This paper deals with the measurement and modelling of axial liquid dispersion in a 4.5 mm internal diameter tube provided with smooth-periodic constrictions (meso-tube) in steady and oscillatory flow conditions. The residence time distribution (RTD) in the meso-tube was monitored for a range of fluid oscillation frequency (f) and amplitude (x0) at laminar flow. The RTD response was modelled with three hydrodynamic models: (i) tanks-in-series, (ii) tanks-in-series with backflow and (iii) plug flow with axial dispersion. The steady flow through the meso-tube at flow rates up to 21.30 ml/min resulted in broad RTDs, mainly due to the parabolic velocity profile. The use of fluid oscillations allowed a fine-control of the axial liquid dispersion in the meso-tube due to generation of secondary flow in the regions between the constrictions. The axial dispersion coefficient D was reduced by up to 13-fold in comparison with the steady flow situation. Values of x0 ≤ 1 mm and f = 10 Hz generally resulted in a maximum reduction in axial dispersion through, therefore maximum improvements in RTD. The tanks-in-series model was generally not capable of predicting RTDs in the meso-tube. The potential of this platform for the continuous, sustainable production of added-value products is herein demonstrated.  相似文献

Liquid phase axial mixing was measured in a 100 mm i.d. bubble column operated in the pressure range of 0.1-0.5 MPa. Water, ethanol and 1-butanol were used as the liquid phase and nitrogen as the gas phase. The temperature and superficial gas velocity were varied in the range of 298-323 K and 0.01-0.21 m/s, respectively. The axial dispersion coefficient increased with an increase in the gas density due to pressure. The temperature had surprisingly a small effect. A CFD model was developed for the prediction of flow pattern in terms of mean velocity and eddy diffusivity profiles. The model was further extended for the prediction of residence time distribution and hence the axial dispersion coefficient (DL). The predictions of axial dispersion coefficient agree favorably with all the experimental data collected in this work as well as published in the literature. The model was extended for different gas-liquid systems. The predicted values of axial dispersion coefficient were found to agree very well with all the experimental data.  相似文献

Axial dispersion coefficients in three-phase fluidized beds have been measured in a 0.152 m-ID x 1.8 m high column by the two points measuring technique with the axially dispersed plug flow model. The effects of liquid velocity (0.05–0.13 m/s), gas velocity (0.02–0.16 m/s) and particle size (3-8 mm) on the axial dispersion coefficient at the different axial positions (0.06–0.46 m) in the bed have been determined. The axial dispersion coefficient increases with increasing gas velocity but it decreases with an increase in particle size and exhibits a maximum value with an increase in the axial position from the distributor. The axial dispersion coefficients in terms of the Peclet number have been correlated in terms of the ratio of fluid velocities, the ratio of the panicle size to column diameter, and the dimensionless axial position in the bed based on the isotropic turbulence theory.  相似文献

The nano-particles mixing behavior in a nano-agglomerate fluidized bed (NAFB) using R972, a kind of nano-SiO2 powder, was investigated by the nano-particle coated phosphors tracer method. The axial and radial solids dispersion coefficients in this system were two orders of magnitude lower than those in fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) catalyst systems. The axial solids dispersion coefficient increased with increasing superficial gas velocities, and ranged between 9.1 × 10− 4 and 2.6 × 10− 3 m2/s. There was a step increase in the axial solids dispersion coefficient between the particulate fluidization regime and bubbling and turbulent fluidization regimes. As the superficial gas velocity increased, the radial solids dispersion coefficient increased gradually, from 1.2 × 10− 4 to 4.5 × 10− 4 m2/s. The much smaller Da and Dr, compared to regular fluidized systems, is mainly due to the reduced density difference between the fluidized particles and fluidizing medium. To validate this, the solids dispersion coefficients in the NABF were compared with literature values for liquid-solid particulate systems in the particulate fluidization regime and FCC systems in the bubbling and turbulent fluidization regimes. The density difference between the fluidized particles and fluidizing medium and kinetic viscosity of the fluidizing medium, and other hydrodynamic factors like the superficial velocity of the fluidizing medium and the average diameters of the fluidized particles, were the key factors in the solids mixing in the fluidized beds. Empirical correlations are given to describe the results.  相似文献

Dispersion coefficient of bubble motion based on velocity distribution theory has been analyzed in up and downward gas-liquid two-phase contactor. The intensity of dispersion of phase depends on motion of the dispersed phase and the characteristics of velocity distribution. In this paper the effects of operating and geometric variables on the dispersion coefficient of bubble motion and the characteristic factor of velocity distribution have been analyzed within the range of column diameter 0.10-2.5 m, superficial liquid velocity, 0.04-0.21 m/s and superficial gas velocity 0.41-3.16 mm/s. From the different developed model of longitudinal dispersion coefficient of liquid, comparison of dispersion coefficient of bubble motion and characteristic feature of velocity distribution in down and upflow two-phase contactor has been reported. Also the functionalities of dispersion coefficient of bubble motion and velocity characteristic factor have been developed with operating variables. The condition for dispersion based on velocity pattern has also been discussed in the present work. The present analysis on the dispersion coefficient of bubble motion and velocity distribution factor associated with the knowledge of the liquid phase dispersion in two-phase contactor can give insight into a further understanding and modeling of multiphase reactor in industrial applications.  相似文献

We investigate experimentally the occurrence of shape oscillations accompanied by path transition of periodically produced air bubbles rising in water. Within the period of bubble formation, the induced velocity is measured to examine bubble-liquid and bubble-bubble interactions. The flow is produced in a small-scale bubble column with square-shaped cross section. A capillary aerator produces bubbles of size 3.4 mm at a frequency of 5 Hz. Measuring techniques employed are high-speed imaging to capture bubble shape oscillations and path geometry, and laser-Doppler anemometry (LDA) to measure the velocity in the liquid near the rising bubbles. The experimentally obtained bubble shape data are expanded in Legendre polynomials. The results show the occurrence of oscillations by the periodicity of the expansion coefficients in space. Significant shape oscillations accompanied by path transition are observed as the second-mode oscillation frequency converges to the frequency of the initial shape oscillations. The mean velocity field in the water obtained by LDA agrees well with potential theory. An analysis of the decay of the induced flow shows that there is no interaction between the flow fields of two succeeding 3.4 mm bubbles in the rectilinear path when the bubble production frequency is lower than 7.4 Hz.  相似文献

This paper presents a numerical study of the effect of oscillation amplitude in oscillatory baffled column (OBC) using computational fluid dynamics. The numerical work was carried out for single phase liquid flow for an unsteady 3-D model using commercial software, Fluent (2006). This work was concentrated on the effect of oscillation amplitude. Three amplitudes of 5, 10 and 15 mm with constant frequency of 1 Hz are applied. Vortex and cycle average velocities at different points are analyzed. The studies show the maximum velocity for 5 mm, 10 mm and 15 mm in an OBC are 0.11 m/s, 0.25 m/s and 0.40 m/s respectively in the first cycle of oscillation. At a constant frequency, greater oscillation amplitude displaces the liquid to a further distance and builds a larger vortex. Vortex length was 1.5 times bigger when oscillation amplitude changes from 5 mm to 10 mm and 2 times when the amplitude is triple from 5 mm. The detailed validation is presented somewhere else; this research is focused on the effect of oscillation.  相似文献

The effects of superficial gas velocity on heat transfer coefficient and its time-averaged radial profiles along the bed height have been investigated in a pilot-plant scale bubble column of 0.44 m diameter using air-water system. Notable differences were observed in heat transfer coefficients along the bed axial locations particularly between the sparger (Z/D = 0.28) and the fully developed flow (Z/D = 4.8) regions. In the fully developed flow region larger heat transfer coefficient values were obtained compared to those in the sparger region. About 14-22% increase in heat transfer coefficients measured in the fully developed flow region has been observed compared to those measured in the distributor region when the superficial gas velocity increases from 0.05 to 0.45 m/s. The heat transfer coefficients in the column center for all the conditions studied are about 9-13% larger than those near the wall region. It has been noted that in the fully developed flow region, the axial variation of the heat transfer coefficients was not significant.  相似文献

Axial and radial profiles of gas and solids holdups have been studied in agas-liquid-solid circulating fluidized bed at 140mm i.d..Experimental results indicate that the axialand radial profiles of gas and solids holdups are more uniform than those in a conventionalfluidized bed.Axial and radial liquid dispersion coefficients in the gas-liquid-solid circulating fluidizedbed are investigated for the first time.It is found that axial and radial liquid dispersioncoefficients increases with increaes in gas velocity and solids holdup. The liquid velocity has littleinfluence on the axial liquid dispersion coefficient, but would adversely affect the redial liquiddispersion coefficient. It can be concluded that the gas-liquid-solid circulating fluidized bed hasadvantages such as better interphase contact and lower liquid dispersion along the axial directionover the expanded bed.  相似文献

Gas mixing behavior was investigated in a residence time distribution experiment in a bubbling fluidized bed of 0.07 m ID and 0.80 m high. Linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) particles having a mean diameter of 772 Μm and a particle size range of 200-1,500 Μm were employed as the bed material. The stimulus-response technique with CO2 as a tracer gas was performed for the RTD study. The effects of gas velocity, aspect ratio (H0/D) and scale-up on the axial gas dispersion were determined from the unsteady-state dispersion model, and the residence time distributions of gas in the fluidized bed were compared with the ideal reactors. It was found that axial dispersion depends on the gas velocity and aspect ratio of the bed. The dimensionless dispersion coefficient was correlated with Reynolds number and aspect ratio.  相似文献

An axial dispersion of gas in a circulating fluidized bed was investigated in a fluidized bed of 4.0 cm I.D. and 279 cm in height. The axial dispersion coefficient of gas was determined by the stimulus-response method of trace gas of CO2. The employed particles were 0.069 mm and 0.147 mm silica-sand. The results showed that axial dispersion coefficients were increased with gas velocity and solid circulation rates as well as suspension density. The experimentally determined axial dispersion coefficients in this study were in the range of 1.0-3.5 m2/s.  相似文献

Gas-solid fluidized bed separation expands the choices of highly efficient dry coal beneficiation methods. The hydrodynamics of 0.3-0.15 mm large Geldart B magnetite powder were studied using a combination of experimental and numerical methods to optimize the design of the solid medium used in the fluidized bed. The results show that the Syamlal-O'Brien drag model is suitable for simulating the bed and it is verified that simulated and experimental results are consistent with each other. If the static bed height is no more than 300 mm then the bed height has minimal effect on the fluidization characteristics. As the superficial gas velocity increases the bed activity is improved. However, at the same time the uniformity and stability of the bed drop. Therefore, the gas velocity should be adjusted to no more than 2.0Umf. The density of the Geldart B bed is uniform and stable, which indicates a relatively high fluidization quality. Furthermore, compounded medium solids consisting of < 0.3 mm magnetite powder with a 0.3-0.15 mm particle content of 65.25% and < 1 mm fine coal were used in a pilot gas-solid fluidized bed of 5-10 ton/h capacity. The pilot bed was used to separate 50-6 mm coal. This test resulted in the coal ash content being reduced from 23.74% to 11.79% with a probable error, E, of 0.07 g/cm3 and a recovery efficiency of 98.26%. This indicates that the bed has good separating performance. Nevertheless, to increase the applicability of the separating bed a further study emphasizing a decrease in the lower size limit of the magnetite powder should be performed.  相似文献

Single particle settling velocities through water fluidized beds of mono-sized glass spheres (dp = 0.645, 1.20, 1.94, 2.98 and 5 mm in diameter) were studied experimentally using a column, 40 mm in diameter. The settling spherical particles (Dp = 10 and 19.5 mm) had different densities (1237 to 8320 kg/m3), while the settling particles (Dp = 5 and 2.98 mm) were glass spheres. The pseudo-fluid model, which considers a liquid fluidized bed as a homogenous pseudo-fluid, predicts single particle settling velocities quite well if the ratio Dp/dp is larger than about 10. With decreasing ratio Dp/dp, the overall friction between the settling particle and the fluidized media increases. A method for predicting single particle settling velocities through a liquid fluidized bed is proposed and discussed. Following the approach of Van der Wielen et al. [L.A.M. Van der Wielen, M.H.H Van Dam, K.C.A.M. Van Luyben, On the relative motion of a particle in a swarm of different particles, Chem. Eng. Sci. 51 (2006) 995-1008], the overall friction is decomposed into a particle-fluid and a particle-particle component. The effective buoyancy force is calculated using the transition function proposed by Ruzicka [M.C. Ruzicka, On buoyancy in dispersion, Chem. Eng. Sci. 61 (2006) 2437-2446]. A simple model for predicting the collision force is proposed, as well as a correlation for the collision coefficient. The mean absolute deviation between the experimental and calculated slip velocities was 5.08%.  相似文献

A laboratory‐scale packed column was positioned on a six degree of freedom swell simulation hexapod to emulate the hydrodynamics of packed bed scrubbers/reactors onboard offshore floating systems. The bed was instrumented with wire mesh capacitance sensors to measure liquid saturation and velocity fields, flow regime transition, liquid maldistribution, and tracer radial and axial dispersion patterns while robot was subject to sinusoidal translation (sway, heave) and rotation (roll, roll + pitch, yaw) motions at different frequencies. Three metrics were defined to analyze the deviations induced by the various column motions, namely, coefficient of variation and degree of uniformity for liquid saturation fluctuating fields, and effective Péclet number. Nontilting oscillations led to frequency‐independent maldistribution while tilting motions induced swirl/zigzag secondary circulation and prompted nonuniform maldistribution oscillations that deteriorated with decreasing frequencies. Regardless of excited degree of freedom, a qualitative loss of plug‐flow character was observed compared with static vertical beds which worsened as frequencies decreased. © 2015 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 61: 2354–2367, 2015  相似文献

Gas phase axial dispersion characteristics were determined in a molten salt oxidation reactor (air-molten sodium carbonate salt two phase system). The effects of the gas velocity (0.05–0.22 m/s) and molten salt bed temperature (870–970 °C) on the gas phase axial dispersion coefficient were studied. The amount of axial gas-phase dispersion was experimentally evaluated by means of residence time distribution (RTD) experiments using an inert gas tracer (CO). The experimentally determined RTD curves were interpreted by using the axial dispersions model, which proved to be a suitable means of describing the axial mixing in the gas phase. The results indicated that the axial dispersion coefficients exhibited an asymptotic value with increasing gas velocity due to the plug-flow like behavior in the higher gas velocity. Temperature had positive effects on the gas phase dispersion. The effect of the temperature on the dispersion intensity was interpreted in terms of the liquid circulation velocity using the drift-flux model.  相似文献

Despite the hydrodynamics of trickle beds experiencing high pressures has become largely documented in the recent literature, trickle bed hydrodynamic behavior at elevated temperatures, on the contrary, largely remains terra incognita. This study's aim was to demonstrate experimentally the temperature shift of trickle-to-pulse flow regime transition, pulse velocity, two-phase pressure drop, liquid holdup and liquid axial dispersion coefficient. These parameters were determined for Newtonian (air-water) and non-Newtonian (air-0.25% Carboxymethylcellulose (CMC)) liquids, and the various experimental results were compared to available literature models and correlations for confrontation and recommendations. The trickle-to-pulse flow transition boundary shifted towards higher gas and liquid superficial velocities with increasingly temperatures, aligning with the findings on pressure effects which likewise were confirmed to broaden the trickle flow domain. The Larachi-Charpentier-Favier diagram [Larachi et al., 1993, The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering 71, 319-321] provided good predictions of the transition locus at elevated temperature for Newtonian liquids. Conversely, everything else being kept identical, increasingly temperatures occasioned a decrease in both two-phase pressure drop and liquid holdup; whereas pulse velocity was observed to increase with temperature. The Iliuta and Larachi slit model for non-Newtonian fluids [Iliuta and Larachi, 2002, Chemical Engineering Science 46, 1233-1246] predicted with very good accuracy both the pressure drops and the liquid holdups regardless of pressure and temperature without requiring any adjustable parameter. The Burghardt et al. [2004, Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Research 43, 4511-4521] pulse velocity correlation can be recommended for preliminary engineering calculations of pulse velocity at elevated temperature, pressure, Newtonian and non-Newtonian liquids. The liquid axial dispersion coefficient (Dax) extracted from the axial dispersion RTD model revealed that temperatures did not affect in a substantial manner this parameter. Both Newtonian and power-law non-Newtonian fluids behaved qualitatively similarly regarding the effect of temperature.  相似文献

An experimental study on the gas dispersion behaviour of a cocurrent downflow gas-solids suspension in a 140 mm i.d. circulating fluidised bed (CDCFB) using the steady-state tracer method is presented. The influence of gas velocity, solids circulating rate and particle density on radial gas dispersion has been examined. Gas dispersion can well be described by an eddy diffusion mechanism and a proposed two dimensional dispersed plug-flow model can fit the experimental data very well. Correlations of the radial diffusion coefficient were obtained. It is found that the axial diffusion coefficient obtained in the CDCFB is much lower than that in conventional circulating fluidised beds.  相似文献
