Recent advances in the material design and synthesis of nonfullerene acceptors (NFAs) have revealed a new landscape for polymer solar cells (PSCs) and have boosted the power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) to over 15%. Further improvements of the photovoltaic performance are a significant challenge in NFA‐PSCs based on binary donor:acceptor blends. In this study, ternary PSCs are fabricated by incorporating a fullerene derivative, PC61BM, into a combination of a polymer donor (PBDB‐TF) and a fused‐ring NFA (Y6) and a very high PCE of 16.5% (certified as 16.2%) is recorded. Detailed studies suggest that the loading of PC61BM into the PBDB‐TF:Y6 blend can not only enhance the electron mobility but also can increase the electroluminescence quantum efficiency, leading to balanced charge transport and reduced nonradiative energy losses simultaneously. This work suggests that utilizing the complementary advantages of fullerene and NFAs is a promising way to finely tune the detailed photovoltaic parameters and further improve the PCEs of PSCs.  相似文献

In this work, an effectual strategy of constructing polar small molecule acceptors (SMAs) to promote fill factor (FF) of nonfullerene polymer solar cells (PSCs) is first reported. Three asymmetrical SMAs of IDT6CN , IDT6CN‐Th , and IDT6CN‐M , which own large dipole moments, are designed and synthesized. The PSCs based on three polar SMAs exhibit apparently higher FFs compared with their symmetrical analogues. The asymmetrical design strategy accompanied with side chain and end group engineering makes IDT6CN‐Th ‐ and IDT6CN‐M ‐based nonfullerene PSCs achieve high power conversion efficiency with FFs approaching 77%.  相似文献

A new synthetic route, to prepare an alkylated indacenodithieno[3,2‐b]thiophene‐based nonfullerene acceptor (C8‐ITIC), is reported. Compared to the reported ITIC with phenylalkyl side chains, the new acceptor C8‐ITIC exhibits a reduction in the optical band gap, higher absorptivity, and an increased propensity to crystallize. Accordingly, blends with the donor polymer PBDB‐T exhibit a power conversion efficiency (PCE) up to 12.4%. Further improvements in efficiency are found upon backbone fluorination of the donor polymer to afford the novel material PFBDB‐T. The resulting blend with C8‐ITIC shows an impressive PCE up to 13.2% as a result of the higher open‐circuit voltage. Electroluminescence studies demonstrate that backbone fluorination reduces the energy loss of the blends, with PFBDB‐T/C8‐ITIC‐based cells exhibiting a small energy loss of 0.6 eV combined with a high JSC of 19.6 mA cm?2.  相似文献

Recent advances in nonfullerene acceptors (NFAs) have enabled the rapid increase in power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of organic photovoltaic (OPV) cells. However, this progress is achieved using highly toxic solvents, which are not suitable for the scalable large‐area processing method, becoming one of the biggest factors hindering the mass production and commercial applications of OPVs. Therefore, it is of great importance to get good eco‐compatible processability when designing efficient OPV materials. Here, to achieve high efficiency and good processability of the NFAs in eco‐compatible solvents, the flexible alkyl chains of the highly efficient NFA BTP‐4F‐8 (also known as Y6) are modified and BTP‐4F‐12 is synthesized. Combining with the polymer donor PBDB‐TF, BTP‐4F‐12 shows the best PCE of 16.4%. Importantly, when the polymer donor PBDB‐TF is replaced by T1 with better solubility, various eco‐compatible solvents can be applied to fabricate OPV cells. Finally, over 14% efficiency is obtained with tetrahydrofuran (THF) as the processing solvent for 1.07 cm2 OPV cells by the blade‐coating method. These results indicate that the simple modification of the side chain can be used to tune the processability of active layer materials and thus make it more applicable for the mass production with environmentally benign solvents.  相似文献

High‐performance nonfullerene polymer solar cells (PSCs) are developed by integrating the nonfullerene electron‐accepting material 3,9‐bis(2‐methylene‐(3‐(1,1‐dicyanomethylene)‐indanone))‐5,5,11,11‐tetrakis(4‐hexylphenyl)‐dithieno[2,3‐d:2′,3′‐d′]‐s‐indaceno[1,2‐b:5,6‐b′]dithiophne) (ITIC) with a wide‐bandgap electron‐donating polymer PTzBI or PTzBI‐DT, which consists of an imide functionalized benzotriazole (TzBI) building block. Detailed investigations reveal that the extension of conjugation can affect the optical and electronic properties, molecular aggregation properties, charge separation in the bulk‐heterojunction films, and thus the overall photovoltaic performances. Single‐junction PSCs based on PTzBI:ITIC and PTzBI‐DT:ITIC exhibit remarkable power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of 10.24% and 9.43%, respectively. To our knowledge, these PCEs are the highest efficiency values obtained based on electron‐donating conjugated polymers consisting of imide‐functionalized electron‐withdrawing building blocks. Of particular interest is that the resulting device based on PTzBI exhibits remarkable PCE of 7% with the thickness of active layer of 300 nm, which is among the highest values of nonfullerene PSCs utilizing thick photoactive layer. Additionally, the device based on PTzBI:ITIC exhibits prominent stability, for which the PCE remains as 9.34% after thermal annealing at 130 °C for 120 min. These findings demonstrate the great promise of using this series of wide‐bandgap conjugated polymers as electron‐donating materials for high‐performance nonfullerene solar cells toward high‐throughput roll‐to‐roll processing technology.  相似文献

Low energy loss and efficient charge separation under small driving forces are the prerequisites for realizing high power conversion efficiency (PCE) in organic photovoltaics (OPVs). Here, a new molecular design of nonfullerene acceptors (NFAs) is proposed to address above two issues simultaneously by introducing asymmetric terminals. Two NFAs, BTP-S1 and BTP-S2, are constructed by introducing halogenated indandione (A1) and 3-dicyanomethylene-1-indanone (A2) as two different conjugated terminals on the central fused core (D), wherein they share the same backbone as well-known NFA Y6, but at different terminals. Such asymmetric NFAs with A1-D-A2 structure exhibit superior photovoltaic properties when blended with polymer donor PM6. Energy loss analysis reveals that asymmetric molecule BTP-S2 with six chlorine atoms attached at the terminals enables the corresponding devices to give an outstanding electroluminescence quantum efficiency of 2.3 × 10−2%, one order of magnitude higher than devices based on symmetric Y6 (4.4 × 10−3%), thus significantly lowering the nonradiative loss and energy loss of the corresponding devices. Besides, asymmetric BTP-S1 and BTP-S2 with multiple halogen atoms at the terminals exhibit fast hole transfer to the donor PM6. As a result, OPVs based on the PM6:BTP-S2 blend realize a PCE of 16.37%, higher than that (15.79%) of PM6:Y6-based OPVs. A further optimization of the ternary blend (PM6:Y6:BTP-S2) results in a best PCE of 17.43%, which is among the highest efficiencies for single-junction OPVs. This work provides an effective approach to simultaneously lower the energy loss and promote the charge separation of OPVs by molecular design strategy.  相似文献

Ternary organic solar cells are promising alternatives to the binary counterpart due to their potential in achieving high performance. Although a growing number of ternary organic solar cells are recently reported, less effort is devoted to morphology control. Here, ternary organic solar cells are fabricated using a wide‐bandgap polymer PBT1‐C as the donor, a crystalline fused‐ring electron acceptor ITIC‐2Cl, and an amorphous fullerene derivative indene‐C60 bisadduct (ICBA) as the acceptor. It is found that ICBA can disturb π–π interactions of the crystalline ITIC‐2Cl molecules in ternary blends and then help to form more uniform morphology. As a result, incorporation of 20% ICBA in the PBT1‐C:ITIC‐2Cl blend enables efficient charge dissociation, negligible bimolecular recombination, and balanced charge carrier mobilities. An impressive power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 13.4%, with a high fill factor (FF) of 76.8%, is eventually achieved, which represents one of the highest PCEs reported so far for organic solar cells. The results manifest that the adoption of amorphous fullerene acceptor is an effective approach to optimizing the ternary blend morphology and thereby increases the solar cell performance.  相似文献

The performance of organic photovoltaics (OPVs) has rapidly improved over the past years. Recent work in material design has primarily focused on developing near‐infrared nonfullerene acceptors with broadening absorption that pair with commercialized donor polymers; in the meanwhile, the influence of the morphology of the blend film and the energy level alignment on the efficiency of charge separation needs to be synthetically considered. Herein, the selection rule of the donor/acceptor blend is demonstrated by rationally considering the molecular interaction and energy level alignment, and highly efficient OPV devices using both‐fluorinated or both‐nonfluorinated donor/acceptor blends are realized. With the enlarged absorption, ideal morphology, and efficient charge transfer, the devices based on the PBDB‐T‐F/Y1‐4F blend and PBDB‐T‐F/Y6 exhibit champion power conversion efficiencies as high as 14.8% and 15.9%, respectively.  相似文献

In this paper, we have investigated the bulk heterojunction organic solar cells based on CuI ?? polyvinyl alcohol (CuI-PVA) nanocomposite as electron donor and [6,6] ?? phenyl C60 ?? butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) or modified PCBM i.e. F as electron acceptor. The power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of 0.46 % and 0.68 % were achieved for the photovoltaic devices based on as cast CuI-PVA:PCBM and CuI-PVA:F blend films, respectively. The higher PCEs of the organic solar cells based on F as electron acceptor resulted from the increase in both short circuit current (J sc ) and open circuit voltage (V oc ), due to the increased absorption of F in visible region and its higher LUMO level. After thermal annealing, the PCEs of the organic solar cells were further increased to 0.54 % and 0.80 % for CuI-PVA:PCBM and CuI-PVA:F blends, respectively. The increase in the PCEs was mainly due to the increase in J sc , which has been attributed to the improvement in hole mobility and broadening of the absorption band in the longer wavelength region. The improved hole mobility resulted in more balanced charge transport in the devices based on the thermally annealed blends.  相似文献

Recently, acceptor–donor–acceptor (A–D–A) small molecules have emerged as promising nonfullerene acceptors (NFAs) for organic solar cells and have attracted great attention. The carbon‐bridged (C‐bridged) ladder‐type D unit plays a crucial role in developing high‐performance A–D–A NFAs. However, the medium electron‐donating capability of C‐bridged units is unfavorable for making NFAs with strong light‐harvesting capability. In this regard, carbon–oxygen‐bridged (CO‐bridged) ladder‐type units present advantages in developing strong light‐absorbing NFAs. Here, recent progress in the newly emerging CO‐bridged NFAs is highlighted. The synthetic methods for the polycyclic CO‐bridged building blocks are introduced. The photovoltaic performance for CO‐bridged NFAs is summarized and discussed. Perspectives on developing high‐performance CO‐bridged‐NFA‐based solar cells are made.  相似文献

Fused‐ring electron acceptors (FREAs), as a family of non‐fullerene (NF) acceptors, have achieved tremendous success in pushing the power conversion efficiency of organic solar cells. Here, the detailed molecular packing motifs of two extensively studied FREAs—ITIC and ITIC‐Th are reported. It is revealed for the first time the long‐range structure ordering along the backbone direction originated from favored end group π–π stacking. The backbone ordering could be significantly enhanced in the ternary film by the mutual mixing of ITIC and ITIC‐Th, which gives rise to an improved in‐plane electron mobility and better ternary device performance. The backbone ordering might be a common morphological feature of FREAs, providing explanations to previously observed small open circuit voltage loss and superior performance of FREA‐based devices and guiding the future molecular design of high‐performance NF acceptors.  相似文献

A fused tris(thienothiophene) (3TT) building block is designed and synthesized with strong electron‐donating and molecular packing properties, where three thienothiophene units are condensed with two cyclopentadienyl rings. Based on 3TT, a fused octacylic electron acceptor (FOIC) is designed and synthesized, using strong electron‐withdrawing 2‐(5/6‐fluoro‐3‐oxo‐2,3‐dihydro‐1H‐inden‐1‐ylidene)‐malononitrile as end groups. FOIC exhibits absorption in 600–950 nm region peaked at 836 nm with extinction coefficient of up to 2 × 105m –1 cm–1, low bandgap of 1.32 eV, and high electron mobility of 1.2 × 10–3 cm2 V–1 s–1. Compared with its counterpart ITIC3 based on indacenothienothiophene core, FOIC exhibits significantly upshifted highest occupied molecular orbital level, slightly downshifted lowest unoccupied molecular orbital level, significantly redshifted absorption, and higher mobility. The as‐cast organic solar cells (OSCs) based on blends of PTB7‐Th donor and FOIC acceptor without additional treatments exhibit power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) as high as 12.0%, which is much higher than that of PTB7‐Th: ITIC3 (8.09%). The as‐cast semitransparent OSCs based on the same blends show PCEs of up to 10.3% with an average visible transmittance of 37.4%.  相似文献

Suppression of carrier recombination is critically important in realizing high‐efficiency polymer solar cells. Herein, it is demonstrated difluoro‐substitution of thiophene conjugated side chain on donor polymer can suppress triplet formation for reducing carrier recombination. A new medium bandgap 2D‐conjugated D–A copolymer J91 is designed and synthesized with bi(alkyl‐difluorothienyl)‐benzodithiophene as donor unit and fluorobenzotriazole as acceptor unit, for taking the advantages of the synergistic fluorination on the backbone and thiophene side chain. J91 demonstrates enhanced absorption, low‐lying highest occupied molecular orbital energy level, and higher hole mobility, in comparison with its control polymer J52 without fluorination on the thiophene side chains. The transient absorption spectra indicate that J91 can suppress the triplet formation in its blend film with n‐type organic semiconductor acceptor m ‐ITIC (3,9‐bis(2‐methylene‐(3‐(1,1‐dicyanomethylene)‐indanone)‐5,5,11,11‐tetrakis(3‐hexylphenyl)‐dithieno[2,3‐d:2,3′‐d′]‐s‐indaceno[1,2‐b:5,6‐b′]‐dithiophene). With these favorable properties, a higher power conversion efficiency of 11.63% with high V OC of 0.984 V and high J SC of 18.03 mA cm?2 is obtained for the polymer solar cells based on J91 /m ‐ITIC with thermal annealing. The improved photovoltaic performance by thermal annealing is explained from the morphology change upon thermal annealing as revealed by photoinduced force microscopy. The results indicate that side chain engineering can provide a new solution to suppress carrier recombination toward high efficiency, thus deserves further attention.  相似文献

Currently, n‐type acceptors in high‐performance all‐polymer solar cells (all‐PSCs) are dominated by imide‐functionalized polymers, which typically show medium bandgap. Herein, a novel narrow‐bandgap polymer, poly(5,6‐dicyano‐2,1,3‐benzothiadiazole‐alt‐indacenodithiophene) (DCNBT‐IDT), based on dicyanobenzothiadiazole without an imide group is reported. The strong electron‐withdrawing cyano functionality enables DCNBT‐IDT with n‐type character and, more importantly, alleviates the steric hindrance associated with typical imide groups. Compared to the benchmark poly(naphthalene diimide‐alt‐bithiophene) (N2200), DCNBT‐IDT shows a narrower bandgap (1.43 eV) with a much higher absorption coefficient (6.15 × 104 cm?1). Such properties are elusive for polymer acceptors to date, eradicating the drawbacks inherited in N2200 and other high‐performance polymer acceptors. When blended with a wide‐bandgap polymer donor, the DCNBT‐IDT‐based all‐PSCs achieve a remarkable power conversion efficiency of 8.32% with a small energy loss of 0.53 eV and a photoresponse of up to 870 nm. Such efficiency greatly outperforms those of N2200 (6.13%) and the naphthalene diimide (NDI)‐based analog NDI‐IDT (2.19%). This work breaks the long‐standing bottlenecks limiting materials innovation of n‐type polymers, which paves a new avenue for developing polymer acceptors with improved optoelectronic properties and heralds a brighter future of all‐PSCs.  相似文献

The solution‐processed layer‐by‐layer (LBL) method has potential to achieve high‐performance polymer solar cells (PSCs) due to its advantage of enriching donors near the anode and acceptors near the cathode. However, power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of the LBL‐PSCs are still significantly lower than those of conventional one‐step‐processed PSCs (OS‐PSCs). A method to solve the critical problems in LBL‐PSCs is reported here. By employing a specific mixed solvent (o‐dichlorobenzene [o‐DCB]/tetrahydrofuran) to spin‐coat the small‐molecular acceptor IT‐4F onto a layer of the newly designed polymer donor (PBDB‐TFS1), appropriate interdiffusion between the PBDB‐TFS1 and the IT‐4F can critically be controlled, and then an ideal phase separation of the active layer and large donor/acceptor interface area can be realized with a certain amount of o‐DCB. The PSCs based on the LBL method exhibit PCEs as high as 13.0%, higher than that of the counterpart (11.8%) made by the conventional OS solution method. This preliminary work reveals that the LBL method is a promising approach to the promotion of the photovoltaic performance of polymer solar cells.  相似文献

We report the synthesis, properties, and photovoltaic applications of a new conjugated copolymer (C12DPP-π-BT) containing a donor group (bithiophene) and an acceptor group (2,5-didodecylpyrrolo[3,4-c]pyrrole-1,4(2H,5H)-dione), bridged by a phenyl group. Using cyclic voltammetry, we found the energy levels of C12DPP-π-BT are intermediate to common electron donor and acceptor photovoltaic materials, poly (3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) (P3HT) and [6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM), respectively. Whereas P3HT and PCBM are exclusively electron donating or accepting, we predict C12DPP-π-BT may uniquely serve as either an electron donor or an acceptor when paired with PCBM or P3HT forming junctions with large built-in potentials. We confirmed the ambipolar nature of C12DPP-π-BT in space charge limited current measurements and in C12DPP-π-BT:PCBM and C12DPP-π-BT:P3HT bulk heterojunction solar cells, achieving power conversion efficiencies of 1.67% and 0.84%, respectively, under illumination of AM 1.5G (100 mW/cm(2)). Adding diiodooctane to C12DPP-π-BT:PCBM improved donor-acceptor inter-mixing and film uniformity, and therefore enhanced charge separation and overall device efficiency. Using higher-molecular-weight polymer C12DPP-π-BT in both C12DPP-π-BT:PCBM and C12DPP-π-BT:P3HT devices improved charge transport and hence the performance of the solar cells. In addition, we compared the structural and electronic properties of C12DPP-π-BT:PCBM and C12DPP-π-BT:P3HT blends, representing the materials classes of polymer:fullerene and polymer:polymer blends. In C12DPP-π-BT:PCBM blends, higher short circuit currents were obtained, consistent with faster charge transfer and balanced electron and hole transport, but lower open circuit voltages may be reduced by trap-assisted recombination and interfacial recombination losses. In contrast, C12DPP-π-BT:P3HT blends exhibit higher open circuit voltage, but short circuit currents were limited by charge transfer between the polymers. In conclusion, C12DPP-π-BT is a promising material with intrinsic ambipolar characteristics for organic photovoltaics and may operate as either a donor or acceptor in the design of bulk heterojunction solar cells.  相似文献

Organic solar cells are currently experiencing a second golden age thanks to the development of novel non-fullerene acceptors (NFAs). Surprisingly, some of these blends exhibit high efficiencies despite a low energy offset at the heterojunction. Herein, free charge generation in the high-performance blend of the donor polymer PM6 with the NFA Y6 is thoroughly investigated as a function of internal field, temperature and excitation energy. Results show that photocurrent generation is essentially barrierless with near-unity efficiency, regardless of excitation energy. Efficient charge separation is maintained over a wide temperature range, down to 100 K, despite the small driving force for charge generation. Studies on a blend with a low concentration of the NFA, measurements of the energetic disorder, and theoretical modeling suggest that CT state dissociation is assisted by the electrostatic interfacial field which for Y6 is large enough to compensate the Coulomb dissociation barrier.  相似文献

Organic photovoltaics (OPVs) are fabricated with PM6 as donor and T6Me, IT‐2F, or their mixture as acceptor. A 13.36% power conversion efficiency (PCE) is achieved from the optimized ternary OPVs with 50 wt% IT‐2F in acceptors, which is attributed to the enhanced photon harvesting of ternary active layers and improved exciton utilization efficiency through energy transfer from IT‐2F to T6Me. The efficient energy transfer from IT‐2F to T6Me can be confirmed from the photoluminescence spectra of neat and blend films, which may provide additional channels to enhance exciton utilization efficiency for achieving short‐circuit current density (JSC) improvement of ternary OPVs. It should be highlighted that the fill factor (FF) of ternary OPVs can be monotonously increased along with the incorporation of IT‐2F, indicating the gradually optimized phase separation degree of ternary active layers. The third component IT‐2F plays a key role in optimizing phase separation as a morphology regulator. Over 8% PCE improvement is achieved in the optimized ternary OPVs compared with the over 12% PCEs of the corresponding binary OPVs, respectively. This work indicates that the performance of ternary OPVs can be well optimized by carefully picking materials with good compatibility and complementary absorption spectra, as well as the appropriate energy levels.  相似文献

Two new Y6 derivatives of symmetrical YBO-2O and asymmetrical YBO-FO nonfullerene acceptors (NFAs) are prepared with a simplified synthetic procedure by incorporating octyl and fluorine substituents onto the terminal 2-(3-oxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-1-ylidene)malononitrile (INCN) moiety. By moving the alkyl substituents on the Y6 core to the terminal INCN moiety, the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital of the YBO NFAs increases without decreasing solubility, resulting in high open-circuit voltages of the devices. Molecular dynamics simulation shows that YBO-2O/-FO preferentially form core–core and terminal–terminal dimeric interactions, demonstrating their tighter packing structure and higher electron mobility than Y6, which is consistent with 2D grazing incidence X-ray scattering and space charge limited current measurements. In blend films, the hole transfer (HT) from YBO-2O/-FO to the polymer donor PM6 is studied in detail by transient absorption spectroscopy, demonstrating efficient HT from YBO-FO to PM6 with their suitable energy level alignment. Despite the simplified synthesis, YBO-FO demonstrates photovoltaic performance similar to that of Y6, exhibiting a power conversion efficiency of 15.01%. Overall, this design strategy not only simplifies the synthetic procedures but also adjusts the electrical properties by modifying the intermolecular packing and energy level alignment, suggesting a novel simplified molecular design of Y6 derivatives.  相似文献
