetradecen-1-ol, (Z,E)-9,12-tetradecadien-1-ol, and (E,E)-10,12-tetradecadien-1-ol. Analysis by El and CI mass spectrometry of ovipositor washings confirmed these identifications and also indicated the presence of the saturated analog, tetradecan-1-ol. There was no evidence, from these analyses, of the corresponding aldehydes or acetates. The EAG-active compounds were present in the ovipositor washings in a ratio of approximately 23.51, with the major component constituting approximately 0.4 ng per ovipositor. GC-MS analysis of entrained female effluvia confirmed that the EAG-active compounds were released by virgin females. Field testing of the EAG-active compounds indicated that (Z,E)-9,12-tetradecadien-1-ol and (E,E)10,12-tetradecadien-1-ol were attractive to male moths in ratios of between 9:1 and 39:1, while (Z)-9-tetradecen-1-ol was found to reduce trap catch when added to blends of the other two compounds.  相似文献

Volatiles from the eggplant flea beetle, Epitrix fuscula Crotch (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae), feeding on host foliage, were investigated. Six male-specific compounds were detected and were identified through the use of mass spectrometry, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometry, chiral and achiral gas chromatography, high-performance liquid chromatography, electrophysiology (gas chromatography-electroantennography, GC–EAD), and microchemical tests. The two most abundant of the six compounds were (2E,4E,6Z)-2,4,6-nonatrienal (1) and (2E,4E,6E)-2,4,6-nonatrienal (2). The other four compounds, present in minor amounts, were identified as himachalene sesquiterpenes; two of these, 3 and 4, were hydrocarbons and two, 5 and 6, were alcohols. All four sesquiterpenes were previously encountered from male flea beetles of Aphthona spp. and Phyllotreta cruciferae. Synthetic 1 and 2 matched the natural products by GC retention times, mass spectra, and NMR spectra. Sesquiterpenes 36 similarly matched synthetic standards and natural samples from the previously studied species in all ways, including chirality. Both natural and synthetic 1 and 2 gave positive GC–EAD responses, as did sesquiterpenes 3, 5, and 6. Field trials were conducted with a mixture of 1 and 2, and the baited traps were significantly more attractive than control traps to both male and female E. fuscula. The synthetic aggregation pheromone of the large milkweed bug, Oncopeltus fasciatus (Dallas) (Lygaeinae), also attracted males of the plant bug, Phytocoris difficilis Knight (Miridae). Field testing partial blends against the six-component blend comprising the Oncopeltus pheromone showed that cross-attraction of P. difficilis males was due to synergism between (E)-2-octenyl acetate and (E,E)-2,4-hexadienyl acetate. Hexyl acetate was abundant in the metathoracic scent gland (MSG) secretion of P. difficilis males, but because female P. difficilis could not initially be found in the field, further combinatorial tests were guided by prior research on the pheromones of two Phytocoris species in the western United States. The combination of hexyl, (E)-2-hexenyl, and (E)-2-octenyl acetates was as attractive to P. difficilis males as the milkweed bug pheromone, yet no milkweed bugs were drawn to this blend. Gas chromatographic (GC)-electroantennographic detection (EAD) and GC-mass spectrometric (MS) analyses of female P. difficilis MSGs determined that their secretion contained predominantly hexyl, (E)-2-hexenyl, and (E)-2-octenyl acetates (all strongly EAD-active)—the latter two compounds found only in trace amounts from males—plus five minor female-specific compounds, three of which were EAD-active. (E,E)-2,4-Hexadienyl acetate was not detected from P. difficilis females or males. The blend of the three major components, hexyl, (E)-2-hexenyl, and (E)-2-octenyl acetates (2:1.5:1 by volume), was as attractive as the blend of all six EAD-active compounds identified from females, indicating that this ternary blend constitutes the sex pheromone of P. difficilis. Hexyl acetate with (E)-2-octenyl acetate also attracted males of another species, P. breviusculus Reuter, but addition of (E)-2-hexenyl acetate and/or (E,E)-2,4-hexadienyl acetate inhibited attraction of P. breviusculus males. Attraction of P. difficilis males occurred mainly during the first half of scotophase. The possible neurophysiological basis for this asymmetrical cross-attraction is discussed.  相似文献
