With increasing demands for high strength materials for numerous applications, designers have found it necessary to develop new techniques to enhance the life of gears made of even low strength materials. Addendum correction, processing techniques and surface treatments are some of the techniques used for the above purpose. One of the faster and most economical of the above methods is gear shaving. Sufficient data on the performance characteristics of shaved gears are not available. The present paper highlights the performance characteristics of shaved gears, so far unpublished, from tests conducted on Forschungsstelle für Zahnräder und Getriebe apparatus. Scanning electron micrographs indicate that the pitting of shaved gears is occurring around oxides and other inclusions and is accompanied by delamination.Spectral analysis of the gear flanks shows that, apart from pitting, the entire wear profile follows the fatigue process. 相似文献

Common definition and calculating expressions of end-surface contact ratio for all type of gears are put forward, and with calculation expressions for involute gears, micro-segments profile gears, and sine-curved profile gears being discussed. The end-surface contact ratio of gears is defined as the ratio of the action angle (the rotation angle of gear from gear-in to gear-out for one pair of teeth) to the rotation angle per pitch (or central angle per tooth). According to the theory of gearing, equation of the meshing line can be deduced from the tooth profiles of basic rack. Having obtained the equation of the meshing line, and being given the addendum outline of the gears, the contact ratio can be calculated with the calculation expressions. For the involute gears, this definition has same effect as the well-known definition: ratio of the contact line to the base pitch. An experimental study to evaluate the power dissipation of gears was performed.Three low-loss gear models were manufactured using standard 20° pressure angle tools. Austempered ductile iron (ADI) and 20MnCr5 carburized steel gears were tested in an FZG gear test machine using mineral, ester and polyalphaolephine (PAO)-based oils.The results compare power dissipation, the influence of different tooth flank geometries, materials and lubricants.This work concludes that conventional power-transmission gears can be replaced by these improved and more efficient low-loss models, which can be produced using common tools and that steel gears can be successfully replaced by austempered ductile iron gears. 相似文献
