Over the past few decades there have been considerable efforts to use adsorption (solid/vapor) for cooling and heat pump applications, but intensified efforts were initiated only since the imposition of international restrictions on the production and utilization of CFCs and HCFCs. In this paper, a dual-mode silica gel–water adsorption chiller design is outlined along with the performance evaluation of the innovative chiller. This adsorption chiller utilizes effectively low-temperature solar or waste heat sources of temperature between 40 and 95 °C. Two operation modes are possible for the advanced chiller. The first operation mode will be to work as a highly efficient conventional chiller where the driving source temperature is between 60 and 95 °C. The second operation mode will be to work as an advanced three-stage adsorption chiller where the available driving source temperature is very low (between 40 and 60 °C). With this very low driving source temperature in combination with a coolant at 30 °C, no other cycle except an advanced adsorption cycle with staged regeneration will be operational. The drawback of this operational mode is its poor efficiency in terms of cooling capacity and COP. Simulation results show that the optimum COP values are obtained at driving source temperatures between 50 and 55 °C in three-stage mode, and between 80 and 85 °C in single-stage, multi-bed mode.  相似文献

A vapor compression cycle with a solution circuit and desorber/absorber heat exchange (DAHX) has been investigated experimentally using the ammonia/water mixture. A breadboard heat pump was designed and built to measure the cycle performance. COPs in the range of 1.2–1.8 were obtained experimentally for a temperature lift between 60 and 80°C. The cooling capacities were between 7 and 12 kW, which increased with an increase of the ammonia concentration. The pressure ratios encountered were in the range of 2–6. A COP of 1.44 at the temperature lift of 79°C was recorded with a cooling capacity at 10.25 kW. The experimental results are compared to that of the single-stage and two-stage cycle. The two-stage system had the highest temperature lift (110–120°C) and the lowest COP (0.69–1.04). The single-stage system has the highest COP (2.2–3.5) but the lowest temperature lift (40°C). Also, a solution bypass between the Absorber I outlet and Desorber II inlet was proposed to improve the cycle performance. The experimental results showed that the COP varied in the range of 1–2%, while the temperature lift increased by the range between 0 and 6°C. In addition, the analysis of the test result uncertainties was made.  相似文献

Performance analysis of advanced hybrid GAX cycles: HGAX   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
The objectives of this paper are to develop advanced hybrid GAX cycles (HGAX) using NH3–H2O by combining absorption and vapor compression cycles, and to perform parametric analysis of system pressures and component sizes for performance enhancement. Four different HGAX cycles are developed—Type A (Performance improvement), Type B (Low temperature applications) Type C (Reduction of desorption temperature) and Type D (Hot water temperature applications). A compressor is placed between the evaporator and the absorber in Type A and Type B, and placed between the desorber and the condenser in Type C and Type D. It is found that the COP can be improved by 24% compared with the standard GAX cycle (in Type A) and the evaporation temperature of as low as −80 °C can be obtained from the HGAX cycle (Type B). In Type C, the maximum desorption temperature can be reduced down to 164 °C. Therefore, the corrosion problem, which becomes severe at higher temperature 200 °C, can be completely removed. The maximum desorption temperature for the standard GAX cycle ranges 190–200 °C. In Type D, the hot water temperature of as high as 106 °C could be obtained. Therefore, Type D can be applied for space heating and panel or floor heating applications.  相似文献

A theoretical study of a novel regenerative ejector refrigeration cycle   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
There has been a demand for developments of the ejector refrigeration systems using low grade thermal energy, such as solar energy and waste heat. In this paper, a novel regenerative ejector refrigeration cycle was described, which uses an auxiliary jet pump and a conventional regenerator to enhance the performance of the novel cycle. The theoretical analysis on the performance characteristics was carried out for the novel cycle with the refrigerant R141b. Compared with the conventional cycle, the simulation results show that the coefficient of performance (COP) of the novel cycle increases, respectively, by from 9.3 to 12.1% when generating temperature is in a range of 80–160 °C, the condensing temperature is in a range of 35–45 °C and the evaporating temperature is fixed at 10 °C. Especially due to the enhanced regeneration with increasing the pump outlet pressure, the improvement of COP of the novel cycle is approached to 17.8% compared with that in the conventional cycle under the operating condition that generating temperature is 100 °C, condensing temperature is 40 °C and evaporating temperature is 10 °C. Therefore, the characteristics of the novel cycle performance show its promise in using low grade thermal energy for the ejector refrigeration system.  相似文献

This study deals with staged absorption and desorption cooling systems which increase the performance of absorption cycles that are driven by only low-grade energy, particularly when the working fluids are NH3---H20. Instead of working with only one absorber, these systems use a cascade of absorbers composed by one operating at the evaporator pressure, followed by a series of absorbers operating at staged pressures Pj, between Pev and Pc In the same way, a cascade of generators is used for desorption. For the same operating parameters for other equipment and the same COP, the systems that we propose permit the generators to run at temperatures below those of all other systems offered up to now and using the same working fluids. When Tev = −10°C, Ta = Tc = 30°C, the temperature of the generators can be as low as 65°C while the COP of the system is 0.258 and the COPex 0.317. By increasing the temperature of generators to 85°C while maintaining the other parameters at the same values, COP becomes 0.374 and the COP,, 0.336. These results improve the performance of absorption systems using only low-grade energy (T < 100°C). Particularly, they are better than the performance of two-stage absorption systems which consist of two single-stage absorption cycles coupled with each other through the evaporator of the first cycle and the absorber of the second cycle. With the same operating parameters indicated above for our system at the evaporator, the condenser, and the absorber, these coupled cycles need temperatures at generators of 80 and 100°C, whereas they give a COP of only 0.270  相似文献

The objective of this study is to propose and evaluate advanced absorption cycles for the coefficient of performance (COP) improvement and temperature lift enhancement applications. The characteristics of each cycle are assessed from the viewpoints of the ideal cycle COP and its applications. The advanced cycles for the COP improvement are categorized according to their heat recovery method: condensation heat recovery, absorption heat recovery, and condensation/absorption heat recovery. In H2O–LiBr systems, the number of effects and the number of stages can be improved by adding a third or a fourth component to the solution pairs. The performance of NH3–H2O systems can be improved by internal heat recovery due to their thermal characteristics such as temperature gliding. NH3–H2O cycles can be combined with adsorption cycles and power generation cycles for waste heat utilization, performance improvement, panel heating and low temperature applications. The H2O–LiBr cycle is better from the high COP viewpoints for the evaporation temperature over 0°C while the NH3–H2O cycle is better from the viewpoint of low temperature applications. This study suggests that the cycle performance would be significantly improved by combining the advanced H2O–LiBr and NH3–H2O cycles.  相似文献

A prototype transcritical CO2 heat pump was constructed for heating water to temperatures greater than 65°C while providing refrigeration at less than 2°C. The heating capacity was 115 kW at an evaporation temperature of +0.3°C and a hot water temperature of 77.5°C, with a heating coefficient of performance (COP) of 3.4. Performance data is presented for each of the compressor, the gas cooler, and the recuperator as well as for the overall heat pump system. Equipment performance data was incorporated into a computer model to enable parametric investigations of heat pump performance. Model predictions showed that the hot water temperature could be increased from 65 to 120°C with a relatively small reduction in heating capacity and heating COP of 33 and 21%, respectively. Model predictions also highlight the potential for significant capacity improvements by eliminating the recuperator in favour of a larger gas cooler.  相似文献

Refrigerant vapor-injection technique has been well justified to improve the performance of systems in refrigeration applications. However, it has not received much attention for air conditioning applications, particularly for air conditioning in hot climates and for heat pumping in cold climates. In this study, the performance of an 11 kW R410A heat pump system with a two-stage vapor-injected scroll compressor was experimentally investigated. The vapor-injected scroll compressor was tested with the cycle options of both flash tank and internal heat exchanger configurations. A cooling capacity gain of around 14% with 4% COP improvement at the ambient temperature of 46.1 °C and about 30% heating capacity improvement with 20% COP gain at the ambient temperature of −17.8 °C were found for the vapor-injected R410A heat pump system as compared to the conventional system which has the same compressor displacement volume.  相似文献

This paper presented a novel autocascade refrigeration cycle (NARC) with an ejector. In the NARC, the ejector is used to recover some available work to increase the compressor suction pressure. The NARC enables the compressor to operate at lower pressure ratio, which in turn improves the cycle performance. Theoretical computation model based on the constant pressure-mixing model for the ejector is used to perform a thermodynamic cycle analysis for the NARC with the refrigerant mixture of R23/R134a. The effects of some main parameters on cycle performance were investigated. The results show the NARC has an outstanding merit in decreasing the pressure ratio of compressor as well as increasing the COP. For NARC operated at the condenser outlet temperature of 40 °C, the evaporator inlet temperature of −40.3 °C, and the mass fraction of R23 is 0.15, the pressure ratio of the ejector reaches to 1.35, the pressure ratio of compressor is reduced by 25.8% and the COP is improved by 19.1% over the conventional autocascade refrigeration cycle.  相似文献

A combined-cycle refrigeration system (CCRS) that comprises a conventional refrigeration and air-conditioning system using mechanical compressor (RAC/MC) and an ejector-cooling cycle (EJC) is proposed and studied. The EJC is driven by the waste heat from the RAC/MC and acts as the bottom cycle of the RAC/MC. A system analysis shows that the COP of a CCRS is significantly higher than a single-stage refrigeration system. Improvement in COP can be as high as 18.4% for evaporating temperature of the RAC/MC Te at −5°C. A prototype of the CCRS was built and tested in the present study. Experimental results show that at Te=−4.5°C, COP is improved by 14% for a CCRS. For Te at 5°C, COP can be improved by 24% for a CCRS with higher condensing temperature of the RAC/MC. The present study shows that the CCRS using the ejector-cooling cycle as the bottom cycle of the RAC/MC is viable. Further improvement in COP is possible since the prototype is not designed and operated at an optimal condition.  相似文献

A single-stage vapour absorption refrigeration system (VARS) is tested with monochlorodifluoromethane (HCF22) as refrigerant and different absorbents: dimethylether of tetraethylene glycol (DMETEG) and dimethyl acetamide (DMA). The influence of generator temperatures in the range 75–95°C, which represents low-grade heat sources, is studied. Cooling water temperatures were varied between 20 and 30°C. Two cases of cooling water flow paths are considered, i.e. water entering either absorber or condenser, which are connected in series. For HCFC22-DMETEG, COP values in the range 0.2–0.36 and evaporator temperatures between 0 and 10°C are obtained. For HCF22-DMA, COP values in the range 0.3–0.45 and evaporator temperatures between −10 and 10°C are obtained. It is observed that HCFC22-DMETEG can work at lower heat source temperatures than HCFC22-DMA. However, at the same operating conditions HCFC22-DMA is better from the viewpoints of circulation ratio and COP. Experiments also show that at low heat source temperature, cooling water temperature has strong influence on circulation ratio but does not affect COP significantly. Preferably, cooling water should first flow through the condenser and then through the absorber in order to achieve improved overall performance.  相似文献

This paper evaluates performance merits of CO2 and R134a automotive air conditioning systems using semi-theoretical cycle models. The R134a system had a current-production configuration, which consisted of a compressor, condenser, expansion device, and evaporator. The CO2 system was additionally equipped with a liquid-line/suction-line heat exchanger. Using these two systems, an effort was made to derive an equitable comparison of performance; the components in both systems were equivalent and differences in thermodynamic and transport properties were accounted for in the simulations. The analysis showed R134a having a better COP than CO2 with the COP disparity being dependent on compressor speed (system capacity) and ambient temperature. For a compressor speed of 1000 RPM, the COP of CO2 was lower by 21% at 32.2°C and by 34% at 48.9°C. At higher speeds and ambient temperatures, the COP disparity was even greater. The entropy generation calculations indicated that the large entropy generation in the gas cooler was the primary cause for the lower performance of CO2.  相似文献

The performance of a solid sorption icemaker is investigated. CaCl2/activated carbon was used as compound adsorbent and ammonia was employed as adsorbate. The influence of operating conditions (cooling water temperature, mass recovery and heat pipe heat recovery, etc.) on the mass of ice, SCP (specific cooling power) and COP (coefficient of performance) was experimentally assessed. At the desorption temperature of 126 °C, cooling water temperature of 22 °C, ice produced temperature of −7.5 °C, 40 s of mass recovery and 2 min of heat pipe heat recovery, the mass of ice, SCP and COP values are 17.6 kg/h, 369.1 W/kg and 0.2, respectively.  相似文献

Energy and exergy models for ideal adsorption cycles with isothermal beds and no mass recovery are developed to predict the limits to COP enhancement using thermal regeneration. The models are applied to compare the performance of zeolite–water and silica gel–water adsorbent–refrigerant pairs over a range of maximum bed temperatures. The thermodynamic consistencies of several alternate adsorption property assumptions are quantified. Differences in adsorption characteristics between zeolite–water and silica gel–water result in a significantly larger potential to enhance COP by implementing thermal regeneration for zeolite–water. Based on COP, the zeolite–water pair is preferred when both thermal regeneration and a high temperature thermal energy source (>150 °C) are used, while the silica gel–water pair is preferred when thermal regeneration is not used and/or a low temperature thermal energy source (<100 °C) is used.  相似文献

This article experimentally investigates the thermal performance of a thermal battery used in the ice storage air-conditioning system as a subcooler. The thermal battery utilizes the superior heat transfer characteristics of two-phase closed thermosyphon and eliminates the drawbacks found in convectional energy storage systems. Experimental investigations are first conducted to study the thermal behavior of thermal battery under different charge temperatures (−5 °C to −9 °C) in which water is used as the energy storage material. This study also examines the thermal performance of the subcooled ice storage air conditioner under different cooling loads. Experimental data of temperature variation of water, ice fraction, refrigerant mass flow rate and coefficient of performance (COP) are obtained. The results show that supercooling phenomenon appears in the water and it can be ended when the charge temperature is lower than −6 °C. The system gives 28% more cooling capacity and 8% higher COP by the contribution of the thermal battery used as a subcooler.  相似文献

The convective thermal wave is part of a patented cycle which uses heat transfer intensification to achieve both high efficiency and small size from a solid adsorption cycle. Such cycles normally suffer from low power density because of poor heat transfer through the adsorbent bed. Rather than attempting to heat the bed directly, it is possible to heat the refrigerant gas outside the bed and to circulate it through the bed in order to heat the sorbent. The high surface area of the grains leads to very effective heat transfer with only low levels of parasitic power needed for pumping. The new cycle presented here also utilises a packed bed of inert material to store heat between the adsorption and desorption phases of the cycle. The high degree of regeneration possible leads to good coefficients of performance (COPs). Thermodynamic modelling, based on measured heat transfer data, predicts a COP (for a specific carbon) of 0.90 when evaporating at 5°C and condensing at 40°C, with a generating temperature of 200°C and a modest system regenerator effectiveness of 0.8. Further improvement is possible. Experimental heat transfer measurements and cycle simulations are presented which show the potential of the concept to provide the basis of a gas-fired air conditioner in the range 10–100 kW cooling. A research project to build a 10-kW water chiller is underway. The laboratory system, which should be operational by June 1997, is described.  相似文献

The prototype of a novel silica gel–water adsorption chiller is built and its performance is tested in detail. The experimental results show that the refrigerating capacity (RC) and COP of the chiller are 7.15 and 0.38 kW, respectively, when the hot water temperature is 84.8 °C, the cooling water temperature is 30.6 °C, and the chilled water outlet temperature is 11.7 °C. The RC will reach 6 kW under the condition of 65 °C hot water temperature, 30.5 °C cooling water temperature and 17.6 °C chilled water temperature. The results confirm that this kind of adsorption chiller is an effective refrigerating machine though its performance is not as fine as the prediction results. Also it is well effectively driven by a low-grade heat source. Therefore, its applications to the low-grade heat source are much attractive.  相似文献

Thermal heat driven adsorption systems have been gained considerable attention on the recent energy utilization trend. However, the drawbacks of these adsorption systems are their poor performance. It is urgently necessary to improve the system performance of the adsorption cycles. There are two major ways for the system performance improvement. One is to develop new adsorbent material well suited to low temperature heat regeneration. The other is to enhance heat and mass transfer in the adsorber/desorber heat exchanger. The objective of the paper is to investigate the system performance of an adsorption cycle. The cycle utilizes activated carbon fiber (ACF)/methanol as adsorbent/refrigerant pair. In this paper, specific cooling effect SCE and COP of the system are numerically evaluated from the adsorption equilibrium theory with different hot, cooling and chilled fluid inlet temperatures. It is confirmed that the influences of hot, cooling and chilled fluid inlet temperatures on the system performance are qualitatively similar to those of silica gel/water pair. Even though, the driving temperature levels of ACF/methanol and silica gel/water are different. There is an optimum condition for COP to reach at maximum for ACF/methanol pair. Particularly, the ACF/methanol system shows better performance with lower chilled fluid inlet temperature between −20 and 20 °C.  相似文献

A thermodynamic cycle model is used to select an optimum adsorbent-refrigerant pair in respect of a chosen figure of merit that could be the cooling production (MJ m−3), the heating production (MJ m−3) or the coefficient of performance (COP). This model is based mainly on the adsorption equilibrium equations of the adsorbent–refrigerant pair and heat flows. The simulation results of 26 various activated carbon–ammonia pairs for three cycles (single bed, two-bed and infinite number of beds) are presented at typical conditions for ice making, air conditioning and heat pumping applications. The driving temperature varies from 80 °C to 200 °C. The carbon absorbents investigated are mainly coconut shell and coal based types in multiple forms: monolithic, granular, compacted granular, fibre, compacted fibre, cloth, compacted cloth and powder. Considering a two-bed cycle, the best thermal performances based on power density are obtained with the monolithic carbon KOH-AC, with a driving temperature of 100 °C; the cooling production is about 66 MJ m−3 (COP = 0.45) and 151 MJ m−3 (COP = 0.61) for ice making and air conditioning respectively; the heating production is about 236 MJ m−3 (COP = 1.50).  相似文献

This study deals with cooling systems driven with low grade heat energy delivered by heat sources whose temperature do not exceed 100°C. Since we cannot neglect the irreversibilities associated to heat depreciation, we consider an approach temperature of 10°C for all the heat exchangers. So the temperature of the generators is <90°C to fulfill the approach conditions. For a heat sink temperature of 30°C and an evaporating temperature of −10°C, only two kinds of cycles are concerned: the cycles with staged absorption and desorption (CADE) and the cascade systems (CCAR) in which a series of two cycles is used, the evaporator of the former cooling the absorber of the later. The cycles with staged absorption and desorption are described. They permit a decrease of generators' temperature down to a level no system among those previously offered can run.To point out the importance of the CADE, we compare them to cascade systems. This comparative study shows that the CADE yields better performances. The gap of performance between the two systems increases with the decrease of the heat sink temperature and it is maximal for lower temperature at generators. The comparative study uses five criteria: the coefficient of performance, Σwp/Qev, Qt/Qev, Qref/Qev and the operating area in a (Tfr, Tg) plane. LiNO3/NH3 and H2O/NH3 are used as working fluids of the CADE while LiBr/H2O + LiNO3/NH3 and LiBr/H2O + H2O/NH3 are used for the CCAR.The CADE are very suitable for the use of low grade heat energy (70°C Tsc 100°C) in refrigeration (Tev −10°C) with sink temperature as high as 30°C and a realistic approach of 10°C for all the heat exchangers.  相似文献
