In this paper, the thermal energy storage system of Badaling 1 MW solar power tower plant is modelled from mathematical models for whole of the working conditions using the modular modelling method. This model can accurately simulate the recharge and discharge processes of thermal energy storage system. The dynamic and static characteristics of the thermal energy storage system are analyzed based on the model response curves of the system state parameters that are obtained from different steam flow disturbances. Conclusions of this paper are good references for the design, operating, and control strategy of solar thermal power plant.  相似文献

A simulation was performed, which concerned the feasibility of seasonal underground thermal energy storage (UTES) in Tianjin, China. The investigated system consisted of 8 boreholes. In summer, residual solar thermal energy was emitted into the soil surrounding the borehole heat exchangers through which the stored energy was extracted in winter with a ground coupled heat pump (GCHP) to provide a proper heating temperature. A simulation study was performed to study the influence of system operation modes on thermal recovery based on the experimental data of a GCHP system, local meteorological conditions and soil properties in Tianjin. The results indicate a thermal recovery ratio of less than 67% and different temperature distributions under three modes. Finally, an operation mode was suggested based on both lower loss and better thermal recovery in the UTES. __________ Translated from Journal of North China Electric Power University, 2007, 34(2): 74–77 [译自: 华北电力大学学报]  相似文献

A system is being designed, using solar energy in combination with Aquifer Thermal Energy Storage (ATES), that will conserve a major part of the oil and electricity used for heating or cooling the Cukurova University, Balcali Hospital in Adana, Turkey. The general objective of the system is to provide heating and cooling to the hospital by storing solar heat underground in summer and cold in winter. As the main source of cold energy, ventilation air at the hospital and surface water from the nearby Seyhan Lake will be used.  相似文献

In the current study, a solar tower–based energy system integrated with a thermal energy storage option is offered to supply both the electricity and freshwater through distillation and reverse osmosis technologies. A high‐temperature thermal energy storage subsystem using molten salt is considered for the effective and efficient operation of the integrated system. The molten salt is heated up to 565°C through passing the solar tower. The thermal energy storage tanks are designed to store heat up to 12 hours. The temperature variations in the storage tanks are studied and compared accordingly for evaluation. The effect of operating temperatures on the freshwater production and overall system efficiency is determined. About 24.46 MW electricity is generated in the steam turbine under sunny conditions. Furthermore, the storage subsystem stores heat during sunny hours to utilize later in cloudy hours and night time. The produced power decreases to 20.17 MW in discharging hours due to temperature decrease in the tank. The electricity generated by the system is then used to produce freshwater through the reverse osmosis units and also to supply electricity for the residential use. A total flowrate of 240.02 kg/s freshwater is obtained by distillation and reverse osmosis subsystems.  相似文献

An economic evaluation of a latent heat thermal energy storage (LHTES) system for large scale concentrating solar power (CSP) applications is conducted. The concept of embedding gravity-assisted wickless heat pipes (thermosyphons) within a commercial-scale LHTES system is explored through use of a thermal network model. A new design is proposed for charging and discharging a large-scale LHTES system. The size and cost of the LHTES system is estimated and compared with a two-tank sensible heat energy storage (SHTES) system. The results suggest that LHTES with embedded thermosyphons is economically competitive with current SHTES technology, with the potential to reduce capital costs by at least 15%. Further investigation of different phase change materials (PCMs), thermosyphon working fluids, and system configurations has the potential to lead to designs that can further reduce capital costs beyond those reported in this study.  相似文献

This paper presents a numerical investigation on the thermal performance of a solar latent heat storage unit composed of rectangular slabs combined with a flat-plate solar collector. The rectangular slabs of the storage unit are vertically arranged and filled with phase change material (PCM: RT50) dispersed with high conductive nanoparticles (Al2O3). A heat transfer fluid (HTF: water) goes flow in the solar collector and receives solar thermal energy form the absorber area, then circulates between the slabs to transfer heat by forced convection to nanoparticle-enhanced phase change material (NEPCM). A numerical model based on the finite volume method and the conservation equations was developed to model the heat transfer and flow processes in the storage unit. The developed model was validated by comparing the obtained results with the experimental, numerical and theoretical results published in the literature. The thermal performance of the investigated latent heat storage unit combined with the solar collector was evaluated under the meteorological data of a representative day of the month of July in Marrakesh city, Morocco. The effect of the dispersion of high conductive nanoparticles on the thermal behavior and storage performance was also evaluated and compared with the case of base PCM without additives.  相似文献

Thermal energy storage improves the load stability and efficiency of solar thermal power plants by reducing fluctuations and intermittency inherent to solar radiation. This paper presents a numerical study on the transient response of packed bed latent heat thermal energy storage system in removing fluctuations in the heat transfer fluid (HTF) temperature during the charging and discharging period. The packed bed consisting of spherical shaped encapsulated phase change materials (PCMs) is integrated in an organic Rankine cycle-based solar thermal power plant for electricity generation. A comprehensive numerical model is developed using flow equations for HTF and two-temperature non-equilibrium energy equation for heat transfer, coupled with enthalpy method to account for phase change in PCM. Systematic parametric studies are performed to understand the effect of mass flow rate, inlet charging system, storage system dimension and encapsulation of the shell diameter on the dynamic behaviour of the storage system. The overall effectiveness and transient temperature difference in HTF temperature in a cycle are computed for different geometrical and operational parameters to evaluate the system performance. It is found that the ability of the latent heat thermal energy storage system to store and release energy is significantly improved by increasing mass flow rate and inlet charging temperature. The transient variation in the HTF temperature can be effectively reduced by decreasing porosity.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This study evaluates the techno-economics of replacing an air-source heat pump (ASHP) system with a solar seasonal thermal energy storage (STES) system for space heating in Hangzhou, China. Three heating systems, solar STES, ASHP, and ASHP with short-term storage of solar energy, are developed using TRNSYS for a house with 240 m2 of floor area. The ratio of tank volume to collector area (RVA) of the STES is optimized for the lowest equivalent annual cost over a lifespan of 20 y. The determined optimal RVA is 0.33 m3/m2, although it depends on the system and electricity prices. The optimized STES reduces the electricity demand to 1,269 kWh (74% reduction). Despite the superior energy performance, the economic benefit is only possible with large STES systems, which enjoy low tank prices due to scale effects. The results suggest that policy support is needed for STES, where district scaling is not an option.  相似文献

The combination of solid and liquid sorption media for thermal energy storage has been explored in order to improve heat flow as well as storage capacity with respect to the incomplete space-filling of closely packed solid sorbents. Three scenarios were elucidated from which in two cases the liquid/solid combinations perform worse than the neat liquid or solid and a third scenario where the combination performs better than the separate sorbents. We identified a mixture of zeolite 13XBF with tripropylene glycol as an example for such a superior combination showing a similar adsorption curve over time as the pure zeolite or glycol. After complete saturation of the zeolite in the mixture, glycol continues to absorb water, thereby increasing the overall capacity of the system. We identified a low direct attractive interaction (dipolar and dispersive) of the liquid sorbent (tripropylene glycol) with the solid sorbent (zeolite 13XBF) as a prerequisite for improved performance.  相似文献

Metal hydrides have become more and more significant both as hydrogen storage devices and as basic elements in energy conversion systems. Besides the well-known rare earth hydrides, magnesium alloys are very promising in the field of thermal energy storage for concentrating solar power plants. There is interest in analysing the performances of such materials in this context; for this purpose, a numerical model to describe hydrogen absorption and desorption processes of a metal hydride has been connected to a model elaborated with the help of Cycle-Tempo software to simulate a CSP plant operation. The integration of this plant with four metal hydride systems, based on the combination of two low-temperature hydrides (LaNi5, LaNi4.8Al0.2) and two high-temperature hydrides (Mg, Mg2Ni) has been studied. The investigation has taken into account CSP overall performances, transfer surfaces and storage efficiencies, to determine the feasibility of designed plants. Results show that the selection of the optimal hydrides must take into account hydride operation temperatures, reaction enthalpies, storage capacities and kinetic compatibility. In the light of the calculated parameters, a solar ORC plant using R134a as the working fluid is a valuable choice if matched to a storage system composed of LaNi5 and Mg2Ni hydrides.  相似文献

Thermal energy storage system is of great significance for the concentrated solar power system to keep the balance between power generation and demand. Metal hydride based thermal energy storage system is regarded as a promising method due to its good reversibility, low cost, and no by-product. Multi-phase heat exchange has much higher heat transfer coefficient than single-phase fluid heat exchange, thus facilitating the steam generation. In this study, a two-dimensional model of the metal hydride reactor using multi-phase heat exchange is proposed to estimate the performance and its feasibility of application in the concentrated solar power system. The results show that the velocity of the heat transfer fluid should match well with the thermal conductivity of the metal hydride bed to maintain the heat flux at a relatively constant value. The match of thermal conductivity of 3 or 5 W/(m·K) and fluid velocity of 0.0050 m/s results in the heat flux up to about 19 kW/m2, which is increased by 3 orders of magnitude than single-phase heat exchange. In the thermal energy storage system, the reheating cycle is recommended to improve the utilization of the thermal energy. The efficiency of the system could be improved from 18.4% to 30.8% using the reheating cycle. The increased efficiency is comparable to the previously reported efficiency of 39.2%. Besides, the operation strategy of raising the steam temperature by increasing the hydrogen pressure or the superheater temperature is suggested for the system to obtain higher efficiency.  相似文献

This communication is based on exergy concept for the utilization of solar thermal energy in a Rankine cycle‐based fuel‐fired thermal power plant (FFTPP). It has been shown that solar thermal energy as an aided source for feed water preheating helps to reduce the exergy loss in feed water heater (FWH) of Rankine cycle and develops more work than that could have been produced in a solar thermal power plant (STPP). It has been found that this enhancement in work increases for low‐pressure FWHs. For further illustration, a case study has been carried out of a typical 50 kW STPP and a 220 MW FFTPP. The effect of utilizing the same input solar thermal energy of typical STPP, if used as an aided source in a 220 MW FFTPP for feed water preheating is investigated. The work output of STPP is 59.312 kW, while the extra work output of FFTPP by using solar thermal energy of STPP is 90.27 kW. It has been found that the efficiency of work conversion of aided solar thermal energy in FFTPP is higher than the efficiency of work conversion in STPP. Numerical simulation of a hydrogen storage tank of a Totalized Hydrogen Energy Utilization System (THEUS) for application to commercial buildings was done to verify the practicality of THEUS. THEUS consists of a fuel cell, water electrolyzer, hydrogen storage tank and their auxiliary machinery. The hydrogen storage tanks with metal hydrides for load leveling have been previously experimentally investigated as an important element of THEUS. A hydrogen storage tank with 50 kg AB5 type metal hydride was assembled to investigate the hydrogen-absorbing/desorbing process, which is exothermic/endothermic process. The goal of this tank is to recover the cold heat of the endothermic process for air conditioning, and thus improve the efficiency of THEUS. To verify the practical effectiveness of this improved system, we developed a numerical simulation code of hydrogen storage tank with metal hydride. The code was validated by comparing its results with experimental results. In this code the specific heat value of the upper and lower flanges of the hydrogen storage tank was adjusted to be equal to the thermal capacity of the entire tank. The simulation results reproduce well the experimental results.  相似文献

In the present work, microencapsulated phase change material (M-PCM) has been synthesized with eutectic mixture (75% SA + 25% CA) as core and melamine formaldehyde (MF) as shell using in situ polymerization. Advanced instrumental techniques like field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), particle size analyzer (PSA), thermogravimetric/differential thermal analysis (TG/DTA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and thermal conductivity analyzer (TCi) were used to characterize the synthesized M-PCM, and impact of effective parameters like pH and agitator speed on the encapsulation process was also elucidated. Results obtained reveal that at the optimized pH (3.2) and agitator speed (1500 rpm) M-PCM possess smooth surface morphology, spherical in shape with particle size of 10.41 μm. Based on FT-IR analysis, it was observed that the synthesized M-PCM was uniformly encapsulated by MF resin with eutectic mixture in the core. The encapsulation process results in the improvement of the thermal stability of eutectic mixture, it increases from 202.5 to 212.3°C, and the encapsulation efficiency of the M-PCM is found to be 85.3%. The melting point and latent heat of fusion of M-PCM were found to be 34.5°C and 103.9 kJ/kg, respectively.  相似文献

Thermal performance of a hybrid space-cooling system with night ventilation and thermal storage using shape-stabilized phase change material (SSPCM) is investigated numerically. A south-facing room of an office building in Beijing is analyzed, which includes SSPCM plates as the inner linings of walls and the ceiling. Natural cool energy is charged to SSPCM plates by night ventilation with air change per hour (ACH) of 40 h−1 and is discharged to room environment during daytime. Additional cool-supply is provided by an active system during office hours (8:00-18:00) necessary to keep the maximum indoor air temperature below 28 °C. Unsteady simulation is carried out using a verified enthalpy model, with a time period covering the whole summer season. The results indicate that the thermal-storage effect of SSPCM plates combined with night ventilation could improve the indoor thermal-comfort level and save 76% of daytime cooling energy consumption (compared with the case without SSPCM and night ventilation) in summer in Beijing. The electrical COPs of night ventilation (the reduced cooling energy divided by fan power) are 7.5 and 6.5 for cases with and without SSPCM, respectively.  相似文献

Aquifers are underground porous formations containing water. Confined aquifers are the formations surrounded by two impermeable layers, called cap rocks and bed rocks. These aquifers are suitable for seasonal thermal energy storage. In the present study, a confined aquifer was considered to meet the cooling and heating energy needs of a residential complex located in Tehran, Iran. Three different alternatives were analyzed in this aquifer thermal energy storage (ATES), including: using ATES for cooling alone, for cooling and heating, as a heat pump, and for heating alone, employing flat plate solar energy collectors. A numerical simulation, based on the finite difference method, was carried out for velocity and temperature distributions as well as the heat transfer in the aquifer. The thermal energy recovery factor and the annual coefficient of performance of the system were determined under various schemes of operation, revealing that the combination of the ATES with the heat pump, to meet both cooling and heating needs of the complex, is the best. The study was repeated for different aquifer properties.

This study examines the energy discharge of a phase-changing material (PCM)-based air heat exchanger using a metal foam inside the heat transfer fluid (HTF) channel. Such systems have various potential applications in the heating space and building ecosystem. Thermal energy storage (TES) often utilizes air as the HTF, which limits the heat transfer performance due to the low thermal conductivity. This paper aims to address this drawback via incorporating a metal foam into the HTF channel to enhance the thermal performance between the heat transfer fluid (air) and the PCM, which is considered as the novel side of this study. The combined system is mathematically modeled with an symmetrical, three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics method for various flow rates and inlet temperatures of the HTF with different geometric parameters of the metal foam. This study indicates the advantage of utilizing the porous medium in the air channel. The results show the HTF flow rate has a great influence on the discharging rate. The presence of the porous medium in the system improves the discharging process by 116% compared with a non-porous medium system at the same flow rate. The discharging time decreases by increasing the porosity, and the value of 90% is found as the best porosity value at the flow rate of 0.005 kg/s in this system. The solidification rate is proportional to the pore density because of the surface area impacts of the porous medium, also the pressure-drop and the pumping required are highly affected by the mentioned dependent parameters.  相似文献
