Comment policy.

Commentary on articles published in the journal makes a scientific contribution when it (a) brings to light critical controversies, (b) identifies important misconceptions or errors of inference, and/or (c) clarifies the implications of findings. Decisions about whether to publish occasional commentaries in the Journal of Applied Psychology have been guided more by tradition than by an explicit editorial policy. With the encouragement of the APA Publications and Communications Board, I have formulated a comment policy for the journal. Editorial statement of the American Psychologist: II.

Editing a journal that combines professional, scientific, and public policy interests is a strange business, indeed. Although this January 1987 issue of the American Psychologist (AP) begins the second year of my editorship, it is the first issue that actually reflects my editorial input and that of my associate editors. This state of affairs results from both the usual 9- to 10-month publication lag and the normal transition process between two editorial terms. It seems worthwhile to use my "first" issue as an opportunity to comment on the editorial direction of the journal, about the editorial process itself (and some changes we have made in it), and about some specific modifications in format that you will see in coming issues. Editorial policies of the American Psychologist.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the American Psychologist (AP). Since the publication of its first issue in January 1946, AP has served as the flagship journal for the American Psychological Association (APA) and has played an important and unique role for the field of psychology. Because of the quality of the articles published in AP, the journal has evolved into one of the most influential and widely cited publications in psychology. The purpose of this editorial is to outline a revised set of policies for the journal that builds on and expands those developed by previous editors (see, e.g., Fowler, 1993; Goodstein, 1987; Kiesler, 1976; Pallack, 1981). Before outlining these policies, I would like to explore the relative status and influence of AP within the universe of psychological and social science journals. When a new editorial team takes over responsibility for the important task of overseeing the production of a journal, it is critical, for both readers and those interested in publishing their scholarly work in the journal, that they clearly present their vision for the direction of the journal. Such a statement provides an opportunity for the editors to illustrate their plans for interpreting the journal's mandate in a manner that ensures continuity with previous volumes of the journal while also emphasizing areas of the mandate that may not have received the attention they deserve. This editorial is designed with these purposes in mind. In the following paragraphs, we will provide information on the structure and scope of the journal for the next four years, as well as practical information on how authors should interpret the mandate of the journal and submit their work to the journal. Editorial policy of the Consulting Psychology Journal: Practice and Research.

This issue marks the beginning of my editorship of Consulting Psychology Journal: Practice and Research. Each incoming editor of a journal puts a new stamp on it, emphasizing continuity in some areas and undertaking new directions in others. In this statement of editorial policy for my tenure as the journal's editor I identify planned changes and new directions for the journal as well as editorial policies. I base these approaches both on my sense of the journal's needs and on issues I consider important for advancing the intellectual vitality of the field of consulting psychology. About Psychological Trauma: Theory, Research, Practice, and Policy.

Associate editors Christine Courtois, Kathleen Kendall-Tackett, and I are honored to have had the opportunity to have overseen this, the inaugural issue of Psychological Trauma: Theory, Research, Practice, and Policy (PT:TRPP), the official journal the APA Division of Psychological Trauma (56). Many of our colleagues have expressed their enthusiasm for the promise the journal holds to become an influential force in the field of trauma psychology. It is our intention to maximize this potential by employing it to facilitate several objectives. These objectives are discussed in this editorial.
